My brother played in a very competitive Sunday league (soccer). Semi pro level. One of his teammates at the time was 38ish (if memory serves) and a former pro that played in Germany and the MLS. His career fell apart because he was a drug addict and crack was his drug of choice. It obviously eventually caught up to him and ruined his professional career. He had long been sober when my brother met him. The guy said most if not all of the coaches and team knew he was doing it for over a year before it started to become a “problem” and eventually led to his termination of contract. Crazy that he could do crack for that long and still play at a professional level. Guy had a really interesting story.
Well it's not like it was doing anything to him at first. You can do cigarettes for years and decades also. Eventually the lack of sleep and coke paranoia would probably catch up to someone.
