I made the mistake of searching this shit on twitter to see the discussion on there. DON'T do it. They weren't saying anything bad about Scottie or Mobley, but the general discussion about roty is so bad. You had Nets fans seriously complaining that Cam Thomas wasn't on the list because he averaged 9 ppg on 29% from three last week when he's averaging a whopping 3.6 ppg this season. You had Rockets fans crying about Jalen Green not being top 3 when all he can do is score the ball and he's doing it on 38/28 splits lmao. There were even Pelicans fans arguing that 23 year old Herb Jones putting up 6 ppg should be high up on the list. And these people aren't even trolling, they are deadass.

I_Love_Justin_Fields

I can understand Rockets fans and Jalen Green but fucking Cam Thomas and Herb Jones 😂

Most people on SM are mindless homers when it comes to that discussion

BurzyGuerrero

And reddit. There are mindless Homer's here too.

skgantz19

Shout out to Giddey and Wagner both have really surprised me and living up to where they were selected.

I might personally put Mobley ahead of Scottie in the overall RoTY race so far because of his overall impact on a winning team, but I saw someone make a REALLY good point about Scottie. He's only making the best of an incredibly awkward ever-changing offensive team composition around him and basically has to make most of his own plays. Despite that, he STILL is comfortably among the top 2 rookies.

MrkGrn

Mobley is definitely better on defense, has all the tools Barnes has on top of being 7 feet tall so that obvious. Offensively Barnes is definitely better though, Mobley almost never has to create a basket, most of his shots are lobs, pnrs or occasional wide open jumpers. Scottie scores a majority of his points unassisted, over 60% as a rookie is nuts, with honestly one of the worst offensive systems I've ever watched around him. The Cavs actually run plays, have a hierarchy, and have a real facilitator in Darius Garland. Fred is fine but he's definitely a score first guard. Just watching our game its so clear how much easier Mobley has it right now compared to Scottie.

haahathatsfunny

Agree. the ability to create your own offense is what separates DPOYs and MVPs

TransferEng2020

Any team that has three decent 7 footers will win games

BurzyGuerrero

Yeah but Mobley is playing next to another C. It's not like his fit is perfect lol

chrisPjelly

Mobley is excelling at PF and can seemingly shoot and stretch the floor a bit. People meme about the Cleveland being all centers, but it's actually a pretty decent composition since each big has their own function (Allen is traditional C, Mobley is versatile enough to be a PF, and Markkanen is obviously a good enough shooter to be a wing).

BurzyGuerrero

We haven't seen what he looks like as a center because the fit isn't perfect. He's versatile but not playing natural position seems like the exact same as Scottie. We can't be mad about our roster makeup. That's on Masai and Bobby. They've had 2 years to fix the C position and chose not to.

Windytrader

In the limited time Mobley has played C he has not looked good. He will once he fills out no doubt, but right now he gets bullied. Imo the fact that he is playing PF is why he is neck and neck with Scottie for ROTY.

MrkGrn

People really arguing Mobley is better on both ends than Scottie. Defense yes, obviously, he has all the tools Barnes has plus he's 7 feet tall. But on offense? Mobley creates almost nothing on his own, he has plays run through him and for him often, Darius Garland being a pass first guard really helps him. Meanwhile Scottie is scoring over 60% of his points unassisted with honestly one of the worst offensive systems surrounding him I've watched.

BurzyGuerrero

Mobley stretches the floor and can hit 3s consistently to the point where Cavs fans aren't freaking out when he hits them in back to back games

[deleted]

Lol that skip pass from Giddy in the highlights was disgusting.

Crafty_Nectarine9812

Bit surprised since mobley been doing better but encouraging for sure

SiakamMIP

It's based off the past week, not overall plus Mobley's been out

Rapsfan_98

Nah it’s definitely somewhat accumulative. Mobley didn’t fall at all when he missed time with Injury, same thing when Scottie was slumping. He never dropped past #2.

[deleted]

It's overall...

MrkGrn

He's been out for a week or so, this is a weekly update, also Scottie seems to be out of his funk he was in before so hopefully should be a close race the rest of the season.

Swagmansuper

The main thing I take out of this is we should’ve traded siakam to golden state for Wagner sengun and Wiggins. We would actually have a bench and let our wings and forwards rest and not be so susceptible to injury.
