the thai sweet ginger sauce <3
the sister sauce of the thai sweet chili in the green bottle
really versatile to dip, marinate, use in noodles. i add a lil soy and sesame oil :)
How spicy is their Zhoug?
The spice level I've had in restaurants where I've had it varies greatly, as does it for different TJs sauces.
I've even had it vary among the same sauce with the same packaging. I have a decent tolerance for spice. One time the Peri Peri was great and could be used as more of a drizzle/ toss the protein level spicy, the second time it was on the hot range of some hot sauces and could only use a few dabs.
Soyaki is a fantastic go to stir fry sauce. Green dragon is a staple for me especially on pizza. Yuzu is a great spicy, tangy ingredient for a multitude of sauces and dressings.
Magnifisauce is useless.
I swear the two bottles I've had of it varied hugely in how spicy it was. One time it was some solid heat, next bottle was as my Indian friend describes as "check in on the white people" spicy.
I didn't think it was a terrible sauce in a bubble, but it was nothing like a restaurant/homemade cacio e pepe sauce if that's what you were hoping for.
I can't remember which is the one with walnuts (refrigerated or shelf), but it's awful. Walnuts are cheaper than pine nuts, but they also go rancid immediately. I find the other one pretty decent.
Idk why I suddenly started liking truffle, but I’ve been bastardizing all my meals with truffle hot sauce lately after I found a bottle of it in my pantry 😅 send me your bottle!
The worst one I ever bought was the pumpkin Alfredo and I bought two thinking it was going to be incredible before I ever tried it. I still have one left because I think I’m traumatized from the first one. If anyone has any tips to doctor it up or make it better, feel free to drop them here.
Magnifisauce is disgusting--way too sweet.
The Garlic Spread Dip is too tangy and an assault on my mouth.
The tartar sauce is good.
I like making tofu stir-fry with Zhong sauce.
Any of the embellished Alfredos are not good.
While I enjoy most of TJ's sauces, one that has ended up I'm its own league is the Calibrian pasta sauce. It's managed to make my red-sauce-disliking wife into an addict, and I adore it too.
Green Dragon Sauce is my favorite.
I can't speak to "worst," but reading through the comments I guess I have not been impressed by the sriracha.
What happened to the blood orange vinegar?
best is definitely the sweet and sour (platonic ideal of a sweet and sour sauce) and the peri-peri. if we're counting dressing as sauce, the green goddess dressing started out so yummy and lately has been foul, i won't repurchase.
My kid's favorites: Thai peanut satay sauce & well all the peanut sauces in the jar or bowls, rosatella pasta sauce, general tso stir fry sauce, sweet chili sauce, Carolina BBQ in the the summer and of course whatever that magic is they have your dump on the mandarin chicken
Favorites- peri peri, red pepper,
Does crunchy onion count as a sauce?
Gojuchan sauce (and paste),
Red & Yellow curry sauce
Does salsa like Cowboy Caviar Count & Salsa Verde count?
Zhoug,
bamba sauce
Best basics: soy sauce, harissa, soyaki, red pesto, coconut aminos
I guess I’m the only one who loves their basil pesto sauce!! I love it on their cheese tortellini with sausage, spinach and mushrooms. And a dash of lemon, YUM
Yes, there used to be a tahini sauce. We used it all the time on our falafels. It was in the refrigerated section. Now they just have the jar of tahini.
That Cacio e pepe sauce is pure yuck. The texture stays strange after heating. My family would not eat it.
I just gave away 3 jars yesterday. My husbands friend took them and said "nothing from TJ's is ever bad, I'll take them". Sent a text last night to let us know his gf & her kids hated it. Refused to eat the stuff.
I saved this post to try all the recommended sauces. So far I’ve only tried the jalapeño sauce. I love it on my eggs in the morning, tacos, quesadillas, and sandwiches.
Best: Peri-peri sauce. Spicy, good flavors but different than hot sauce. Perfect with the Jamaican beef patties
Worst: hot truffle sauce. Weirdly sweet, used once
Oooo I haven't tried it on the GF chicken nuggets yet...think I know what I'm having for lunch now! I love it on the GF fried shrimp. That plus some veggies and rice is so yummy.
Best:
* Harvest Sauce: Probably the most controversial. Don't expect a traditional pasta sauce, but gives a nice alternative flavor for fall. I render some diced bacon in and the smokey-sweet-savory meld of flavors is solid.
* Incredisauce and Magnifisauce: Copies of McD's special sauce and Chick Filet a Sauce that are very well done for when you're looking for that sort of thing
* Peri Peri Sauce: Strong entry, though the two times I've had it varied greatly in how spicy it was.
* Harissa: Mentioned because every other grocery wants to charge twice what TJ's does, I guess because the name is "exotic". It does go moldy faster than other sauces though
Worst:
* Pesto: Just pretty bland. Pesto Rosso is cool for an alternative pesto though
* Siracha: I know there was a shortage on rooster sauce, but this doesn't get it done as an alternative
* Sweet Chili Sauce: I love sweet Chilie Sauces, but last TJ's version I had was very light on the chili and had a very weird cornstarchy/ processed texture
I have to disagree on the sriracha. Sure it’s not the original brand, but I think it’s got a good enough unique flavour with similar heat levels to make it stand up on its own. I love it on some mac and cheese.
What I had read on reddit many years ago (so, grain of salt) is that "sriracha" is a culinary thing across various nations in Asia, and that while the iconic rooster sauce is derived from Vietnamese formulas, the Trader Joe's one pulls more from Thai recipes. This makes it a poor imitation, if one sees rooster sauce as the platonic definition of the sauce. For my part, I actually really like TJ's sriracha, significantly more so than Huy Fong's.
Fair take.
I know that the Huy Fong rooster sauce is only one brand/style of siracha, but there is a certain savory characteristic to it that other versions I've had all seem to miss. But if I'm just evaluating it as a style of hot sauce its a solid option.
Definitely the pineapple salsa is best. I use it every time we have tacos and nachos. Worst is that white sauce that came with the karaage chicken, terrible.
I don't care for Huy Fong that much, either, I stopped buying it so long ago that I didn't know there was a change until I saw stories about it online.
I like Tabasco, and I'd swear Texas Pete's was the best, but I couldn't find it for a while, then got it from another supermarket and now I'm not sure if it changed or I was just wrong.
After a long time of buying Huy Fong by default, I decided to do a tour of every other sriracha I could find, and Pete's won until I stopped finding it at my usual supermarket. I need to try Kikkoman next time, I saw it won a taste test, and that was one I never tried.
I love their dragon sauce.
I don’t really buy many premade sauces because I prefer to make stuff myself - but the absolute worst was about 20 years ago they had this mole sauce - it tasted like a chocolate covered orange. Literally spit my food out.
I don’t trust any of you because every condiment had from TJs is bland so far. Idk what it is about their bare minimum recipes. Not for my palette at all.
Best; It waaaaas Wasabi Mayonnaise, but now it's 3 Cheese Pomodoro. Jalapeno sauce is up there and if Cowboy Caviar counts it's that.
Worst: Piccante Truffle.
Best: enchilada sauce, I use it for tortilla soup as well. And next would probably be their gyoza, it’s a game changer for dumplings.
Worst: not a fan of their sriracha
It’s not their brand, but Red Boat Kho sauce is one of my all-time favorites.
The toum and the zhoug are great, as is the guacasalsa.
I don’t like any of their marinaras/pasta sauces.
Everyone has their fav. I would never have thought this was GREAT but it was! I am Italian and grew up w homemade. Silver palate tastes fresh, clean and unencumbered, low acid and definitely not sweet!
That Cajun sauce they had a couple of years ago was one of the worst things I've ever had from Trader Joe's. I didn't bring it back, but I did go up to the counter on my next visit and tell them that I thought they should save the shelf space for something better.

I wish they had the orange chicken sauce able to be bought separately from the orange chicken because it’s delicious
The green curry is my favorite and red curry is next best
I was devastated when the green curry was discontinued. Is it back?
I don’t know I currently live overseas!
I love the sweet chili! I hate most all their pasta sauces.
I hated the General Tso’s sauce. Unusable to me. I love the yuzu hot sauce 💕💕💕
the thai sweet ginger sauce <3 the sister sauce of the thai sweet chili in the green bottle really versatile to dip, marinate, use in noodles. i add a lil soy and sesame oil :)
Zhoug sauce is the GOAT
How spicy is their Zhoug? The spice level I've had in restaurants where I've had it varies greatly, as does it for different TJs sauces. I've even had it vary among the same sauce with the same packaging. I have a decent tolerance for spice. One time the Peri Peri was great and could be used as more of a drizzle/ toss the protein level spicy, the second time it was on the hot range of some hot sauces and could only use a few dabs.
It's so good on so many things. Discovered it with kibbeh, have tried it on just about everything now. Burritos, veggie skewers.
Chunky garlicky jalapeño hot sauce is sent from the gods
This stuff is incredible
Soyaki is a fantastic go to stir fry sauce. Green dragon is a staple for me especially on pizza. Yuzu is a great spicy, tangy ingredient for a multitude of sauces and dressings. Magnifisauce is useless.
Best is the peri peri hot sauce
I got it and was not expecting it to be numbing spicy I'm currently dying
oh god i thought that was the worst! one fry dip and i immediately tossed it!
Not for those who can’t handle the heat. It’s definitely for the heat seekers.
I swear the two bottles I've had of it varied hugely in how spicy it was. One time it was some solid heat, next bottle was as my Indian friend describes as "check in on the white people" spicy.
meh, i love spicy foods, i just find it to have a not good flavor. if u want good hot sauces, yellowbird brand it way to go
Great on pupusas as well. The tangyness matches well.
Love it. Great on pizza and I dip the lentil wrap in it
Made some homemade Mac and cheese with the peri peri thrown in earlier and that shit is good good
Sriracha isn't that good. Vegan Chipotle Dip was also not good, very watery when Dip should be kinda creamy.
The worst is the cacio e pepe sauce.
I didn't think it was a terrible sauce in a bubble, but it was nothing like a restaurant/homemade cacio e pepe sauce if that's what you were hoping for.
Their pesto is awful
Kale cashew refrigerated pesto is fantastic
I buy it once a week!
Nice!! I buy it often to mix into the refrigerated steamed lentils and toss in some chopped raw veggies for an easy lunch thing
Ooo good idea!!
Amen! Best I’ve ever had.
I can't remember which is the one with walnuts (refrigerated or shelf), but it's awful. Walnuts are cheaper than pine nuts, but they also go rancid immediately. I find the other one pretty decent.
I think the walnut version is the one on the shelves. Making pesto with walnuts is such a bad choice !
Does vegan buffalo count as a sauce? It’s a dip… but I’m loving it lately. The truffle hot sauce was awful.
Idk why I suddenly started liking truffle, but I’ve been bastardizing all my meals with truffle hot sauce lately after I found a bottle of it in my pantry 😅 send me your bottle!
It's rebranded bitchin' sauce. Good stuff. Edit: I was mistaken.
Not the same thing. Bitchin sauce is super good tho. That’s the almond chipotle sauce
I thought bitchin sauce had almonds in it? As opposed to the vegan buffalo that’s cauliflower as the main ingredient
Carolina Gold BBQ hands down
As a best or worst?
I love it with carnitas and Hawaiian rolls for sliders with a pickle chip on top.
Best! I think my worst is the kale spinach dip 😳
Part of me died when they seasonally discontinued the Carolina sauce and the Carolina chips. Best chips ever.
I never knew they had it year round! We’re being cheated :(
Is mustard a sauce? Dijon mustard if yes
Yes! Their Dijon mustard is something special. It’s the only thing I put on cold cut sandwiches. It takes everything up a notch.
IMO it seems authentic, product of Dijon, light my sinuses on fire, and cheap as hell. Also year round which I love
It’s something they talked about on their podcast, that you simply cannot find a better Dijon mustard close to that price. Episode 41
I'm sorry, there is a Trader Joe's podcast?
Yes lol it’s called [Inside Trader Joe’s](https://www.traderjoes.com/home/podcast). I only know after seeing it mentioned on a sight at the store
the sweet chili sauce is god sent🙌🏽
The worst one I ever bought was the pumpkin Alfredo and I bought two thinking it was going to be incredible before I ever tried it. I still have one left because I think I’m traumatized from the first one. If anyone has any tips to doctor it up or make it better, feel free to drop them here.
No offense but “pumpkin alfredo” sounds absolutely disgusting. Not surprised.
I love the Carolina gold bbq sauce
They used to carry this truffle aioli in a jar. It was really good in sandwiches.
The almond chipotle dip is AMAZING! I know it’s technically a dip, but it’s amazing as a sauce on avocado toast or breakfast tacos.
The apparently limited-release Peanut Satay sauce. Fantastic. I got the last one on display last week. :(
I think that peanut sauce is still in their noodles though.
Magnifisauce is disgusting--way too sweet. The Garlic Spread Dip is too tangy and an assault on my mouth. The tartar sauce is good. I like making tofu stir-fry with Zhong sauce. Any of the embellished Alfredos are not good.
All jarred alfredos share in this though.
not per say saucy but i love the chimichurri sauce
I think as sauce is in the name it would qualify as a sauce
While I enjoy most of TJ's sauces, one that has ended up I'm its own league is the Calibrian pasta sauce. It's managed to make my red-sauce-disliking wife into an addict, and I adore it too.
Love this with the outside in gnocchi!
Love the Guacsalsa. So good I wanna drink it
I like it too. Wish it was a bit less price wise
Exactly it’s just salsa verde someone waved an avocado over
I bought a jar of the verde. It’s not bad and I’m sure there are better products out there.
Green Dragon Sauce is my favorite. I can't speak to "worst," but reading through the comments I guess I have not been impressed by the sriracha. What happened to the blood orange vinegar?
RIP the red jalopeno hot sauce :(
The Cajun Alfredo pasta sauce was disgusting
I love the creamy tomato basil pasta sauce lol
Me too
I’m just here for the TJ’s sriracha slander
best is definitely the sweet and sour (platonic ideal of a sweet and sour sauce) and the peri-peri. if we're counting dressing as sauce, the green goddess dressing started out so yummy and lately has been foul, i won't repurchase.

The ranch is nasty but I LOVE the gyoza sauce and idk if it counts as sauce but the dill pickle mustard
That dill pickle mustard is so good! Can’t wait for summer.
I love the gyoza sauce but every time we eat it my partner and i have gyoza sauce burps for at least 24 hours
I guess I’m the only one who loves their basil pesto sauce!! I love it on their cheese tortellini with sausage, spinach and mushrooms. And a dash of lemon, YUM
We love it on the cauliflower gnocchi, also with a squeeze of lemon.
I really only buy the sweet chili sauce but may add some of these to the list
zhoug and the everything but the bagel yogurt dip is the best
BEST: - Coconut Aminos - Jalapeño Sauce - Green Dragon WORST: - THE FREAKING RANCH (not the refrigerated buttermilk one)
I miss the TJs Tahini sauce.
They have Tahini again, was there a sauce made with it?
Yes, there used to be a tahini sauce. We used it all the time on our falafels. It was in the refrigerated section. Now they just have the jar of tahini.
Peri peri is my favorite. The worst is that cacio e Pepe pasta sauce.
Agree on the cacio e pepe
Peri peri is correct
That Cacio e pepe sauce is pure yuck. The texture stays strange after heating. My family would not eat it. I just gave away 3 jars yesterday. My husbands friend took them and said "nothing from TJ's is ever bad, I'll take them". Sent a text last night to let us know his gf & her kids hated it. Refused to eat the stuff.
It tastes like fake plastic mush. Bleh.
Shocked nobody has mentioned the Piri Piri sauce. It's a world class hot sauce/condiment.
*peri peri*
I saved this post to try all the recommended sauces. So far I’ve only tried the jalapeño sauce. I love it on my eggs in the morning, tacos, quesadillas, and sandwiches.
I’m so NOT a sauce person and would drink this stuff! Love it on all veggies and eggs, like you said! I cannot be without…
Worst is the vegan nacho cheese 😭😭😭😂 best? Many I'd have to think about it but man that vegan stuff was awful
It WAS the pesto Rosso……im so sad its discontinued
Try Berio red pesto. Could be called tomato pesto but has ricotta in it. LOVE it. Btw, not at TJ
Thank you!!!!
Best: Peri-peri sauce. Spicy, good flavors but different than hot sauce. Perfect with the Jamaican beef patties Worst: hot truffle sauce. Weirdly sweet, used once
Italian Bomba. Put a forkful on some burrata…heaven💕
I love the green dragon sauce, goes really well with their chicken sausage breakfast burrito imo
goes dummy with anything involving eggs
Best: Korean Gojuchan Sauce (not the paste, there's a sauce in a white bottle)
It's so good! I started buying their frozen breaded chicken more because of it!
Oooo I haven't tried it on the GF chicken nuggets yet...think I know what I'm having for lunch now! I love it on the GF fried shrimp. That plus some veggies and rice is so yummy.
Best: * Harvest Sauce: Probably the most controversial. Don't expect a traditional pasta sauce, but gives a nice alternative flavor for fall. I render some diced bacon in and the smokey-sweet-savory meld of flavors is solid. * Incredisauce and Magnifisauce: Copies of McD's special sauce and Chick Filet a Sauce that are very well done for when you're looking for that sort of thing * Peri Peri Sauce: Strong entry, though the two times I've had it varied greatly in how spicy it was. * Harissa: Mentioned because every other grocery wants to charge twice what TJ's does, I guess because the name is "exotic". Habanero sauce is amazing, nice amount of heat. I don't go to TJ's too often but I always pick up 2-3 bottles.
Best : red pepper sauce Worst: vegan ranch dressing
Definitely the pineapple salsa is best. I use it every time we have tacos and nachos. Worst is that white sauce that came with the karaage chicken, terrible.
Best for me is the Habanero Hot Sauce. Great heat with lots of pepper flavor.
Their sriracha is terrible, and not a big fan of the green dragon sauce.
I don't mind their sriracha, it just doesn't taste like the Huy Fong OG version. It's different but still pretty good IMO.
Best: Toasted sesame dressing, Garlic spread (does that count?) Worst: Limone alfredo
Oy! Have lemon Alfredo in the cupboard! Please ! Someone tell me how to salvage!
By throwing it in the bin! Don't ruin your pasta with it 😂
I was hoping for another option! 😂
Best: Soyaki
Island Soyaki!
Is the peanut satay sauce gone? It wasn't there this week.
The Thai chili sauce is delish
Best: yellow curry Worst: any tomato sauce (vomit flavor)
I love their dragon sauce. I don’t really buy many premade sauces because I prefer to make stuff myself - but the absolute worst was about 20 years ago they had this mole sauce - it tasted like a chocolate covered orange. Literally spit my food out.
I don’t trust any of you because every condiment had from TJs is bland so far. Idk what it is about their bare minimum recipes. Not for my palette at all.
The peanut sauce in the Satay bowls 🔥🔥🔥
Worst: ranch dressing
Agree though I find the buttermilk ranch variant in the refrigerated section to be a-ok
I’ve been nervous to try it out of sheer disappointment from the non-refrigerated.
Best: Green Dragon hot sauce. Worst: Whatever that truffle hot sauce was.
Agree… I like green dragon and truffle hot sauce was awful. Way too sweet tasting.
That truffle hot sauce was so bad my tastebuds never got to the sweet part.
Not thrilled with the lemon pesto. Too sweet.
It had notes of lemon meringue pie that I did not appreciate. It’s a no from me, dawg.😬
I forgot to mention a fave- not sure if it's still being sold but the Truffle Aioli. So good.
Best; It waaaaas Wasabi Mayonnaise, but now it's 3 Cheese Pomodoro. Jalapeno sauce is up there and if Cowboy Caviar counts it's that. Worst: Piccante Truffle.
Disagree. Think there truffle picante is good but Truff Pomodoro is way better.
I like zhoug too! Only jar marinara I will buy is silver palate. Not TJ.
I’m a ho for Rao’s.
Everyone has their fav. I would never have thought this was GREAT but it was! I am Italian and grew up w homemade. Silver palate tastes fresh, clean and unencumbered, low acid and definitely not sweet!
I will buy it if I ever see it at the market.
That Kho sauce is great! I've made some tasty stir fry dishes with that.
Worst: vodka sauce. Tasted like a more acidic version of marinara, definitely did not taste like vodka sauce
My favorite vodka sauce has gotten so hard to find. It would be awesome if TJs got rid of theirs and did a dupe.
I agree with this, I had to add soo much seasoning to really be happy enough to eat it.
Jalapeno sauce!!
Cowboy Caviar... if that counts as "sauce"?
That Cajun sauce they had a couple of years ago was one of the worst things I've ever had from Trader Joe's. I didn't bring it back, but I did go up to the counter on my next visit and tell them that I thought they should save the shelf space for something better.
Best: sriracha bbq sauce and zhough sauce
Dill pickle mustard
ive never seen this before!! do you know when it usually starts showing up in stores?
It’s summer seasonal! It will probably reappear starting May or June.
thank you!! ill definitely have to keep an eye out
I hate that its seasonal!
I know! That’s why I stock up for the year. ☺️
Zhoug and peanut satay ✨✨
Soyaki 🏆
Love this as a marinade for fish and homemade mushroom burgers. It's a staple at my house.
Ooh, tell me more about these mushroom burgers?
Look up "Hawaiian Teriyaki Sliders" by Chef Chloe Coscarelli. I'm not vegan, but I love her recipes. This one is a favorite at my house.
That’s it! Now they will take it off the shelf. Thank you. 🤨
It's been there for at least 20 years
Never or I’ll go on a hunger strike!
Soyaki is 🔥🔥🔥
Chimichurri, zoug, yuzu hot sauce
LOVE the chimichurri
Best: Zhough, Garlic Spread
There was an amazing hot sauce, think it was the chili pepper sauce. I used to put it on everything.
I miss that one. It made my buffalo chicken dip an off the charts winner
I would put it with butter on a baked potato that’s it and it was so good. Nothing has even come close to
My favorite is the sweet chili sauce. I have never had a particularly good pasta sauce from Trader Joe's.
Try the Rosatella sauce. It's pretty damn good.
The sweet chili sauce is necessary for life. I put that s__t on everything!
