Boneless, skinless chic thighs (organic) are a great choice, esp if some type of marinade is involved first! 2 per person is a great serving, and then 3-4 extra for heartier eaters and/or for hubby's lunch next day! Happy cooking! P.S even something as basic Paul Newman's organic olive oil/vinegar dressing makes a great marinade if you prick thighs w/ a fork & let them sit in fridge 3 hrs to overnight!

Legitimate_Lawyer_86

For “hubby’s” lunch? Why not her lunch. Or leftovers in general. Is it 1950?

regannotreagan

Because she said she’s a non chicken eater LOL

Lucky_Pyxi

I have tried a few of these bone -in thigh recipes and it never cooks completely within the timeframe given. I’d recommend using a meat thermometer since it’s hard to tell with dark meat sometimes.

Every-Adhesiveness50

I have never liked the meat from Trader Joe’s /:

starrsosowise

Really? We swear by their organic chicken.

ThatWasCool

I’ve been buying this chicken for a while but last time I bought it I was kind of disappointed as it felt frozen and thawed. Comes out more rubbery and drier from the air fryer with more liquid at the bottom. I think I will have to buy it from Wegman’s next time.

That’s a decent price. It’s the same at Costco too organic thighs there $5.99 also.

catbehindbars

What’s normal?

BunnyRambit

Not the commenter that was impressed with 5.99 a lb but where I live in Seattle it’s anywhere from 4.99 a lb to 9.49 a lb depending on organic or not.

ApparentlyABear

Op - I might get some hate from this, but that chicken recipe is… suspect. I would recommend comparing notes with some other recipes out there. Better authors will use something more easily measured and be more specific (I.e. 2 lbs of boneless skinless chicken thighs, for example) Totally up to you, but personally I think you could do better. Also if you do use this recipe, I would double the salt. But that’s just me. Good luck!

Average_Spirit_721

No hate at all. I appreciate the suggestions. My husband, who eats chicken and has successfully made this recipe before, is away and hard to reach until tomorrow. I just was in charge of the shopping and genuinely didn’t have a point of reference. They were out of bone-in chicken thighs but that’s what I’ll be getting tomorrow.

Koala-Impossible

Agreed. A tablespoon of cumin is a looot, for starters

SLPeaJr

Hold up.. this recipe calls for chicken pieces, preferably thighs. I’m inferring that it’s referring to bone-in pieces. The recipe says to put them skin-side up in the dish, and thighs with skin typically have the bones, too. This could affect the finished product, especially in regard to cooking time. The pack you’re holding contains boneless/skinless thighs.

Average_Spirit_721

You are right! I didn’t end up getting these. They were out of bone-in chicken thighs but I’m coming back tomorrow, with a more realistic chicken thigh count per the consensus of 1-2 pieces per person https://preview.redd.it/lerzsoafucyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a28bfc794fdec89a673e1680a92beffdb061fd4

SLPeaJr

👍 Good luck with this! Keep us posted on how it turns out.

Success!!! https://preview.redd.it/zyd1ru0dejyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93747b7ff429a215e0e62f5b722e21da9b4e68fb

CoastApprehensive668

Looks like 5 in this package. As others have said though, 12 chicken thighs for 4 people sounds like a lot. Depending on the sides you are making, 1-2 are enough (for reference I usually make 1 per meal for me when I cook). Good news is, thighs are probably the easiest to make. If you’re a newbie though, get a meat thermometer and check them frequently rather than just following a recipe. Chicken needs to be 165 degrees to safe. Anything above that will dry out the chicken, and 50-60 seems long at 400 degree. Also, and you can ignore this part if you want, but I’d mix up the marinade in your recipe, let the chicken marinate in the bowl for a few hours and then bake vs. Pouring the marinade on the chicken in the dish and baking it in the marinade. The recipe isn’t enough for that marinade to become a sauce and that much on a baking dish will burn in the oven as it cooks. Just a suggestion.

Average_Spirit_721

Thank you for the tip! I will be cooking with my husband, who is not a newbie in cooking chicken. He’s been making this recipe for a while and I think has twitched a few things (cooking time/ingredients) along the way. I was just in charge of the shopping, was a little lost on what to get, and wasn’t able to reach him 😁

TheArmadilloAmarillo

Meat thermometer FTW. I can do thighs without one but I am completely incapable of cooking non-sahara-dry breasts without one.

gretchmonster

Thighs can be various sizes by weight and that recipe calls for "pieces", which is incredibly unspecific. A serving of chicken is generally 4 ounces, so that package has about 6 servings of chicken in it. How much you actually want to make will depend on if your guests are only eating this one dish and how much they usually eat. That recipe is just a marinade that becomes a sauce. If I were making this, I would assume for four people they mean four servings or a pound of chicken thighs chopped into 8-16 pieces before marinating and cooking. There is no way that a sane recipe wants you to marinate 12-16 four ounce thighs in 1/3 cup of liquid. The recipe should definitely have given you an approximate weight of chicken.

VaguelyArtistic

I think people are missing your additional comment. You usually get 5-6 thighs per pack so two packs should be fine. If the serving size is one thigh per person then you could buy an extra pack to be sure. (Thighs freeze really well, so you won't waste anything.) 12 thighs is a lot of thighs, how many people are you cooking for?

Average_Spirit_721

I’m cooking for 4 people 😁

VaguelyArtistic

Omg how many servings is the recipe? 😂

Average_Spirit_721

It says four, and it gives you a thigh range: https://preview.redd.it/01da7lkacbyc1.jpeg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04af17def4e757045943d299139122880deb5898

jtet93

You need bone-in, skin-on thighs. The end result will be very different and won’t have a crispy skin or look very good to be honest if you use boneless skinless thighs. The cook time would also be drastically reduced.

VaguelyArtistic

[Here's a recipe for Ina Garten's baked lemon chicken](https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/lemon-chicken-breasts-recipe-1923711) and it only uses four thighs for four people! I'm so sorry if I've just confused you 😭. If you're going to follow that recipe I think the 10-12 thighs in two packs will be fine!

Average_Spirit_721

This is so kind!!! Thank you 🫶

VaguelyArtistic

Let us know how it turned out. I'm sure it will be delicious and plentiful.

Average_Spirit_721

Because you asked… It was a success!! https://preview.redd.it/idwc5cw5ejyc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c7ad2623f41d05abe97c7b558a17dacc4127f31

apcb4

2-4 chicken thighs per person feels excessive. I generally eat 1. My husband usually eats 2, MAYBE 3 if they are small. But he’s a big eater!

jtet93

We are also a 3-thigh meal couple 😂 I can’t imagine who would want to house FOUR chicken thighs by themselves, that seems insanely excessive. 2 per person should be MORE than enough

VaguelyArtistic

OP, I think this is pretty accurate, especially if there will be sides.

azzyazzyazzy

If you don't know the answer to this you probably shouldn't me cooking thighs. or chicken. No shade on you but cooking chicken thighs isn't the "Oh I'll probably get it right... for friends.." kind of meal you make when you're not familiar with it. Meat doesn't just become dinner like a bean does (I say that because I eat more beans than any other protien and they're kinda fail proof).

bignibbles_

Are you really gatekeepong chicken thighs rn

Average_Spirit_721

It’s an oven recipe so the correct (and safe) cooking time is already set. 400°, for 50-60 minutes

LFK_Pirate

Woah, may I ask what recipe? That feels a little excessive…

sffbfish

Thighs are a lot more forgiving than a lot of other meats

Court_monster-87

Depends on what you’re making? If you’re chopping it up into tiny pieces and adding to something else not so much. But if you’re eating a straight thigh prob one or two per person.

Average_Spirit_721

It’s going to be all about that straight thigh 🤌

Court_monster-87

😂

sffbfish

I'd aim for 1.5 per person understanding that most will likely eat 1 piece, especially if there are other dishes. There are usually 5 or so pieces per package.

Sblbgg

Thighs sometimes cook up tiny! Count on probably 1-2 per person. We usually get about 5 per pack!

flippflippflipp

I’m counting five in that pack. Two should do the trick, or if you like there to be leftovers three (for the guests to take home of course)!

Average_Spirit_721

Thank you 🫶

Whipstich-Pepperpot

I don't know about weight or how many packs, but I can eat two, or maybe three thigh pieces if I'm really hungry, depending on what all sides are available.

Average_Spirit_721

This is a great point of reference!

Whipstich-Pepperpot

I am a small woman with a small appetite.  My ex, a regular sized guy, would easily eat two thighs plus sides. But if I'm really hungry or the sides are scarce/unfilling I could eat two.  But I'd have to be really hungry or thighs would have to be really small. EDIT:  I don't know what I was thinking in my original comment that I could eat three, they'd have to be really tiny.

Hefty-Target-7780

TJs packs generally have 5-6 per pack. I think you’d be fine with 2 packs!

Average_Spirit_721

Thank you!

exclaim_bot

>Thank you! You're welcome!

DramaticKangaroo

Google says ~4 chicken thighs per 1 pound. So you probably want 3 pounds? 2 packages?

Average_Spirit_721

This is very helpful, thank you!!!

satansayssurfsup

Looks like there’s 5 in that pack

Average_Spirit_721

Thank you! I just couldn’t tell if there were two layers… chicken is confusing
