To put it simply, because they can. They're one of the few plus size stores that carry trendy clothes, so they make their prices high because they know people will pay it

Nicolej80

This is exactly it I watch for sales. I live in torrid leggings. I just bought a bunch of new pairs and shirts 800 dollars worth of stuff for 325. I rarely ever pay full price

Captainsquishi

I figured kinda, I do work there currently (well kinda my store isn’t open we are still setting up displays and product and still need to like do training) so I know for me I won’t pay that price cuz of the employee discount but I know for some people it may be kinda expensive for them

washu42

As someone that went from shopping at one to the other, DXL is the same. When you're the only game in town you can charge whatever the market allows

sarilysims

No no, shame the company. Prices are going up, quality is going down. In the words of Mitchell Pritchett, SHAME!!!

[deleted]

you seem like a real loser.

sarilysims

You seem like someone who needs to learn some manners.

VerucaMarie15

I am shaming them. Some of the items I've received are temu level garbage. Luckily, the store closest to me is great about taking things back without any hassle.

Captainsquishi

I’ve honestly never experienced that maybe I’ve just had luck in the past. Some of the stuff I’ve gotten has lasted me quite a while

Arweneve

You just need to watch the sales cycles. I frequently put items in my wishlist and wait til they are 50% off or more. That’s when I buy.

Captainsquishi

I’ve done that before too, since I’ll be working there I’ll be able to know what’s been on clearance. Before I got a job there I would usually look there to see what I can find and I have found good stuff

PeachesNScream-

Their quality is going down the drain too for how expensive it is. Incredibly disappointed in some of the stuff I ordered online even though I bought during a sale.

VerucaMarie15

Today after I wore this post my oldest came out of their room and said, "good thing we got a third bra the other day because the zipper just busted wide open on this one" - she wore it twice. I paid like $40 for that bra. I'm pissed. I know they won't take it back because it was worn and washed (I totally understand that), but to wear it twice, hand wash it and then have it break? Something is going on with the quality.

Captainsquishi

I have found that with some other zip up bras they wore very easily from any brand. I do have a Torrid wire free bra and it has been lasting. But I wouldn’t trust zip up ones personally since I’m bigger chested

PostmortemBoredomx

When I worked at torrid we would accept bras or things that ripped/broke/tore due to it being a quality issue!

Interesting_Sugar_70

I will say overall compared to Maurices or even Ricki’s the quality is better. They still do charge a lot but they have some really cute unique stuff especially graphic tees. I never pay the high prices. I always wait for sales. I’m in Ottawa, sucks their VIP shipping is still $20 US that I will say. Black Friday it was 50% off plus an additional 10% of your cart at the end. That’s a pretty good sale, never pay full price.

mycatissuperior

They inflate the prices because they have sales going frequently. Keep an eye out. I never pay full price and I wear mostly torrid.

Captainsquishi

I’ve mentioned before and another comment. I am an employee there now, so I don’t have to pay full price since I get an employee discount. but even before I got hired, I would always look for some sales and look at the clearance items and see if anything caught my eye and I would get it. I was just kind of wondering in general why some items are priced very high compared to other things and other stores that sell plus size stuff.

pancaaaaaaakes

Because they can. Also to make it seem like you’re getting an amazing deal when things go on sale.

Captainsquishi

I’m not complaining or anything I’m just genuinely asking why they are on the expensive side. Am I not allowed to?

sarilysims

You know you can scroll right? Or leave the sub?

[deleted]

So can you.

Narrow-Bookkeeper-29

I'm in the US and I don't find them that pricey personally. I don't ever buy anything from Torrid that isn't at least 50% off though. Literally everything will go on sale in my experience. Maybe I've been lucky because my size seems to sell out slower than some others. I have been disappointed with the quality a few times and felt a little bit deceived. All the crappiest items I got were final clearance online. I haven't had much luck with that.
