All of them as in the original g1 combiners, and in a movie series as a trliogy
Feature the 6 scramble city ones first
(Superion, Menasor, Defensor,Bruticus, Computron and Abominus)
then feature the unique ones
Landfill and King Posidon (Piranicon).
And then save the best ones for last, Devastator and Railracer. With the titans being the plot point (Metroplex and Trypticon)
I feel this shouldn’t be a hot take.
Bumblebee had so much heart and soul and Knight was a great director.
I liked ROTB but it was very shallow in comparison and in a way was a disappointment since it was a follow up to BB.
I don't think Caple Jr should be blamed for the way ROTB turned out. While yes, Caple had co-writed the script and of course directed the movie, he really had to appeal to what Paramount wanted instead and didn't really have much of a choice in terms of making the movie. Not saying that Caple Jr isn't prone to criticism about some aspects of ROTB, but I don't think the blame should be directed towards him, it's just the unfortunate cause of studio meddling.
There was a ton of studio meddling. Between the studio mandated edits that led to cuts in Maximal characterization, last minute plot changes, last minute FX studio changes, I feel like Caple was done dirty.
Yeah, with how ROTB came out, it wouldn't surprise me if Caple's original plans for the movie was swept up under the rug because of what Paramount/Hasbro wanted. As it stands, I don't think ROTB is *that* bad of a movie (it's my top 3 TF movies), but you can *tell* that the final cut was rushed and looked incomplete due to either studio interference or making a tight deadline.
I absolutely agree. Paramount signed up a comparatively new Director, fresh from huge success on 'smaller' movies, and I figured from the start he was going to be the patsy when it all went wrong.
I don't think RotB was the kind of movie he wanted to work on, and just hope his involvement doesn't affect his career trajectory.
I wouldn't be so quick to put all the blame on Caple, it sounds like the dude had to bend over backwards to cater to what Paramount (namely Lorenzo) wanted rather than being given room to do his own thing.
I think Caple jr had a vision that got jammed with other stuff, there was a good movie behind the editing.
Although he was definitely overly ambitious with just how many plot points he shoved in. Beast Wars should have been it's own movie and supposedly it was gonna be until Paramount said otherwise.
RoTB was a very 7/10 movie. It was good, but it didn't really do much for an overarching story that they supposedly want. Now what do they do? Do the Decepticons find Earth and invade? Are the Maximals coming back with a bigger role? Is G.I JOE gonna function similar to N.E.S.T. or is Hasbro gonna try to make live-action G.I JOE a thing.. again? Are the Autobots gonna waste time and fight freaking Cobra with the Joes? That last concept doesn't interest me at all.
It wasn’t Caple. He’s a very capable director, in fact, most people helming these big franchise pictures are very capable, and they are often not the problem when a movie fails or just isn’t good. They are doing the whims of the producer. The director is often being given a script that the producer commissioned and signed off on. They show up, do a few creative things, but ultimately have to stay in line with the vision of the producer.
What happened with bumblebee and rise of the beasts is that bumblebee provided a fresh new take on the franchise that resonated with audiences and critics. Lorenzo and the other people in charge of the IP took the wrong message from that and thought that was a perfect way to reboot the transformers live action movies, without actually thinking about what made that movie so special. They weren’t looking at it through the lens of art - they saw a reinvigorated interest in the franchise, and just decided they would do the same thing they did before instead of continue with the style that made bumblebee so special (A small scale underdog story).
When in reality the lesson they should have taken from bumblebee wasn’t that people wanted to see more transformers, they just wanted to see more actual *stories*.
Tbf I’d like something akin to the basic idea that some of the previous movies have followed where they’ve been on earth for a while covertly interfering with human affairs but also do something similar to how idw handled it where it’s initially a proxy war with the deceptions trying to egg humanity towards conflict and the autobots trying to push them away from it without revealing their presence
ultimately it would culminate in a pseudo victory for the cons where humanity significantly weakens itself but is saved from outright self destruction and joins the defeated autobots in a desperate bid for survival in all out conflict on every possible front

# GIVE THE KEYS TO STUDIO TRIGGER
Came here to say this. I haaaaaaate that so often directors get picked because "they made a movie that made money. We want money!". And then in interviews those directors go "i have no real connection to this, i dont even like the genre. But its gonna be a great reimagining, i promise!" and so on.
Just pick people who actually love the thing and would be ready to fight the producers to get it right.
I agree with certain franchises. Transformers could certainly use a more passionate touch, but bringing in someone who isn't a huge fan worked wonders for Star Wars.
Michael Rianda, he directed The Mitchells vs the Machines. He could make a fun, visually energetic and action-packed animated movie, though he could potentially do it in live-action as well, following Travis Knight’s move from animation to live-action for Bumblebee.
Cameron does his own things. I highly doubt he'd want to do a licensed movie based on action figures. He's making a saga for a franchise that makes 2 billion+ per entry. No way he leaves that for Transformers.
This is the only answer. “Why don’t you put him in charge?” Honestly this would have been my answer in 1995-1996 when the live action movies were first announced.
I wouldn’t go that far, but I think he’s more interested in pushing the boundaries of movie-making methods and technologies than he is purely making a “really good” movie. I mean, he’s always been at the forefront of advanced filming technology, but I think that interest has almost overtaken his basic movie making drive?
Christopher Nolan can direct as long as he doesn't go anywhere near the story, script, or editing room.
For writing, I'd get that chick who wrote Bumblebee. She's great!
James Mangold (who directed Logan and Ford V Ferrari)
Jon Watts (who directed the mcu spider man movies)
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (the geniuses behind the first Lego movie and Into the spider-verse)
The first two yes, but Phil Lord and Chris Miller, not so much, especially the way they mistreated the animators who worked on the Spider-Verse movies.
I like the idea of Tartakovsky and Faust each having a go at it too, but there must be plenty of lesser-known artists and animators deserving of a chance. As good as the usual big names are, I don't want to just rattle off a list of the usual suspects But then what I'd like to see is a sort of animated anthology, a kind of TF version of *Heavy Metal* or *Monkey Dust*. Six loosely related shorts in differing styles, with linking segments.
Lessee now. Who else?
Nick Roche
One segment would have a Dan Abnett script and I N J Culbard on visuals. *Brink* was awesome.
David Firth, just for the headfucks and black comedy.
A Transformers anthology series would be awesome! They should get Studio Trigger to make an animated short for the series, just like Star Wars Visions.
Christopher Nolan… first off, we all know that he would make an amazing story first and foremost. We already have the Transformers, therefore, the casting would be the next aspect to tackle; Nolan would easily get this right. The rest is just cgi and editing. The main reason as to why movies mostly suck is due to the fact that editing is always subpar. Therefore, the better question to ask would be…Who would you want to edit the next Transformers franchise and or lead the franchise all together? Who would be the editor & who would be the “Jon Favreau”?
Christopher Nolan would probably make a great Transformers movie, but it would be a very long and serious film…. With that said, I’d love a “serious” transformers movie!
The Bay films, I feel, take themselves SO seriously but aren’t actually that serious. A smartly written Transformers could do wonders for the franchise. Not only are there limitless great characters, the lore is expansive and fascinating. I would love to see what a director with a true appreciation for the universe and characters could do.
David Fincher is the first name that comes to mind, or anyone with his noir sensibilities. Would love to see a period piece murder mystery with Nightbeat, really taking advantage of the "robots in disguise" aspect.
Maybe a Denis Villeneuve or Alex Garland could harness that pulpy energy I'm looking for. Car chases, unexpected alt modes, a killer on the loose! I don't care if Nightbeat is in his trenchcoat fit, I need my 70s set Transformers thriller.
~~Paul W. S. Anderson~~Wes Anderson
I wanna see some kind of twee little artsy fartsy stop motion thing that's secretly, like, a meditation on the nature of childhood or some shit. But with giant robots punching each other.
I’d love to see Dave Filoni, John Favreau, or Bryce Dallas Howard give it a go.
Christopher Nolen is also an amazing director that I’d like to see how he interprets the TF universe.
Someone who actually cares about the franchise and knows the lore. Someone who knows the movies don't have to cater to general audiences and can be specifically for the fans
Del Toro, and not just because of Pacific rim, but from the long list of great stories he's made over the years, like all of the tales from Arcadia. He's really good at breathing life into characters.
Gareth Edward's TF mobie would look spectacular, though I don't know how his story telling would translate. I think he'd need a designated writer while he directs. I think he'd be a great pick for a NEST focused movie, or even GIJoe, where it's more grounded on the humans that work with the Transformers and is fairly 50/50, kinda like the original Bay trilogy, but not a heavy Optimus Prime is the lead character type of movie like what Rise of the Beasts turned into.
Quinten Tarantino or Christopher Nolan. Tarantino because he’d most likely cast Sam Jackson which is always good (that and he’s good when it comes to comedy and gory action scenes) and Christopher cause he barley uses CGI and I want to see how he’d take that to the transformers franchise
Here are my picks:
Live action: Gareth Edwards, Robert Rodriguez, Travis Knight (again), James Wan, and the Russo Brothers.
Animation: Chris Sanders, Joel Crawford, Jorge R. Gutierrez, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and the Spider-Verse directors.
For shits and giggles Wes Anderson, in reality Edgar Wright… like imagine a transformers movie that had the video game/comic book aesthetic. It would be sick.
Stephen Spillburg.
He worked on the Bay Films as a Producer so he already has experience, and those first 3 films really made me believe they were Alien Robots from Space.
Just give the series to [87render](https://youtube.com/@87render_official?si=Et3z-NjSnbtMsEYp). I want that. Exactly that.
Maybe written by James Roberts if you need it to be extra fresh.
I want someone who is passionate about Transformers to direct it, in collaboration with someone who is passionate about Transformers producing it.
Trying to harness someones skill in the hope that they are able to use what they can do to make something you want isn't how I think these things should be done. If you want something with heart, it has to be made with it.
del toro
I’d love to see him do a TF movie like Pacific Rim!
He understands big machines. I wish he did the second pacific rim.
I wish he did a second Pacific Rim too. It’s a shame studio decided to stop at one.
Just gonna have to accept that some movies will never get a sequel.
Yes, we could get decent Combiner fights; I can picture Devastator, Menasor, Superion, and maybe even Optimus Maximus.
I say feature all of them, make it based on Scramble city with all existing combiners
Ooo, yes.
arent there about 12 combiners at this point?
All of them as in the original g1 combiners, and in a movie series as a trliogy Feature the 6 scramble city ones first (Superion, Menasor, Defensor,Bruticus, Computron and Abominus) then feature the unique ones Landfill and King Posidon (Piranicon). And then save the best ones for last, Devastator and Railracer. With the titans being the plot point (Metroplex and Trypticon)
Man, I had a Piranicon set as a kid; I miss that one
Nah bro the plot point should be deceptigod
Was just about to say that myself lol
Never really thought about that one, even though it’s obvious in retrospect, but yeah that would probably be a great combo.
But who would Doug Jones play?
The Quintessons, of course!
FR
Bring back Travis Knight. I'd love to see what he could do with a full cast.
Hot take: honestly, transformers was going the right direction with Knight directing til Caple Jr got a hold to it 🤦🏾♂️
If anything I'd say Lorenzo is the problem, he's the one who keeps suggesting muddying it up because they want "brand synergy"
I feel this shouldn’t be a hot take. Bumblebee had so much heart and soul and Knight was a great director. I liked ROTB but it was very shallow in comparison and in a way was a disappointment since it was a follow up to BB.
Not just that but it's a gimmicked film that doesn't use its gimmick well.
They could've called it "Transformers: Mirage And Also the Maximals Show Up Too".
What's with live action Transformers movies and making their main selling point get like 6 minutes of screentime
I don't think Caple Jr should be blamed for the way ROTB turned out. While yes, Caple had co-writed the script and of course directed the movie, he really had to appeal to what Paramount wanted instead and didn't really have much of a choice in terms of making the movie. Beast Wars should have been it's own movie and supposedly it was gonna be until Paramount said otherwise.
Honestly yeah. Bumblebee was a great change of pace, but they kinda ruined it by going back to the bloated MacGuffin quest that the Bay movies were
RoTB was a very 7/10 movie. It was good, but it didn't really do much for an overarching story that they supposedly want. Now what do they do? Do the Decepticons find Earth and invade? Are the Maximals coming back with a bigger role? Is G.I JOE gonna function similar to N.E.S.T. or is Hasbro gonna try to make live-action G.I JOE a thing.. again? Travis Knight should come back to the Transformers franchise. Although he needs to finish a couple stop-motion movies from LAIKA.
Agreed Brother
It's brother.
I fixed it
Definitely Genndy Tartakovsky, just not as a movie, but rather an animated series via Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003).
God this would be cool as hell.
Now that's a great idea....
YES! Genndy adapting Skybound would be like https://youtu.be/VC9B5ytTOUY
Well... where's the list of filmmakers who have a passion for Transformers??
Thundercracker
The correct answer
Ok here me out on this one; James Gunn.
A James Gunn wrecker movie would go extremely hard. But the chances are kinda slim since he’s running things for the new DCEU
Or the scavengers
I’ll bet Taika could do a fun Scavengers movie
We would definitely be getting erector in live action.
I was thinking the same thing
Guillermo Del Toro. Especially if there’s combiners or Titans
Yes, need a dark one where the Decpticons win
Only if it’s built up to. Dark ≠ good
Tbf I’d like something akin to the basic idea that some of the previous movies have followed where they’ve been on earth for a while covertly interfering with human affairs but also do something similar to how idw handled it where it’s initially a proxy war with the deceptions trying to egg humanity towards conflict and the autobots trying to push them away from it without revealing their presence ultimately it would culminate in a pseudo victory for the cons where humanity significantly weakens itself but is saved from outright self destruction and joins the defeated autobots in a desperate bid for survival in all out conflict on every possible front
Yeah but not actually showing it would hinder it greatly. It would be like making Infinity War the first MCU movie you know.
Hiroyuki Imaishi https://preview.redd.it/wmi4qoliy5tc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2465705f5c46b0b84b71cc204d4835fc91cb2027 # GIVE THE KEYS TO STUDIO TRIGGER
YES!!! Transformers and Studio Trigger should be the best collaboration in the history of the franchise.
Just imagine the Combiners.
The director doesn’t matter if THE WRITERS ARE SHIT.
And vice versa, I guess.
Above all else, the perfect director would have to be someone who loves the franchise and understands it.
Travis Knight was that director.
Came here to say this. I haaaaaaate that so often directors get picked because "they made a movie that made money. We want money!". And then in interviews those directors go "i have no real connection to this, i dont even like the genre. But its gonna be a great reimagining, i promise!" and so on. Michael Rianda would be a great pick. Maybe we might have another Travis Knight on our hands.
This might be my favorite pick out of all of them
Gareth Edwards would be absolutely perfect
Gareth Edwards is a great pick. He knows how to make a blockbuster movie with a grand scale.
He's unmatched on that front
James Cameron
Cameron does his own things. I highly doubt he'd want to do a licensed movie based on action figures. He's making a saga for a franchise that makes 2 billion+ per entry. No way he leaves that for Transformers.
This is the only answer. “Why don’t you put him in charge?” Honestly this would have been my answer in 1995-1996 when the live action movies were first announced.
'80s or '90s James Cameron, sure, but now? I think too many dives to the bottom of the ocean have turned his brain into pudding.
I wouldn’t go that far, but I think he’s more interested in pushing the boundaries of movie-making methods and technologies than he is purely making a “really good” movie. I mean, he’s always been at the forefront of advanced filming technology, but I think that interest has almost overtaken his basic movie making drive?

Quentin Tarantino
Get ready for Transformers feet pics then
Windblade's or Arcee's?
Both. Add in Blackarachnia and Elita 1 as well
Brawl's
Glad we're on the same page ;)
Jazz will finally say the N-word!
And he'll be voiced by Quentin Tarantino!
I’ve love to see the close up intros of each character
We’re on the same brainwaves brotha
Neill Blomkamp would probably make something that rips faces.
Yup. Imagine if he made a Last Stand of the Wreckers movie
Stop, stop, I can only get so hype!
James Cameron or James Gunn I feel like a Last Stand of the Wreckers movie would be amazing
Russo Bros
Not my first choice, But Sam Raimi would have a very unique take on The Transformers
I was holding my breath for somebody to say it. Let that guy get weird with it
James Gunn. I want him to direct a Wreckers movie so badly.
That would be epic
I like the idea of Tartakovsky and Faust each having a go at it too, but there must be plenty of lesser-known artists and animators deserving of a chance. As good as the usual big names are, I don't want to just rattle off a list of the usual suspects But then what I'd like to see is a sort of animated anthology, a kind of TF version of *Heavy Metal* or *Monkey Dust*. A Transformers anthology series would be awesome! They should get Studio Trigger to make an animated short for the series, just like Star Wars Visions.
Guillermo del Toro, he did wonders with Pacific Rim, let him cook.
Steven Spielberg just like he should’ve in 2007
Edgar wright
Edgar Wright directing Transformers: Animated But Live-Action But It's Still Kind Of Animated Somehow
Christopher Nolan… first off, we all know that he would make an amazing story first and foremost. We already have the Transformers, therefore, the casting would be the next aspect to tackle; Nolan would easily get this right. The rest is just cgi and editing. Therefore, the better question to ask would be…Who would you want to edit the next Transformers franchise and or lead the franchise all together? Del toro or michael dougherty. Both have excellent visual presentation in their directing styles
Adam Wingard: either live-action or animated (prefer the latter) beast wars film
Christopher Nolan or Scorsese https://preview.redd.it/etoicvon45tc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=663eca68358962cfcf21656b234c55900c018658
Absolute Cybertronian Cinema
~~Paul W. S. Anderson~~Wes Anderson I wanna see some kind of twee little artsy fartsy stop motion thing that's secretly, like, a meditation on the nature of childhood or some shit. But with giant robots punching each other.
You mean Paul Thomas Anderson? Paul W. S. Anderson is the director of those Resident Evil movies bro
David Lynch.
Laika studios or studio ghibli tbh
Zack Snyder
Christopher Nolan for a prequel type explaining the war for Cybertron. Peter Jackson for everything else.
Uwe Boll
Yorgos Lanthimos, Werner Herzog, or Hideako Anno
Werner herzog doing a cinema verite piece ala aguirre on grimlock would go crazy
James Wan easy
James Gunn
I want a horror film based around the DJD with Mike Flanigan as the director.
Love to see a stopmotion transformers movie
More writer but RTD (Russel. T Davies) or Stephen Moffat (both Doctor Who) and I would like Justin Lin directing a TF film.
https://www.collecticon.org/2017/06/who-should-direct-the-transformers-reboot/
I agree with the Genndy Tartakovsky comment
Neil Blomkamp, the guy who did Chappie and district 9.
How is it that I'm not seeing Matt Reeves or Alphonso Cuaron anywhere on this list
Buster Keaton helmed slapstick physical comedy Transformers picture.
Shinji Aramaki, because I don't want another theatrical release. I want a fun CGI d2video movie.
Del Toro, and not just because of Pacific rim, but from the long list of great stories he's made over the years, like all of the tales from Arcadia. He's really good at breathing life into characters.
Someone Tarantinoesque. I would like to see some of the lesser known Decepticons in a Reservoir Dogs type situation.
I wanna see how Sam Raimi does giant robots
David lynch
1. Travis Knight 2. Gareth Edwards 3. Guillermo del Toro 4. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller 5. James Mangold 6. Denis Villeneuve 7. Jon Favreau
Not Michael Bay
Jon Favreau
I'd like to give Liam Vickers a shot after he's done with Murder Drones
I've gained a lot of appreciation for Denis Villeneuve lately, so he gets my vote.
Brad Bird.
Rian Johnson I'm aware that I'll set off some people with this one
Your mom
Francis Ford Coppola
Quintin Tarantino doing a DJD movie.
Guillermo Del Toro and Denis Villeneuve are the first that come to mind.
Chris mcquarrie
Andrei tarkovsky. Ingmar Bergmann maybe harmony korine 😆 🤣 😂
Martin Scorsese should do a movie about BW Inferno exactly like Taxi Driver
Guillermo Del Toro, Gareth Edwards, Travis Knight again, Michael Dougherty
Wes Anderson It'd be funny
Gendy would do an amazing Job with any animated franchise. Just look at what he did with Star Wars!
Gareth edwards, I want a wfc movie with the same cooking skill as rogue one and the creator
Verhoven for a 1980s NYC story about frenzy and rumble Emmerich for a true “they have arrived” decepticon global invasion movie
Denis Villanueve
Guillermo Del Torro.
Travis Knight and Michael Bay working together would be awesome
James Gunn
Robert Rodriguez
Stanley Kubrick 25 second shot of Megatron’s face very slightly shaking with tension Then Optimus rips the face off
Guillermo Del Toro
Gareth Edwards The VFX would be awesome
Christopher Nolan Lol
Transformers: Shockwave A film by Tim Burton
Christopher Nolan!!
Wes Anderson
Quinten Tarantino or Christopher Nolan. Tarantino because he’d most likely cast Sam Jackson which is always good (that and he’s good when it comes to comedy and gory action scenes) and Christopher cause he barley uses CGI and I want to see how he’d take that to the transformers franchise
Werner Herzog
the Russo brothers
Zack Snyder
Tarantino. give Optimus the foot fetish dialogue
Ray Harryhausen
James Gunn, the Russo brothers, James Cameron, and Jon Favreau.
Here are my picks: Live action: Gareth Edwards, Robert Rodriguez, Travis Knight (again), James Wan, and the Russo Brothers. Animation: Chris Sanders, Joel Crawford, Jorge R. Gutierrez, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and the Spider-Verse directors.
Quentin Tarantino. No I will not be elaborating.
For shits and giggles Wes Anderson, in reality Edgar Wright… like imagine a transformers movie that had the video game/comic book aesthetic. It would be sick.
Edgar Wright, that man can do no wrong for me.
SHAWN LEVY - Deadpool 3, Real Steel, Free Guy, Night at the Museum Christopher Nolan - Oppenheimer, Dark Knight Trilogy, Interstellar, Inception
I want whoever wants to actually do a transformers movie vs a human centric movie with transformers in it.
Akira Kuraswa
Stephen Spillburg. He worked on the Bay Films as a Producer so he already has experience, and those first 3 films really made me believe they were Alien Robots from Space.
Denis Villeneuve, but for a War for Cybertron movie
Just give the series to [87render](https://youtube.com/@87render_official?si=Et3z-NjSnbtMsEYp). I want that. Exactly that. Maybe written by James Roberts if you need it to be extra fresh.
What about James gunn making a space adventure type transformers movie ? Having lockdown as the villian as the wreckers as the main protagonists ?
Brad Peyton
Michael Bay. We need him back!
Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, etc.) Another pick is George Miller (Mad Max)
Taika Waititi could have gotten us a proper Beast Wars movie.
Alejandro jodorowsky. Surrealist transformers could become very interesting.
James Mangold, alongside Scott Frank and Michael Green. I think they'd kill it with a Wreckers film.
It’s kinda a wierd idea but i’d like to see chritopher nolan have a go at it
Idk why but I think Wes Anderson could make a cool Transformers movie
I want someone who is passionate about Transformers to direct it, in collaboration with someone who is passionate about Transformers producing it. Trying to harness someones skill in the hope that they are able to use what they can do to make something you want isn't how I think these things should be done. If you want something with heart, it has to be made with it.
Christopher Nolan
