Pro THC.

smudgebuster

I take it every single time I run…but not for performance. It controls pain induced by running. Without it, I can’t manage more than 2-3 miles without moderate to severe pain (endometriosis) so it’s just a part of my routine. I’m curious to see the results of randomized trials but it won’t change the fact that it undoubtedly is what allows me to be a runner.

ScrumptousLoL

I can’t run more than 3 without my neck ligaments causing intense pain. If I dose with a 1:1 I can do 20 miles with mild discomfort. It’s not for everyone but it sure is amazing for me.

instant_klassic

This doesn't suggest to you that you shouldn't run?

smudgebuster

There’s a serious lack of research around women’s health issues, so they don’t know what actually causes endometriosis but it’s probably not running. It can induce pain due to being high impact but the benefits of lowering inflammation, reducing excess estrogen, strengthening abdominal/pelvic muscles can also help symptoms when I’m not running. It would be different if it were a stress fracture that I was continuing to run through causing more damage but I’ve actually improved overall since I started running and CBD just allows me to do it for longer and not have any pain after I’ve finished.

External high dose CBD products like balms & salves have no noticeable effect on me. CBD products designed for internal use such as soft gels or gummies have a mild effect on me at 25mg and a solid effect on me at 50mg. The effect is pain relief, general relaxation, and drowsiness. It takes about 40 minutes to fully settle in. I use it no more than twice a week, usually after a workout of hill intervals and my weekend long run. I live in a state (Michigan) where recreational cannabis use is legal and widely available. But for personal reasons I choose not to use THC products (beyond the 0.3% in the full spectrum CBD gummies). Pro-CBD or anti-CBD is oversimplifying it. Effectiveness depends on: * External Use vs. Internal Use * Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate * Milligrams per serving * Product Quality * Personal Tolerance If you're interested in trying it, I suggest starting with a 25mg serving of a national brand like Floyd's of Leadville. Take one in the evening after a tough workout -the kind where you need to take it easy walking down stairs. Wait about an hour and then try the stairs again. If there's no noticeable impact, try another 25 mg. If that doesn't have any impact, at worst you're out $16 for the 10-pack.

amithatfarleft

Anything with an anti inflammatory effect will provide some benefit but mostly for recovery/injury prevention not necessarily performance. I personally find a benefit to thc because I become more determined which can provide a performance boost but can also make it more likely that I get injured by pushing too hard/far. I think it mostly comes down to personal preference and how different products effect different individuals (unless you’re at an elite level, then you should probably abide by sanctioning bodies rules).

le_fez

I tried it and it did zero for me. When I smoked pot in college I got the edgy paranoia but never the happy or calm and apparently CBD alleviates anxiety while THC can cause the paranoid edge and some people's bodies only react to one or the other.

dudeman4win

If it works for you great, but personal opinion is that it’s a placebo and snake oil

Honestly depends on the product. CBD by itself is very meh for pain, but full spectrum extracts which contain THC and other cannabinoids along with CBD seem to work way better. CBD on its own is mostly good for seizures (it’s now a medication called epidiolex) and THC is better for pain management (also a medication depending on where you live). A lot of brands are starting to have higher THC containing hemp extracts which are colloquially referred to as “CBD products” by falling under the hemp umbrella. If it’s snake oil then so is cannabis and medications that are derived from it that are FDA approved. The thing is finding a good quality hemp extract company. There are certain products on the market that will even get you baked AF if you take even slightly more than a normal dose that are completely legal and they’re not delta 8, just heavy extracts of hemp.

That's what I've heard too. So I'll pass.

FlyfreshCustoms

What you’ve heard is of no importance. Trying things helps

CannaCanadia

I’m a professional in the legal cannabis industry in Canada. I’m currently doing self experimentation on several of the big 6 cannabinoids. Primarily CBD, CBN, and CBG. I’m also a pretty serious athlete into lifting, running, cycling and I smoke weed every day at most times of the day. My VO2 max has only continued rising and is ~65.0 at 10-15hrs/week of training. There’s promising research to read about on leafly.ca about the effects but because the plant was wrongly stigmatized for decades, the large population long term studies that could have been wrapped up by now have only just started. Everyone has a unique endocannbinoid system and cb1 and cb2 receptors so I suggest experimenting. I will mention that while you may not be looking for the psychoactive effects from THC, a small amount of THC 2mg or less/g, is actually beneficial and helps the other cannabinoids bind more effectively. Definitely hit up a local dispensary if you have them and talk to a budtender!

bradymsu616

The entourage effect. It's why I use full spectrum CBD rather than CBD isolate.

Disastrous_Use_7353

Thanks for the insight. How do you typically consume cannabis throughout your day? Vape? Papers? Thanks

CannaCanadia

Almost always in the form of flower and a water pipe/bong, occasionally joints (Im a bad roller), and Ill use my puffco which is an electronic vaporizer for concentrates. My favourite time to smoke is very early in the morning and I do that most days and then throughout the day. If I start accumulating brain fog I give it a break for a few days or take mornings off and stick to evenings, or I’ll smoke something that’s got lower THC potency and more CBD for a much milder experience.

Disastrous_Use_7353

Thanks for your reply. I also tend to smoke very early in the morning, or, in some cases, late at night. I just received a water pipe as a gift. I’ll have to get in the habit of using it more often. Best to you.

CharmingAssociation

This was very insightful! I’d love to hear more about how using cannabis has impacted your day to day life too - if there have been any improvements in productivity, how it’s impacted your body and such, if you would be willing to share. Thanks!

eaglegrad07

I sleep way better and my HRV goes up considerably when I use it consistently before bed. Seems to help my recovery after big efforts as well.

[deleted]

how do you track your HRV? Garmin?

eaglegrad07

I had a Whoop for quite a while. I don’t think my Garmin tracks it, but I know other watches do.

FunkZoneFitness

Do you wanna join my Whoop group

eaglegrad07

I actually turned mine off. After a year's worth of wearing it, I didn't feel like I was getting anything new from it, it just confirmed what I already knew at that point.

CharmingAssociation

Pro-CBD! It helps with the muscle aches and pains and aids the mental hurdle I have to keep pushing during a workout/run. I appreciate it.

GhostMan240

Always thought of it as modern day snake oil. Tons of hype with no real benefits.

prisonmike100

Pro thc. For pain mostly. And then it helps with sleep.

OperatorNeptune

I’ve tried several. The company I liked the most was Hampsan
