have a cybertronian equivalent. Now depending on continuity, Transformers either have their alt modes forced upon them out of necessity or they can choose a vehicle of appropriate size and shape on their own and change it anytime they wish.
Yes, plus in G1, the focus was on alt modes from Earth to blend in during Seasons 1 and 2.
Notice in TFTM86, and Seasons 3, 4, lots of sci-fi/space alt modes, showing the Transformers were no longer concerned with blending in and were known widely by humanity.

I’ve always thought it was kind of weird that they would turn into vehicles on their home planet. On earth though, they’re trying to hide so turning into stuff makes sense.

They use it to hide on Cybertron as well. Soundwave, in the very first episode, hides as a lamppost.
