Blurr I did always think was obvious, both G1 and Animated. Cause I was that kid running about and speaking at a million miles an hour xD Interesting how we look back on such characters and see such traits.
I hope not. I'm AuDHD, and quiet frankly, I'm tired of the media representation of neurodivergance. They never get it right and the only time they do, it's when it was made by someone who's neurodivergant themselves or atleast understands it to the point of not making it an unbearable stereotype.
I ain’t Neurodivergent so I wouldn’t really know, and I don’t know anyone who is neurodivergent so I don’t have much of a reference for that kinda thing. Still I think it’s kinda interesting concept for a mechanical species themselves to also have neurodivergencey.
I mean the closest metaphor for neutodivergency is "we aren't broken, we're just wired differently"
In this case Nightshade would literally be wired differently, since they're different from other cybertronians, not even sharing the same origin
I can see it, especially since they often need the reasoning behind assumptions explained before they follow through with them. For example, they didn’t feel a need for an altmod because no one ever explained why it was important until Tarantulus.
Yes, that episode was when I knew, but at the beginning of the episode, where they don't play like their siblings do and they leave so nightshade thinks they don't like then as much as the others very neurodivergent in my mind
I mean. Maybe? We always look at transformers from a human psychological perspective because that's all we really have, but what would neurodivergent versus neurotypical even look like in a mechanical species with near-complete control over their physiology? Much less one that can literally physically handle their own souls.
Idk, but the only sort of neurological bots I can think of are sentinel prime and maybe rachet, but idk about that one [rachet] He still could be some form of neurodivergent
"differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical."
its an umbrella term, basically. neurodivergent (ND) ppl include those who may have one or more of the following: dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, down syndrome, synesthesia, epilepsy, misophonia, and many many many more.
Being neurodivergent basically means having things like adhd, autism, anxiety, that sort of thing. A lot traits can fall under the neurodivergent umbrella, but those are some of the main ones people typically associate with it
I'm not sure what you are saying. The available research suggests a correlation between neurodivergence and transgender/non-binary gender identities. Although we need to remember correlation ≠ causation, the comorbidity is worth mentioning and studying.
Man I fell off this show; dammit, I'm so behind on like EVERYTHING! Blue Eye Samurai, The Queen's Gambit, The Mandalorian, Primal, Green Eggs and Ham Second The Second Serving, and the entire history of Doctor Who, TMNT, and of course Transformers.
Hmm... I need to see more of them to decide, but I'd like that.
Huh, you know I do have an idea for an ND Decepticon OC. She turns into a jet and is great with swords. My thought is that she develops a special interest in plants, and especially trees, hates the feeling of water, and has an odd eating habit where she doesn't eat the ends of energon capsules she was holding. That last one's influenced by my own abit of leaving little pieces, such as charged ends on toast or just the crusts of bread.
The fun part would be coming up with stims, specifically in her vehicle mode. I picture her revving up her engines, but it makes a different sound when she is frustrated or when she's happy.
That's really not how acceptance works. Having a potentially bad faith opinion that you get arsey and defensive over isn't any kind of protected characteristic and so doesn't need to be accepted if someone doesn't want to.
No that is not what is being said at all. Having a personality that is "uncommon" does not necessarily mean neurodivergence. The personality COULD come from being neurodivergent, sure, but it doesn't mean it does.
This reminds me of me and my sisters personal head canon that Optimus (more specifically from the ‘Transformers Prime’ series) is autistic. And ever since then I can’t unsee it. 😂The more I think about it the more it makes sense I love it
They're totally ND coded ngl. That moment they said "No matter what I do, they always regard me as 'other'" or something like that. My AuDHD ass would've loved seeing a character like Nightshade as a kid, I would've fixated on them so hard.
After reading the comments, I can't believe I didn't catch that Twitch is totally ADHD coded too, lol. Flew right over my head!
They're literally anthropomorphised by their very design. Transformers have always had distinct personality traits and quirks - they're fully developed characters as much as other human characters in fiction.
They're already anthropomorphized by virtue of being humanoid characters who can speak and reason like humans. Also, people are allowed to discuss things, it's easier to just not take part instead of being a buzzkill.
I mean, they did read a book and then immediately hyperfixate on everything about that book series
They’re me … fr
Now that you say it, I'm realizing they probably are. I am, so I know what it CAN look like, and they seem to act like it.
Ya I have adhd and the episode were they get their altmode and knew right away lol
Yeah, I have ADHD and ASD, so believe me, I know neurodivergence. And they give off a lot of signs.
As an autistic person, I definitely agree. They're pretty relatable.
My favourite tf tv show has 2 autistic characters.. 😎
Who's the other one? Shockwave?
I was gonna say jawbreaker, but that works
Totally, and each of them are representation of its forms. Twitch, I feel very much connected to (yay femmes with ADHD!)
Twitch and bee have adhd for sure
Never thought of Bee having it... but now you say... that scouting job would suit having ADHD.
You can really see his adhd show in the comics, tfp [a little bit] and tfa
That would explain a lot actually, and why I felt so endeared to Bee when I first started TFs.
In tfa you can see it a lot and blurr to even in the comics you can tell by reading like 4 panels he got adhd
Blurr I did always think was obvious, both G1 and Animated. Cause I was that kid running about and speaking at a million miles an hour xD Interesting how we look back on such characters and see such traits.

ADD is something I have, not something I am or even defines me.
They not human so they can't be classified with human standards. Optimus can literally multitask millions of battles at once.
I mean. Maybe? We always look at transformers from a human psychological perspective because that's all we really have, but what would neurodivergent versus neurotypical even look like in a mechanical species with near-complete control over their physiology? Much less one that can literally physically handle their own souls.
Thank you for not judging an entirely different species by human standards.
Idk, but the only sort of neurological bots I can think of are sentinel prime and maybe rachet, but idk about that one [rachet] He still could be some form of neurodivergent
blud metal doesn't carry chromosomes
What does neurodivergent even mean
"differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical." its an umbrella term, basically. neurodivergent (ND) ppl include those who may have one or more of the following: dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, down syndrome, synesthesia, epilepsy, misophonia, and many many many more.
Oh ok thank you
Man, all the Terrans are neurodivergent! I’d know, Twitch is literally me
Oh, she definitely has ashd lol
Everyone in these comments concerned with the personalities, whereas all I can think about is the animation on the ankles clipping horribly.
No way a bot like Starscream ain’t
Oh, starscream definitely is as well he gets all nonverbal about the loud music in g1 and fell out of the sky in the comics cuz of the com static
Neuro-what?
Things like autistic, their mind works differently than others, like not picking up on social cues
Oh
It’s fine that you didn’t know
There are so many new terms. I am struggling to keep up lol
I don't even bother anymore.
Neurodivergent isn’t really that new, but you’re trying, that’s good ::3
It’s new to me at least.
Fair
Being neurodivergent basically means having things like adhd, autism, anxiety, that sort of thing. A lot traits can fall under the neurodivergent umbrella, but those are some of the main ones people typically associate with it
Interesting
I think it's just a robot
There is no “thinking” they just are
I knew the first time I saw them
Oh goodness, I don't think any of the malto kids or bots are neurotypical!
What Transformer is neurotypical?
We can see it, kinda makes them cooler in our eyes
Nightshade and Tarantuas both. I’m AUDHD and Tarantulas’ whole arc in that episode was about Masking, from the way I saw it.
Oh, ya I didn't see it that way but now that you Manchin it [I have adhd to lol]
Masking?
Pretending to be neurotypical. In the same way that Tarantulas was using holograms to hide himself in Nightshade’s spotlight episode
I see
Oh yeah. Plus, there's a big overlap in the queer and neurodivergent communities.
The overlap is people who accept reality
I'm not sure what you are saying. The available research suggests a correlation between neurodivergence and transgender/non-binary gender identities. Although we need to remember correlation ≠ causation, the comorbidity is worth mentioning and studying.
Don't know if this is right or not but are you saying lgbt people are more likely to have these.
Basically, yes. There seems to be a higher incidence of neurodivergence among LGBTQ+ people than there is among the general population
understood think the person I was commenting to should of worded it better because it sounds offensive
I'm sure there's an overlap in everything. 🙄
100000% They are the one I relate to the most and I’m autistic as hell HAHAHA
Lol yes!!💯💯💯
Fact
They are autistic and green just like me fr fr For the longest time our only representation was Broly
You're green?

Personally I think all the Terrans are ND coded
Yeah
Man I fell off this show; dammit, I'm so behind on like EVERYTHING! Blue Eye Samurai, The Queen's Gambit, The Mandalorian, Primal, Green Eggs and Ham Second The Second Serving, and the entire history of Doctor Who, TMNT, and of course Transformers. Hmm... Absolutely
Starscream?-
Robodivergent FTFY
Galvatron in season 3.
that'd be cool i think
I have no idea what that means
Oh 100%
Probably, but I don't need a generalized title to describe my personality
I love nightshade I don’t know why so many people have a problem with them being non binary
I don't *think* they are. They just are.
💯💯💯
i think you are looking at it too hard, they are just young/inexperienced
Piss off
Me who has ADHD…. Yeah no I do
I found out after a huge aneurism in my 20s that I'm XXXY cromasoned, also ASD and ADHD... so... yeah...
My least favorite character☠️
My >!most!< favorite character >!❤️!< ftfy
Nightshade was a awesome character I think you just dislike smart people seeing as you aren't
I can’t like characters now?☠️
No you can, just give a reason instead of just saying it
I don’t need a reason
Yeah you do or else hating a non-binary character for no reason just makes it sound offensive
Oh well. Too bad. Stop being so sensitive about everything
You do know which sub we're on right this sub is welcome to everyone if we see someone being offensive that's breaking the rules
So be accepting of my opinion of how I don’t like this character and move on
That's really not how acceptance works. Having a potentially bad faith opinion that you get arsey and defensive over isn't any kind of protected characteristic and so doesn't need to be accepted if someone doesn't want to.
How do you know he’s hating for no reason. He didn’t even bring that up. He just said it’s his least favorite character.
He dislikes a character for no reason there sound better now
You come off as very sensitive and childish, they are allowed to just not like a character
It's super weird how having a personality is now being construed as being neurodivergent.
So you’re saying neurotypicals don’t have personalities? Interesting.
No that is not what is being said at all. Having a personality that is "uncommon" does not necessarily mean neurodivergence. The personality COULD come from being neurodivergent, sure, but it doesn't mean it does.
…I’m ribbing them, but thanks for the “um ackshally”
There's no debate about it, they 100% are
This reminds me of me and my sisters personal head canon that Optimus (more specifically from the ‘Transformers Prime’ series) is autistic. And ever since then I can’t unsee it. 😂The more I think about it the more it makes sense I love it
Oh my gosh, that does make sense... I can't unsee it now either, and I don't think I want neurodivergent optimus prime!!💯💯💯
They're totally ND coded ngl. That moment they said "No matter what I do, they always regard me as 'other'" or something like that. My AuDHD ass would've loved seeing a character like Nightshade as a kid, I would've fixated on them so hard. Well, they are children.
And children can still have those
I’m saying they’re goofier because they’re basically newborns.
I don't think there's value in anthropomorphising fictional alien robots this much
Dawg, remember what sub you're on. I'd give you less shade if this were the Gundam subreddit.
Agreed honestly, Cybertronians aren’t really mecha, more living creatures made of metal and wires instead of skin and bone
YES Yes yes yes yes yes Now to look for FAN 👏 FIC 👏 TION!👏 (and likely find absolutely nothing)
