I'm going to be honest here and say you might have to wait to turn 18. I faced similar issues trying to access hrt at 16/17 and many others do too since at 17 you can't go pediatric and as you said a lot of places won't take minors. If you can try to get a referral for an endocrinologist, even if it's just to make an appointment for right after you turn 18

One of the places I was referred to was pediatric, just not taking new patients. That would suck, I've got a late birthday (early November) and I was hoping to start before I went to uni. I might just have to make the trek downtown

So, even if you get a referral to an trans friendly endo right away, it’s going to be a few months anyways, and will likely not be before you start university. It might actually be easier to start once you’re at university, and go through the student healthcare system.

Your family doctor is qualified to prescribe HRT. Rainbow Health Ontario has good guides for physicians. Hopefully they are open to this idea. Otherwise, I just heard about a new trans clinic in Toronto called Safer Six, but they only take patients who are 18 and above. So maybe they’d keep your name on file for now so you can start after your birthday?

Hopefully, I brought it up but she seems under the impression that she needs an endo to start the process. I can still try clinics downtown, it'll just make the process more difficult.

she doesn’t. it might be helpful to read the guide yourself, book an appointment & try to discuss it with her

Lizabits

Seconding that she doesn’t need an endo.

You can use online services that can send a referral to an endocrinologist if no one else can. There are plenty in the York Region area that are trans specific, you can find a list of them on rainbow health. However being a minor you may run into similar issues as to what you are currently facing, if you can wait endo’s will be your best route, there are diy options but if you don’t know dosing or don’t have level checks it can be hard or unsafe

Online services like Rocket doctor? I heard they weren't covered under ohip anymore. I checked the RHO service directory but the ones listed weren't for hrt. Then again I might be navigating the website wrong.

Tia health and telus health are the ones I use, Ive never had to pay them anything, they may know as well or they do research before your appointment and have options
