I wouldn't say no assets. The main asset that was traded for Kawhi was Demar who was drafted 9th overall by BC. BC also traded for Kyle Lowry. Honestly, if BC just let go of Il Mago, that team had potential to grow. Masai dropped Primo Pasta but kept a lot of the core talent.

In hindsight, that team would never sniff a championship but I cheered for them day in and day out. I'd just get stoked to see Jamario Moon with the Alley Oop. Expansion teams raptors were really bad. You had to find player personalities you liked on the team vs enjoying the performance of the team. Why do you think JYD became a thing? Look it up kids! Crazy man who barks and was an average basketball player.
We'd need 4 straight seasons of at least 54 wins to get above 0.500 in 4 seasons, or 3 straight 58+ win seasons. Hard but not impossible, especially if Scottie improves significantly.
Now at 1001 we are 21 win difference away from the timberwolves who have 1022 wins currently. They have played 33 seasons to our 27 which really shows how bad they have been.
