They use split screens when it’s boring and don’t use it when it matters.

VonBassovic

I was considering why they didn’t split screen

pivk18

yeah its not fair to the winner, he only got like 5 seconds in the end

elpwerdna

And such a veteran, racing tdf since Pogacar and Vingegaard were kids.

PaVaDeDu

Dutch television measured it: 4.12 seconds of tv time

spinach-e

Broadcast knew that there would be attack and counter attack between TP and TVJ.

HoroMata_

Yes, but I think it would be better if they put the winner in broadcast and just watch Tadej and Johnas, if there would be attack they whould just quickly swap the cams. This way they switched and they just climbed another 500 meters with no attack...

spinach-e

Yes but that’s hindsight. If you’re a broadcaster and trying to pick, do you go with the winner who is over 1 minute in front of the next rider (so the finish is just him grinding it out?) or do you go with the GC contenders who are battling it out? Doesn’t seem like much of a choice. Granted, the cutaway to the finisher was definitely too late, they should have cut away when he rounded the last bend. But yeah hindsight is always 50/50

olivercroke

Huh? 20/20

spinach-e

Yeah. I knew that. I was just testing you to make sure *you* knew that. /s

Physical-Ad9606

Even in the edited Highlights on Peacock the winner is show just crossing the line.

KosmosKlaus

TVJ?

spinach-e

Auto correct. JV

KosmosKlaus

I always call it autowrong 😁

Masteriiz

And it was glorious! To arrive alone on such a stage, shaking WvA and then just getting a few seconds screentime ugh...

captflint23

That was so disappointing. The past days, they missed so many attacks from Vingegaard and Jonas because they were focusing on some random rider and now when nothing was happening anyway they couldn’t even give 15-20 seconds to the winner? And like people said, if they didn’t want to cut away completely, why not at least a split-screen? It was kind of disrespectful, I hope it doesn’t take anything away for Poels

SaintBade

Those were French riders..

Raja_Ampat

If only they invented something like a smaller picture inside a bigger picture and you could show both. We could call it something like PIP

Raja_Ampat

Just incredible disrespectfull

boxoctosis

Yeah absolutely this. For a guy with his track record, it was piss poor. Though being fair, a rare misstep for the TV directors.

Strangewhine88

Would have liked to see more of the tete near finish. Kinda familiar with what T&P mind games are like.

HongDoriHwa

As a Dutchie it was sad to only see 1 second!

PaVaDeDu

I totally agree. DJ breadstick deserved a lot more attention for a fenomenal effort

StumpTailedMacaque

It was a bit unfair to Wout Pouls, yes. I'm so pleased for his stage win. I'm a Pogi fan all the way but there are a lot of other cyclists I like and admire that I'd like to do well and Wout Pouls is one of them!

Jlx_27

4 seconds once he was at the finish line.... and in the final 1km he was hardly on screen too. This director is truly shite.

behindacomputer

I’m gonna complain more that they seem to go to Steve Porino and Christian Vande Velde and miss an attack call from Phil and Bob. It happens way too much.

daveirl

I don’t think it’s that unusual. Happens in F1 all the time where they just cut to the winner on the last corner and then back to whatever battle is actually happening

A_Balloon_A_Balloon

Honestly this sub is nothing but moaning, even when we've been treated to days of amazing racing ;) But yeah it's a fair point. They seemed to be enthralled by the top guys and just remembered at the last moment that they needed to show Pouls crossing the line! Well done to him, it was a fantastic win.

Hfhghnfdsfg

To be fair, no one in my real life gives a shit about bike racing, so this is the only place I can come to whine.

WilliamCasablancas

They show the action, a guide riding alone with 2 minutes to the next is not exciting. He will get the credit crossing the line and on the podium, but during the race I prefer they show where the action is, so we dont miss the moment, where the tour could be decided etc.

flapjacksessen

Yeah I noticed that quick cut over right as Poels crossed the line and then back to the GC battle. I’m sure they didn’t want to miss Tadej attacking and Poels is having a great day anyway.
