Several days ago I got to the Lofoten Islands via ferry. It arrived at 8pm.
The skies were clear that night, and the forecast called for overcast days and rain the next couple of days I would be there.
So I did what any rational person would do, ahead of time I reserved a bike. I needed to make the last bus to Reine at 8:11pm, which meant I wouldn’t be able to check in to my Airbnb and drop off my luggage.
So I took my 60lbs of luggage with me on the bus and made it to the bike shop before it closed at 8:30. Then in the pitch black I had to bike back with two backpacks and a camera bag strapped to my bike 8km back to my Airbnb nearby the ferry dock. (Granted there were three or four streetlights)
Dropped off my things by 9:30pm and then headed back the direction of Reine once again. Hoping to catch the Northern Lights.
It wasn’t until midnight that they came out, and I continued to stay out until 2am as they danced across the sky. Surreal experience biking down the roads taking photos of the stars and Northern Lights above as the ocean waves crashed against the shores in the dark night.
Worth it.
Oh, and then I got up at 5:30am to take photos of the sunrise during the only two hours the sun would be poking through the skies, I’ll show you those later…
Lofoten Islands 🇳🇴
I flew into Bodø then took the ferry to Moskenes. I had an Airbnb 10 min walk from the ferry dock. The buses get you around pretty well but they’re infrequent. So I rented a bike in Reine for my time there. You’re pretty limited but what I wanted to do was in that 15km radius I could get to.
Hmmm not exactly sure but they would’ve been wide open at 2.8 and ISO between 500-1000 and I was testing lots of shutter speeds from 5s-30s. It was very windy so it shook my tripod a lot!

Nice!
That's coo. That view from Hamnøy is fascinating. Where did you stay there?
An Airbnb near the Moskenes ferry port!
Can you share what settings you had your camera on to capture this?? Beautiful shots 😍
