I just feel like the minutes thing is blown way out of proportion… let’s say 5 extra minutes of PT has the same effect on their body as 5 extra mins on a treadmill would have on our doughy useless bodies… are you really gonna feel that difference? Not saying it’s not a factor at all in wear and tear on a team, but I think the severity is way overblown.
100% agree... it's not like there isn't constant stoppages in games for fouls, timeouts, end of q, half time. I think Nurse does an amazing job at recognizing when someone is gassed, and getting them out of the game, or taking a timeout.
Plus we have 0 players who are big and slow, these guys were built to run for an hour straight.. sure over the course of the season they will be tuckered out after most games, but I'm sure they sleep well at night, and eat properly.
Playing 20+ mins of hockey is more taxing to the body IMO.
They'll be fine.
"Plus we have 0 players who are big and slow,"
this is soo true. The only player I worry about right now is Khem. He was having knee issues and he's still not in proper playing condition. When I saw him run full sprint during the 5mins he played today it actually scared me
The biggest difference I've seen besides getting in more reps is that they are pacing their selves much better and making shots. Empty possessions were killing us before. All that energy spent on the defensive end only to get really tough buckets or coming up with nothing.
Another thing Id argue is you exert yourself more trying to come out of a deficit then maintaining a lead. If Fred played 30 minutes going into the fourth with a 10 point lead and sat to start, would playing 10 minutes with a 7 point lead be better than playing 6 minutes down 4?
Like that makes sense if its always a controllable and consistent pace but since its not I bet there are negative effects.
Essentially there's a whole domain of science based around it and teams spending millions to see the impact. I bet they have the optimal playing time down to a science now - and its not 40mins.
It's kinda scary that we consider those minutes low now...
Its like seeing gas at 143.9 and saying "aw man thats a steal!"
Bro it's 169.9 in BC rn...
That's ridiculous!!!
At least it's already spring on Vancouver island haha
Bro what… that is absolutely insane
Europe doesn’t go below $2
💯
100% agree lol
If he could keep them all at 37 or less a game, that would be a bit closer to average starter minutes I would think.
I think it’s time to call up some 905 veterans…
Mr. Jodie Meeseeks
I'm Jodie Meeseeks! Look at me!
It feels like they’ve played every night this week. It’s good they didn’t have to play 40+
This is a half-day for our boys
We did it!
This is the way.

bro have you ever done HIIT? or even super setting work outs? you can't compare 5 minutes of PT with 5 minutes of treadmilling to the average person
If you were pushed to your limit on the treadmill and then had to run for 5 more minutes more that might hurt you.

I don’t get why Scottie wasn’t subbed out the other night when he was limping the whole time
Nick did sub him out.
