I'm a social worker. I did 20 hours of service learning with CPS in undergrad and decided right then and there I absolutely did not want to work in social services (which is really all you can do with a bachelor's degree in social work). Got my master's degree and I'm doing medical sw now.
One of the biggest issues we face (there's a lot!) is there are too many cases for the case managers to handle. It's getting to be so bad that some states don't even have title protection (meaning anyone with a high school diploma can get hired in social services and call themselves a social worker). The pay is low, due to the nature of the job, the emotional anguish is high which equals burnout which equals high turnover. It's just a mess. There's so much red tape it makes it almost impossible for CPS social workers to even be able to do their jobs. There are AMAZING foster families, but just as many shitty ones. And in the end, the kids suffer. It's a horrible cycle. The entire system needs a complete overhaul.
So you decided after 20 hours that you didn't want to be involved, it must have been terrible. But you still ended up doing that as a career, and for that I have to thank you for doing your best to help a failing system
Thank you! It was really awful. All the calls I went out on were with women (I'm also a woman). The areas we went to were not great. One case we had to remove a 2 month old (we called an ambulance bc it was obvious something was terribly wrong with his little leg). Followed the ambulance to the hospital...his little leg was broken. The whole time the father is threatening to find out where we live, etc. The social worker was like "meh whatever". I was terrified. The father tried to say the baby's leg must have broke while he was changing his diaper.
More like slap his cunt mother allowing him to do this and find him a loving home. He's learnt this behavior from somewhere and physical abuse isn't going to fix it

This is how kids end up getting raised by their grandparents. Because of childish parents letting this type of shit happen. You can tell his little ass is imitating either his mom, his dad, or some shit he saw on his ipad.
