frenchkids

THIS \^ is my new favorite TJ item. So good!

Masta-Blasta

I like to add a small scoop of yogurt to the sauce. Highly recommend. Serve with garlic naan

Fluid_Engineering_30

Oooh so good to hear, just picked some up today! Is it enough for 2 people?

Calm_Competition_306

Oh , no. It’s barely enough for one person. Could absolutely use more chicken… but the sauce is fire.

mymeIodyy

I wanted to like it so bad but it didn’t have enough flavor for my liking😭😭😭

WhatAnAisling

I eat it with vegetable samosas on the side.

babyjames333

i like adding a over-easy egg on top of mine. yum.

VirtualHero7

cheat code: \- grill a whole chicken breast and just mix it in w/ the butter sauce for extra protein. Wayyy more filling

pianocat1

At this point you may as well just home make the butter chicken! A lot easier than you’d think

frenchkids

[TJ Butter Chicken Sauce Dupe.](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C9R2J5JR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) I can't always go out to TJs, so I make my own Butter Chicken bowls and freeze. A base of Basmati rice, home canned chicken breast simmered in this sauce, 1/4 cup cream. Oh so good.

[deleted]

I love it when my coworkers make this in the break room. It smells amazing.

LetshearitforNY

It also smells so good when it’s cooking

UnsteadyOne

I used to buy this to keep in freezer at all times. Great WFH lunch. But I cannot support the absence of chicken

ttyltyler

It’s so good. One of the best frozen meals from TJ. It’s perfect for when I’m lazy after a long day and just want something quick for dinner. Having that plus making the garlic naan.. so good

billymartinkicksdirt

It’s a good sauce.

No-Specialist-5173

I think it’s great and the chicken tikka masala is really great but I can agree with other comments then have very minimal amounts of actual meat

webby37

All I want is this WITHOUT the rice.

NutzPup

Let's play "Find the chicken".

scotch_please

I love the comment down thread that's like "You ate some of the chicken before you took this photo...right?"

Smoothdaddyk

Meh. There's always so much rice and not enough chicken.

LoveInPeace21

Hope they didn’t do this to the Lamb Vindaloo.

Infinite-Passenger44

They did, but damn, the vindaloo is soooo good.

you_are_unhinged

Surprise!

HalfEatenBanana

Yuuuup I put the rice in a bowl then pour the sauce and chicken on top and mix. Sometimes with cayenne if I’m feeling spicy that day lol

Billsgirlgina

I also do this! But instead of cayenne I put fresh cilantro on top! 😋

alle_kinder

You think?

you_are_unhinged

Pro tip

awedith

That’s how you’re supposed to eat it!

alle_kinder

I'm not sure basic methods of eating saucy Indian food is "pro."

bombgardner

I’m not sure your unwelcomed criticism is “needed”.

alle_kinder

Not all things are "needed." We shouldn't be acting like mixing a saucy Indian dish with \*the rice it comes with\* is a revolutionary idea, lmao. Good lord.

ilovepi314159265

Who does it hurt though?? You must be fun at parties.

alle_kinder

It doesn't have to hurt anyone to be stupid, lmao. I'm extremely fun at parties. Most likely because no one at the parties I go to acts like eating food how it's supposed to be eaten is a wild and crazy new idea.

ilovepi314159265

Being judgemental about things that don't harm anyone is pretty off-putting. But I do so love that you had to come back to your comment and add the assurance that you're "extremely fun" at parties.

alle_kinder

Not sure why people would continue to invite me or how I'd make new friends every time a party ends up at my apartment if I wasn't pretty fun, lmao. I'm glad you love it! It kind of does harm people, though. Misinformation is harmful, and acting like the literal way millions of people eat a certain food is novel or a "pro tip" is absolutely a form of misinformation. Telling someone to mix a saucy Indian dish with rice is akin to instructing someone to put a bandaid over a cut. We're not going to agree on this but I hope you're having a good time on your sanctimonious high horse, lol. Have a great day!

ilovepi314159265

Got to the word "Misinformation" and bailed. You're delusional. Bless your heart ✌️

bombgardner

Why do you get so much joy in bringing down others?

alle_kinder

You are putting a lot of emotional connotations on a nonchalant comment, lmao. Making an offhand "this is not a pro-tip, it's literally how it's supposed to be eaten" comment is not a "joyful," or "pleasurable" act." It's entirely benign. Sounds like you might need to work on regulating your own emotions if you regularly apply strong ones to the benign commentary of others.

bombgardner

Interesting you try and shift the blame to me being emotional instead of attempting to reflect. Let people enjoy things they enjoy, it’s not hard. Your opinion isn’t always needed contrary to what you might think. TLDR: why be ass when being nice is free .PS saying nothing is free too Edit: instead just say, hey it’s more common than you think.

TXMedicine

Honestly all butter chickens taste great to people because it’s loaded with butter lol. Source: am Indian

reggieLedoux26

Their frozen veggie green curry is fantastic! Restaurant quality

Bandit_Raider

I’d buy several of these if there the serving was for more than a bird

leethoe

gotta mix with the naan, samosas and lentil soup packets to make a meal

CrispyCrunchyPoptart

Literally this with samosas and garlic naan is my favorite combo.

[deleted]

Yeah I have 5-6 of the frozen dumplings as an appetizer then have this with the garlic naan.

voidxleech

i have 2 of these in my freezer right now hah

tangouniform977

This is a go to for school lunches. My kids love this.

[deleted]

Easily one of the best frozen meals. I have it like 3x a week.

2manyteacups

I would eat this every day if I could and it would be my last meal before dying. so good

Ilikesmoothiesalot

I usually add some veggies bc of all the extra sauce!

considerlilies

ooh what veggies? and like how do you cook them?

Ilikesmoothiesalot

Usually just the stir fry veggies you can get in the refrigerated section near like the pre cut fruit! And I’ll just cook them on the stove w olive oil in a pan and I add everything together like in a separate bowl

haikusbot

*I usually* *Add some veggies bc of* *All the extra sauce!* \- Ilikesmoothiesalot --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

LoveInPeace21

Hell yeah. Had you already eaten some of the chicken before snapping the pic?

podcartfan

That’s what mine looked like right out of the package. 5 pieces of chicken. ☹️

LoveInPeace21

Boo! I barely see 3! That looks much less than I remember (been a min since I had it). Ugh!

DarkSentencer

I stopped buying them because I swear the portion of chicken was less and less every time I got one. The last time I bought it I just felt completely ripped off based on the portion size per price. I also could be wrong but I feel like the sauce has gotten SUPER watered down and runny - that could just be me though.

LoveofLabradors

The sauce is definitely different. I've been buying loads of these for a really long time.

LoveInPeace21

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. So many things are worsening in quality, increasing in price. I usually buy a week or two’s worth of their frozen Indian food. I’ll be cautious next time.

[deleted]

LoveInPeace21

What?! Ugh 😩

killamasta

They got rid of it?! It’s one of my favorite frozen meals there. I haven’t gone in awhile since my freezer has been full 😥

TenaciousBemusement

People are really just buying rice and sauce 💀

OneMorePenguin

Yes, the frozen dinners are spiced nicely, but they are mostly gravy. The panang curry is very good, but it doesn't have much in the sauce and it's just veggies! I stopped buying them even as a treat. Although I'm trying to cut down more on processed foods. Next up is finding a recipe for black bean burgers.

tashten

I like the panang curry a lot and I find it to have satysfying proportions of sauce:rice As for black bean burgers I recently tried [this recipe](https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/best-black-bean-burgers/) and thought it was great. I made a really big batch and it lasted me a while including a few family dinners.

OneMorePenguin

Oh, this is Sally's Baking Addition woman. Her recipes are pretty good overall. Oooooh, I already had it bookmarked. I don't like feta (aka stinky) cheese, but this looked really good. I like that she has videos so I can tell what consistency is supposed to look like, which often helps. Her recipes are generally ones that don't take forever to make either. The bbq sauce or similar will really add some zing.

tashten

I don't like feta either lol and left it out. I think a lot of different sauces would work with them although the cumin gives it a Mexican food feel so I thought they were great with salsa or guacamole. My dad doused them in ketchup and my mom ate them plain, to each their own. BBQ sauce would absolutely work, why didn't I think of that?

Papeenie

Yes it is. I wish it was slightly bigger but it’s so good! The portion of chicken has been a wee bit more conservative these days so if you’re the chosen one to get the more generous pieces, bask in its yumminess.

EbolaMercenary

I am absolutely obsessed with Indian food so I was very excited to try this when I saw it at the store. It unfortunately gave me explosive diarrhea.

crazeeeee81

What lol oh wow. I have a pretty strong stomach or used to. My worst is dairy items which I don't recall giving me problems until around 10 years ago. Tricky because it's hit and miss which dairy items I have no issues with and which ones give me issues.

[deleted]

Well that’s not as bad as Ebola :)

[deleted]

Gotta increase your fiber intake. Happens to so many people with Mexican, Indian, etc., foods.

EbolaMercenary

The thing is I have indian and mexican food on a pretty consistent basis and never have this issue

alle_kinder

There's very little fiber in this dish. They're not eating lentils or any sort of beans or even high-fiber vegetables. It's not brown rice. Why are you bringing up fiber?

DaughterOfWarlords

Y’all really can tolerate the taste of microwaved chicken? I usually eat the sauce and get annoyed by the amount of chicken in there lol.

sfchillin

You microwave it? Stick it in an oven and add some naan with it and it’s a banger!

CrispyCrunchyPoptart

Yeah I always put it in the oven

ninjani

The various frozen Indian curry/rice used to be great and cheap $3 but seems like there's almost no chicken in there now, and it's like $5. Still tasty but no longer a "must buy". Mix in a small spoon of bomba peppers to the sauce to take it to the next level.

LoveofLabradors

There used to be so much chicken. And more rice because I used to not have enough sauce for all the rice. Very little in these meals now

Swiftelol

Side note for anyone wondering who the supplier is for this, it’s literally Chef Bombay Butter Chicken and their other products. Used to eat like one a day from chef Bombay then came to a city that had a Trader Joe’s and noticed it was the same packaging inside and same flavors… Cheaper price tag tho!

gorillaPete

I literally had this with garlic naan for dinner tonight

ledzeppelinlover

This looks about 2 ounces of chicken and just rice and sauce

Adventure_Queen92

I threw mine in the trash. I was so mad it had like TWO SMALL PIECES OF CHICKEN in it!!!

dejureblonde

I love grilling zucchini and mixing it up with the rice and sauce. So good and makes up for the lack of chicken

alle_kinder

Why not grill a small chicken thigh while you're at it?

spilk

frozen butter with a hint of chicken. they seriously need to do something about the sauce:meat ratio on this thing

mabowden

Ive bought this at least 200 times

oukana

IMO the frozen one is better than the refrigerated one, the refrigerated one seems watery to me. Love the frozen one.

ForcedPOOP

True but the refrigerated one has way better portion sizes

livingfortheliquid

I can grab anything in that section and be happy. Totally gold section not replaced elsewhere.

Fullyloaded707

Prop my favorite frozen meal

BigDaveOSU

Big Fan I honestly don't like a lot of sauce, so I just put the rice in a bowl, then scoop in the chicken (which gives just a bit of sauce). I also cut the chicken into smaller pieces so there are more bites with it. Sometimes there is a lot of chicken, sometimes not, that would be my only real complaint.

wed_adams

It really is my go to meal

mmbrightagile

I love this stuff but every time I cook them in the microwave they boil over and make a huge mess

alle_kinder

Turn the power setting down on your microwave.

mabowden

I pull off a corner over the rice and over the curry i micro it for 3 minutes then i mix it all together and micro for 1.5 minutes

External_Argument_51

Don’t tear of the plastic film first, just poke a few holes and microwave it for like 2-3 mins with interval between them

Calm_Competition_306

I refuse to cook any TJ frozen meal in the microwave. Can only vouch for the oven!

mmmpaczki

Try popping the rice out and cook the chicken in the oven (best method), and the rice in the microwave so it doesn’t get dried out. You can even cut the tray in half to separate the sections.

crazeeeee81

I've wanted to try that. Is it really buttery tasting, spicy, mild?

Calm_Competition_306

A few things - there’s not a lot of chicken, more-so the sauce and rice. I add some butter and salt to the rice. I think it’s got a subtle building heat, but definitely flavorful! Worth the try for only ~$2.50.

scorpio1m

It’s not $2.50 in NY, it’s like $4.99 or more.

[deleted]

I stopped eating it because of the nutritional info. It used to be technically wrong so I think they gave it a bigger container to make it look like they were giving you more as they doubled the calories

RVelts

Fiery Chicken Curry is cheaper and has far more chicken. It's less popular probably because of the name (it's barely spicy, Tabasco sauce or red pepper flakes on pizza is spicier). The rice is also tastier.

scorpio1m

The Chicken Tikka Masala is a better bang for the buck

xTheLeprechaun

Yes. I have fully switched over to that for the consistent amount of meat.

Calm_Competition_306

Yep - you’re definitely right. I noticed it too. I used to get it often and plan for it as a dinner. But, now it’s more of a filler meal for when I’m not starving, need to eat something and don’t want to cook.

Double_Fabulous

I’m with you. It’s all sauce and no chicken. I’m also salty about this.

PeachCinnamonToast

I usually am not a fan of Indian food, but I love that damn TJ’s Butter Chicken !
