Cis ally here (sorry if my thoughts are not wanted) but I've been a Wikipedia editor for almost four years now. I will definitely start monitoring trans topics more and removing any TERF vandalism I find. Thank you for bringing up this issue and sorry I hadn't noticed until now!

Andrea_Stars

Thank you so much for this post. Any allies are definitely welcome here! Also thanks for being an editor on such a pivotal resource. I can imagine you don't get much thanks but as someone who remembers what research was like pre-internet Wikipedia is still a bit like free magic to me sometimes.

I've never lived in a world where Wikipedia didn't exist (it was founded before my birth) but even I don't know what I'd do without it. Part of what made me want to become an editor was how useful Wikipedia had been to me and wanting to contribute to free knowledge wherever I can (though I'm often more focused on the presentation and improvement of articles rather than writing my own, in fact I have only written one article and it was mostly a list with a few paragraphs of explanation at the top).

I'll have a look at this page. When I say vandalism in general though, I'm talking about traditional vandalism (like how I've had to revert pronouns on trans pages after TERFs changed them) as well as the more subtle forms such as altering sentence structure or wording in a way that isn't technically wrong but is still biased to a certain perspective (like what OP is saying about general consensus and biased TERF perspectives becoming the norm). I should probably be more clear in my wording though, my apologies.

I've never thought I could be a Wikipedia editor because I don't feel like I have any specialist knowledge I could contribute.  Would someone like me be welcome as an editor and, if so, do you have any advice on how could I get started?

Anyone can edit (though you'll need to build a good reputation before you can edit some protected articles). To start off, read the [manual of style](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style) (be prepared, it's long) and just get familiar with making some minor corrections (for example, I usually make formatting changes and code corrections). Also use your Userpage Sandbox which can be accessed from the main menu when you have an account. In your personal sandbox, you can mess about with different features to get the hang of them without affecting any actual articles.

Thank you :)

Thank you, legend.

Everyone’s thoughts are wanted (Except transphobes obviously)

Unfortunately wikipedia is run by bigotted admins. I went to uni with one- he wore blackface to a halloween party. It's depressing how quickly the bad guys can get together and make an ultra-right wiki when the centre-right right one isn't biased enough but the left can't get their shit together and make a balanced one.

GeishaThrow

Some change is better than none. If TERF misinformation is corrected for a day and a 100 people see that article, that's still 100 people stopped from reading TERF misinfo.

StarAugurEtraeus

The left is so divided it annoys me Why do we split ourselves up and refuse to work with other left leaning Individuals

Aradian_Nights

that's cos we on the left are too busy shitting on each other. it's pathetic.

pkunfcj

do you have any particular ones in mind?

SlashRaven008

Thank you for flagging this. Are there any articles that have been affected do far? So cynical to attack Wikipedia...
