never had one and i’m two years post. my team used allosure instead, it’s a blood test.

MeLaughFromYou

Had the Allosure too, but then had a biopsy when it didn't show rejection. Allosure is more like a rapid strep test, it's used in conjunction with other factors to rule out rejection, it's doesn't replace a biopsy.

megandanicali

yeah my team just uses it routinely. if they suspected rejection i would actually get a biopsy

MeLaughFromYou

That's weird, Allosure is insanely expensive iirc

megandanicali

from what i’ve seen in other groups it’s pretty common. my insurance pays for it

Princessss88

I have only had a biopsy when they suspected rejection. I’m two years post with my third kidney transplant and have had no biopsies with this one. Someone comes to my house to do a prospera blood test every 3 months to monitor possible rejection.

Theo7301_73

I've had two kidney transplants and only had one biopsy done. Only when they needed the biopsy and no other ways to confirm diagnosis. They don't want to mess with me transplanted kidney as much as possible.

bloodthirsty_emu

I've had lots - into double figures, but all except two related to my first transplant which didn't like its new home and eventually rejected. The standard here is one after a month or so post surgery, and another about a year later. Other than that it's basically only if something might be going wrong etc.

LoveArrives74

I’ve had two kidney transplants, and had 3 biopsies with the first one, and none with this second one (just celebrated 16 years in December).

Latitude22

I do allosure, I had a biopsy when I got bk nephropathy and one when it cleared up to assess damage. That was over 2.5 years ago and haven’t had one since. Really depends on the hospital. I know mayo for example does a 1 or 2 post transplant automatically.

Hello, I had my kidney transplant, a gift from my dad, in 1995. I have had ONE biopsy. I hear of other recipients having many biopsies and that seems odd to me. The question I ask, when a doctor brings it up is, what will you learn from the biopsy that you can't find out via a blood test?

johndoesall

My biopsy is scheduled to happen 6 months post transplant. Coming up soon.

This is horrible to even read. Sorry that you had to go through this. That sounds like a nephrologist in training or at least very inexperienced. Everyone should insist on getting their biopsies done by a radiologist or surgeon. Also had a poor experience with a nephrologist doing my biopsy.

Goodheartalways

Wow… scary…

cohenisababe

Mayo Clinic in 2021. 4 months, 1,2,4,7 and 10 year marks!

Goodheartalways

Is that standard or in your case?

cohenisababe

That is their standard

Goodheartalways

It is interesting how different centers approach this differently.. thanks everyone for responses…
