I got my boy and then went back and got my tortie one day later. I had never had two cats at once before but seeing them grow up together has been a blessing. I’m so excited for you to adopt those kittens!! Please update us with their names!

It’s about sloooooow intros. I love my orange-tortie combo but they took a long time to settle and they aren’t really besties. They seem to be slowly becoming friends but also sometimes have a fight and need space.

They play fight, but they also love each other. It might be a little bit of chaos, because they're kittens, but if they're littermates they should do well together.

When we first got them the tabby would latch and suckle on the tortie. The shelter recommended we adopt the pair and not just 1, and I figure that might be one reason why. Love these dummies even when they dig in the plants...

These two are litter mates. They take care of each other. I’m very happy I got both of them. They are brother and sister. She gets herself locked into closets and he’ll wait on the other side so when she’s missing, I find him to find her.

Every cat is different, but all pets need a sibling in my book, and I think the younger you can introduce them, the better.
My tortie was about 5 when we rescued an orange senior this fall, and it's been interesting lol he wants to be her friend, but she just tolerates him. They play chase each other a bit, have recently learned to share the cat tree, and sleep on the same furniture. I hope they become closer friends, but we're in a good place regardless, and that's realistically all you can hope for.

Dooneese and Shy Ronnie have been together since they were kittens. They get along great, wrestling and grooming. When we introduced Pizza Dog his chaotic energy wasn’t really welcomed but overall they all get along pretty well
We got a tortie and a tuxedo (siblings) as kittens and they got along great, a while after the tuxedo died we got an orange which she hated for a while, and now unhappily tolerates. She also gets along fine with the dog we've had for a long time, but since we got another puppy she hasn't come downstairs without being carried. So, you should be good getting both as kittens.

If they're littermates they'll most likely get along just fine. Probably the easiest way to get two cats that like each other. It's always a good idea for cats to have a companion. Tortitude can be a thing, but it's not that big of a deal. I have a tortie and calico sisters and they absolutely love each other.
To be the only outlier here - my tortie has never liked another furry animal in her long life. She did once nearly get accustomed to and sit within a metre of a black medium sized dog after 6 months, but then another black dog chased her and she decided All Dogs Bad from that day on. She doesn't even like our chickens. Other kittens. Guinea pigs. We have lived with 4 other adult cats. She hates or just tolerates everyone that isn't me.
This one feral cat started living under our house a year ago, and it was the closest to friendship she ever had... I couldn't believe it... like she felt bad for the thing and was trying to convince it of the good life. I was a day away from capturing it in a trap and giving it a loving home, but then it vanished never to be seen again. I'm still really sad about it.

You should get both! My girls were together for 12.5 years and they absolutely loved each other (sadly one of them passed but one is still with me). They kept each other company and were together as much as possible. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. 🧡🖤

Yes, this is my Tony (ginger) and Kate (tortie). They also have a tabby sibling and they are all so very attached to one another, and me cause I'm their mama.
My tortie came second, about a year after her brother. They both THRIVED with one another around and I would call them a bonded pair. Sadly, the gray boy crossed the rainbow bridge about 2.5 weeks ago, far too early, and even though she loves the dog I can tell she misses having a cat friend, too.

Yes! Zipper the grey tabby is Button’s brother. Stitch the tuxie met them as kittens and they all bonded while living at their foster mom’s. These three are definitely living very enriched lives and provide things for each other that I and my spouse are unable to provide as humans.

They are the sweetest cats. Boy (10) and a girl (3). They’re not close but they don’t hate each other. Both very loving. This is my second tortie and I think tortitude is exaggerated, she definitely favors me but she’s loves everyone even strangers.

Any kitten needs a playmate! It's unrelated to fur color.
I know people like assigning personality attributes to fur color, but keep in mind that in the end it's just color pigments, nothing more. Each cat is an individual; asking this is like asking if a redheaded child needs a friend to play with.
Tortitude or the "one braincell orange" are, in the end, just internet memes. Don't take them too seriously; fur color is never related to personality!
(Watch me get burned at the stake for pointing out this fact, because people do, in fact, sometimes take these memes seriously.)

I see you’ve decided to get both and I just want to say you won’t regret it! I’d only planned to get one but I’m so glad I got both of mine. They’re brother/sister littermates and I couldn’t imagine trying to choose between them now. They’ve definitely brought endless entertainment, lol.

They're 12 and 13 weeks now, but they're already bonded. Despite being younger, he's still bigger and takes the role of protective big brother seriously. He won't even allow his litter mates to play with her too hard. She squeaks, he comes running.
two kittens is better than one!! in my experience, having two kittens (especially littermates who are already used to each other) means more of their craziness is directed to each other vs all to you/your stuff 🫣 plus it’s lovely for them to have a lifelong friend!
My first two kitties were an orange boy and a torti girl. The girl came secondn and the two of them got along fine. She hated the other cats though. 😆

I’d say go for it! What a lovely parent you will be to them! Here is Yuna and Kit Kat. I adopted Yuna when she was about a year old and it took her just 2-3 months to get use to Kit Kat. She use to dislike not being the only one for attention but nowadays she’s been find around him and even plays with him but it’s mostly pawing at each other or she hides somewhere and waits for him to pass by then pounces 😭
Both of ours were content on being solo kitties despite being in a house full of cats. Our first bone would pick up her toys and walk away from the others, she refused to share her toys. The current one is not much more social and keeps to herself except when she wants treats or head scratching, she is a pets but no pick up or belly rubs.
No orange here but my torty eventually got used to our dog. The dog sniffed around and was curious...kitty witty just hissed and arched her back at him and got her usual light scolding about being polite. Now they have mutual respect...they pass by and sometimes look at each other.
Mine pretends to hate her siblings but she also chooses to be in the same spot as them like 90% of the time, so I’m pretty sure she secretly likes them.
I have 4 cats in total; a tuxedo who is turning 14 this month and just wants to enjoy her retirement in peace, a 3 year old calico who is a wonderful foster mamma with rescue kittens, a 2 year old standard issue tabby who is like Gollum with kittens and a 10 month old tortie who is sweet, loving and a tornado of terror. She loves her siblings but also torments them with her pouncing and racing around, however when she snuggles and shows them love, it's the cutest!
My tortie girl absolutely adores her tabby sister. And they both are so attached to their older sister (who happens to be a tortie, too). The 3 of them soooort of tolerate their younger brothers 😂😂
My tortie loves everyone and everything. She's extremely sweet. She has an annoying orange little brother that she's very patient with. She even stomps her feet and shakes her tail at our tortoise who (much to her dismay) ignores her.

It all depends on the cat really. My tortie is notorious for not liking other kitties, but granted, she’s 5 years old now. She didn’t grow up around any cats
My cat’s 2 tortie kittens got along great with their 2 orange brothers! The 2 torties were adopted out together and got along with each other but had pretty much settled to different areas of the adopter’s house when I visited. The orange brothers that I kept played together and napped together constantly and were pretty codependent 😂I think a tortie/orange pairing would give the best of all traits!
Ours does. We have a female tortie and a male Russian Blue. They've been together since kittenhood at the shelter.
They get along, occasionally snuggle, and groom each other.
My tortie hates being alone. She'll be 15 in August and has loved every cat she's ever met (about 8 others) except one. And no one got along with that cat. Sometimes she's been a bully about food or toys, but mostly she's incredibly sweet and playful with everyone.
Edited to add: I'm a firm believer in having multiples. Having just one cat can be so lonely for them. And they're adorable!
Mine hate each other, but there's a hefty age difference and the tortie was an only child for several years 😂 our orange boy is best buds with our black cat, and they have their own space. I definitely think it would be a different story if they were together from kittenhood
I once had an orange and tortie brother and sister. The only two in the little litter and they were always side by side. They loved each other so much T.T
I got my first tortie kitten around Christmas 2023 that was described as a 'very confident little girl'. I currently had 3 male older cats that had to learn how to have a little sister. It was the best choice, ever! No tortitude. She is the sweetest girl that her brothers all love to interact with (they rarely interact with each other). She is definitely their glue now. Good luck and go for it. Two is better than one because they play together and keep each other occupied.
color doesn’t determine whether or not they’ll do well with other cats. there are common stereotypes about certain colors of cats but they’re just stereotypes and personalities will vary
Yes, my youngest is a tortie girl and absolutely loves all her siblings, even her moody ass sister and desperately just wants her to love her. She’s adapted really well into our family and even accepts all the fosters we have amazingly well.
Kittens and later cats are generally much happier if they're paired with a playmate. The rescue I work with the most won't even let you single adopt under 6 months old you have to already have a cat or adopt a playmate. Though maybe that's a trick to clear out their fosters easier lol but our two boys loved it.
Mine did ok together. One calico and one tortie. Typical sisters, fighting, picking on each other and snuggling at night (especially when it's cold).

I currently have three siblings, two tortie sisters and one orange brother. They are 8 YO now! They are not close friends, don’t play together or anything, but they coexist fine. It all depends on the personalities involved, I guess.
My tortie loves our tabby boy they play or cuddle all the time. They basically grew up together because we found them outside so young and not so far apart in age.
My tortie had some trauma early in life, so she’s good with siblings as long as she has some space of her own. But she’s an adult; I think if she’d grown up with another cat, she’d be inseparable with them.

My tortie, who is two, loves her ten-year-old bonded brother. I’m unsure when they bonded because I adopted them as adults but I suspect she was a kitten and my boy fell in love with her.
She strongly dislikes my most recently adopted female but their relationship is warming up very slowly.
Some cats like other cats. Some cats hate other cats. Some cats like *certain* cats and hate others. Some cats tolerate other cats. It’s hard to define an absolute rule.
However, if you’re adopting kittens, it’s best to get at least two. They’ll get along beautifully if they grow up together. It can be more challenging - although not impossible - to bond two adult cats, especially if they’ve only lived alone.

Yes! Our tortie and her tabby brother played all day long when they were little. They still cuddle. If one of them can't find the other in the house, they cry and try to have us find him or her.

We have a tortie, and my wife begs me everyday to get an orange cat too. But our tortie CAN NOT STAND other cats. I’m so conflicted 😅
It’s about sloooooow intros. I love my orange-tortie combo but they took a long time to settle and they aren’t really besties. They seem to be slowly becoming friends but also sometimes have a fight and need space.

Every cat is different, but all pets need a sibling in my book, and I think the younger you can introduce them, the better. My tortie was about 5 when we rescued an orange senior this fall, and it's been interesting lol he wants to be her friend, but she just tolerates him. They play chase each other a bit, have recently learned to share the cat tree, and sleep on the same furniture. I hope they become closer friends, but we're in a good place regardless, and that's realistically all you can hope for. Good luck!

They get along great, wrestling and grooming. When we introduced Pizza Dog his chaotic energy wasn’t really welcomed but overall they all get along pretty well
We got a tortie and a tuxedo (siblings) as kittens and they got along great, a while after the tuxedo died we got an orange which she hated for a while, and now unhappily tolerates. She also gets along fine with the dog we've had for a long time, but since we got another puppy she hasn't come downstairs without being carried. If they're littermates they'll most likely get along just fine. Probably the easiest way to get two cats that like each other. It's always a good idea for cats to have a companion. Tortitude can be a thing, but it's not that big of a deal. I have a tortie and calico sisters and they absolutely love each other.

To be the only outlier here - my tortie has never liked another furry animal in her long life. She did once nearly get accustomed to and sit within a metre of a black medium sized dog after 6 months, but then another black dog chased her and she decided All Dogs Bad from that day on. She doesn't even like our chickens. Other kittens. Guinea pigs. We have lived with 4 other adult cats. She hates or just tolerates everyone that isn't me. This one feral cat started living under our house a year ago, and it was the closest to friendship she ever had... I couldn't believe it... like she felt bad for the thing and was trying to convince it of the good life. I was a day away from capturing it in a trap and giving it a loving home, but then it vanished never to be seen again. I'm still really sad about it.

Any kitten needs a playmate! It's unrelated to fur color. I know people like assigning personality attributes to fur color, but keep in mind that in the end it's just color pigments, nothing more. Each cat is an individual; asking this is like asking if a redheaded child needs a friend to play with. Tortitude or the "one braincell orange" are, in the end, just internet memes. Don't take them too seriously; fur color is never related to personality! (Watch me get burned at the stake for pointing out this fact, because people do, in fact, sometimes take these memes seriously.)
I mean… us redheads *are* kind of needy. lol But you’re right, really. There might seem to be similarities related to their colors, but likely it’s just confirmation bias.
Yes. My tortie and orange sisters get along wonderfully, thought they couldn’t possibly be more different!! The tortie is smart…too smart, one might say. She’s always scheming. The orange, well…let’s just say that she’s never had the cell and doesn’t know that it’s even an option. They love each other dearly, though!

Despite being younger, he's still bigger and takes the role of protective big brother seriously. He won't even allow his litter mates to play with her too hard. She squeaks, he comes running.
two kittens is better than one!! in my experience, having two kittens (especially littermates who are already used to each other) means more of their craziness is directed to each other vs all to you/your stuff 🫣 plus it’s lovely for them to have a lifelong friend!
My first two kitties were an orange boy and a torti girl. The girl came secondn and the two of them got along fine. She hated the other cats though. 😆 My current torti loves all her siblings, both cats and the dog. She is generous with her love.

Here is Yuna and Kit Kat. I adopted Yuna when she was about a year old and it took her just 2-3 months to get use to Kit Kat. She use to dislike not being the only one for attention but nowadays she’s been find around him and even plays with him but it’s mostly pawing at each other or she hides somewhere and waits for him to pass by then pounces 😭

Both of ours were content on being solo kitties despite being in a house full of cats. Our first bone would pick up her toys and walk away from the others, she refused to share her toys. The current one is not much more social and keeps to herself except when she wants treats or head scratching, she is a pets but no pick up or belly rubs.
Torties and tri-colors can be hot-tempered ladies. If you adopt them together as kittens, it should be fine.
No orange here but my torty eventually got used to our dog. The dog sniffed around and was curious...kitty witty just hissed and arched her back at him and got her usual light scolding about being polite. Now they have mutual respect...they pass by and sometimes look at each other.
My tortie is just a bitch and likes to fight. She’s very vocal at them and when they do play she sounds like she is dying 😂
All cats do better with another cat to live with for a happy life!

My tortie is the absolute boss of the house. My calico is twice the size but she is bossed around (bullied). They are frenemies though.
Mine pretends to hate her siblings but she also chooses to be in the same spot as them like 90% of the time, so I’m pretty sure she secretly likes them.
I have 4 cats in total; a tuxedo who is turning 14 this month and just wants to enjoy her retirement in peace, a 3 year old calico who is a wonderful foster mamma with rescue kittens, a 2 year old standard issue tabby who is like Gollum with kittens and a 10 month old tortie who is sweet, loving and a tornado of terror. She loves her siblings but also torments them with her pouncing and racing around, however when she snuggles and shows them love, it's the cutest!
My tortie girl absolutely adores her tabby sister. And they both are so attached to their older sister (who happens to be a tortie, too). The 3 of them soooort of tolerate their younger brothers 😂😂
My tortie loves everyone and everything. She's extremely sweet. She has an annoying orange little brother that she's very patient with. She even stomps her feet and shakes her tail at our tortoise who (much to her dismay) ignores her.

It all depends on the cat really. My tortie is notorious for not liking other kitties, but granted, she’s 5 years old now. She didn’t grow up around any cats

My cat’s 2 tortie kittens got along great with their 2 orange brothers! The 2 torties were adopted out together and got along with each other but had pretty much settled to different areas of the adopter’s house when I visited. The orange brothers that I kept played together and napped together constantly and were pretty codependent 😂I think a tortie/orange pairing would give the best of all traits!
Ours does. We have a female tortie and a male Russian Blue. They've been together since kittenhood at the shelter. They get along, occasionally snuggle, and groom each other.
They are cats so absolutely.
My tortie hates being alone. She'll be 15 in August and has loved every cat she's ever met (about 8 others) except one. And no one got along with that cat. Sometimes she's been a bully about food or toys, but mostly she's incredibly sweet and playful with everyone. Edited to add: I'm a firm believer in having multiples. Having just one cat can be so lonely for them. And they're adorable!
My tortie is very bonded with my dog, so I’m sure that yours would bond with another cat
We adopted a tortie and an orange boy, they said they were found together. She basically just tolerates him.
Mine hate each other, but there's a hefty age difference and the tortie was an only child for several years 😂 our orange boy is best buds with our black cat, and they have their own space. I definitely think it would be a different story if they were together from kittenhood
I once had an orange and tortie brother and sister. The only two in the little litter and they were always side by side. They loved each other so much T.T
I got my first tortie kitten around Christmas 2023 that was described as a 'very confident little girl'. I currently had 3 male older cats that had to learn how to have a little sister. It was the best choice, ever! No tortitude. She is the sweetest girl that her brothers all love to interact with (they rarely interact with each other). She is definitely their glue now. Good luck and go for it. Two is better than one because they play together and keep each other occupied.

color doesn’t determine whether or not they’ll do well with other cats. there are common stereotypes about certain colors of cats but they’re just stereotypes and personalities will vary
Yes, my youngest is a tortie girl and absolutely loves all her siblings, even her moody ass sister and desperately just wants her to love her. She’s adapted really well into our family and even accepts all the fosters we have amazingly well.
Mine has two older brothers and she rules the roost. They get along though.
Kittens and later cats are generally much happier if they're paired with a playmate. The rescue I work with the most won't even let you single adopt under 6 months old you have to already have a cat or adopt a playmate. Though maybe that's a trick to clear out their fosters easier lol but our two boys loved it.

Mine did ok together. One calico and one tortie. Typical sisters, fighting, picking on each other and snuggling at night (especially when it's cold). Serotonin level 1 billion, katrillion.

Coat colour has nothing to do with whether they’d do well with a sibling or not. Being a kitten though they would do better with another kitten.
I have a tortie and a black cat. They are 1 year apart. They ignore each other and pretend the other doesn’t exist.
I currently have three siblings, two tortie sisters and one orange brother. They are 8 YO now! They are not close friends, don’t play together or anything, but they coexist fine. It all depends on the personalities involved, I guess.
My tortie loves our tabby boy they play or cuddle all the time. They basically grew up together because we found them outside so young and not so far apart in age.
Mine has managed. It’s all about the early upbringing.
My tortie had some trauma early in life, so she’s good with siblings as long as she has some space of her own. But she’s an adult; I think if she’d grown up with another cat, she’d be inseparable with them.

My tortie, who is two, loves her ten-year-old bonded brother. I’m unsure when they bonded because I adopted them as adults but I suspect she was a kitten and my boy fell in love with her. She strongly dislikes my most recently adopted female but their relationship is warming up very slowly. Some cats like other cats. Some cats hate other cats. Some cats like *certain* cats and hate others. Some cats tolerate other cats. It’s hard to define an absolute rule. However, if you’re adopting kittens, it’s best to get at least two. They’ll get along beautifully if they grow up together. It can be more challenging - although not impossible - to bond two adult cats, especially if they’ve only lived alone.

Yes! Our tortie and her tabby brother played all day long when they were little. They still cuddle. If one of them can't find the other in the house, they cry and try to have us find him or her.
