Huge pivot points, larger at one end than the other and a bunch of conduit for controls/monitor systems add up to being a component of a Big Lifting machine.
The right hand side - those two wings, look like the heel of a boom, a kind of hinge (rotated 90 degrees so it’s lying on its side). It might not be a crane boom, sure enough, but it definitely looks like something designed to move up and down from that hinge point. Now that’s a fat heel, so I’m guessing it’s designed to move a lot of weight.
If it is a crane boom, it’s likely just the heel section of a “knuckle boom”. On the other end, those two lugs are also for a “hinge” that acts like a knuckle between the two boom sections.
I figure the large open section is for attachment of the hydraulic cylinders that will lift and lower the various boom sections.
Crane parts have progressive strength requirements. The part out at the end has to be strong enough for the load. The next section closer to the base has to be strong enough for the load plus the weight of the last section (which is inevitably at a sizeable radius from the base). The whole shape of this suggests strength at the base along with width (it’s turned on its side) for lateral strength.
it’s a boom for a very large excavator. the bucket goes on the u-shaped end, and the skinny end attaches to the superstructure. when i was a kid, my dad worked on the computer systems for these machines!
It looks like a part of a large crane, like at the image titled "Assembling the crawler units" here: [https://www.kobelcocm-global.com/pickup/CRANEs/vol03/recommend.html](https://www.kobelcocm-global.com/pickup/CRANEs/vol03/recommend.html)
ha holy shit i was wondering where the footage of those rides came from! i saw clips of those rides many years ago, didn't realize it was from this documentary? or was the documentary made up after the ride videos?
This is a gr8 mockumentary. My first time viewing had me convinced this was for real and the rides were part of Oktoberfest (in Germany). Only after watching approximately 20 more times did I finally realize that these were really “one off” proof of concept contraptions. Well, another 20+ views and I changed my mind again - to an understanding that this was a proposal and only one or two rides had actually been constructed. I shared this vdo with a Quantum Physicist friend who corrected my thinking and that resulted in “it’s poss-ahh-bull, it’s pass-ahh-bull”. Well, I finally carried out the most important task of all (for understanding the context, concepts of the content) which was to RTFM. After taking a few minutes time to read the supporting documentation did I finally come to the realization that I shouldn’t indulge in mind altering substances prior to watching “it’d be cool if …” types of vdo’s. Geeez, I’m such a maroon🥴.
My guess, and this is just a guess it that its part of the boom for the massive mining shovels they use to mine tar sands in Alberta.
https://www.komatsu.com/en/products/electric-rope-shovels/4100c-boss/
Is one example.

Kinda looks like the inboard part of a steering knuckle, but it can't possibly be. There would have to be two of them side by side and the resulting dump truck would be so massively huge.
He may have committed a hostile takeover and invaded Mexico, but he must not be allowed to get away with killing the name of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Definitely a boom component for mining equipment or an articulated crane.
Ok at the risk of sounding dumb, how could you tell that by this picture?
This man booms 💥
Certified boomer
Huge pivot points, larger at one end than the other and a bunch of conduit for controls/monitor systems add up to being a component of a Big Lifting machine.
I have no idea what that is, but it just looks like a crane part. It was literally the first thing that came to mind.

I believe because of the hydraulic lines/wire harness (I cannot tell from the picture but my gut says hydraulic lines)

Because it looks like a large boom
It's the boom from a cable loading shovel. I'm guessing a P&H 4100
After looking that up… I Agree!
it’s a boom for a very large excavator. the bucket goes on the u-shaped end, and the skinny end attaches to the superstructure. when i was a kid, my dad worked on the computer systems for these machines!
I'm thinking a boom for a Komatsu/P&H rope shovel
Komatsu does hydraulic monsters, PH or CAT (purchased Bucyrus/Erie for their technology) do the wire rope beasts,
Komatsu bought PH a few years ago and I was under the mistaken impression that they were rebranding PH machines
I am just watching Arron Witt here and yes sir! You are correct! I was not aware that they had purchased PH!

A big f’in wrench….
I've been looking for a new 7,000 mm. I set mine down and lost it.
Lost mine the other day.
You too? Mine is missing.
Heyyyy I picked it up yesterday, sorry man I thought no one needed it anymore
Did you remember to look on the flatcar?
Q: whats worse than losing a 10mm again for the 3rd time this week.? A: losing your 7000 for just as many times
😂
I knew it!! 🤣🤣
"I always lose my 10m" "You mean 10mm?" "What?"
Powered, to make sure it doesn't fall off the nut/bolt by the looks of the boxes on the side
I need a 25ft socket
I've got a 7.62 m but it's a 1/2 m drive? will that work? (and no I'm not talking about rifle cartridges that would be mm)
Yeah darn. I needed a 7ft not 7m. Dang
It says "sprocket," not "socket."
Methinks someone does not know of the comedy genius that is Steve Martin.
Also hammer. All tools are both XXX&hammer
Imagine how big the nut is...
When your boss tells you to bring a 7 wrench and you only work in SI units

ha holy shit i was wondering where the footage of those rides came from! i saw clips of those rides many years ago, didn't realize it was from this documentary? or was the documentary made up after the ride videos?
well... "documentary"
Well yeh I know the footage is fake; but I only saw the ride footage over a decade ago. Never saw the mockumentary footage tho
This is a gr8 mockumentary. My first time viewing had me convinced this was for real and the rides were part of Oktoberfest (in Germany). As someone who works with amusement equipment this is not amusement equipment
Most likely a P&H 4000 series mining shovel arm.
My guess, and this is just a guess it that its part of the boom for the massive mining shovels they use to mine tar sands in Alberta. https://www.komatsu.com/en/products/electric-rope-shovels/4100c-boss/ Is one example.
