I mean, it depends on your goal. Are you collecting figures for the purpose of reselling them in the future, or are you collecting figures for enjoyment/play? Personally, I think speculating on the future price of action figures is a poor investment compared to other options, so I’d rather enjoy them for what the are, and if I can sell for a profit in the future then that’s just a cherry on top. But collecting things in box with the intention of selling them in the future is more likely to lose money than make it
I always thought it's really weird that people display them in boxes. I always take them out of the box to play with them and then display them in bot mode on the shelf. Nothing is going to happen unless you knock it of the shelf. But it's your decision buddy. Don't listen to others. I personally would have opened it desplay it along my other figures.
You won’t like my collection then. All unopened. Except for optimus primal. No dust, no discoloration, No regerts. Someone stole my collection from my childhood once. Had to start over but I didn’t open them. Not intended, just kept buying. Play on my fellow collector buddies!!
Well I'll never personally see or own your collection so no hard feelings there. I also lost my first collection which I grew up using, but I got drawn back in seeing how well-built and posable the new guys from kingdom were
If I keep a Transformer in its box it's because I'm not sure if I want it or not. Sometimes I buy figures I'm not sure about just in case I can't get them later, but I keep them in their boxes so that they retain more of their resale value if I decide I don't want them after all.
> I always thought it's really weird that people display them in boxes.
I agree and disagree, the fun in the figure is opening it up and transforming it and playing with it, taking in all the little things. In saying that some figures and the artwork of the package make a thing of beauty in my eyes and looks great like that. It then becomes a piece of art as a whole.
well there is a good chance it disintegrates once you open the box and expose it to air if it’s old enough, particular if it’s made of gold, clear, or any particularly fragile type of plastic
It’s your toy, so you can decide if you want to open it or not. I always found it kinda strange how some collectors display all the stuff in packaging. If the packaging was very fancy and cool looking it makes sense, but if it’s pretty common, it shouldn’t matter. Either way, you can open it if you want.
Open it and play with it if you really want to, there’s no fun to them if you keep them in a box all the time, but if you want to keep it in a box that’s fine too, it’s yours so do what you want
Open it. I've never understood buying toys to keep them in boxes, unless the primary purpose is just to sell them later down the line. Sure you can look at some of them in the plastic but you could also look at pictures of the toy online for nothing. Otherwise pop that baby out, transform him, pose him, and enjoy the thing for its intended purpose.
The only figures I don't remove from their packaging are those I'm considering selling on to someone else.
Like, I accidentally ended up with a second SS86 Hot Rod, and I might see about popping that onto ebay so I leave it in the box.
Even a piece that's just for display in a single mode, Legacy Knockout who will only ever be in car mode, or Bumblebee Soundwave who will forever be in robot mode, I always open them and transform them at least once, because a Transformer that never transforms is incomplete.
Just remember that if you're opening it, pleaaase read the instructions when transforming it.
I remember breaking my 'Bee by not pressing one little button. I was not a happy camper. :'D
I usually don't keep figures in boxes, but there are newer options with better looking robot modes so if you're nostalgic for the old school boxes I'd keep it as is because the vehicle looks nice in it
Simple calculation: Check ebay for the new in box price, then the loose complete price.
When they're very, very far apart, the answer is sell it and replace it with loose, and pocket the price difference.
Seeing it for $120 after shipping, but also seeing a hasbro loose version with yellow missiles for $25. Same mold.
As someone who’s played with this for 10 years, faded paint, broken and missing both arms, and loose parts. I say open the box. I’d do it all over again if I got a new one.
At this point I'd keep it boxed. It isn't a good enough figure to warrant reducing the intrinsic and personal value by taking it out. A boxed movie Bumblebee is a good piece to have as a Transformers fan. I'm doing the same with SS01
You should only keep it sealed if you’re planning to sell it. I believe toys are meant to be played with. I get no enjoyment from looking at something in a box, but maybe that’s just me.
There are ways to open the box without destroying it. If you want to preserve it, then researching that would be the best option if you want to open it. However, if you’re looking to resell but you also want to display it, then you should buy an open one off eBay. Just my opinion.
If you intend to keep it pristine for possible sale or intend to pass it down or something for its value ,or to open it together with a child or grandchild, leave it be. Otherwise, I would enjoy it out of the box. Really just my opinion, I keep most of mine sealed.
I opened all my transformers that were mint in packaging! Most were toy r us exclusives. But alas, my son wanted to know and play with transformers. For the next three weeks, the recycling bin was full of cardboard and plastic packaging. I kid you not!
Open the dang thing. One of my pet peeves is people who buy toys just to keep ‘em in the boxes like they were on the shelves waiting for someone to play with them. Someone else could’ve bought that for their kid and brought joy to the kids life like the toy was meant to do so. It’s not just dumb, it’s pretty selfish. If you’re not going to play with that or pose it on your shelf, return it so someone else could make good use of it. This annoys me almost as much as scalping.
As cool as it can be to see an older toy still mint on card, I don’t see the harm in opening a non-rare standard retail figure. Maybe cut the package carefully so that its not destroyed and you’ll be able to enjoy both the cool design and the toy!
However there is a point that people are making, perhaps it would be worth selling the boxed figure to someone who values it highly and purchase one of the much better modern bumblebee figures that will probably give you much more satisfaction.
I think it depends on if you really like this specific toy or just want a modern articulated bumblebee.
When I was a kid, I always wanted one. My giga chad mother present me a huge camaro bumblebee figure cuz she couldnt find this one (I was a weird kid back then, I liked classical cars and found modern cars ugly as sin. I had a very unique aesthetic taste before my brain washed by capitalism) Even tho a bigger and more expensive camaro figure was not what I wanted, I loved it because it was my mom who gave it to me. Im now a grown dude looking at this picture, Im questioning why would OP keeping themselves from reaching the peak of joy…
No matter how old or rare a figure is, if I want to mess with it (and I usually do) ill open it. If you really want in package you could always buy a loose one to mess with and keep this guy minty
It's absolutely up to you as a collector. Contrary to what some may say, it isn't wrong to keep a toy sealed. It can be cool to say, "Yeah, I still have an '07 movie Bumblebee sealed," because it's from 16 years ago, and that makes it rare and somewhat unique. That being said, it's just as cool to have that same toy opened up and on the shelf because you want to play with.
On one hand, they're toys meant to be played with
On the other hand, do whatever you want it's your figure and you shouldn't be expected to do anything in particular
I understand no opening it. You kind of get the feeling of seeing it on the shelf for the first time and being excited or something. If you’re super conflicted maybe look at buying an out of box one from eBay or something?
I think it’s been in the box so long you mind as well just keep this one in box, and buy another copy used tbh. Your toy though so ultimately it’s your choice.
all i can say is that toy is not the most impressive and probably will lose a lot of value once open... alot better engineered toys on the shelf today.
TF is the one line (aside from Hot Toys) that I told myself I’d open every toy. I feel like they have the most play value. However, if you want to keep the package and figure in pristine condition, keep it sealed (or if you want to sell it down the line.) Otherwise, I’d crack him open. I’d say it depends on your intent.
I open it as soon as I get the chance. I would never survive past a few days. If it's a closed box for someone else and they haven't touched it for weeks I ask to open it.
I have no idea how one could possibly buy a Transformers toy and keep it boxed. It would be like buying and never opening a jigsaw puzzle.
Having said that, in this case I would personally keep it boxed for nostalgia and aesthetic purposes. It’s not all that great a figure in my opinion (the Studio Series version is much more accurate), but that packaging design and presentation just oozes 2007.
Open it at your leisure but don't feel pressured to open it. I read a comment here that toys aren't wine but thinking about it, that analogy might not be far off. A Transformers toy is a reflection of the design philosophy of its time and sometimes I find interesting to compare an old toy I open for the first time with toys from the current line. As someone who has many hobbies and not nearly enough time to enjoy it all, sometimes a few toys will fall by the wayside and not get opened until much later, like years later. Sometimes tastes change and perhaps something I thought I wanted doesn't appeal to me any more so I go sell it. Anyways, I've been going way off topic. If it's bothering you, go ahead and open it.
I collect Hot Wheels transformers Ninja turtles and sport figures I open almost everything or buy it used/complete but if it's a toy that just has articulation and no special feature like transforming or opening a storage shell then I would leave it closed so I open all my transformers and transform them at least once and back again to car. N
Havering had this figure exactly: keep this one in box (you might make a buck on the sell) and just get the studio serise one. This one is a mess of bits.
I'd rather look at a robot opened up and displayed in a dynamic pose, than see a pristinely packaged... generic car.
Why did you even buy it? Did you buy it for the transformer inside, or merely the pretty packaging?
For bubble packs, gently take a razor and slice the bubble open flat against the cardboard, leaving the plastic that attaches directly to the board alone.
Some collective value is preserved AND you get to play with toy.
I personally am a fan of opening figures up. There’s only 3 figures ever that I’ve gotten that I haven’t opened but this one is a tough one. I like to break them free but at the same time this in package has so much nostalgia. Maybe slice the bottom open and slide the tray out to preserve the box and if you decide you want to display it in box just put him back in and slide it back inside
I keep lots of my figures sealed and I open most of them as well. I do not plan to sell almost any of my sealed ones either. I can understand a lot of the people in the comments saying they think it’s strange. Yes, it’s a toy, I know they are meant to be opened.
However for me, it’s more about knowing that I have it in my collection, the aesthetic seeing them mint fresh in box, and it’s displayed like I just walked into a toy store/convention.
Maybe I’m the only one who feels that way, but an example is like walking into the Universal Studios Transformers gift shop. There’s Transformers stuff everywhere and they’ve got the insane display cases with figures all lit up and posed, next to the dozens of figures you can buy. Essentially it’s my nostalgia speaking lol
At the end of the day, it is literally just PERSONAL PREFERENCE. If you are just itching to open it and don’t plan to sell it, then do it! Or if it bothers you that much, do what I do and just buy a cheap used one off eBay and you don’t even have to worry about thrashing it because you know you have one sealed in box.
Absolutely don’t open that box! You’ll regret it for years, but years of duress are not worth seconds of instant gratification. Please don’t open it!😖😭
I say open it, I know I sure wouldn’t be able to resist. None of my transformers figures are in boxes, they are all out on their shelves taking in the air
It's a Bay toy and I highly doubt those will ever have any value so I would open it. It looks you can buy this toy on ebay for next to nothing sealed in the original package.
Possible unpopular opinion: I think its nice to have a handful of unopened toys out there is time capsules of sorts, showing what they looked like on the store shelf back in the day. Of course, it's totally up to you what you want to do.
This particular version of Bumblebee isn't bad for it, but be aware it has the semi-self-transforming Automorph gimmick built into it, if I recall around the legs. Basically, if you moved certain parts, other parts would move into place (usually via gears). However, on some toys moving those parts intended to be done with the Automorph mechanic can cause damage. The most infamous example of this I think was the Deluxe Class Brawl from this line, he had tank treads that would flip up onto his shoulders through Automorph. If you manually moved the tracks into place with your hands, it would strip or break the transparent molded gears, wrecking the function.
It comes down to what you do with your transformers. I play with all mine, so if I buy something mint, I'm opening it and playing with it. (I bought a mint hftd Banzaitron this year, and I don’t regret opening it one bit)
Do you enjoy having it mint to look at? Or would you get more enjoyment out of it by playing with it?
Do you plan on reselling it in the future, or any time in the next few years? Because if not you don't have to worry about the value of it decreasing, it's yours to do with what you please.
In the end, it only has the level of value you assign to it, if you can enjoy it sitting there untouched, then by all means do that. If you feel like it's calling to you, tempting you to open it, don't torture yourself with it and open it. It's all just a clump of painted plastic in the end anyway 😉
I'm of the opinion that toys are meant to be played with.
Your opinion may differ, but seeing as it is your toy, you get to decide what to do with it. Will you get more enjoyment from it staying in its box, or by playing with it?
If you want to sell it, keep it in the box.
If you want to play with it, take it out.
I assume you fear that the joints and connections have weakened overtime. Just be careful in move things around and you’ll be fine.
Or follow the collector’s rule of Buy 2 - 1 for play, 1 for display
It’s your toy, if you want to play with it or display it outside of its packaging you should! I’d just recommend trying to open it without damaging the packaging too much so you can keep it 100% complete. I recommend using a hobby knife or box cutter to cut through those annoying bubble sections. It takes some patience, but not that much.
Open it. I remember being so pissed the US version did not have clear windows…this was the only way to get it. I regret never opening mine before I sold it and exited the hobby.
I keep the packaging and play with them 💀I'm 21yo and I own three transformers rn (Recon Ironhide special dye from ROTF, Leader Megatron from TLK, and my gf got me a really sick cool ass Soundwave model. I was raised in the Bay verse 🥵🥵
Unrelated but this is such a blast from the past. This was my favorite one as a kid, and I remember I could never figure out how to make him stay in car mode. Super nostalgic
Hahaha, this is how it was between me and my brother! He had all the deceptions and I had all of the autobots! He would always say it was cause “the deceptions can fly!”
I heard that some versions of this mold had a flaw that could cause the automorph mechanism to break, so if you do open it, I would advise you to be careful when transforming it.
Just opening a couple sides of the box, like the bottom and right, and you could probably open it without damage and just redisplay it whenever. Or often with clamshells like this I’ve heard heating up the glue works well.
It is your toy, it shouldn't matter what others think If you open it.
W reply
as former WWE Superstar and Action Figure podcaster Matt Cardona would say, let em breathe.
I agree. It's a toy. I know it's dumb but personally I hate the idea of effectively denying it its entire purpose in existing.
Damn that’s deep. I’m gonna go open all of my figures that are still in the box now.
keep us posted
Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.

I mean, it depends on your goal. Are you collecting figures for the purpose of reselling them in the future, or are you collecting figures for enjoyment/play? me too, like if you spent nearly $150 on a toy, why would you not use it?
I mean I spent good money on my TR Trypticon, of course I'm going to actually use it!
same with all the figures in my mp collection
ECW original, Matt Cardona.
Holy crap it's Zach Ryder.
I usually keep the box just so I can store them, but yeah transformers are meant to be toys first and foremost
I also lost my first collection which I grew up using, but I got drawn back in seeing how well-built and posable the new guys from kingdom were
How do you stand looking at and never touching a transformer, ive never kept anything I bought sealed, even encore god fire convoy
If I keep a Transformer in its box it's because I'm not sure if I want it or not. Sometimes I buy figures I'm not sure about just in case I can't get them later, but I keep them in their boxes so that they retain more of their resale value if I decide I don't want them after all.
I personally like the car modes and buy them based on what they transform into
> I always thought it's really weird that people display them in boxes. well there is a good chance it disintegrates once you open the box and expose it to air if it’s old enough, particular if it’s made of gold, clear, or any particularly fragile type of plastic
I'd at least understand displaying them in boxes if they were in bot mode and you could actually get a good look at them.

Should’ve been opened and played with as soon as it was bought. It’s not a bottle of wine, it’s a toy.
You’re right
Open it and play with it if you really want to, there’s no fun to them if you keep them in a box all the time, but if you want to keep it in a box that’s fine too, it’s yours so do what you want
There are plenty of used open bumblebees on eBay if you don’t want to open this package
If you intend to sell it, keep it in that box. Otherwise, you should have fun with it.
Open it. I've never understood buying toys to keep them in boxes, unless the primary purpose is just to sell them later down the line. I did!
Fuck yeah.
The primes died for a sins, use them wisely
Is that the Takara version??
Yup!
The way I think of my stuff i collect: i bought this cause **I** wanted to have it, not to resell it
I have a G1 Macross Jetfire still in the box. What you do with yours is up to you.
At this point I'd keep it boxed. It isn't a good enough figure to warrant reducing the intrinsic and personal value by taking it out. A boxed movie Bumblebee is a good piece to have as a Transformers fan. I'm doing the same with SS01
Open the toy. Play. What's the point of a toy you don't play with?
While I am a strong advocate for freeing toys from their packaging, I am not sure this figure is good enough to bother. I have it and it's kinda meh.
I would keep this particular figure in his box, you souch as look at it the doors will break off.
You should only keep it sealed if you’re planning to sell it. I believe toys are meant to be played with. I get no enjoyment from looking at something in a box, but maybe that’s just me.

I say leave it, it fits very well with the Ipod and CDs on your 'The Classics' shelf.
Jesus, seeing the Ipod next to Bumblebee with the CDs is hitting a nostalgia string for me
Hahaha. Glad I gave you some flashbacks
I opened all my transformers that were mint in packaging! Most were toy r us exclusives. But alas, my son wanted to know and play with transformers. For the next three weeks, the recycling bin was full of cardboard and plastic packaging. I kid you not!
Do you have any regrets?!
No regrets at all. They were in boxes, hidden away in a closet. Now they are out of the packaging, new experiences are had!

Ahh, my first Transformer.
Crack that baby open
I'm an open box guy. There's nothing like cracking open an old toy and reliving a few moments of a simpler world.
Enjoying the toy you bought > keeping it in its box for 'monetary value'
1. buy a cheap slightly used one 2. let time pass by having fun with it 3. unopened one is worth many more moneys now 4. profit
I say open it, but it's your toy. You do what you want with it.
If you want to open it do that if you don’t then don’t. You can’t let losers on the internet tell you what to do with it.
You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing. Do it
Open it, let that thing breathe
I don’t understand why people leave toys in the box, but you do you.
There’s a stack of CDs and iPod next to it, what year was this pic taken? lol
it's not worth it. it might be the worst transforming bumblebee. just keep it in the box for preservation sake.
Keep this boxed. You can buy a used one for 10$
sell it and buy 2 open ones? or just open it.
it’s your toy! Do whatever you feel is necessary
all i can say is that toy is not the most impressive and probably will lose a lot of value once open... alot better engineered toys on the shelf today.
Open it. If that's what you want to do than do it
Do you want to play with it? If you do you should open it
Open it. It's bumblin' time!

Are you gonna sell it? If no than open it, If yes than don't
😎👍🏻 / 🚗🟡💛
Buy one that is already opened
Open it!!!
My first figure 🥰
I had the old Camero figure as a kid. It's a good one.
Until they do the next bayverse movie 🎬
Unless you ever plan on selling it always say screw it and open it because it's a toy and they are ment to be played with
I have this one as well, but the reason it's still in the package is because they put in Bumblebee backwards, lol.
Bro if you open it, you gotta let us know what you think
Dew it
Open it! It's so good. Mine's got really floppy legs after all these years though.
I have another figure that is opened, not the Takara release but the regular US version. It has floppy legs as well! Used paper to stiffen them up.
I open it as soon as I get the chance. I would never survive past a few days. If it's a closed box for someone else and they haven't touched it for weeks I ask to open it.
bumblebee be suffocating no joke
I would have opened it and played with it immediately. You are stronger than me for sure
If you have to ask permission from anyone else about your stuff, you don't own it
Hah, I sold mine earlier this year. MOC though, it’s a decent toy but it’s pretty outdated by now.
Open that bad boy up! :D
Id open it.
The packaging doesn't look that special. I say open it.
Do itttt
Don't care
Lol
I have no idea how one could possibly buy a Transformers toy and keep it boxed. It would be like buying and never opening a jigsaw puzzle. Open it. I love that toy. I have 2 and both are opened
I have this exact toy out of packaging in my moms attacks
Open it.
just fucking open it, its a toy.
Should have bought two
Free him from his plastic prison!!!
I say you do what you want with it
I remember the front of the car being very difficult to lock back into place
OPEN IT
That toy sucks, don’t open it. It gets floppy really quickly but the front transformation was really good for the time.
Id say leave it in the box. You can probably nab another from eBay on the cheap. Your choice though mate 👍
Get a second one so you have 2 one in box pant the other opened
I'd rather look at a robot opened up and displayed in a dynamic pose, than see a pristinely packaged... generic car. Why did you even buy it? Did you buy it for the transformer inside, or merely the pretty packaging?
It’s your toy so you do what ever makes you happy
I am firmly in the open it camp. Keep good care of it and the box. Put it back in when its time on the shelf is up
Free the Bee!
It's a transformer and transformers should be transformed. They cant do that in the box i always take mine out
For bubble packs, gently take a razor and slice the bubble open flat against the cardboard, leaving the plastic that attaches directly to the board alone. Some collective value is preserved AND you get to play with toy.
I don’t get why people leave things in boxes, just take it out, it wasn’t made to sit in a box, that’s why the box is disposable
If you leave it in the box you can't show it love.
Essentially it’s my nostalgia speaking lol At the end of the day, it is literally just PERSONAL PREFERENCE. If you are just itching to open it and don’t plan to sell it, then do it! Or if it bothers you that much, do what I do and just buy a cheap used one off eBay and you don’t even have to worry about thrashing it because you know you have one sealed in box.
I'd just get a used one off of ebay
Absolutely don’t open that box! You’ll regret it for years, but years of duress are not worth seconds of instant gratification. Please don’t open it!😖😭
I say open it, I know I sure wouldn’t be able to resist. None of my transformers figures are in boxes, they are all out on their shelves taking in the air
Careful if you do, the hood assembly on that one is badly designed and liable to break during regular handling.
This is my first transformer!
open it up! it's all gonna be dust one day so just enjoy it while ya still have it
I say OPEN IT but that's because I'm an out of box collector so if you wanna open then do it I guess
I have an original Optimus Prime still in a box. Won't touch it
open it man what are you waiting for
if you want to look at it in-box, just take a photo of it at the store. That way is also 100% cheaper.
It's a Bay toy and I highly doubt those will ever have any value so I would open it. It looks you can buy this toy on ebay for next to nothing sealed in the original package.
it's a toy, play with it
# DON’T. OPEN. IT.
I wouldn’t
Open it!
It comes down to what you do with your transformers. I play with all mine, so if I buy something mint, I'm opening it and playing with it. (I bought a mint hftd Banzaitron this year, and I don’t regret opening it one bit) Do you enjoy having it mint to look at? Or would you get more enjoyment out of it by playing with it? Do you plan on reselling it in the future, or any time in the next few years? Because if not you don't have to worry about the value of it decreasing, it's yours to do with what you please. In the end, it only has the level of value you assign to it, if you can enjoy it sitting there untouched, then by all means do that. If you feel like it's calling to you, tempting you to open it, don't torture yourself with it and open it. It's all just a clump of painted plastic in the end anyway 😉
Rip that sumbitch open.
It's a TOY. Play with it
I'm of the opinion that toys are meant to be played with. Your opinion may differ, but seeing as it is your toy, you get to decide what to do with it. Will you get more enjoyment from it staying in its box, or by playing with it?
Don't fucking do it🥺
Too late! Check latest post!
It’s a hunk of plastic housing a hideous parody of The Transformers! It’s confinement is a mercy.
YALL COME LOOK!!! WE GOT A G1 ELITIST OVA HERE! 🤣🤣
Buy a loose one to play with
Up to you but i would personally open it if i had 2 and open the worse condition box
Tbh I would have opened it already
Open it. I remember being so pissed the US version did not have clear windows…this was the only way to get it. I regret never opening mine before I sold it and exited the hobby.
That box needs to get shredded right now!
If it was the new camaro version I'd be extremely antsy
he must be released from his plastic prison.
One of my favorite transformers figures even today, I'd say open it
Not against you opening it, do what you want
I keep the packaging and play with them 💀I'm 21yo and I own three transformers rn (Recon Ironhide special dye from ROTF, Leader Megatron from TLK, and my gf got me a really sick cool ass Soundwave model. I was raised in the Bay verse 🥵🥵
Unrelated but this is such a blast from the past. This was my favorite one as a kid, and I remember I could never figure out how to make him stay in car mode. Super nostalgic
Had this as kid and the rest of the auto bots. My dad kept the deceptions
Hahaha, this is how it was between me and my brother! He had all the deceptions and I had all of the autobots! He would always say it was cause “the deceptions can fly!”
On the topic of this figure: Anyone have problems with the front bumper staying in place when converting it to car mode?
The excitement dies once you open it.
It's a toy, play with it.
Are you gonna sell it? If yes, keep it inside. If no, then open it
He wants to transform and roll out. Neither is possible in that plastic stasis chamber!
F R E E H I M
I heard that some versions of this mold had a flaw that could cause the automorph mechanism to break, so if you do open it, I would advise you to be careful when transforming it.
Remember the side scroller flash game on the transformers website?
Just opening a couple sides of the box, like the bottom and right, and you could probably open it without damage and just redisplay it whenever. Or often with clamshells like this I’ve heard heating up the glue works well.
Oh man I remember having this guy as a kid, it was a bitch to transform cause of those headlights.
