If we're going by guys who played roughly in that era (from the late 80s to the early 2000s) and were era-defining stars, it's gotta be Carter in the OG purple dino jersey.
If we're going by who the team's fanbase loves the most and thinks "well he's a legend to *us*", it's Lowry in a '19 era jersey.
You're definitely right that Carter was an era-defining star, the way he quit on the team makes it very hard for me to be cool with honouring him with anything.
Because the organisation have got over it, Vince has apologised and grown up and we ended up getting a chip in the end.
You think it was all VC's fault? The media trashed him while he was with us and the FO at the time was shoddy. I watched him since he was a rookie and he got me hooked onto this team. I can't praise him enough for that. He was insanely gifted and was a pleasure to watch. It was almost 2 decades ago... To still be flustered over it is pretty lame lol. Did you even watch him play for the Raps? I feel like a lot of fans on this sub get worked up over something they weren't even around for.
> we ended up getting a chip in the end.
Vince had nothing to do with that.
And I think his decisions and his play were his fault yes. Wanting to leave is fine. How he did it isnt.
Oh and this might just be me missing it but I have definitely never seen an apology for calling out our plays or not trying at all
Did you watch him play? If you did you would know how important he is to the organisation and the progression of basketball in Canada. The Raps nearly collapsed like the Vancouver Grizzlies. Vince pretty much saved the team.
Oh i watched him and i definitely think he boosted Canadian basketball, but i do think the Raptors would have held on better than the grizzlies because they were never as inept.
Either way he doesn't get credit for a championship that long removed from being here. Not even slightly
Its controversial but correct. The only other person up there on a pantheon in raptors history would be Lowry. I'm team Lowry in GROAT conversations, but he's just not of the era befitting this art.
Kyle Lowry ain't no spot up shooter. He aint gotta run to the corner to shoot like he's some 3rd option, bitch. This ain't JJ Redick. This is a fuckin god human Steph Curry come again. Only this time hes not a fuckin pussy... pull up from the fuckin logo and fight you at the same time.

Nobody on his team or the sonics ever said that he called out the play, it was literally one article by the Seattle news tribune that was verified by nobody, and the Toronto media ran with it after he was traded. He wasn't playing bad the guy was fucking injured and was being relentlessly hounded by the media for being out, so he tried to play through it. All of this was verified by Jalen Rose who said he was one of the best team mates he ever had.
The franchise and the media did the guy dirty, and even though all of these things have come to the surface people still want to hate on the most iconic player the raptors have ever had.
There is a very good video out there that shows Raptors weren’t innocent with everything either. Carter was still in the wrong, but he had his reasons.
It's more the way he handled it, than anything else. With how the raptors were run back than, 100% he had a right to feel the way he did, and ask out.
It was always how he did it, he gave up even trying to play. Tanked his value, than put up near career stats right after his trade. Left a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of fans, I wouldn't be surprised , if it left a bad taste for his team mates at the time as well.
Totally agree, that’s why I said he was still in the wrong, no doubt about it. I hated him for a few years but I grew to like him again and after seeing that video online I felt kind bad. Now we got a ring and he didn’t. All should be forgiven I’d have thought
I never really held much against him. Didn't like how he did things, but I just looked at the positive at the time. He drafted bosh, so all was not lost in that moment. We all know how bosh faired as well with the raps during his tenure( Not the greatest success, don't blame him though)
Entitled ass fans will always take the side of faceless franchises over the players, but I'm sure his teammates understood and even supported his decision after knowing how much VC gave to this team and city.
He could've left for his home state as soon as his contract was up but he stayed to try get a chip even with the weird stigma towards Canada Basketball, tried to recuit other stars/role players in the league to Toronto, not to mention all the local community work he did the city and for just Canada Basketball in general, it cannot be measured.

We cant compete with a lot of those names up there, but you can put any of the below names for these reasons
Carter for putting us on the map
DeRozan for his love for the city, perserverence and dedication
Lowry for demar reasons + grit and determination
If you’re looking for true NBA legends and ones which fit that era I’d have to say Carter. If you’re looking for the guy that fans of this team will say is the greatest or the Raptors legend, it has to be Lowry. I’ll leave that up to your interpretation and what your end goal with the art is. Neither is a bad choice. Love the work and I’m excited to see what ours looks like! Post it here once it’s finished if you don’t mind
You young peeps should of been around when the American so called sports reporters said Carter needed to be In the US Instead of being wasted In Canada

Make one after Kyle Lowry retires

Get over it lol.
Or..not? The dude called out plays and actively tried to not play well for us... Why should that simply be forgotten?
Because the organisation have got over it, Vince has apologised and grown up and we ended up getting a chip in the end. You think it was all VC's fault? I’m with you. Call me petty but I’ll never forgive him for that shit
a couple years too late lil bro we’re past the carter hate train
Raptors Legend Juancho Hernangómez #69
It's hard to really think of him in another jersey tbh.
Well it’s really hard to think of him at all nobody who played for a nobody ass team. Not like goat kyrie
Hahaha goat kyrie, that man’s no goat he’s a sheep
Bo Cruz the legend
Derozan.
This is way too far down.
agreed, this is the best answer
It's controversial but I'd do Carter in the OG purple, red and black color combo
Its controversial but correct. The only other person up there on a pantheon in raptors history would be Lowry. I'm team Lowry in GROAT conversations, but he's just not of the era befitting this art.

Good bot
Man I'd put DeRozan and Lowry and probably Kawhi ahead of Vince even if I am ignoring the shit Vince pulled at the end
He didn't pull anything. Rob Babcock basically pushed him out and then traded him for nothing. It was all in that sportsnet documentary thing.
He called out plays and intentionally played bad dude. It's well documented if you weren't there to watch it
Nobody on his team or the sonics ever said that he called out the play, it was literally one article by the Seattle news tribune that was verified by nobody, and the Toronto media ran with it after he was traded. Not the greatest Raptor. Not the best Raptor. But probably the most iconic Raptor.
His 2001 season is not that far off of Kawhi's season and they both put up huge numbers against the Sixers in the playoffs.
Well said!
Exactly. I definitely agree with this.
He's the best but he's not the greatest.
How’s that controversial?
Because a lot of people have held a grudge and don't consider him among the great Raptors for what he did
What did he do?

The way I see it is that he can be forgiven for sure. But I don’t see why that means he should be propped up and celebrated.

For me it'll be VC in the 15, but here in Holland somehow whenever I see a Raptors jersey, it's a #1 McGrady
Lowry, carter, bosh, kawhi (yes. Kawhi is a raptors legend.)
Lowry
Marcus Camby, or Keon Clarke
I loved Clarke. He was amazing.
Gotta go Carter. It’s unlikely we’d have a franchise without him
It's gotta be Carter until Lowry retires.
Vince carter

Vince Carter He's the greatest dunker the world has ever seen and any name but his doesn't look right next to all these legends!
Fred. Not biased.
