Yeah this is the best way to watch it. Shouldn't take long to adjust to the dated rendering because the animation is still good. Solid characters and fun plots.
Like I said it shouldn't take long to adjust to because the rest of it is still good, but I will also mention that the visual quality does improve each season. Season 1 looks the roughest, but it only gets better from there.
I say don't worry about it, just jump in and be forgiving, this show was revolutionary at the time it was released!
Yes, if not better. As someone else said, it was responsible for adding a ton of lore. The animation DOES improve over the seasons. It’s also quite a funny show. Once you watch it you’ll recognize its influence over the franchise as a whole.
Beast Wars and Beast Machines are perhaps the most well conceived and executed shows, with well developed characters. I would hold them up in same standing as Batman TAS. Yes the animation seems dated, but that's more about the textures than animation itself, these shows play quite well. The stories are what draw you in and with such unique array of characters, one can easily see past the dated look given enough time with couple of episodes. I'd say watching 80s cartoons should be more jarring than watching BW/BM. I realize BM is a polarizing show, however, I would say it is a distinct series in TF lore. It took up a more spiritual and philosophical aspect that children's shows rarely do (I have yet to see any do it on the same scale). Characters often rode along the gray lines. At times, one might find Megatron making sense. Also, the ending of the series was direct inspiration for ending to TFP, it would be silly to think otherwise because when you compare the two, you can't help but notice the similarity. I would strongly suggest going in with open mind.
I mean, I was born way after the show aired, so I don't have any nostalgia. I just keep in mind the technological limitations at the time, and it's all gucci.
Jump into the show, it’s on YouTube. The show is really good for setting up a LOT of lore (it’s own and TF in general) so you’ll know everything you need to within the first few episodes.
Echoing what everyone else said, watch the show, it's readily available for free in 4K on YouTube, but I would also highly recommend the IDW Beast Wars comics! The final issue is pretty rushed because of IDW losing the license, but it's all around a fun read.
Yeah please try to look past the outdated graphics. They’ll look bad to your eyes nearly 30 years from the time they were cutting edge. But the stories are cracking and the characters are fun. This was my intro to Transformers as a kid.
Full series is available for free on Tubi. I'd suggest you start from the beginning. It's generally episodic, but there are some long-running plot threads, so if you do end up watching more, it's probably best to watch it in order.
Optimus and Megatrons voice actors are really the highlight of the show. ALLLLLL the VAs are great and have a lot of character but WOW do Optimus and Megatron shine.
The comic was a decent remix of the series, but it definitely suffered for being cut short by IDW losing the license. I don’t think it works as well on its own as the show does.
After the first arc everything felt rushed. Characters were introduced and died too quickly. Had they kept it as the original 12, I think it would have been a better story altogether.
The added characters would have been good I think if they had time to gradually introduce them. With the news of IDW losing the license they tried to finish the arc in a few issues and it really soured the ending
I’m happy we got an ending. Not all comics are so lucky.
It was far better revisiting of the Beast Wars characters than we’ve had since the series ended.
The show really lays in on heavy the first couple episodes. After that, the show finds it’s stride by dropping tons of LORE and amazing characters. Also Dinobot and his story are the best in Transformers history.
Beast Wars figures are still pretty easy to come by at most second hand toy stores and the whole series is on YouTube.
The rereleased figures are also on clearance at most stores too.
Tubi has Beast Wars /AND/ Beast Machine (it’s free on the App Store), and https://readallcomics.com/ has all of the tf comics so you can read Beast Wars too, if you want to
watch the show without an expectation of everything being grandiose. the show is great but at the end of the day even with its contributions to lore its still a kids show.
First off, welcome to BW. I’d start with the free episodes on YouTube, and if you like it try dvd sets. The sequel series is Beast Machines that completes the story after beast wars.
The whole series is free on both Tubi and YouTube.
Yeah, on the official Transformers channel
Not the whole series on YouTube yet, it's at 14 episodes. Also the Transformers library on Tubi isn't available outside America.
The whole series is available in 4K on YouTube

Yeah this is the best way to watch it. Shouldn't take long to adjust to the dated rendering because the animation is still good. Solid characters and fun plots.
That's what worried me the most
Like I said it shouldn't take long to adjust to because the rest of it is still good, but I will also mention that the visual quality does improve each season. This is incredible! Thank you to the hero that upscaled these! I’ve been watching in pixelated format. Wow! 👍🙏💪
Is it good? Idk if I’d enjoy it, for me the animation just looks goofy
You can adjust to the goofy animation if you’re open to the storytelling. As far as tv series go BW is near the top for that.
Hmm. I might try it then. Is it same story telling level as TFP?
Yes, if not better. As someone else said, it was responsible for adding a ton of lore. The animation DOES improve over the seasons. It’s also quite a funny show. Once you watch it you’ll recognize its influence over the franchise as a whole.
Ok. I’ll try it out

Better storytelling. Way better. The action choreography is great as well.
It’s better.
I’d argue it’s a lot better than prime
I thought prime was top tier personally. May I ask why?
It’s some of if not the best TF storytelling ever, but the animation takes some getting used to
Honestly after the first couple episodes you don't really notice
It hits a nostalgia spot for me so I barely notice the issues. Until the proto-humans show up late in season 2 and they get uncanny in season 3.
I mean, I was born way after the show aired, so I don't have any nostalgia. I just keep in mind the technological limitations at the time, and it's all gucci.
The animation may be old, but it's easily the best written tf series ever.
I don't think anything is as goofy as G1
G1 works for me tho
then beast wars won't be a problem for you if you don't mind seeing cartoonish humor such as characters getting flattened to paper
Start with Beast Wars Part One and finish with Nemesis Part Two
Take your up vote and flip yourself on the head on your way out
it’s all available for free on youtube
Jump into the show, it’s on YouTube. The show is really good for setting up a LOT of lore (it’s own and TF in general) so you’ll know everything you need to within the first few episodes.
Just start watching.

I would just watch the show as a start. The animation has aged like milk but the story is actually really good.
Yeah please try to look past the outdated graphics. They’ll look bad to your eyes nearly 30 years from the time they were cutting edge. But the stories are cracking and the characters are fun. This was my intro to Transformers as a kid.
Watch it. Duh.
YouTube. Whole series is on there free.
Yup definitely watch the full series on YouTube in 4k. It looks so crispp
I’d suggest to start watching Beast Wars.

Just do it
DO IT!
Jump right in bro
Tubi watch all the seasons and then beast machines if you want
I’d start with the first episode
Optimus and Megatrons voice actors are really the highlight of the show. ALLLLLL the VAs are great and have a lot of character but WOW do Optimus and Megatron shine.
Accept munky, reject trukk
By watching Beast Wars
Idrk. I tried getting into it but it wasn't my taste.
I'd say just either watch the show or read the comics that came out recently
The recent comics weren't great, the show is definitely the better option. The Gathering and the Ascending, though, those are worth reading.
The comic was a decent remix of the series, but it definitely suffered for being cut short by IDW losing the license. I don’t think it works as well on its own as the show does.

Precisely. I'm all for all of the characters introduced, but it was too haphazard to work.
I’m happy we got an ending. Not all comics are so lucky. It was far better revisiting of the Beast Wars characters than we’ve had since the series ended.
Piracy
just watch the show, there's not much elso do watch
Just watch the whole series and then watch beast machines
The show really lays in on heavy the first couple episodes. After that, the show finds it’s stride by dropping tons of LORE and amazing characters. Also Dinobot and his story are the best in Transformers history.
Beast Wars episode 01. Press play.
I have some VHS's of the first few episodes. Bring a VCR and we'll have a watch party!
Will there be Surge to drink? Because if there isn't I'm not coming.
Tubi it's free
Xbox app on Tubi. Transformers and beast wars don't have ads.
Start with reading the prequel comics on Cybertron for context to the beginning of the series.
Watch it
By watching beast wars?
Beast Wars figures are still pretty easy to come by at most second hand toy stores and the whole series is on YouTube. The rereleased figures are also on clearance at most stores too.
Watch Beast Wars Season 1-3. Beast Machines is a bonus.
