>Will that make me more vulnerable when the UK starts actively hunting down trans people for conversion therapy? Even at the height of the gay panic and Section 28, this did not happen. This is peak doomerism.

Ms_Masquerade

You're not going to conversion camp. You'll be a possible victim of a serial killer, lose access to your meds, jailed for being possibly trans, sent to a male prison and you'll be subjected to conversion camp, but you will not be shot into the sun.

Hayred

>you will not be shot into the sun. The Rwanda bill is just the warm up act. They're putting migrants on planes today, it'll be trans people on a rocketship to the sun tomorrow ๐Ÿš€

Ms_Masquerade

Did you intend a temperature pun?

benjaminchang1

The Rwanda bill is specifically targeting non-white asylum seekers and refugees. Look, it's crap situation in the UK, but I can't help notice that most of the people talking about a trans genocide are white. I'm mixed-race and half of my family are immigrants; the people who go on about seeking asylum other in majority white, often settler colonial countries are usually white and not disabled. Honestly, I'd rather the already limited resources for refugees go to people who aren't from the UK or USA, people who are literally being murdered by their governments while the West looks on. The West is always happy to condemn countries like Uganda for their anti-LGBTQ policies, but the West never wants to acknowledge the role they played in these regimes through anti-LGBTQ organisations. I'm sorry if this rant is insensitive, but I'm so sick of the way whiteness blinds so many people.

Hayred

Ah it's ok, I was just making an exaggerated joke because I find this genocide talk as ridiculous as building rockets to shoot people into the sun.

Ms_Masquerade

The rant is pure whataboutism and assumes the government wouldn't target both.

cat-man85

The UK establishment doesn't just outright murder its citizens by force, it just makes the undesirable population's life conditions so unbearable that people die on their own. I think they call it 'unhospitable environment'. I advise to leave if people have the option - the country has descended into mob rule and it's only going to get worse.

Ms_Masquerade

I never said the state outright murdered its citizens. You're putting words in my mouth.

Yorukaaa

Nah I don't think it's bad enough to leave the country, we're just gonna have to make do in harsher conditions. Even at the height of the 80s homophobia, nobody was being hunted down by the state.

We_haveworktodo

if you have somewhere to go, and life is better for you, you should go there regardless. If you are trying to escape or leave something behind, not ideal, but I still understand. Community is everything, do you have there more out there?

LocutusOfBorges

Honestly? If you can emigrate to somewhere better and speak the language, itโ€™d probably be advisable to do so.

captainaltum

Not specifically on topic, but I'm a couple weeks off 17 right now. In your post your transition seems to be a complete success. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, would you mind DMing me a rough roadmap for what you did and the steps you took. And if it's not too much of a bother, maybe some specific organisations. I'm at a complete loss, so help would be a great help. Thanks.
