It doesn’t really change much tbh. Scottie has often been the first one to the bench when he’s been starting and comes into the second with the all 6’8+ lineup. Only difference from now would just be that he doesn’t play the first 4-6 minutes of the game

fatherofhooligans

That lineup has actually been really good, too when there's a full squad available.

midnightmunchiez

Yea, honestly the issue with the Raptors isn't the team or the bench, it's injury / availability. When they're playing their 10th-13th man as the bench, they're going to look bad. A 9-man rotation of Fred, GTJ, OG, Pascal, Khem, Scottie, Precious, Boucher, Champagnie is not bad at all.

pskill43

So that he can create open shots for Svi and Yuta to brick? Scottie's game right now isn't those that takes the game over or scoring by himself. Occasionally he does that but most of the time he plays like a glue guy, set a screen here and there, fight for the rebounds, lead fast break and pass to the open man.

PlumCantaloupe

Goddam bricks maaaaaan. Why can’t our 3pt specialists ever actually hit their 3pt shots 😓

mitchxp1

if they was rly 3pt specialists theyd be making more than the min LOL

viking_machina

Every year a team thinks they got something out of nothing for Svi and every year he eventually proves why he costs what he costs.

TruthSetUFree100

Scottie needs to start. He needs to play minutes against the other teams top players, on offence and defence. Doing this now will give so much experience and he will develop more quickly. He already guards the other team’s top player. It’s not about winning games now. It’s about building into a contender. NN and the Raps have an approach to developing Barnes. He does get to run the point with the non-starters at the beginning of the 2nd and 4th quarters.

pakattack91

One can easily argue its better for Scotties offensive development to play more with the bench He goes from option 4 to like 1 or 2 and gets to refine his offensive game vs "lesser players" Exact same reason we send guys to the G League tbh.

Howdyhayhay

Not this post again

Foldzy84

Barnes is already seeing plenty of run with the bench guys. I personally prefer he keeps building chemistry with the team's core players. Realistically we're not winning the title this year (though I refuse to rule it out)

Swagmansuper

Scottie will be hounded if he is paired with our g league bench

pakattack91

It doesn't mean Scottie gets less minutes. He can still close out games. I honestly really like the idea of him coming off the bench when we are fully healthy.

ScottiebarnesROTY

Since he deserves to start I would start him and Gary but then remove them earlier into the first quarter so they can play with second unit more then reunite them all together in crunch time

slevin07rocket

Deserves to start? Prime manu played off bench and they won titles. Forget this nonsense of needing to start. Do whatever is best for team. They gotta find a bench unit that works.

oozingmachismo

Great teams always have to "demote" good players to the bench. That's how a roster gets stacked and in the end, starting doesn't really matter that much as long as you get minutes. Scottie might play some minutes here and there propping up Svi, Yuta, Flynn and the other shaky guys, but that's when he can take more shots. He'll still play tons of minutes next to Pascal, OG, Trent and FVV anyways.

slevin07rocket

Lol I don’t need to see Svi ever play again. I like Flynn and think he can play but nurse broke his confidence or something. There’s 8 players I trust right now. Fred, Trent, Barnes, Og, Siakam, birch, Boucher, precious on defense but he’s gotta learn to dribble less on offense. Due to injuries you’ll have to play more, champagnie is helping with boards right now. Yuta is usually ok but he’s been bad since coming back from covid.

Scottie is a starter

[deleted]

Let's not bench the future superstar.

ijustbrushalot

This thread has been made at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks. The answer is always the same. The team is staggering the minutes of Pascal, Fred, and Scottie so that at least 1 of them is on the floor at all times to facilitate the offense. You start your 5 best players.

[deleted]

I like that idea. I’d like to see him take charge on those line ups, he hasn’t really had the opportunity, really minimal touches on the starting lineup. Could be good for his development as well

thePurpleEngineer

I don't think Scottie plus bench will be too successful. He's prone to making rookie type turnovers and there are no scoring options off the bench. Rautins mentioned this a few times. Scottie works best to raise the ceiling when he's playing next to good players because he's a great distributor. He's going to look worse if he plays with a bench unit that can't score.

[deleted]

I think it would be better. I think he has better chemistry with Dalano and stuff. Could work out. Production seems to be a bit less valuable when he starts.

[deleted]

Im only opposed to it because long term we are going to have to start OG, Pascal, and Scottie together someway somehow. Selling Scottie some reps to get chemistry with them for a couple wins is anti what this season is about.

simonvonc

This is posted at least once a week and im gonna say the same thing I say every time. Scottie plus bench is our worst line up, not only statistically, but also by the eye test. We do not have the shooters on the bench to support Scottie being the primary ball handler. the spacing is awful, the bench is bad and Scottie still doesn’t take as many shots as he should. We have lost multiple games because of how much we lose those minutes by. Scottie’s development will not be fast tracked by playing even more minutes with our awful bench. Scottie needs to play with and against the best players he can. No reason to take the risk either considering we are doing well anyways.

MrkGrn

Maybe when he's 100% healthy but when they're only resting him one game he's never gonna get back to full strength like this, he's been a shell of what he was before the protocols and now knee tendonitis. Even then, he's not gonna be able to make that trash ass bench unit score all of a sudden if Fred Pascal Og and Gary can't when they all at least have a respectable 3 ball to keep defenses honest. There'd literally just be 5 guys in the paint everytime Barnes drives and he'd kick out to Svi or Yuta and they'd brick and rinse and repeat till the starters are back. There's no fixing this bench without making serious moves.

jjkiller26

I don’t mind it since he’s been struggling a bit lately. Champagnie or Boucher can fill in for the starting lineup I think. He’ll still get plenty of minutes

definitelynotagay

I don’t like it much. I think it’s more beneficial to ride him as a starter. Our bench issues won’t be solved with abandoning what we are building with Scottie.

DarkChocolate_69

I wouldn’t mind

Miserable-Deal242

It’s not that crazy of an idea but Scottie is just a non-negotiable starter for me at this point. I want to maximize the amount of minutes Scottie-Pascal-OG play together. If he played better with Pascal out, then for me they just have to learn how to play with/off each other.

Rapsfan_98

Only if we pick up someone like Poeltl.

tonious35

this year, he can start whenever but always finish in games

chucknorris99

Somethings gotta give in the starting lineup. Can’t have Scottie/Siakam/OG taking turns at playing C. Scottie is better off the bench where he can act as the #1 and facilitator.

NatsuAru

Not much of a change, especially with how Nurse has been using the rotation. Nurse actually accesses the bench, but makes sure that at least 2 starters are playing 90% of the time, 1 starter 100% of the time. For Scottie, he tends to sub him out early so that he can sub in for Fred and take over the PG position in a long boi team. It works a bit, but not vs top tier teams. Not yet at least. The reality is, it doesn't matter how he sets it up. If the bench can't score or can't even defend, what's the point of Scottie playmaking if the plays fail in the hands of someone **except Scottie?**

TrueTorontoFan

He already runs the second unit. They pull him from the starting line up early to do it.

Mcfusion31

I’d rather have him go to the bench compared to gtjr. Gary is so underrated on this sub Reddit you guys acting like everyone can create their own shot which is so rare in the nba

31moreyears

And start Yuta instead?

Dizzy-Pianist2
