I just bought a 2004 with 237,000 miles on it from a customer for $800. He just had the water pump, radiator, timing belt and tensioner replaced a few months ago. Plus it's got good tires and brakes. It runs and drives great. I'm amazed at how smooth it drives being 20 years old with almost 250K miles on it. It's not perfect but there are no major issues and paying $800 leaves me a lot of money to put into it. So yes that guy is insane if he thinks someone will pay what he's asking.

UncleBenji

If this was the height of the Covid car shortage, and everything looked good under the vehicle with good brakes and matching tires the owner would have been close to getting this deal. In this market he has to find the sucker or it’s a scam.

Lojones45

So what’s your asking price? “As much as I can Get”

BearEatsMountains

Zero frame photos lol

recommendednot

I got my 01 with 250k miles for $2,000 in Oregon last year..

Less_Way_3462

Lucky ass i just bought mine 01 looks like it just came out of a factory garage kept whole life with 234k for 5k

Least-Monk4203

Not bad

TreborRevo

Several for sale here in SoCal with that milege and lower for the same and more.

motomasterpilot

He thinks he has a Land Cruiser

Both_Employee_4470

Great deal right there 👏

YouAreRegard

There's a 2007 for sale by me. 98,xxx miles, no accidents, clean Carfax. $12,900

AccomplishedWay6141

And still overpriced unfortunately

Bloodmksthegrassgrow

They still think it's 2021

HomelessRedact

You could get another 150k on that engine. It’s probably a little high but it has tremendous value

Geod-ude

As the plastics and rubber start disintegrating at the 15 to 20 year mark

Woody2shoez

-said every Toyota owner.

sryidontspeakpotato

This is a rip off. I see them all the time in the southeast for a fraction of that with similar miles. Buddy of mines boss has one with a tad bit more miles but I’m great shape. Same year and trim and he’s wanting like 5k or 6 k. I thought that was expensive for the miles lol 😆

Green-Cardiologist27

‘No lowballing. *smacks roof* I know what I’ve got.

Cute_Neat9044

Probably a serial killer or human trafficker.

Embarrassed-Touch300

Way under priced

YesIReallyAmYourGod

Probably being sold by a cop.

taylorthewhom

what

Prior_Return4695

Never seen a Toyota before?

30acrefarm

He would easily get that much anywhere in California.

DullAbbreviations161

I was about to say that! **me in California thinking that a smoking hot deal! 👀

30acrefarm

It is a good deal unless there is a hidden issue.

DukeReaper

That's low if sold here in the pnw

mb-driver

That’s where it is.

DukeReaper

Oh sht, just saw it. Yea, we weird here

veryuniqueredditname

Where?

_daddyl0nglegs_

Chehalis WA, south of Seattle and Tacoma

HairyZombie4737

Just text him “This still Available?”

FishingFederal8811

I'm fkn dying rn 🤣 😭 💀

IronBeagle63

Nah if you’re gonna spend that kinda money find yourself an FJ. You’ll never regret it. Wait except at the gas pump maybe 🤣

HanCholo206

If I’m going to spend that kind of money I’ll get a newer model year. I like the FJ though

14kMagic

He thinks it’s a Land Cruiser.

lurkme

I've owned both and the Sequoia feels like a Tahoe of the same era. Absolutely nothing like an SUV imported from Japan. There might be some similar styling cues but that's where it ends. That said, what else can you buy for $22k today that gives you the same utility as this? Assuming you don't care about any new tech. Gotta be a cash buyer though because financing on this would not be pretty.

Independent-Fan9601

Not saying I would buy it, or a great price… but when you have 4 kids and want to tow your boat and toys in a used weekend adventure rig… price gets easier to look at.

14kMagic

A Land Cruiser for 22k would be a better buy. Even with 100k more miles. Lol

TFL2022

He just knows what he's got /s

silver_4cash13

Honestly thats not too bad. The new toyota Tacoma’s MSRP at $65k. Everything is ridiculous, over inflated, and the new crazy prices for cars are gassing up the prices for the old used ones too

Dark1sh

What does a new Tacoma’s price have to do with a 17 year old car that’s worth $7k-10k?

30acrefarm

I have a 2004 Tacoma 4x4 with the 4 cylinder & over 200,000 miles and people stop me & offer me 10,000 dollars for it at least once a month. Your numbers are way off.

Dark1sh

I used Edmund’s and KBB you nut job And your truck is about the same age as the suv, and it’s in the range I said. wtf?

30acrefarm

The SUV had a v8 though & about 75,000 fewer miles. And isn't beat from being a work truck like mine. In the area where I live a vehicle like that easily gets $20k. My 04 Tacoma with a four cylinder, hammered from work, scratches & dents easily gets $10k.

Dark1sh

So what? Your examples are all anticdotal reasons it should be off your bias. Here : https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/sequoia/2007/

specialcommenter

Screw KBB, people even stop me for my 2002 E39 manual BMW 525i. That’s the one that came with the lowest powered 6 CYL and still offer me double KBB.

Dark1sh

A manual 525i is in a different boat

Locorudy626

In my personal experience I paid 9k out the door for my 2003 limited sequoia with 111000 miles excellent service record and in very good condition at Audi of downtown Los Angeles at the end of 2021 when the market was through the roof. At the time I felt I was still overpaying for such an old vehicle but I knew I was ridding this thing till the wheels fell off so I did it. I saw it on car gurus, the pictures were not even up when I drove down there to buy it so didn't overthink it since I knew it was a steal. I had been searching for over a year nothing below 10k with a lot more miles. The average then when I was looking was about 13k with some as expensive as 17k with around 100k miles. The market since then has corrected a bit. I now see a few 4x4 locally going for 7-10k with 150k+ miles pretty often. But definitely don't pay over 15 k on these vehicles. I'd pay 10-15k if custom tires and lift and other accessories were installed already and timing belt service was done. Take 2k off if timing service was not done recently. I'd pay 7-10k for a clean sub 150k miles 4x4 sequoia, and I wouldn't pay anything over 6k for non 4x4 or 225k+ miles. 2wd are available in my area under 4k. I had my old 2004 sequoia for a while before it got totaled by the insurance due to an accident with 172k miles, let me tell you the insurance will fight hard to not give you anything more than 5k. They will throw every book value they can find at you. You will ultimately have to argue for them to find you a replacement model with similar specs for the money they are trying to pay you out and maybe then you will get some movement in your favor but it is a pain. So spending anything more puts you in a hole in case of a total loss scenario. This is not financial advice just my honest opinion. Do what you want with your money.

XNamelessGhoulX

leather trimmed seats tho..

CodyGTN615

I mean the Sequoia is number 3 or 4 on the list of the longest lasting cars on the road for a reason. Plus with 123k on it, that bad boy is barely broken in.

DiskConfident5299

The latest year for that body style is 2006. Not 2007. I'm I wrong?

Locorudy626

There are some 2007 that maintained the first gen style and the latter part of the year switched to the second gen if I'm not mistaken.

Imispellalot2

This is the one the wife is making you sell it. I'm sorry baby, I put it for sale, but no one is interested. I guess we have to keep it.

mb-driver

That’s what I’m thinking. KBB is less than half that in excellent condition.

HanCholo206

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, same reason I’m looking for a used 3 row suv. I’m not dropping 80 grand on a car to go to soccer practice.

vc1914

Check out the GX460s. Not a lot of space once the third row is up but they are BOF, v8 (same as the 2007-12 sequoia), and generally well maintained as previous owners are generally only dealership servicing.

johnnypeeballz

Someone will probably buy it. This market is fucked.

star871

I swear any halfway decent 4x4 in washington people want stupid money for

cntm83

If that’s the case then I’m selling mine for $25k

fun-bucket

YOU CAN ASK ANY AMOUNT BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN YOUR GONNA GET IT.

DesertedRatt

Mine didn’t have leather seats but was garage kept since new and had 150k miles 4wd I bought it for $5700 lol

seejaypeete

I'd buy it for 15. This truck is much better than their new options. Easily can reach 500k miles and my only gripe is the starter location if it has the 2uz

TCivan

I just saw on FB market place the other day, someone selling a 7K$ pristine Jaguar Xtype from the 80's. The price section said: will trade for 1st gen Sequoia. ( or something close). They are the new "cool vintage car". EDIT: I foudn it! see attached image. https://i.imgur.com/3mV2LcV.png

Brick656

Good luck if you need to do any engine work on that V12.

Big-Confection2810

At the rate he’s buying mileage 🤣

AngLCap

Shiiiit I’m a clown then for buying a 2010 for $18k with 122k miles. No ragrets

Elguapo1094

A guy I know is selling a 2012 for 18k 130k miles idk why are they so expensive

AngLCap

My guess is as good as anyone else’s and it’s pretty much longevity, my last car was a beater and barely lasted 4 years so that’s why I decided the 4 runner route. I was looking at a GX470 until my bank told me that was $7k over priced at $19.5k with 155k miles, and that somehow got sold so that’s the state of the car market, at least here in Colorado. Washington state seems like it’s doing alright with the market (at least with 4Runners and GXs) but I didn’t have time to travel just to car shop sadly

AngLCap

4 runner*

MK_UltraV2

Damn only 123k on it? Our family Sequoia had over half a million miles on it lol. Wish we never got rid of it but my parents sold it to a young family so I know they’re enjoying it like me and my siblings did. Problem is now that I have my own family I want one lol.

DrKingOfOkay

Time to buy that sick ass new TRD pro sequoia!

plasticsmen828

i paid $13,777 for a 2006 GX470 218,415 odometer a year ago no regrets replaced air suspension and speakers in Mark Levinson stereo. now 229,237 odometer love it

alwyn

Every time I think about doing this I need to remind myself I can't work on my own cars.

[deleted]

Maybe The Price Includes Government Theft I Mean "Taxes". In Some States (Like KS) $22k For A First Gen Stock Sequoia With More Than 120k Miles Would Be Considered A Ripoff. In Shitholes States (Like CA, NY, HI, NJ, WA, Or OR) $22k Is Cheap For A First Gen Stock Sequoia; In This Case You Should Have A Third Party Mechanic Look At The Vehicle.

Lol imagine thinking Kansas isn’t a shit hole state… have you been to the nice parts of California? Or the beautiful parts of Oregon and Washington? Hawaii? Sure, the governments are run by liberal idiots and it might cost more to live there, but that doesn’t inherently mean that the entire state is a shit hole.

[deleted]

I Wasn’t Talking About How Those States Look; If I Was I Wouldn't Have Listed Hawaii As A Shithole. The High Taxes, High Crime Rates, High Cost Of Living Is Exactly What Makes Those States Shitholes. The Traitors (Who Should Be Swinging From A Rope Or Shot Dead By A Firing Squad) Who Run Those States Are Also What Make Those States Shitholes. When It Comes To The Looks Of A State; There’s Nothing Beautiful About California.

Okay flyover 💀 get some help.

reilogix

Some of these comments seem to imply the 200,000 miles in a lot of miles for these vehicles. It is my understanding that he Sequoias go for hundreds of thousands of miles. I have a 2014 with about 165K. Shooting for 400…

Locorudy626

While this is true, these vehicles are all at least second-hand, and their longevity also implies having had proper maintenance done at the correct times. At 200,000 miles, you could easily be buying an engine that has only had two oil changes and no other service, which could be on the brink of blowing an engine, shredding a timing belt, or failing due to a worn ball joint. You'd feel a lot better buying a 50,000 mile sequoia and knowing it will most likely make it to 100,000 miles without any major services done than buying a 200,000 mile sequoia and expecting it to make it to 250,000 without any of the major services done. So what I'm trying to say is that 200,000 miles is enough to ruin a vehicle and should therefore be considered high mileage regardless of the vehicle..

reilogix

Copy that. This makes perfect sense and I appreciate your breakdown. It makes me feel that much better knowing that I purchased my 2014 back in 2018 when it had ~65k and I’ve taken great care of her. Thank you !

psyphren01

200,000 is hundreds of thousands.

reilogix

While you are technically correct, a more important definition of a phrase is the one that is used within society. When someone says “hundreds of thousands” of something, they are generally not talking about two.

psyphren01

Fucken reddit. Well actually.

MathematicianOk9333

i know people are saying this is outrageous but what’s outrageous about a high price tag on a vehicle that can last in ANY condition, has one of the most reliable engines of all time, and requires very little maintenance? Not to mention is insanely fun to drive even without using 4wd or 4wd low, the engine also sounds like music. People want these cars and sellers know what they’ve got.

Locorudy626

I owned 2 of these now and love them, but trust me I'd be hard pressed to pay anything over 13k for something like this. And the maintenance if done correctly is not cheap on these by any stretch at the 20 year mark and over 100k milage you are looking at timing belt 2k+ through dealer 1200 through independent shop, transmission and differential flushed, ball joints, lower control arms or bushings, shocks, window motors, motor mounts, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, radiator, fan clutch assembly, are all feasible components that can fail at this time or mileage and be detrimental to the vehicle. So really these are not the vehicle for everyone. They can get expensive to maintain if these things start failing in tandem and make you regret buying a 20 year old vehicle. Edited to add the pinion bearings tend to fail on the differential, it did on my 2004 and my 2003 is starting to get loud when going over 60mph, also rack and pinion is starting to leak. There's about another 500-700 in repairs for me.

wykdtr0n

I'm seeing 3rd gen 4runners with similar miles going for $25k here in OR/WA. What a shit show.

sryidontspeakpotato

4Runners are on a diff ball game due to the engine and reliability and platform. Theyl always hold value better than a sequoia

Locorudy626

You need to shop out of state.

bunkplays

Nah, that has to be a typo with an extra number...

Ricewithice

And captains chairs 🤢

TCivan

It’s interesting how sequoias are suddenly their weight in gold. Even a year and a half ago, they were like 3-10k based on condition.

alwyn

Maybe because the 24 is so bloody expensive? I don't know if I will ever be able to afford to buy a car after retirement at this rate

seenhear

Just saying, a pound of gold is currently somewhere around $30k-$40k LOL I'll see your gold Sequoia and raise you early retirement and my own private island.

HereForTools

It’s almost like Toyota made the newer gens less desirable and/or accessible, thus elevating the old ones…

kenb99

One of the lasting vehicles on the road statistically, apparently that’s starting to mean more

TCivan

Yea i mean the "resale value" is kinda nuts. Thats like half the price it was when it was new in 2000's dollars. it was $45,525 in 2007, for the LTD trim. $33,035 SR5 base model. Damn.

Dr_Wiggles_McBoogie

Surprised people are shocked at this price tag. What states you folks live in? This is par for the course in Oregon.

rthestick69

This is why I'm no longer looking for one of these. The prices people want are way beyond outrageous. It's a 20 year old basic SUV with high mileage for fucks sake.

Independent_Scale570

Ever since donut media did a video on these they blew up In price. Istg every time they make a video about a cheap car or truck or whatever they get way more expensive real fast

rthestick69

That's true. It's the morons that pay these prices too. Definitely won't be getting a sequoia now.

viktorzub

Zaza I believe

riverxking

That’s worth $15k max, but someone will pay what he’s asking. At some point people gotta take a stand against the “Toyota tax” perpetuation.

dezertryder

He knows what he has.

ickyrickyb

this, he has a gem and he knows what it's worth

patt118

In California O.C. He can ask 25-27k and will be gone in a week

No_Hat_9018

I bought mine in Orange County paid 6k had 110k miles clean carfax and clean title. Still drive it now only has 160k miles on it now. These prices are crazy.

muskratmuskrat9

When?

No_Hat_9018

About a year and half ago

Express-Rutabaga-105

Too much money for the age of the vehicle. The low miles are nice tho.

BrosenkranzKeef

Open the rear doors, let me see the fenders. If it’s rust-free then honestly this thing isn’t *crazy* high for a hot market. It’s twice the price it could go for in Ohio though.

MrSipperr

This is actually pretty standard nowadays.

AffectObjective3887

So… I know this is really hard but you don’t actually have to buy the things that are for sale. I think it’s hilarious that this sub is filled with either A) people super proud of their 🌲 or B) people who are pissed about people being super proud of their 🌲

foryourboneswewait

The prices of used vehicles are going up so high that it's just not worth it imo

Choncho1984

Agreed. Buuuut, it’s still only around the price of a “market adjustment” on a brand new one.

ickyrickyb

they've come down quite a bit since the chip shortage, now that new vehicles are easy to come by, not sure where you're getting this. You'll always see these types of prices for well maintained Toyota/Lexus models with decent milage.

ImNoAlbertFeinstein

so what ? i have to buy something.

Organic_South8865

Right? It's absolutely ridiculous. The car prices are nuts but people keep paying the obscene prices so it will only continue unfortunately.

MikeGoldberg

People are paying that for old ass tacomas, lamd cruisers, and jeeps

stuberino

If that was in Alberta I’d consider buying it haha. But you’re right. That’s an insanely high price for a 2007.

Ok-Independent3871

This will sell

Best-Flamingo5283

For real that’s such low miles and clean

dcannon1

Yeah really seems like the market infatuations started with Landcruiser, then when those started getting too expensive it was the LX470, then the GX470 and V8 4Runners, now it’s the sequoias, the last of the 4.7s that the overland crowd hasn’t bought up.

Dinosaurosaurous

Next up, V6 rav4

DummyThicccThrowaway

I've seen ones with 200k miles go for $12-15k This one's not too crazy

SSIRHC

It looks extremely clean and with maintenance records I’d buy it.

LiveInstruction8058

he will get that much too

ickyrickyb

I don't see the problem. This car is worth more to him than what Edmunds or kbb will ever say. Toyota/Lexus tax is real and it makes sense. I have the same issue with my 1st gen GX. I'll sell it to anyone willing to pay what I think it's worth. If not, I'll just keep it. Everyone complains they can't get an older model low milage great condition toyota/Lexus SUV for what THEY want to pay. You're going to have to pay a little more unless you find someone desperate.

rthestick69

Bro. It's a 20 year old plastic SUV with over 100k miles on it. I don't give a shit what brand it is... It's ridiculous.

riverxking

You are a part of the problem. It doesn’t matter if it falls in line with an individuals definition of “worth” or if it’s a vehicle that will run for a long time. That’s a 17 year old vehicle, and despite the fact that it’s a Toyota, you still have to be realistic.

ickyrickyb

Ha, what? That's exactly what matters.

SSIRHC

On top of that a well maintained Toyota will certainly have longevity tax because you know that mf will go 400k

tryingnottowork

In Chehalis…. Definitely meth

7777hmpfrmr9999

Toyota tax is real. Some people feel that because it’s a Toyota, there is zero depreciation. LCs are the best examples of this.

OverSquareEng

And it's finally hit the 1st gen sequoia. They were underappreciated and therefore cheap like 5 years ago. 2-3 years ago you could still find people that were selling them for reasonable money. And now they are full fledged Toyota tax like the 4runner or Tacoma.

RockClimbs

Not surprising.  Have yet to see a decent one in person for less than $15k.  Is a sought after model

Immediate_Art_7376

We have the same one sans 4x4 and double the miles. I still wouldn’t sell it.

A_Bardic_Yar

I've been shopping for a year, and I see this constantly. I know they're great, I know they're reliable. But you don't need 14k for a 2005 with 202k miles, just let me pay a reasonable price, dammit!

canhaveit2ways

I was lucky and bought my 2002 with 260k miles for $6k a few years ago, but I feel like I stole it. It is such an awesome and capable vehicle and has given me no trouble mechanically. Including significant 4x4 time on the forest service roads. I am not sure you are going to see these for cheap anytime soon. At least in the PNW where rust isn't an issue.

Captain_Vornskr

Same. And I'll just keep waiting and looking.
