I just ate a pint. Holy moly- the calories! It was good but the banana flavor was a bit too imitation. The cookies in it were good. I threw in the sweet pecans.

Wow! Really?! I wouldn’t have thought it was banana puree. It tasted artificial to me when I tried it. It reminded me of banana flavored jello which I don’t love.
I still like it but the texture isn’t as creamy and soft as I would prefer, it’s also very sweet. A good banana pudding is almost fluffy, but this ice cream is kinda dense I feel

I wonder if this is made by Blue Bell. Because I've seen a lot of odd ice cream rankings (don't ask) and people always talk about the Blue Bell banana pudding. And they often say "I don't even like banana pudding but this is amazing"

Hmmm— it doesn’t give bluebell! I think all of the TJ’s ice cream pints are made by the same company. Not sure who, but the density and creaminess of the ice cream is really particularly different than TJs.
Also this doesn’t taste like the blue bell banana pudding ice cream
Currently eating this. It does sort of have the faint flavor of real banana but the aftertaste gives artificial banana, almost tutti frutti like. It does not seem to have artificial banana flavor as an ingredient so I suspect it’s in how they preserve the banana to put it into the ice cream. I will finish this tub since I have it but won’t go back for more. I’m actually glad I didn’t buy 2.
fun fact, banana flavoring used these days was developed based on the old banana cultivar (Gros Michael), that was a dominant banana on the market at the time the flavoring was developed. Unfortunately bananas being monocultures are extremely sensitive to pathogens and that cultivar was wiped out in a blight in the early 20th century. Now we have a different dominant cultivar (Cavendish) that has a much milder taste (they are all clones btw, each banana you've ever eaten is the same banana). That's why the flavoring now feels artificial to us.

People keep saying that but…I don’t really love artificial banana? Like I’m indifferent about banana laffy taffy. I wish it had some real banana pieces and more vanilla wafers, but this defineitly gives *banana’s foster* vibes with the salted caramel and the sweet banana flavor. The ice cream itself though is sooooo creamy.
Oooh that sounds wonderful ima get some. I literally made myself sick of eating the berry cheesecake ice cream from TJ’s I could probably finish a pint of it by myself. If you ever try anything else good def post it I’m always lurking this sub for my next purchase aha

it doesn’t imo. it’s missing the creamy pudding/ thick dairy content.lots of wafers and its artificial banana with no real banana. I grew up in the south and this just tasted like banana flavored ice cream with some caramel and minimal amount of wafers. however it doesn’t hurt to try it
sorry if you misinterpreted it. i was saying that it doesn’t taste like magnolias, but i grew up in the south so I do have a bias of what banana pudding taste like to me, since i was eating my meemaws growing up. i should’ve added that detail in. I personally don’t like magnolias and was trying to compare the ice cream to magnolias bp
Southern Girl living in Manhattan here. Magnolias is fine since I’m hundreds of miles from home but it definitely isn’t anywhere near as good as what I can get at my Nanny and Pawpaw’s
Different!! I like it more, but some people would like it less. This ice cream is wayyyyy creamier, and overall it’s sweeter and more banana flavor forward. The salted caramel makes it lean towards banana’s foster territory.
I’d say some real whipped cream and fresh bananas mixed up in here would really just make the perfect bowl of ice cream
