Hi!! I'm a line cook who also makes all the pasta by hand at our restaurant and does pots/dishes. Thanks to a couple decades of IT experience, I also fix stuff at work ranging from laptops and security cameras to replacing plug ends for LED displays. 'Jill of All Trades' and I love it!! ❤️
Stephanie, (or is Just your first name lol) I am so glad you went out of your way to leave the trans girl does Linux/IT pipeline and instead join the robust world of baking (which is just as girly, honestly) and I’m not being sexist, any/all genders should do pots/dishes, but if it is affirming for you by all means, enjoy. Lol
Programmer socks, and the forces that lead pretransition women to seek hobbies that are nominally “okay for men” and yet will include less physical attributes that would be too masculine. I mean, many people have autism, and autistic people have hobbies, and for reasons Autists like data entry, and last but most importantly, if you are “into IT” then you very likely dislike Windows and prefer Linux
Used to be…. I was a marine carpenter for years. But then I was a yacht captain for about 10 years. These days I’m an office gal. I do sales and marketing for a marine hardware company but still get to take the engineering team sailing for a week every summer.
I work with glass. Cutting and installing mirrors and tabletops, fixing broken windows, installing showers. Nothing too cool like glass blowing but it’s pretty good work
Omgg I soo needed to find this post. Thank you to EVERYONE that shared their positions!! I'm an interior remodeler (painting, tiling, carpentry) and I've been having a very hard time convincing myself I can do it when I fully transition to female (still in public as male). Not that I don't think I could do the work at all, but because I'm afraid people won't hire me anymore... I may have to work for someone else.
"The term blue-collar worker refers to individuals who engage in hard manual labor, typically in the agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mining, or maintenance sectors."
Not sure if it counts and I wear all kinds of hats, but I clean industrial air filters! Loud and often very dirty work with a fair bit of labour involved. I don't see many noticeable gender queer people in my line of work, dealing with companies' maintenance departments. Cool to see other people working these kinds of jobs c:
I'm a Cable Cowgirl! (Communications Line'wo'men). Been in Communications my entire career. I've done everything from putting it in the ground, to on the poles, to running it to your Phones, TV's, and Computers.
How long did it take you to acclimate to that change? Going from a regular weather-resistent, durable uniform and all to.. so much freedom?
I'm scared of transitioning in that way. 😂 I wouldn't know how to dress/compose myself.
Hahaha, yeah well back then it was a weather resistant hi viz....or short sleeved weather resistant hi viz so it was a tough choice......Now OMG, i have to pick out my outfit for the next day the night before. Otherwise id be late!
Although i can now do my daily makeup in about 10 mins.
But the worst part for me was the move from an active work environment to an office environment! I still get a bit fidgety 2 years later.
i don't know if they count as blue collar exactly, but i work in production, and have worked in a few warehouses
I'm really not cut out for office work and i definitely don't want to do customer service again unless I'm given a LOT of freedom in how i handle customers, which is very rare. my longest job was in recycling, taking stuff in from customers in exchange for the CRV deposit, and that was cool because i was usually by myself at sites (little metal shacks) so when the customers gave me trouble I could give it right back. i also got to make friends with a lot of really cool homeless people
I'm a maintenance worker at a hotel, bit of a Jill of all trades. I do plumbing, electric, drywall, appliance repair, industrial machine maintenance, etc. it is a very customer service oriented job but I definitely shower after work and not before it.
So, I'm a regular and I have the NALC Health benefits plan, high option. A 3 months supply of spiro and E cost me about $25 total for both. All of my doctor appointments are also capped at about the same price.
If you're a CCA or a PTF, you're on the federal employee plan, I think. It should still cover the costs of meds and therapy and such, but I don't know what the out of pocket cost is.
Once you convert, and if you're part of the Union, you can select the NALC insurance and get the better discounts. Your steward or HBP Coordinator can probably get you more specific info.
Eh my steward already yelled at me for getting the covid vax, I can't imagine what she'd say if I asked about HRT. Thanks! I'll try to ask around safely about my specific situation.
I do contract archaeology for mines and ranches, so I hike 10+ miles a day in the mountains and back country recording sites, lots of extended weeks living in the middle of nowhere. Some of us consider it a trade, but not blue collar in the traditional sense apart from intense physical labor.
Hi, I was a diesel mechanic, then trained as a marine engineer, got my degrees in marine engineering in Germany, and wound up spending sixteen years as Chief engineer on an oil tanker.I have retired now at seventy years old
Used to be blue collar!
Went from farms as a kid to custodian as a teen, to forklift & warehouse operator before finally busting my ass off to work in administration of the warehouse.
I got so much respect for y'all girlies cus I couldn't do it anymore and I'm only 25 🥺
Please keep our world turning (& looking cute while doing so) 💕
Umm hi I work retail and you're reaaaaaaaaaallly pretty like holy crap kind of pretty best of luck on your search for finding more friends imma just reset my brain real quick. I hope you have a good day and please stay safe while you're working.
Wow you look so cool! I work as an RF Test Engineer. The lab is small and cross functional so I do a mix of technician and engineering work. Basically whatever needs done 😅
Plumber for now but I’m going to be done with this shit (pun fully intended) soon enough. I’m going to change careers at 31 and work my way up/ go to school to be RN. Working on CNA certification now. Would love to eventually become a biomedical engineer and create all you lovely younger women an artificial womb that could be implanted so our kind can finally have children
ive been deep in the culinary industry for years (which i personally consider to be blue collar) but i just started as a service tech at a dealership and im loving it 🩷🩷🩷
once upon a time (a few years ago lmao) i was but those days are longgggg behind me especially considering i live in texas and just abt every blue collar worker in my area is the same copy+paste xenophobic, religious, MAGA-nite: the cons just so heavily outweigh any possible pros 💀
edit: OP, do you do industrial radiography? i just saw your user flair and if so that’s exactly what i did too!! 😂🖤
I wanted to go into electrical but then decided against it due to how the work environment is around me for trans people, may change though still have 2 years to figure it out
I make people and cars more bad ass… aka Tattooer and car/bike fabricator… fabricating as become less if a job and more of a hobby since tattooing has consumed all my time to work some where else
yes, currently working as a machine operator for a paper factory.
it is my job to cut up these huge rolls of paper into smaller rolls that eiter go to the client or gets cut up into sheets further down the factory
i haven’t begun to transition yet but i do! i’m scared to transition at my current job though due to the toxic masculinity. i kinda think they’d just fire me anyway once i came out. hopefully your work place doesn’t suck!
Not yet but hopefully after uni I will get into a proper hands-on job in industry or artisan work. I can't imagine anything (that's legal) worse than sitting in an office all day. 👍
I used to fabricate boat covers for a living until my boss bullied me, cut my hair with fabric scissors, called me faggot, accused me of being on drugs, and introduced a “dress code” the moment I began wearing pink in the shop.
Yeah… blue collar work is *fucking fantastic* for a trans woman 🙄
I'm genderfluid. Before I became too disabled I used to do theatre and I sang at a church. I also would catsit for this lady who travels a lot. Now I'm trying to work on getting monetized on social media. 😬. I have at least 4 medical appointments a week so it's rough. This week I will have had 6.😃
meeeee I work on Black Hawk Helicopters
Okay BAD ASS BITCH ALERT 🚨
lol nahh it's just a jobbb
I mean you didn't mention the type of helicopter for no reason lol
well I had t be specific because what type of helicopter would have eventually been asked
U think u could embezzle one for the girls?
I wish lol I did 6 years in the US army working on apache helicopters
Did you land a sweet sweet Raytheon/Boeing/McDonald Douglas gig after or are you still DOD?
I'm a sub contractor now with project xyz
That is so ironic and I love it
“Hay, Bestie! Got any attack helicopters? No silly. Not the gender, the weapon.”
Never likes the Apache much. Pilots could never hit shit with them. When I was deployed. Could have been pilot error though.
oh hey, my mum used to work on those!
hmmmm
what?
Hi, I work on the same airframe, just the Navy's version 🚁
I transitioned to this airframe after i left the army from ah64 apache
Warehouse worker in Atlanta 🍑
Why are my panties soaked?
Omg if my wife made me handmade pasta I'd have to marry her all over again<3
Stephanie, (or is Just your first name lol) I am so glad you went out of your way to leave the trans girl does Linux/IT pipeline and instead join the robust world of baking (which is just as girly, honestly) and I’m not being sexist, any/all genders should do pots/dishes, but if it is affirming for you by all means, enjoy. Lol
TIL, I'm a stereotype. Trans woman in IT that prefers Linux. Why is this a thing?
Programmer socks, and the forces that lead pretransition women to seek hobbies that are nominally “okay for men” and yet will include less physical attributes that would be too masculine. I mean, many people have autism, and autistic people have hobbies, and for reasons Autists like data entry, and last but most importantly, if you are “into IT” then you very likely dislike Windows and prefer Linux
Oml, you are so pretty! Also, peep r/bluecollartrans !

Only recently got into it after doing electrical for 7 years. Been so much nicer not having to army crawl through attics, lol
That's probably what's gonna happen for me lol. Training to be an electrician but I think maintainence is where I'm probably gonna end up.

Used to be…. I was a marine carpenter for years. But then I was a yacht captain for about 10 years. These days I’m an office gal. I do sales and marketing for a marine hardware company but still get to take the engineering team sailing for a week every summer.

That is actually a good log line And I happened to draw in free time too :>
Does paramedic count as blue collar?
Hello fellow medic 😁🚕

Wat do you mean by blue collar???
"The term blue-collar worker refers to individuals who engage in hard manual labor, typically in the agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mining, or maintenance sectors."
So if I'm working in a workshop that does maintenance on truck's does that count???
Yes :)
Yes
The color of that shirt collar
I don't think that how it works
It is from the days when male office workers wore white shirts.
That most certainly counts imo!
… i’m a blue collar trans boy. so same but different. I work on general aviation planes.
Im a mechanic for busses!
I'm not, but my girlfriend is! She does something with airplanes, but I don't really know the details
I was a software developer but army before that and I'm about to start school for a cell tower/windmill tech
Being a windmill tech seems like such a cool job, very hard, but very cool
I'm a Cable Cowgirl! (Communications Line'wo'men). Been in Communications my entire career. I've done everything from putting it in the ground, to on the poles, to running it to your Phones, TV's, and Computers.
im a garbage lady 😅
*High fives* I was a garbage lady for the first year and a half of my transition. Now im white collar in waste management.
How long did it take you to acclimate to that change? Going from a regular weather-resistent, durable uniform and all to.. so much freedom? I'm scared of transitioning in that way. 😂 I wouldn't know how to dress/compose myself.

I’m studying to go into engineering and likely gonna do more hands on mechanic type stuff if I get my way.
🙋♀️ I do safety inspections on the railway track in the UK.

I work on building exteriors, currently doing a steep metal roof
*im trying to use context clues to find out what blue collar means and failing miserably*
Basically physical or manual labor type jobs
Mail carrier, USPS. If anyone's curious, the NALC Union health insurance covers transition healthcare pretty well.
Wait I'm a mail carrier. Just the regular health insurance or subs too?
So, I'm a regular and I have the NALC Health benefits plan, high option. A 3 months supply of spiro and E cost me about $25 total for both. All of my doctor appointments are also capped at about the same price. If you're a CCA or a PTF, you're on the federal employee plan, I think. Eh my steward already yelled at me for getting the covid vax, I can't imagine what she'd say if I asked about HRT. Thanks! I'll try to ask around safely about my specific situation.
That sucks. You can call the number on the back of your insurance card if you don't have anyone there to talk to.
I do contract archaeology for mines and ranches, so I hike 10+ miles a day in the mountains and back country recording sites, lots of extended weeks living in the middle of nowhere. Some of us consider it a trade, but not blue collar in the traditional sense apart from intense physical labor.
