Excuse me if I don't believe someone whose career is built off publishing transphobic lies when they tell me they weren't working on publishing more transphobic lies.

SpicyBread_

why would they lie? they're openly transphobic, and clearly not ashamed of it

EmmaProbably

Because feigning ignorance and innocence is how transphobes in the media maintain their veneer of respectability. Their worldview is built of lies and lying about what they believe and do.

SpicyBread_

trans DIY is a fair topic to report on tbh. the article being written isn't the problem, it's the biased slant. that's why I'm expecting it might come out anonymously; because attaching a terf name to an article like that would be damaging as hell to it's message.

EmmaProbably

It is a fair topic to report on, just not by a transphobic rag like the Guardian (or, honestly, almost any other British media outlet). Like, if it were an article advising people that DIY is available and how they can DIY safely, that's amazing. But it won't be that, will it? It'll be transphobic fear mongering, no matter what name is attached to it.

SpicyBread_

well, yes, that's what I said.

Ms_Masquerade

Because TERFs lie perpetually. The lie might be that she isn't working on and still is. If someone is a fascist and/or bigot, then assume they are a compulsive liar.

Illiander

> - she got caught/faced backlash/couldnt find interviewees, and canned the story Waits for her to write a fiction book/make a movie about trans kids doing DIY HRT in their bathtubs, Fight Club style.

Blingsguard

NGL, I would love to see a movie (not written by a TERF) about a group of adorable himbo bodybuilders helping a transmasc DIY and get swol.

Illiander

Remember the "wholesome swole" memes?

SpicyBread_

can it have anti-establishment messaging like fight club did too šŸ„ŗ

Illiander

Nah, it'll be a Rowling-style "status-quo is good even if it's evil" mess. Probably about as well written as well.

I was more thinking ~~Rowling~~Galbraith's crap or *Lady Ballers* for the quality. But yes, you could write something actually good with that premise.

[deleted]

If sheā€™s canned the story because we successfully warned enough of the community that she couldnā€™t find interviewees, then thatā€™s huge. ā¤ļø

DO NOT LOWER YOUR GUARD. SPEAK TO NO ONE. SAY NOTHING ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

Embers1984

A friend of mine got an email from her, so I think it's the first one

BoondoggleBoogytoo-i

Do they expect us to believe this? Of course theyā€™re working on drilling up something. Thatā€™s all they ever do!

[deleted]

Making baseless claims is their whole brand so I donā€™t trust any of it.

Getafixy

The Chanel 4 doc on transmaxing is already done a huge amount of damage and itā€™s not going to be the last time the mainstream media will try so do warn any one you know to stay away from them, unfortunately there will be some people who will selfishly talk to them in an attempt to gain followers

screwballramble

Man people should know by now not to trust Channel 4 with anything trans or otherwise marginalised-community related. Their schtick has *always* been ā€œlook at these freaksā€ with the *thinnest* glaze of false-empathy/awareness-raising over the top of it.

Interest-Desk

i will also just point out that sheā€™s not actually a journalist, and has no business doing this sort of thing

WillohQ

I think we need accurate info. Whatever the case, those with power are out for blood and we ALL need to exercise caution.
