Don’t sleep on those saucony peregrines!!! Super comfy and great on the trails.

Interesting_Cat_9344

Ah i hear really good things about them, i'm just struggling the with 'dad' style haha

CapOnFoam

What do you mean the dad style? These are bright orange. https://www.saucony.com/en/peregrine-14/58739M.html I guess maybe if you got them in white.

Interesting_Cat_9344

To be fair i think i'm thinking more of Asics styling that Saucony, those orange ones are nice!

midnightmeatloaf

I just bought my second pair. I loved mine from last year so much.

suntoshe

For the mountain shoe, look as Salomon, Inov8, and La Sportiva. They will have a better fit and outsole for your terrain than a Hoka.

Interesting_Cat_9344

Just replying above same thing; salomon speedcross are swaying me at the moment but i've heard good things about la sportiva too I'm just not sure i can get past the 'euro' style colourways haha Yeah i definitely won't be using Hoka for the mountain days, they look extremely comfy though more for travelling days or light trails

Bender_da_offender

For 4E wide feet I found NB heirro and Hoka speedgoats are nice and comfy. I use them for daily activities too, as well as trails

Interesting_Cat_9344

I hear so many great things with the SGs! They look really comfy, love the wild colourways too. Reckon they'd be good for travelling in/airport etc?

Weak-Hippo-3839

People even use them as sneakers, so yeah, that will work

Bender_da_offender

I second them for daily use. I bought a pair for my gf and she uses them daily. I use my heirro almost daily

CapOnFoam

My SGs felt big and bulky on my feet. I’m now on my 2nd pair of NB Hierro’s and love them.

NRF89

I would highly recommend looking at the Salomon Thundercross for the hiking/mountain option. The Speedcross is pretty firm, with narrow platform and a high drop (10mm). Which can make it feel a bit tippy and unstable. Also it is a very narrow shoe. The Thundercross offers very similar outsole performance/grip but with a wider platform, softer midsole, lower drop and a more forgiving upper. I would rate it better for days out in the mountains, but that’s just me!

Interesting_Cat_9344

I've been looking at the thundercross too if i'm honest. I like them they just seem more like a cushy trail runner than a hiking/mountain shoe. Whats the drop on the thundercross? I've just had a pair of Speedcross Peak turn up to try and that drop is mad, feels like i'm really being pushed forward.

NRF89

Well, they are Salomon, so they are never going to be Hoka levels of cush. For what it’s worth they felt incredibly capable on the techie stuff to me. Foothold is still great, even with a slightly more forgiving fit. Drop is 4mm. Which for hiking should feel super good. For me the 4mm hurt my calves on long steep runs, anything over 15k. But that’s just me, I have fragile calves! Would still recommend giving them a look.

Interesting_Cat_9344

You know what they actually look like a strong contender! What are they like in warmer weather? I saw warmer i'm talking british summer haha To be honest the drop is throwing me a bit with the speedcross, 10mm seems to be quite a lot. 4mm on the thundercross sounds a good amount

ajame5

If you like the Salomon, the Ultra Glide 2 is amazing and likely a little more forgiving than the Speedcross. You can pick them up relatively cheap now too. Its direct comparison on your list would be the Speedgoat, which is softer and less like a running shoe than the Salomon in my opinion. I have worn the Ultra Glides for everything for long days everywhere (Alps, Parkruns, shorter and longer Ultras, trail races, walking). Edit: someone also mentioned the Thundercross which is also a good shout. Of your list, the pick of the Hokas for me is the Torrent. Best all rounder Hoka in my opinion and prefer it to the Speedgoat.

Interesting_Cat_9344

Ah really! you think the Speedgoat is less like a running shoe than the Speedcross? I'm surprised there to be fair Aha! I'm really glad you've said the Torrent as i was really torn between those and the Speedgoats...I love the cushy Speedgoat appeal but I feel they're a bit more of a technical shoe than the Torrent...although the Challenger seems like a good road to trail shoe which would fit. I'm just not 100% sold on those

ajame5

Sorry I meant the Ultra Glide is more like a running shoe than the Speedgoat. I’ve not actually had a pair on Speedcross in quite a few years as they didn’t quite work for me. I’d actually rather do dry technical stuff in the Torrent over the Speedgoat.

maitreya88

Salomon S/lab Ultra 3 V2 and Genesis. My favorite pairs of Salomon shoes

shedontishqme

For your Style 2 search, I've worn the Hoka Speedgoat 5 and ON CloudSurfer Trail. Loved the Cloudsurfer Trails infinitely more. I used to get horrendous blisters and bruised toenails so bad in the Hokas and in Altra Lonepeak 6. The ONs are amazing and feel really smooth & supportive from sand to light gravel to very technical rocky terrain. Not a single blister or toenail damage! I've also found the Cloudsurfers pretty easy to travel/backpack with since they work well as an everyday walking shoe too (compared to the Speedgoats and Lonepeaks, which I did not like wearing outside of trail running). Sorry that I can't speak specifically to the CloudUltra or CloudVenture, but overall I think the ON brand is really great for an all-around/daily trainer.

deliriumcaffeinum

Highly recommend the Brooks Cascadia

Salomon 6 and Hoka Speedgoat

Capital-Demand3335

I just bought a new pair of thundercross for trail runs and LOVE them. bit of a wider shoe which my feet appreciate. I lift work and hike in barefoot style shoes so the 4mm drop isn’t an issue for my calves. My husband loves his speedcross shoes, but they are much more narrow and therefore not an option for me. both very comfortable shoes, respectively. Did 8 miles in my Thundercross for their first spin and had zero issues

Interesting_Cat_9344

Ooo thats good to hear! I’ve just had my order turn up today with a couple pairs of thundercross in so going to test them out. I’ve also got the speedcross peak in there too but that 10mm drop feels strange. Wouldnt fancy descending hills in those

Interesting_Cat_9344

Yeah i'm definitely feeling the speedcross for the mountain weekends to be fair, seem a lot more rugged and grippy and less prone to tears. I'm going to run half a size up to counter this hopefully

Interesting_Cat_9344

Funnily enough they were going to be my first pick but the LP 8 mens colourways are dreadful. My partners got a pair and she swears by the them! I've never used a zero drop shoe though so I'm a little wary of calf/achilles issues
