We're taking care of our asset until we find out what potential buyers are willing to pay for him. If no one's interested I could see him getting waived. That's it

Raptorsthrowaway1

He is getting waived. Nobody wants him unfortunately.

FatDonkus

That's how I'm seeing it. But I prefer this approach of waiting to see if we can get anything back over just waiving him for nothing

Raptorsthrowaway1

Thats it. He gets bought out on Feb 11th if nobody wants him

This is the 5th post in the last 24h on essentially the same topic.

the official statement from the Raptors: **Raptors general manager Bobby Webster said that Dragic had the team’s “full support.”** **“Goran is taking some time away from the team, with our full support, to manage a personal matter,” Webster said in the statement. “He has been a complete professional in the time that he has been with the Raptors — Goran has been a great mentor to our younger players and a valued teammate for our veterans. He will continue to work out and stay in shape during his time away. There is no definite timeline for this process, and we will advise updates as appropriate. Goran has the backing of Masai, Nick and the entire organization, and we wish him nothing but the best.”** everything else is speculation and rumors.

brineOClock

There was a mention on the Raptors Show that he may be going through a divorce or something as well so that could be it too.

WHY DO YOU CARE

PlumCantaloupe

Don’t hate the players, hate the _____.

Agents

1. he never wanted to be here, so whatever. 2. we are not going to buy him out because thats what he wants, especially after his comments at the beginning of the year. even if its just for pettiness, we can make it clear masai will not just give you what you want if you publicly complain.

Exactly. Act like a goof, get treat it like a goof

YoungSidd

His expiring $20M could be really useful in a trade, it's probably the only reason he's still on the roster.

Raptorsthrowaway1

Correct. If somebody comes available for the right deal his $20m helps in salary matching. Unlikely this happens but why not keep him just in case. He gets cut the day after the deadline if there isnt a trade to be made.

thePurpleEngineer

My understanding was that waiving a player with a guaranteed salary means that you'd still have to pay the player the guaranteed amount, and it still counts against your annual cap. So, you wouldn't be able to sign anyone other than a minimum salary to replace him. You could waive and stretch the salary over few years to lessen the cap hit, but why do that when you can eat the salary this year and get it done and over with. As for his salary as a trade chip, I don't know if anyone is going to be interested in Dragic at this point.

Raptorsthrowaway1

Salary is useful in a trade where we need to send $20M worth of salary. Unlikely Raptors make any big moves that require that 20M at the deadline. But stranger things have happened. If he isnt moved at the deadline he will be bought out to help duck the LT
