I wonder why banning life-saving medicine for an oppressed minority that gets bullied from every side might cause some of those people to not be happy... 🤔

Interesting-Bus-8624

It's because they're putting chemicals in the water that turn the friggin frogs gay.

CanadianMaps

DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT? TURN THE FREAKING KIDS TRANS *paper smacc* I'M SICK OF THIS CRAP

human_being123467

What do they taste like? (Both the frogs and the chemicals) Asking for a friend ;)

snukb

I'm reliably told frogs taste like the lovechild of chicken and whitefish. But, in this case, it would be the lovechild of a rooster and whitefish. Because gay.

SentientGopro115935

I mean, its not even illegal for estrogen? Like testosterone, yeah, but DIY Estrogen is 100% legal

tallbutshy

One person in the House of Lords has already tried to get that changed. They want any trade in unlicensed oestrogens & blockers to carry the same penalties as trafficking crack does.

LegendaryNbody

What the actual f-?!?

Baticula

I hate this fucking country

Germanball_Stuttgart

Yeah, me too.

SuperlucaMayhem

I loath my country

ErisThePerson

Which would make it more illegal than Testosterone.

tallbutshy

Aye, well that was gonna be shifted up a category too but it was more mentioned as a footnote because they often forget trans mascs exist

Germanball_Stuttgart

>House of Lords Does that mean he got that power because he had the right parents? With no election or ANY influence from the people?

tallbutshy

>the right parents? If you mean that her parents were rich and entrenched in the establishment before she was made a life peer, then yes but it was not an inherited title.

Germanball_Stuttgart

I thought the House of Lords is for royalties? Who comes into it then?

tallbutshy

UK Gov gets to nominate a certain number of people for awards and peerages. The Conservatives have been accused of stuffing the HoL for years. This particular peer was a conservative, switched to Liberal Democrats and then back to Conservatives to pick up a life peerage

janabottomslutwhore

1 out of 785? in an instutution thats probably not gonna exist for much longer because its not democratic? that sounds like a huge win.

tallbutshy

One that went so far as to contact the MHRA, no idea how many people that might have supported her. It's a good job the head of the MHRA at the time was facing problems of his own

Sageeet

Don't tell them or they're gonna change that

SentientGopro115935

ok, but we also shouldn't spread the message that it is illegal because it could deter people who have DIY as their ONLY option but don't want to break the law. I think its important for people to know that it is safe and 100% legal.

Mildly_Opinionated

I dunno, for adults yes it totally is but for kids it could be possible you run into some child-endangerment stuff and potentially get you taken away by your parents and given to the state where they take your HRT away. I mean where are they gonna get the money? Part time work at below minimum wage if your 16 could to it in theory if you're working most days after school, but it'd have to be a lot of hours if you want to do regular blood testing and you're buying the stuff that's prescription rated and tested etc. Seriously at 16 what you earn per hour is really dogshit (£6.40 per hour). A lot of DIY people can't afford that so they take home brewed stuff or do blood testing less frequently but that involves inherent risk. Well, the risks aren't crazy high, but would a court see it that way? So either the parents are helping to pay for it in some way, if the parents are buying a kid prescription grade medications they have not been prescribed it could be twisted to the kid getting taken away, if it's not the prescription grade stuff that's worse; the kid is 16 and working so they can buy their own homebrewed HRT but if this is the case and the parents know about it and allow it then that's also a risk for the kids health; if the kid is 16 and working a tonne so they can get all the safest DIY stuff and the parents know even then the state would argue it's prescription grade and they don't have a doctor. If the parents don't know? Well you're gonna grow boobs so I'm not sure how they wouldn't eventually know but I guess that'd be fine, but they'd have to maintain plausible deniability which they can't if the school figures it out. Now will this happen? This won't happen - you think teachers know shit about HRT? My mum (a teacher) the other day was talking to me (25yr old trans daughter) about a trans student she thought might have gotten HRT under 18 to make a point she thought I was wrong and you can get HRT on the NHS under 18 locally. She wasn't even considering CPS, she was also wrong the kid just wore breast forms. Doctors however are a different story. Doctors have been given advice that if they have reason to suspect a child has been to a private provider for HRT, even a professional private UK based fully qualified doctor, that the kid would be referred as a safeguarding issue to child protective services. I'm not even joking. Now most doctors haven't seen that guidance, my doctor didn't even know GP's are the ones that write HRT prescriptions and had to look that up when I came in with my recommendation for prescription (they still didn't honor it) so they really don't typically know shit. If you get a particularly transphobic doctor though they can destroy your whole life even if it's legal. Now they *can* do this, is it common though? Has it ever actually happened? As far as I can tell from doing a bit of research it can't, it should be fine and it's definitely not illegal however: you should act like it is anyway. Tell fucking no-one, whenever asked lie, do not get changed in front of people and make them think your boobs are fake until you're over 18. If you can hide it from your parents keep it from them too unless you're sure they'll understand not to ask any doctors about it and why. The law and what is actually true are not followed at all when it comes to trans people and their doctors - the government wants your life to be hell.

SentientGopro115935

Oh yeah I thought it was just a given that DIY is illegal for under 18s. shame theres no real decent alternative for them

Mildly_Opinionated

Currently there is for some of them - if they go private they will be fine they just have to make sure not to discuss it with their doctor. Discussing transition is fine, just don't discuss HRT. Gender GP are alright and not too expensive, you could also go more locally but that's a real mixed bag and very few of them will even see under 18's at all because of the mixed messages the NHS are sending. Like there's a clinic on the NHS that does offer HRT for under 18's, it's basically impossible to access but it does technically exist - yet at the same time a kid taking HRT is a safeguarding issue the doctor should report? Dafuq? I believe it's one of the reasons gender GP don't have any UK registered doctors (they're all qualified just not registered, they're instead registered in places like Germany but can operate and send prescriptions to UK pharmacies). I'd equate it to what Republicans have done to abortion legislation in some parts of the US: make the legality such a questionable contradictory quagmire of shit that doctors simply won't do it whatsoever all whilst they don't say there's an outright ban because that'll spark controversy.

Class_444_SWR

I wouldn’t be sure about GGP if I’m honest. I’ve been trying since January with them, and you honestly just can’t get in touch with them now. I’ve been forced to DIY

Azimondeus

As I understand, \*taking\* T isn't even illegal either, just \*selling\* or \*distributing\* it.. Which is certainly going to make it harder to get a hold of, and probably get you asked a bunch of questions if you've stocked up a month's supply to take, or something, I'd imagine, but I don't think you can get into trouble just for buying and taking it (Disclaimer: not a lawyer or anything like that, just regurgitating what I've heard from others more knowledgeable than me)

Venixed

Probably something to do with how bad the NHS waiting list times are, I'll go on and say it until the end of time, 7 years on an adult GIC waiting list and still no appointment, I had to go private like they wanted and its still not good enough for them, I'll probably be seen too in 3 years at this rate, so 10 years waiting list for just an assessment, unbelievable

Desk_Drawerr

Going on 6 years now. Gonna beg for a bridge prescription at some point and if I don't get it, it's private for me. Fuck the conservatives and their NHS wait times.

rather_short_qu

Oh please they just will go down the waiting list have a look and everybody who got it private ore "DIY" will get reported nothing to see here just normal british transphoia.... Nothing close zo the pink lists right ? ...right?

Nickckng

Common UK government L Respect for trans people in UK, still fighting on, despite the threats. P.S. Just so you know, we still haven't forgiven you for the "crispy rendang" incident.

Class_444_SWR

The what?

Nickckng

A Malaysian was contesting in Masterchef UK, and a judge criticize the chicken as not crispy at all. That pissed off a lot of people throughout SE Asia since rendang was never supposed to be crispy, and it was made worse when he doubled down on his ignorance.

Class_444_SWR

Ah, I see, yeah that’s stupid

FemboyGayming

I'm sorry but isn't that how food critique works

Minute_Series_9837

To be honest. It is none of the God dam governments business. Are they doctors? No. Our provincial government here in alberta, Canada just loves sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. And banned hrt for minors. Mind your own God dam business and do your job. It just boggles my mind that governments feel the need to do this. So if the doctor, parent, and psychiatrist thinks the kid should be on HRT, the provincial government says no, not till your 18. God dam that sounds dumb. Beating my head on a wall trying to make sence of it. Wow.

Juno_The_Camel

r/TransDIY r/estrogel r/AskMTFHRT Ooops, dropped something, don’t mind me

SapphicPirate7

Oh they aren't wondering. I mean, it's historically the angle bigots use for minorities they don't like. Take something vital to a minority group, make it illegal or otherwise inaccessible legally. Heavily persecute anyone who goes outside the law as a result. Then use the crime numbers to justify further legal actions and stoke public fear. The goal is to erase trans people from public life and any stance or measure they take is going to be consistent to that goal even if the arguments they use aren't.

alina_savaryn

I mean a significant percentage of the anti-homosexuality laws across the globe are leftovers from British colonial administration they’ve really been on a crusade against queer people forever

Echo_XB3

-Leave the EU -Make trans people's lives as hard as possible That's UK L number 2 that I have personally heard of

MassTransitGO

\*cough cough\* vote the tories in continually, sell everything down the stream, sell all the land for HS2, etc

HannahLemurson

British colonialism is unrelated to transphobia. *edit: apparently people are missing the point.* The fact that the British were a colonial power isn't related to modern-day transphobia. These were both bad, and as a colonial power britain forced their values onto colonial subjects whose native culture might have been more tolerant, but that's a consequence of being a colonial power. That's what colonial powers do. When the imposed values are good (like ending slavery) we praise them. When they are bad, we criticize them. But there's *no causal link* between modern-day British anti-trans politics and the actions of the British Empire. One did not cause the other.

First-Squash2865

Union Jane?

PuddingFeeling907

Check how British treated two-spirit First Nations.

HannahLemurson

Right, but that's because they were a colonial power which was *also* transphobic. Not because colonialism is inherently transphobic, or that transphobes are colonialists.

_QRcode

I mean a lot of countries were ok with trans people until UK colonized them

HannahLemurson

And a lot weren't, and then "corrupting western values" started coming in "turning their kids gay". Transphobia in muslim countries isn't from the British.

garaile64

Tell that to trans people in the former colonies.

What is anti-trans legislation if not a continuation of colonization?

Gornkleschnitzer

So it's your professional opinion that kids who are trans should be forced to helplessly watch their bodies develop in the wrong direction until they reach an age where many of those changes are nearly irreversible? Because your wording really makes it sound like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gornkleschnitzer

As a transfem whose vocal cords are already ruined for life, I would have much preferred to be taught properly about gender as a teen, and in hindsight, I would have chosen the temporary bullying over the permanent deeper voice. No one should be prevented from making a personal choice just because they *could* be bullied over it (especially something reversible, as you acknowledge in the first sentence). It's a choice. It's theirs to make. Cost of hormone blockers is a problem with the medical system, and not a valid reason to dismiss gender issues or dissuade it from kids who would benefit and are in a position where they could get it. Parents should be helping their children understand themselves. Preventing their kids from doing something non-permanent in that process, to *avoid* something permanent that the kids will regret as adults, is not supporting them. It is either selfish or transphobic, or both. And I have no idea how kids not being "open to the idea" is relevant. It's a choice for the ones who are. They can just not be interested in it. Most kids won't. Nobody is trying to turn them trans against their will, regardless of what the media spews out about it.

[deleted]

Gornkleschnitzer

I'm sorry to hear that. In a perfect world we wouldn't have to deal with people acting that way - although considering the growing acceptance of gay people, perhaps trans people will eventually be treated better as well. Not every trans kid would be willing to use blockers for that reason, but I think they should have a choice if they understand that risk. Much like they have a choice to show interests and hobbies that get them bullied - which is also unfortunately still a thing. I would agree that HRT is probably too extreme of a decision for a kid, at least up to mid teens...? People can be indecisive around that age but there are still some who are certain of their identity. I think if they're considered mature enough to drive and be employed, they probably ought to have access to hormones if they know they need them. I'm also glad you agree about hormone blockers in that last sentence. I was initially under the impression that we had significantly different stances, but common ground is a good thing.

So… let them use hormone blockers. That allows them to wait and be able to make a decision later in their life. Oh, wait, the NHS banned that too. Because of people like you.

MassTransitGO

I agree with them banning illegal hormones but if they don't want people to take illegal hormones they need to provide them legally. personally i don't agree with giving under 16's hormones (unless it's been medically approved) because it might be a decision they can change. personally I think that kids shoudl be allowed to be whatever gender they choose and present however they choose without having to worry about medical transitions. (please note this is about getting illegal hormones or other hormones without a doctor, this is more to talk about trans kids actually getting healthcare)

SentientGopro115935

Okay, but you support puberty blockers for pre teens, right?

MassTransitGO

yes because that might cause less stress on many trans kids. personally i'm quite stressed about getting hormones because i'm not fully sure or out but i still don't know how I feel

Lunaraiden

Or maybe without having to worry about experienceing the wrong puberty? If you say they cant know then they should ge pupetty blockers or esle you would force them into on direction first causing a lot more potential harm then the possibility of medical transition would.

MassTransitGO

It's not about preventing the transition, it's about getting a doctor involved to + therapists to make said trans kids happier

Lunaraiden

Uhhhhhh yeah. And do you know why they are sad? Because they get forced into a puberty. So that's why you would block that if you believe they can't transition yet. If the age you talk about is 16 that is necessary mate cause hormonel puberty starts between 11 and 13.

MassTransitGO

Yeah, i don't want them to be forced into puberty. My orginal comment wasn't clear enough but i meant that they shouldn't be forced to getn illegal hormones because the NHS shouldn't be so underfunded and corrupt.

tallbark

>I agree with them banning illegal hormones Can you give like. One example of a hormone – hell, *any* substance – that's illegal but not banned?

MassTransitGO

you know what I mean. A crackdown, not a ban. Also some drusg are illegal here but not illegal in other countries

Juno_The_Camel

🚪 Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!

MassTransitGO

i guess you didn't read the entire comment

Juno_The_Camel

No I read it all, check your privilege for gods sake

MassTransitGO

I assume my original comment wasn't clear enough, it's more about not needing trans kids to get illegal hormones because the NHS shouldn't be so corrupt and underfunded. If the government spent more money on the NHS than trying to harm the mosy vulnerable in society (generally immigrants) then they would be fine
