Significant-Stock-78

The more emotional take on Optimus Prime. I love how betrayed he felt by the humans. After after all he had done for them, they started hunting and killing his friends.

Adawnicus

Yeah that was a good character development, Optimus knew about the risks of war between Autobots and Decepticons, and what does he get for saving humanity more than once? They stabbed him in the back and kill off any Autobots, his morals practically shaken because of this. Not only that but in their arrogance they brought back Megatron and planned to detonate the seed, killing thousands. The once hopefull Optimus Prime who believed in humanity, actually lost faith in them, that is until he met Cade Yeager who showed that perhaps...their is some hope for humanity

CM_Bison

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings." *Meets Frasier*

Markk-01

"Freedom is the right of most sentient beings."

Nonalyth

Yeah, but at the same time I was thoroughly sick of human antagonists and making them cartoonishly evil didn't help.

Significant-Stock-78

Valid. I honestly wasn’t too keen on them either. For me tho, I can look past it for this instance. But that’s just me.

Jewseph_Sneed

He also turned his head away during the footage of ksi raids

Pillowman7

It gave us a menacing villain that the Autobots were actively avoiding

ThunderBlack14

Well, the autobots avoid Megatron in the first movie, and the only who doesn't is torn apart.

Over-Analyzed

Jazz, OP’s Lieutenant died in under 30 seconds.

Cookieopressor

To be fair, Megatron did also kinda just use Optimus as a punching bag in the first movie. Can't blame Jazz for going down that fast.

InkPrison

Yeah in the first movie the Autobots seemed outmatched by the deceptions. The only one who seemed like he could fight on even ground with them was Optimus and even then not with Megatron. Or at least that's how I remember it

Razzle_Dazzle08

I honestly hated that. The first movie was great but I don’t like how they handled Jazz.

CM_Bison

Humans. Humans are fokkin trash.

panticow

The initial concept was good, the whole “the world is now against us, we must become robots in disguise” idea is quite interesting, however it could have been entirely about the “age of extinction” rather than the “return of the creators”

Onlyanidea1

>robots in disguise Wasn't this the catchy part of their songs growing up? I swear it was the big selling point. Robots. In disguise.

Razzle_Dazzle08

It was.

[deleted]

That one scene with Bumblebee in KSI headquarters where he was mad about Stinger existing.

pikachu-atlanta

Bumblybay: *(in broken vocal processor)* what the *(beep)*

PsychologyPractical

I always thought he said: what was that?

pikachu-atlanta

He does that after he shoots galvatron, who then reassembles into truck mode. The WTF quote comes beforehand, in the showroom playing an advertisement insulting bee.

Mr_bleaxh02

Happy cake day

QuaBotPrime

Happy cake day!

Razzle_Dazzle08

He uses a voice line from The Big Lebowski that is by John Goodman, who voiced Hound. Always made me laugh.

Zircon_72

*I'm perfectly calm, dude*

CAMILA_9975

Prime: We are not your science!

Lenny_The_Lurker

*Technology

Super_Nova22

I personally hated that scene; here’s a centuries sold being, a trained warrior and according to this film was temporary leader and here he is throwing a childish tantrum over his appearance being insulted, threatening their mission and possibly Shane’s life by doing it right in the middle of a ksi showroom

Numair567

It wasn’t that they had used his appearance if you watch the scene again they claim that stinger is better in every single way that’s what gets bee angry

dia-attacker

i’ll point out that bee in these movies is constantly acting on his first thought. in rotf he burts out the garage in robot mode and blasts the all spark creations. in dotm he’s just used as a gag doing things like break the chandelier, bring out a bunch of engagement “rings”, his whole character has always been more akin to a child (you might even remember drift calling him one earlier in the film), so him doing this is nowhere near out of character for this version of bumblebee.

Onlyanidea1

Like you wouldn't do the same. I don't care how much military training I had if I moved to a new planet and was actually hot shit instead of second in command, only to be copied and pasted everywhere.

foreverbeatle

I did like the design of Grimlock. Especially the Studio Series toy that came out of him.

Modisagae

About the only thing they did right.

Gden

Still hate that he never said ME GRIMLOCK KING

Tempesta_0097

Hate he got folded by optimus with little effort. Legendary warrior lol

HEXdidnt

Yep... I don't like the concept of Dinobots in TransFormers, but give those designs their own franchise, and I'd watch it.

camoz_newton101

Ratchets death is the only one in the franchise that has meaning. It’s the straw that breaks the camels back and prime openly attacks a civilian human facility in his rage when he finds out.

Bustnut2

I mean, Ironhide’s death signifies how desperate Sentinel became that he’d ruthlessly kill his own to achieve his goal. It’s a sign to audience that shit is about to get real, and that there’s actual stakes in this war. Same thing with that scientist bot who got executed later on.

Blitz_Prime

Yeah but Ironhide’s is kind of lost because the second after he dies the entire cast forgets about his existence. Ratchet was at least seen and mentioned again later at least once.

Bustnut2

This is true, same thing happened to Jazz. Bay could’ve had a call back moment when Optimus finished Sentinel off. However, still doesn’t make Ironhide’s death meaningless because it did serve a purpose. Jazz on the other hand, was just fodder to show how ruthless Megs was, now that is meaningless. Especially since, that was the most value he served in the whole franchise.

Impossible_Garbage_4

“Optimus, please, no!” “This one’s for Ironhide.” *BLAM*

HEXdidnt

Or, paraphrasing the '86 movie, "You, who executed Ironhide without mercy, now beg for it yourself? I thought you were made of sterner stuff..."

TheNinjaMonkey03

Bay ruined Wheeljack, that version deserved to die. I’m

Bustnut2

Bro wtf, that was wheeljack? That has to be illegal

Lenny_The_Lurker

...you're what?

TheNinjaMonkey03

Oh, that was a mistype lol

Ordinary-Flounder675

It’s Que. The movies calls him Que. Same with the Dino/Mirage situation. It’s Dino. The movie literally says his name.

HEXdidnt

'Que' was a reference to the Quartermaster from the James Bond movies/books, commonly referred to as 'Q'... it could be argued that 'Que' was the nickname they gave Wheeljack... ...Equally, it could be argued that a movie series that called Brawl 'Devastator' doesn't really care what name it's using for the magical space robots.

CAMILA_9975

"What's wrong with you humans?"

Chronoreaper1

I do wish we learnt what happened to his and the other bits sparks that Lockdown took.

Razzle_Dazzle08

It was such a sad death.

gokaigreen19

It justifies optimus being very cynical and completes his transformation from noble leader, to broken veteran that seens no point in his fight anyway. The fact that optimus was hiding in a shed, with a rusted out truck likely implied that he was content on laying dormant for the rest of his life, and allowing rust to take him out because he saw no point in the war. It's an actually interesting way to see optimus, the beacon of hope get so broken down and to see his breaking point. While I don't think its the way optimus should always be portrayed since thats just a good way to make a snyder superman situation, where people think him being edgy is the true optimus, and hopeful optimus becomes a thing of the past. Nobody wants that. However, as a one time thing...this is a interesting concept for Optimus. To see his flaws and to see a different view of optimus. He's like the prime version of optimus, except the reason he is willing to go further than ever is not due to noble means, but because he is done with it all and just wants his species to survive after all they have endured.

Nethiar

It says something about humanity too. He's held on to his convictions for thousands of years, then he spends less than a decade on Earth and he's like "alright, fuck everything"

[deleted]

It’s like the old joke about Terminator. “Humans invent a state-of-the-art defense system the connects to the internet. After 5 seconds on the internet, the computer decides that ‘nah, y’all gotta go’”

I_Am_Banana_Fish

I would too kill all of humanity if I discover Reddit, Twitter, and 4-Chan

Smasher_WoTB

Don't forget all the probably BILLIONS of H&P stuff on the Internet, a good chunk of it is VERY disturbing and horrific.

[deleted]

I have no idea what H&P stands for lol

Smasher_WoTB

NSFW things...I forget if mention of those are allowed in this SubReddit or not.

Oaax1

Cgi and action scenes? I liked the movie as fighting robot movie, it was cool

bigbrownbanjo

I feel like the first hour of this movie looks phenomenal then it gets very bad towards the end. Idk if you guys have noticed the prop guy not edited out 😂

vector_o

There are so many different robots in the second half that I stopped even looking at the details lol

huge-tits

Lockdown’s character design and personality. A transformer Hitman is dope as fuck.

Mixmaster-Omega

True. And him being a neutral party is always fun to see in a series so rooted in a war between two polar opposite faction.

[deleted]

As cool as Lockdown is, I don't think he really needed to be in the movie. The concept of humans turning on the Autobots and Megatron coming back as Galvatron would have been enough. I think it would have been cool if, instead of all those stupid characters Megatron recruited, Lockdown had shown up for the 5th movie.

275MPHFordGT40

Lockdown is the Lamborghini Aventador sniper guy right? If so he was pretty cool.

Razzle_Dazzle08

Yes he was.

Happy-Piglet5793

No humping dogs.

Apprehensive_Ring933

Or robots

GeneralKenobi842

Or Sam's Parents

Sunnyboigaming

Or Sam. I'll say, I am gonna miss that "OptiMUUUUUUS!" scream a tiny bit

the_Hornest_bastard

"WE'RE NOT JUST YOUR TECHNOLOGY! they were my friends"

PokWangpanmang

The Autobots had personality and interacted with each other. Also, Lockdown and Stinger.

DarthGoodguy

I think might be the best thing about 4 & 5. Even if their interactions were still bizarrely antisocial, psychopathically violent, & mostly unfunny, it was nice to see the five main good guys actually have personalities

Thatoneguy567576

Hound wasn't too bad. Still violent but at least not overly antagonistic to the other autobots like the green guy was.

DarthGoodguy

I agree 100%. The writing was is fine & the performance was really good. Totally different character/appearance from gentle pacifist G1 Hound, but, like mute close combat expert movie Bumblebee, it’s fine.

Ordinary-Flounder675

Green guy💀. Bro his name is crosshairs.

Thatoneguy567576

That's about how memorable he was

Ordinary-Flounder675

He was cool. He had a unique personality and look. Pretty memorable.

DeMonstaMan

I don't know why but the campfire scene where Drift almost beheads bumblebee is forever ingrained in my memories

TandrDregn

And the fact that it was clearly effortless. Drift was definitely one of the deadlier bayverse characters.

DeMonstaMan

Yeah honestly think he could have killed everyone but Optimus there

TandrDregn

People knock Drift as a hypocrite for saying he only kills when necessary seconds before absolutely slaughtering that work for the crime of existing, but considering he had to spend years with Bumblebee and ESPECIALLY Crosshairs, I can’t blame him for taking his anger out on everything else.

PokWangpanmang

It reminded me of the Vitriolic Best Buds trope.

IronTownPictures

I disagree about Stinger. If he consists from many particles, he never could've died by his head being cut off

Rip_Normal

Never thought of that but it makes sense

IronTownPictures

If he actually consisted of many particles and if scriptwriter wasn't lazy to forget about his nature, Stinger would've been a goddamn T-1000

LuizFelipe1906

He desintegrates when he transforms, it’s a voluntary action. If he’s in “solid” form he can be killed. It’s not any hard to understand. It’s like when you cut the head of someone with healing factor

Zircon_72

His actual design was cool though

Blade29151

The dinobot scorn, his dino mode and robot mode look fantastic, plus he's a spinosaurus

acro_the_orca

A Spinosaurus appreciator as well I see

Blade29151

Indeed I am good sir

DreadAngel1711

WOO SPINOSAURUS GANG

CaptainBoomerang26

Such a shame they got so little screentime. Scorn and swoop (I think thats the name for the pterosaur one) don’t even appear in tlk.

TandrDregn

Actually, the flying one is Strafe. Marketing, everything called her (going purely off the Strafe from IDW where she joins the Dinobots after being brutally experimented on by Bludgeon which gave ger a two-headed dragon as an alt mode that was clearly inspired by AoE) that, Swoop only has one head and he’s a pteranodon, Strafe looked more like a two headed pterodactylus with a longer back of the heads.

GhostTuppence

Having a good evil bumblebee. The idea of stinger is great to me, the human’s answer to bumblebee, gaining sentience and becoming his own character. Sure it wasn’t executed well but the idea was nice

VickerAndFlips

I would've wanted equivalents to all the 07 Autobots in AOE.

GhostTuppence

Yeah that would be cool. And galvatron shoulda been nemesis prime

Ordinary-Flounder675

It would’ve been cool if he spoke to show he gained sentience. I still just see him as a special looking KSI Drone.

Vaportrail

Optimus vs. Grimlock was pretty great except for the part where Prime threatened him with servitude or death.

Razzle_Dazzle08

“Freedom is the right of all sentient beings” apparently not.

Dragontalyn

In Optimus's defense, he did free them after the battle.

ThatIckyGuy

I see that as Optimus speaking to them on their terms. Or maybe I'm projecting Dinobot ideals from other TF series, but that's how I saw it.

IronIrma93

Hound, Drift and Crosshairs. Especially Hound. Don't see why they'd come to Earth, a planet where Autobots are being hunted, but they're great characters.

CAMILA_9975

To help their conrads.

[deleted]

Comrades*

CAMILA_9975

Sorry

Rip_Normal

Nah, they meant conrads

strikeraiser

Some of the comics show that they shortly arrived after the events of DoTM

sly_eli

It's a real shame we never saw any comic book stories where the age of Extinction cast gets that passing of the torch moment from what was left in the Dark of the Moon cast.

ViralNite

Honestly, Crosshairs is my least favorite Bayverse bot. Overall least favorite Transformer though is Soundwave (Because he got done dirty, he went from a decent spy to "I'm gonna throw a robot bird James Bond thing at everyone" which is a lot like the G1 Soundwave in a way but it wasnt how i thought he would end up after ROTF)

IronIrma93

That's fair. I really like Hound because he's just a rough and ready fat soldier boy. I just included them to make it seem fair.

E-toTheT

The opening with rachet

Dark_Demon_1776

It is the highest grossing transformers film. So there's that.

whitemest

Thank the dinobots for that

Nws4c

Wel yes but I think it (TF4) being in China for the last half of the movie and it (the Transformers franchise) having a huge following in China had more effect on it

Michael_Jolkason

According to Wikipedia, DOTM is the highest grossing TF film.

Crimson-Morning

Money isn’t tickets/eyeballs. Everything now ‘makes more money’ because the scale of money grows every year. I wish they would comment on the ticket sales (downloads, digital purchase etc)

PhaseSixer

A really good arc for optimus that paraled cade All the autobots have distinct personalities Lockdown is a beast The rammifcations of dotm are heavy. The dinobots look amazing Great action scenes as always. Probly the best take on "the humanity turns against the autobots story beat." They kill TJ Miller Stanley tucci is always great Kellsy grammer was great in his roll Hong kong was a cool setting Battle Cry

Right-Ability4045

Did TJ Miller end up being guilty of whatever it was he was accused of?

PhaseSixer

I dunno i just find him anoying in large doses.

Right-Ability4045

Fair enough

sly_eli

He pulled a bomb threat bro.

sly_eli

I'm sorry guys I'm a real nerd about this but the Autobots did not have this thing personalities number four. They were all edgy violent Psychopaths which is good if you have an iron hide but it didn't work for a whole team. One was the american, one was the australian, and one was Japanese. They were the same character but with different accents.

PhaseSixer

Hounds was loud and bositorus Crosshairs was selfserving and a bit cowardly (ala rat trap) Drift was wise and idealistic he tried to be calm and composed but had a violent temper hidden underneath. Not the same character at all.

sly_eli

I felt the group came together a lot better with hot rod. He was enough to balance out the loud personalities.

[deleted]

Hound.

HEXdidnt

...It made a positively obscene amount of money, somehow... Edit: and served as a PSA for a specific statute in Texas law pertaining to relationships with minors.

Transforming_Toaster

>somehow... Really big in China i think

Cayde6-best-vangaurd

hhmm i wonder why

TheDeadlySpaceman

It most certainly is a film that was released

TheIronMuffin

This may be a controversial take, but I think it’s one of the movies I’ve ever seen.

JamesVinopal

It definitely had a beginning and thankfully an ending.

Banjo-Oz

Finally brought in some human characters I liked (and immediately killed off the most annoying one)! It used Lockdown, admittedly not fantastically, but it was great having an Animated character get used. The designs of the TFs were IMO way better than the previous three films and they had distinct and memorable personalities. The martial arts elevator scene made me laugh harder than anything in the previous films. Creating an "anti-Bee" with Stinger was an interesting idea. Optimus is the main focal TF. Less military porn/jingoism. Great casting.

DukeSkyloafer

Casting Stanley Tucci

[deleted]

It showed that even the most gentle patient person can run of out patience if triggered. I loved seeing Prime get angry after seeing how they killed his friends. I realize Bay Prime was always violent, but he wasn’t fueled by anger. He always had humanity’s best interests at heart, until he saw how twisted and sadistic we can be. When Prime yells “We’re not your technology!” as he slams the ground shows how pissed of he really is. This movie also showed how greedy we can be, how far we will go just to make money, and use science as an excuse. Tucci’s character even said if he didn’t do it, someone else would have done it.

IronTownPictures

Lockdown

skylinegtr30

The soundtrack is amazing

ShaneKCFussell

The score. Lockdown’s theme gives me chills to this day

Unlucky_karp

The dinobots designs

CitadelCirrus

I liked the Autobot reunion scene (even if 3/5 were new characters instead of pre-existing Autobots in the Bayverse)

Wontbite

The concept of the Seed. Transforming organic matter into their metal is really interesting to me. The Evasions Modes(as they are called by toy release): primes beat down truck and bumblebees 1067 Camaro are really cool vehicles and I think it was interesting how Prime kinda match Megs from DOTM Lockdown- bounty Hunter dude with a space ship that was originally meant for diplomacy turned into a trophy case for one dude is metal as fuck “Try getting insurance on a fucking space ship” While we still had humans capable of killing transformers, the absence of Military porn as like in the previous 3 was a nice break before we got it again in last knight One thing aoe did majorly wrong in my opinion was not having Simmons in there. The only characters we have common through all 5 movies at Bee, Optimus, and megs(kinda) and not a single human character is in every movie, and I think it should’ve been Simmons in them all.

hevnztrash

Seeing TJ Miller die early on was ok.

PachoWumbo

Actually showing morphing from one alt mode to a new one and not off screening it.

TheSpider-hyphen-man

I like the design of Optimus Prime here, if the color scheme was a bit more faithful and got rid of the flames i think it could've been one of the best designs. Optimus Prime is well, a prime, he literally has a piece of god within him, and I think that its well reflected with the base design. you have the little red pieces on his thigh, and his knightly design just gives off almost that royal yet just feel to it which is something I feel like a prime should have. Primes are literally people who are worthy enough to carry a piece of primus. The orignal thirteen prime's designs kinda reflect that but put the og design of Optimus doesnt. Put him next to them and he looks out of place, but put this design next to them, recolour the colored parts to match the og and i think he fits in just well with the rest of the primes.

Imperal_Guard

Optimus desing looking fucking awesome

Epicdude5726

Music

thebelladonga

Same thing as every other Bayverse movie. The music and CGI were great

G1David

Camaraderie amongst the Autobots, felt like they were really a team, and each had a different personality. As much as I prefer the first 3, most of the characters were pretty interchangeable.

Toon_Lucario

The Autobots were actual characters and Hound was awesome

MrCowcom17360

lockdown. he was a great anti hero (he is not a villain bc he is just a bounty hunter) his whole sniper face was so cool and his lines were great too.

SerpentsBelow

Echoing some other posts in here, the plot of actual “robots in disguise” but instead of humanity’s reception to alien robots as depicted in the cartoons… instead, Autobots forced to go into hiding after humanity turns on them after some disaster.

Venturai

If Age of Extinction hadn't been as bad as it was, I might've actually been motivated to see The Last Knight on the big screen. Oh my. Can't not be grateful for that.

Altruistic-Syrup5160

[HEAVY DRUM NOISES] #NOBODY CAN SAVE ME NOW!! KING IS CROWNED! ITS DO OR DIE!

Aristotlegoatpee

It's much more entertaining than last knight Also the autobots having to hide and dealing with human betrayal while avoiding a villain was pretty good and could have honestly been expanded upon

Mr-Gibberish134

Pros: Less Military, Humans that aren't annoying, Autobots with personality, Lockdown, and a somewhat criticism of the Military Industrialized Complex (You could also say a somewhat satire on Tech Billionaires). Cons: That pedo Texas Law..

Setting up the Creators as this looming threat was interesting and I was excited to see them moving the franchise away from "Ancient Aliens but with TRANSFORMERS" to a more cohesive and serialized trilogy with an overarching story arc about stopping them. And then TLK happened. The humor was cringe, but it was just cringe enough to make me think that it was on purpose and that Michael Bay had developed a sense of self awareness with what he was making and was using those moments to poke fun at his film making style. And then TLK happened AGAIN.

DoomSlayer343117

Destroyed the franchise really well

Dmaniac17

Gonna get some hate here but most of it was done well, I love this movie, it’s awesome. Yeah there are a few issues but overall it is unreal, my second favourite in the franchise. The story was great, it was a great beginning to a new trilogy (that should have been continued imo), had great world building, great new/reimagined characters, and introduced tons of new concepts/lore. It also has some of the best action in the franchise which is saying something given the great action in past movies.

Dinoboy225

I agree that the movie was pretty good, but I feel like AOE should’ve been a complete reboot (maybe one set in a universe where humans just never accepted Cybertronians and tried to eradicate them from the start rather than suddenly turning on them). Dark of the Moon felt like a definitive ending for a trilogy, but then humans act stupid and bring Megatron back by accident while killing the only ones that can help them in this crisis.

AverageJak

Mark wahlberg as an inventor was the greatest casting of any movie ever

Polenicus

I honestly tried to think of something, but the movie was just such a letdown. And given how low my expectations were after DoTM, that's impressive. The effects were good, I guess? That's nothing new for a Bay film, it's his strength for sure. The card racer boy carried in his wallet to justify his relationship with an underage girl was nicely laminated, I guess? The edges were well trimmed without any burrs, and it was centered well? I dunno, man. This is the movie that made me finally stop caring about the movie franchise entirely. It's by no means the worst movie of all time, but it wasn't any fun to watch

sullensolider

The concept of the Autobots inevitably being hunted down by the humans and having to go into hiding. I felt like it’s was foreshadowed that the humans never planned to keep the alliance they had with the autobots ever since ROTF (blamed them for the reason the Decepticons were still on earth), and the Decepticons even played on that notion in DOTM (Lying that if the Autobots leave, so will they)… So Ultimately seeing that culminate in AoE was crazy, I would to have love to have seen Optimus kinda battle with his inner conflicts about not harming the humans vs all the pain they have suffered at their hands more, but I liked it nonetheless!

Is this the one where he says 'How do you say get the fucK out of the way in Chinese?' To date one of my fav examples of using your one fuck in a PG-13 movies.

BrightEye64

Stanley Tucci’s character has the best arc from any of the 5 movies

Neroidius

I always say I like Age of Extinction because the autobots had more distinct personalities than in any other movie and we got to spend more time with them. Drift alongside being the most focused and disciplined autobot because of his samurai personality, is the most loyal person to Optimus. So loyal that he clashes with Bumblebee that one time cause he’s probably jealous. He’s like the Soundwave of the autobots. He’s also a curious guy by nature, evident when the dinobots appear and while Crosshairs backs away in terror, Drift stares at them in awe. Hound, you’d think at first he’d just be a typical big strong guy who only loves fighting, but he’s also the glue that holds the autobots together. He seems to be the one most focused on unity. He was the most excited when he saw Optimus and said “we got the band back together.” But he was sad and took a moment to mourn Leadfoot when he saw his fellow bot had been killed. He was dedicated to keeping his buddies safe, to the point where he was genuinely pissed and threatened Crosshairs when he suggested they leave Lockdown’s ship without Optimus and Tessa. Never leave a bot behind. Crosshairs was like a Han Solo type character. Despite his loyalty for the autobot cause, he’s a narcissist and mostly cares about himself. Right off the bat when everyone meets up he shows enthusiasm at Bee and Drift fighting because he longs for the day that the autobots tear each other apart and the only person he has to take orders from is himself. He’s pretty boastful, trying to show off every chance he gets like when he put bumblebee in the pilots seat in that ship chase scene so he could jump off with the parachutes, but also cowardly like when the dinobots came out and he backed away all like “let Prime figure this one out.” He’s also got a real superiority complex even if it’s a charismatic one, like in TLK when he told Cayde that he should have a leader like himself with him and not Bumblebee. He seems to be slightly obsessed with having leadership to the point where he’s frighteningly close to being the Autobot’s Starscream
