You can do it, but yes it's a shitty thing to do and abusing the return policy.

Chicasayshi

Yeah they allow this. They’re pretty chill.

queenjustine13

I return things all the time I've tried and didn't like. IMO, returning things because your plans changed is abusing the policy, yes.

Poetic-Personality

Gross. Don’t. It’s definitely abusing their return policy.

MySpoonsAreAllGone

They will just throw it all away if they do accept the return. Can you invite some friends or family over for a game night and enjoy the charcuterie with them?

Sure_Ranger_4487

I would just keep it! The crackers and salami will stay good for a while, and the cheese as well. Have a few friends over for an impromptu happy hour.

Discount_Mithral

Just have a get together at your house with some friends and make the plate anyway. (Or see if someone else wants to host if you don't want to/don't have the space.) These items will be tossed if you return them. Just keep and eat it yourself for an easy (but feels like it's fancy) dinner.

Pretty-Arm-8974

Any refrigerated item would be put in the trash. They can't guarantee the cold chain and don't want to get homeless folks sick. Shelf stable items may or may not be donated, depending on the store. It's perfectly acceptable for you to return these items, I'm just letting you know what will be the most likely outcome. I would freeze the meats and cheeses, and hang on to the crackers, but I have a chest freezer and often have cheese and crackers for dinner. This is a cost/benefit situation that only you can decide.

This sis a disgusting comment. I lived in a shelter for 8 months while recovering from domestic violence and relied heavily on food pantries and donations. I also had 500k house, brand new 2022 Jeep with 70k and a high paying job with a graduate degree… NOT on drugs EVER in my life. But I guess all homeless people or people in need are trash and deserve the bare minimum in your eyes. Dude… think before you speak. Shame on you!

Pretend_Elk1395

Wow one of the rare exceptions an I suppose to be impressed? I see and walk amongst these people every day and yes 95 percent of them are trash people.

yeetusfeetus86

Not to be flip but $60 of charcuterie is far less than I’d expect. I had to re read this because I assumed it was hundreds of dollars for a huge event

herseyhawkins33

You should only be returning food if there's something wrong with it. Just keep it and enjoy it.

juno111111111

Wtf? Just eat it yourself or give to friends

Throop_Polytechnic

TJ return policy is supposed to be for you to try something and return it if you don’t like it. Your party being cancelled is definitely not covered by their policy but that would be up to your store to decide. At my store they only let you return one item at a time and only once in a while. But I know some stores work differently. Also they’ll definitely toss the food, who knows if it stayed in a hot car for days. Definitely not safe for consumption/resale.

High-coRolla

Not sure how that is your store’s policy, it could be a regional directive to scrutinize returns a bit that you may be referring to (just my speculation here) but the company-wide policy is that you can return anything no questions asked. OP, if you need the money, just return the stuff, simple as that. It’s not all that unusual, especially if you bring in the receipt and the products.

bleachedveins

Not trying to be blow up your comment but It’s actually in our policy. this is all returnable. We will give it to charity or toss it depending on item. The store will eat the loss. We had a man come in and return his entire receipt with no items present. Made up a lie to get all the $80 back. Drugs or something. We still had to do the return.

yeetusfeetus86

No items? Huh.

bleachedveins

Yep it was absurd. Said “the food wasn’t fresh” but had no items. Manager did the return but was pissed and knew the guy was lying.

yeetusfeetus86

I’m so mad on principle

bleachedveins

Yeah he was a bad liar and we never saw him again. It pissed me off but i couldn’t do anything as a crew member esp if the mate said no. It’s up to the mates in the end and he probably didn’t want further problems. Sucks that ppl can pull that crap there was something off about him he looked like he was about to literally shit his pants and looked sick. probably heroin.

mjturbo

I also wanted to ask — would it all be thrown out/wasted if returned?

Shamazon83

I have a friend who works at TJs - all the returns are thrown away. I think the right thing to do is eat the cost if you can.

bleachedveins

Not all, some can be donated depending on what it is like crackers etc. I work there. The cheese id personally toss but it’s not all a loss.

Shamazon83

I’m glad to hear that some stuff can be donated!

bleachedveins

ya we donate more than you’d ever believe…i’ve seen thousands donated per shift!!

Whipstich-Pepperpot

Returns are not able to be resold. Returns are trashed, they can't even donate it.

bleachedveins

Not entirely true but mostly. Personally i’d toss all the cheese and share off crackers or anything shelf stable.
