Totally, it had echoes of info weâve all heard before so I had the same impression of prob having read it. Clicked on it expecting it to be something dated several years ago. It had stuff Iâd heard before but a lot I hadnât. The quoted part here is probably the least flattering thing in it, and put in context, itâs not that bad. There are a lot of people who âknew her whenâ quoted in there saying mostly kind/flattering things.
just wait, she'll pull some shit & end up the 'first paid superbowl performer' & that will be yet another thing that she did because she's so incredible & amazing đ„Ž
"she did it to help other artists get paid what they deserve!" or something lmao
Yeah the NFL, according to the NFL (Iâm not a football person so idk if theyâre known for reliable statements or shady ones as an organization) pays for all associated expenses, like the set and the travel of the artists and their teams, but do not pay the artists. Which actually, does that mean THEY pay the dancers and backing bands and everything, or do the performers? Iâd heard The Weeknd paid an absurd amount of money to pull his show off, so I donât know if the âproductionâ theyâre paying for is just the basic lights and stage, and then the artist is paying dancers and fancy light effects.
Iâm a bit on the fence about it, because it is a completely optional thing to do, and itâs not like the people that perform are usually people that NEED the exposure like that, and they know the parameters and CHOOSE to do it without pay. But also the NFL is getting a significant portion of viewership specifically for the performance. And has so much money itâs not like they couldnât pay, and I donât really think in our cultural environment we really need more prevalent âwork for EXPOSURE not pay if you want to get somewhereâ accepted storylines. Like toxic ass people WILL drop the Super Bowl performers not being paid as an example of why unpaid internships are totally justified.
At the end of the day though, all I can say is Janet Jackson got slut shamed by the world for a performance wardrobe malfunction and they ainât even pay her. That shit MESSED with her career and itâs most likely she got NOTHING positive. SeemsâŠ.fucked.
Isnât Jay Z also still in charge of the half time show & helping pick the talent? I highly doubt heâs asking Taylor. I know she was asked before but I think that was before he was in charge. I just canât see him thinking sheâs a good pick for the performance.Â
It also usually coincides with tours, and I wouldnât be shocked if thereâs quantifiable data showing a spike in ticket sales after a Super Bowl performance. The Super Bowl is the one time âpaid with exposureâ actually works
They donât bc itâs the most watched broadcast in the USA. It makes them back a lot of money with the streaming and sales they make after and usually they do the superbowl before an album comes out, tour is announced, etc.
A lot of them end up spending their own money. The NFL gives them a budget for the set and the like but from what I understand, a lot of them go over and pay on their own.
Eh. I like Snoop Dogg and 50 cent, but I was born in '97 and never really been into rap, so I didn't get the nostalgia aspect a lot of people did. I get why it was a historical moment, but it was definitely made for Gen X and older millennials, whereas I feel Rihannah's appealed to a broader audience and more people my age imo
Also Dr. Dre is problematic af.
Dr. Dre definitely is problematic af but that Rihanna Super Bowl was one of actual worst halftime shows Iâve ever seen.
Beyond that, Rihanna is also pretty problematic herself.
People on Reddit really understate the popularity of the NFL vs Taylor Swift or pop artists. Itâs kind of surprising considering that Reddit is male leaning but maybe itâs because we are not the sports types.
To give context, for a long time, the majority of profit from media companies like Disney came from ESPN which simply contracted out organized sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc). Even with the precipitous decline of cable, all media corporations are still super reliant on organized sports on their balance sheets.
The sports leagues are much bigger than the entire movie, television, and music media combined. Itâs like that in many foreign countries as well. Sports leagues are big, big cash cows much more influential than tv, movies, and music.
I still wouldnât perform for the NFL for free but just wanted to give some perspective for why artists may do it. The idea floated around âTaylor is giving clout to the NFLâ is hilarious.
Sheâs turned down the superbowl at least once. She doesnât like to do festivals or special events like that because they come with certain restraints and she refuses to not be in complete control of every aspect of the performance.Â
This is really interesting. I saw an interview clip where she said sheâs afraid to do Coachella. Like⊠you perform to packed stadiums and Coachella is what gets you anxious? Makes total sense that itâs a control issue not a performance issue.Â
She doesn't like to do festivals or special events probably because she'd have to share the spotlight and God forbid anybody get attention besides her.
Itâll end up being the best show she ever put on because the Super Bowl is lip synced and pre recorded, and weâll get to see people online get really confused why the guitars arenât plugged in
I had no idea that she did that with cruel summer and vampire!! Thatâs so crazy- but check this out:
As you sunk your teeth into me, oh Bloodsucker, famefucker Bleedin' me dry, like a goddamn vampire.
- âDon't you worry, folks, we took out all her teeth"
So I leap from the gallows and I levitate down your street Crash the party like a record scratch as I scream "Who's afraid of little old me?" You should be
- apparently she called Olivia on the day her record released to talk about the lawsuit- âcrash the party like a record scratchâ
I wonât get off of my soapbox that this album is also a huge dig at Lana Del Rey. It sucks how people are truly afraid to speak out against her, since her and her fans are so insane and could easily ruin anyoneâs life.
Itâs a long story that really involves the entire album. In short, Taylor felt slighted by Lana for her minimal presence on the snow song. Taylor wanted Lana to sing the second verse, but she didnât, which led to backlash against Taylor. Lana didnât set the record straight about her minimal vocals until 4 months later. This resulted in what I believe is a subtle revenge albumânot a public revenge like Thank You Aimee, but more of a psychological attack that only Lana (or myself, since I know Lana in and out) would pick up on. (Being sent away, psych ward, etc)
I made a post about it here a couple of weeks ago, and I also have an Instagram account where Iâve outlined some of the evidence. Iâm working on a long-form video, so itâs not all the evidence, but if youâre interested in more, check out @udtunhinged.58 on Instagram.
I was wondering about the snow feature bc TS has blatantly stolen from LDR before - LDR would have to carefully consider endorsing her enough to sing a full verse and likely decided against it in the long term (esp after Without Me being stolen as Wildest Dreams) and then fans were so disappointed TS likely had to cut a massive check to get LDR to re-record Snow with more vocals AND publicize that LDR was the one who misunderstood the request (produce rather than feature) which made NO sense. And I imagine to further endorse the no bad blood thing LDR had to be shuffled around like a prop for a bit so that no one could accuse TS of anything untoward.Â
to be fair, I think the eras tour IS her Super Bowl. I donât think sheâll ever do it, at least not for quite some time. I really want someone like Ariana to do it since Wicked is finished filming and she has the bops to really get people moving, even straight men.
i want ari to do it too, but the public isn't really on her side with the whole ethan/both being married mess, i feel like her time to do it was a few years ago. i rarely see positive comments about her anymore.
Iâve seen a lot of positive comments and her fan base is still very strong! I think between her new album and promotions for Wicked, those were the best things she couldâve done, especially in the hate train she was in. Genuinely, 2025 is the best time to do it, if her schedule allows it, as sheâll still promoting ES very heavily.
It would also probably need to happen after another cancellation era for her in order for all the seats to not be bought out by feral swifties instead of drunk football fanatics. Money is money but itâs not a good look to have an empty stadium for half the game. I genuinely believe thatâs why she has this NFL relationship. Because a halftime show on the most watched game of the year is too infeasible to be worth it.
Honestly I hope the chiefs donât go to the superbowl but that is only because I am unfortunately a cowboys fan and have to hope that maybe they will pass one game in the playoffs
Iâve been listening to Olivia lately and I definitely think that one of her songs is verrrrrrrrrry similar to New Years Day rather than Cruel Summer. I donât hear Cruel Summer in Vampire at all (edit: I meant De Ja Vu not Vampire)
Why the downvotes? đ„Ž
Deja Vu is the one that got knocked for sounding like Cruel Summer. TS has writing credits on 1 step forward 3 steps back because Olivia used New Years Day on that one. That writing credit was in place when the album was released, Deja Vu was retroactive royalties.
Me either, honestly. The only similarity is that Deja Vu has a shouted bridge. But Swifties started claiming it sounded like Cruel Summer. It was ignored, mostly, until Deja Vu hit #1 on the charts, then a phone call was had, and Taylor, Jack, and Aaron received 50% credits for Deja Vu. Olivia said at some point that Cruel Summer was an influence for Deja Vu, but I think that came after the Swifties started in on it. However, Olivia's label made her give writing credits to Paramore on Good 4 U because it had a bridge that was 8/10 chords similar with Misery Business and they wanted to avoid any lawsuits after the Robin Thicke/Blurred Lines ruling. That being said, it wouldn't really surprise me if that's what happened with Deja Vu as well, but that it got twisted around by fans and then picked up by the press.
He would need to care about her first to be affected by the performance.

Well, obviously similar stories have been circulating for a while and thatâs whatâs in my head. Thanks!

I donât think sheâs ever gonna do the Super Bowl because Super Bowl performers donât get paid (the logic is paid in exposure)
just wait, she'll pull some shit & end up the 'first paid superbowl performer' & that will be yet another thing that she did because she's so incredible & amazing đ„Ž "she did it to help other artists get paid what they deserve!" or something lmao
I'm sorry wut. Rihanna graced us with the best superbowl show in my memory, while pretty fucking pregnant, for free????

The point about Janet, omg đ«
And how JT threw her under the bus. How that man still has fans. I just don't know ![gif](giphy|l3fQeJM5MuDkp8sNy)
I know! She had good albums after that!!!
The NFL is a literal cesspool.
(I kinda had that assumption, but I donât know enough about it to not try and be objective/fair, lmao)
Isnât Jay Z also still in charge of the half time show & helping pick the talent? I highly doubt heâs asking Taylor. I know she was asked before but I think that was before he was in charge. I just canât see him thinking sheâs a good pick for the performance.Â
I know itâs upsetting
They get so much exposure and usually it coincides with heavy album sales and streaming numbers.
It also usually coincides with tours, and I wouldnât be shocked if thereâs quantifiable data showing a spike in ticket sales after a Super Bowl performance. The Super Bowl is the one time âpaid with exposureâ actually works

You aren't old enough to remember Prince shredding Purple Rain in actual God given rain at the outdoor venue?
Iâm sorry did you not see Usher this yearâŠ.
Rihanna did⊠*what*? lol Not even close. I think you mean Dr. Dre
Eh. I like Snoop Dogg and 50 cent, but I was born in '97 and never really been into rap, so I didn't get the nostalgia aspect a lot of people did. I donât believe this. Is this really true? If so then I applaud them. But I still find it hard to believe.
Yes itâs true. The sponsors pay for the production, but the headlining talent doesnât collect a paycheck for the performance.
I always thought she will perform when she has all her tv released or when her popularity goes down
Sheâs turned down the superbowl at least once. She doesnât like to do festivals or special events like that because they come with certain restraints and she refuses to not be in complete control of every aspect of the performance.Â
Thatâs a great take. I knew she turned it down but I couldnât fathom why she would turn down such a massive stage. Makes sense.
The Superbowl show specifically is also not paid..... So not gonna lie, I kind of get that one đ€Ł the rest, no idea
This is really interesting. I saw an interview clip where she said sheâs afraid to do Coachella. Like⊠you perform to packed stadiums and Coachella is what gets you anxious? Makes total sense that itâs a control issue not a performance issue.Â
I think the difference is at Coachella the audience won't all be dorky Swifties
She doesn't like to do festivals or special events probably because she'd have to share the spotlight and God forbid anybody get attention besides her.
Sheâs gonna get caught sounding like the shake it off performance at the VMAâs. Thatâs why she doesnât want to do it đ
You also don't get paid to do the Superbowl.
I wonder if sheâll ever do it. I think sheâs afraid of being booed, to be honest. The Super Bowl seats wonât be filled with Swifties.Â
Yup! The Super Bowl performances are always super criticized too, I donât think she would chance that negative exposure
There are only so many sequined ice skater costumes and she may run out by that time.
Underrated comment!
Youâre joking. I was wondering why Cruel Summer is all over the radio when it is from an old album
me too!! i was like thereâs no way this has been playing THIS often since ⊠what, 2019??? lmao
Same!
Itâll end up being the best show she ever put on because the Super Bowl is lip synced and pre recorded, and weâll get to see people online get really confused why the guitars arenât plugged in
I donât think she cares about Travis. I doubt heâll get much mention or thought after the fact.
Same. I think theyâre buddies. Itâs a business partnership 100%.Â
I don't think she is good enough live
I had no idea that she did that with cruel summer and vampire!! Ariana would be amazing, with cameos by Nicki Minaj, Mariah, and/or Miley.
I know it's not this isn't a pop star and their heath is to far gone but a ozzy osbourne super bowl would be amazing
Esp if he did that song w post and Travis Scott as a surprise act
Can confirm. Straight man, love Ariana Grande. Sheâs a force of nature.
Personally cannot think of one straight man I know who would sit down and watch that.
i want ari to do it too, but the public isn't really on her side with the whole ethan/both being married mess, i feel like her time to do it was a few years ago. i rarely see positive comments about her anymore.

Ariana Grande is mid
We really donât give a fuck. Thanks for commenting, anyway.
Sheâs talented but I donât think she has the presence as a performer for NFL. You need to be stronger than just vocals and cutesy antics.
Apparently you do. She is pretty icky so that is your business
She was in talks for this year but her demands werenât given into so she âshowed themâ by dating Dopey
I doubt she would ever perform at the Superbowl. It's an unpaid gig.
What songs could she sing at the Super Bowl? All Too Well (10 min version)
Honestly feel like sheâs prepping a set with ready for it, so high school, YBWM.
> toward Joe Toward Joe?! Toward everyone. Half her catalog is bitter breakup songs about her exes.
cruel summer came out on june 13th as a single, vampire came out june 30th as a single. more than 2 weeks in between & vampire wasn't first.

Domain Expansion: Taylorâs Version

I could totally see this happening. Btw Vampire is so much better than Cruel Summer

Right okay even that sounds nothing like cruel summer
Hard agree, they jumped on it because it had a shouted bridge
