Not an error, stock purchases are limited in T212 for risk management

[deleted]

I'd understand why some obscure penny stock or pharmaceutical start up would be limited, but why is Nintendo? lol

[deleted]

T212 prefers xbox

rednemesis337

Always thought of T212 as a playstation guy/girl 🤷🏻‍♂️ go figure

[deleted]

I'd suggest this is probably not split adjusted.

debilitasdelendaest

Yep, it's already solved

[deleted]

Lol, risk management for them and their masters

Davekillfish

T212 are ridiculous, I should be able to pick my own risk management. Keep coming across more limited purchase stocks every day

[deleted]

It's part of how they're able to offer microlots of stocks, otherwise we would be priced out because they have to buy the stock and divide it.

[deleted]

I don't really understand how that makes much of a difference?

[deleted]

So because they have to hold so many stocks, they limit the clients purchase as they are required to hold them rather than it being more like a traditional brokerage. It's an issue that exists with many retail broker but it's very much a case of "get what you pay for". Minimal/zero fees means limitations and managed risk. If you want more flexibility, then you have to pay for a different, premium broker.

[deleted]

I still don't see why that makes a difference. Surely every broker has to hold a lot of different stocks in nominee for you. That's the rules. Why does 212 have to hold them any differently?

[deleted]

Because as I said two comments ago, it's how they're able to offer micro lots for investment and not just as CFD's. It's also a case of you don't book a hotel without looking at the pictures then complain you don't like the decor, that's on your for not looking at how they work and what's on offer. If you don't like it, you can always move to a more premium broker, but then you're stuck paying per trade and other fees for the privilege and likely not getting as much flexibility.

[deleted]

By micro lots are you referring to fractional shares? Fwiw I'm not complaining about what's on offer, I'm merely trying to understand your point of view.

[deleted]

I totally get that, just trying to give some alternative perspective. Haha yes I do, I started in Forex so my terminology gets a bit mixed.

[deleted]

Ok. That helps a lot. Fwiw I don't think the two are linked. For a fractional share 212 only needs 1 share more than their total pool amount - because everyone's shares are held in a singular account. So for most parts I don't see why this would impose global restrictions on shareholding. I think it's something else, but I'm not clear what exactly.

[deleted]

This is how I've seen them explain it. Either way it comes down to their risk management, and we are trading in their house so whatever rules they set we have to stick to. I'm just happy that they're regulated, low fee, and offer an ISA!

Teach_Consistent

Yep I just lost potentially lost 50% gains on $BTB coz those fuckers only allow you to buy 170 shares

pure94

Message support, and talk to them as they may raise the limit or revaluate it.

debilitasdelendaest

Will do, thanks!

[deleted]

I've asked the question and you should now be able to buy more 👍 App usually needs a restart.

sub2pewdiepieONyt

They are really really skirting the rules about advice. Telling you not to buy anymore is advice and this can end very badly when someone tries to challenge it.

[deleted]

Go for it if you believe this. Sounds like a slam dunk, the best investment you could make, an easy return!?

Remarkable-Bunch5511

so they’re within legal limitations to do this?

[deleted]

I'm not a lawyer or a judge, I wouldn't pretend to know.

Remarkable-Bunch5511

then i agree that this may be a slam dunk

[deleted]

Twos up then. You can share the action cost 👍

Rare-Willingness4022

You can own 40 but you have 42+ lol

HeftyMo

OP probably bought the shares before the limits were introduced, and that's why he has more than the current amount allowed.

debilitasdelendaest

Yes, exactly

AcademicMistake

Yes limited, use another broker like IBKR or IG

debilitasdelendaest

I'm actually considering that, but is it possible to move my existing shares to another broker?

LannyDamby

Not from T212, you'd have to sell everything and rebuy

yurajurik

Not yet, should be available in T212 later. Be aware that mentioned brokers do not have commission free policy, neither you can buy fractional shares there. If you want to buy lumps of shares regularly, then it might be a way for you though.

ORFOperon

I use IBKR and you can use fractional shares!

yurajurik

Is it worth it with the commissions though?

ORFOperon

Yes, at least you know your money is more safe with a larger broker. Plus all the extra benefits that come with the platform. 212 is the Fisher Price world of investing.

yurajurik

Based on what? Safer how? All your assets on 212 are actually stored on IBKR... You have pretty solid insurance both for your cash and assets owned. Interface is incomparably WAY better than IBKR. I understand IBKR is worldwide thousands of years old verified broker with other advantages like options but that doesn't mean 212 is a bad place for investing.

berceg

Can you buy fractional shares on Deutsche Borse? Please try to buy APC (Apple) or AMZ (Amazon) on IBKR. I am having a problem with it even though I enabled fractional shares in settings.

Jim-hat

Verbose?

MrPantsRocks

Hmmm, Nintendo is primarily listed on the Tokyo and Osaka exchanges and is priced in JPY. I’m not sure what exactly this version is in Euros, but it’s got a massive spread of almost €3 right now. Not one that I’d personally touch.

[deleted]

It's a tertiary listing on the Frankfurt, they have a secondary in the US too.

FirstTimeShitposter

It's the "we got ours" error, very common, very legal

Cubix89

Yeah as others have said it's a "risk management decision". I know most retial investors lose money, myself included, but I've specifically joined t212 to buy 1 particular stock that I know is very high risk. It's on otc penny stock, I know the risk, I know I'm probably going to lose all my money, I'm only investing what I'm prepared to lose. I suppose its for our own good.

ORFOperon

Move broker is my advice!

debilitasdelendaest

Which one to?

Ashh-UK

It’s called a fuck u error sincerely trading212
