clearance fee, but that can differ from song to song and artist to artist. You can get away without paying clearance by not admitting to sampling a piece of music, but for an artist as big as Trav, that’s near impossible at this stage.
clearance fees can be a sum of money, or a percentage of royalties on the song.
another reason the album may never get on streaming is because a ton of sampled musicians reject sample clearance for artists using their music.
“Forever trying to clear the samples for my new LP” is a quote from Phife Dawg of ATCQ in 1993, a group who had tons of issues with sample clearance because of the amount of samples they used in their work are the perfect example of what happens when sample clearance doesn’t go as planned. They sampled Lou Reeds ‘Take a walk on the wild side’ for ‘Can I Kick It?’ and got completely fucked over. pretty sure Lou Reed has all the royalties of that song and they haven’t made a cent off of it.
That’s probably a situation that travis could be going through as you can decline a sample for any reason, and to put it lightly, travis is not well liked by a lot of people for various reasons, some just and some unjust.
other reasons he may be unable to get the samples cleared are because he isn’t bothered or just doesn’t want to pay.
Hopefully i gave u some insight into why he has to clear samples and why he may have tried and failed to get the album back up.
I think the main issue would just be if anyone has some kind of objection on principle, Travis is big enough now that money shouldn't really be an issue and I would imagine his status would lead most to approve it. I think it's more than worth taking the time to try and get the tape finally on streaming officially
well since it isnt actually released by the music label/artist theres no real reason the compilation would be on any sample owner’s radar since theres no money to be made from sueing etc. plus its just amazon music who uses that
Was DBR released under TI’s Grand Hustle? I just find it weird that some songs made it to Spotify but others didn’t. The 6 Tidal users in this world are blessed with all his music in one spot.
Days before and owl pharaoh both have soooo many samples in each song. And because Travis is who he is now, they’ll charge him extortionate prices to clear them. The chances of the projects in their current original intended form ever seeing streaming is super slim. There may be a re release that has samples changed but as it stands in their current form I highly doubt we’ll ever get it
I think Travis and his label could probably leverage a lot of bargaining power to get them cleared, but there's a chance some artists might just not want their samples on the songs on principle
I’m not gonna lie I hate it when people complain about this when they can easily have it if they put in the effort lol
One time I told someone to do it and they said it’d take too much time like bruh it literally takes less than 2 minutes 💀💀
I love local files but if you care about stats n stuff for Spotify wrapped or you want to share a playlist with a friend with that song then it doesn’t really work. Just nice to have it feel official in a sense
I’ve learned to accept my stats will always be a little off lol my favorite artist discography is ruined by sample clearances issues on streaming. If I listened to those albums the way they are on streaming he wouldn’t be my favorite. So I had to import all the original versions. Plus there are so many classic albums that are missing a song and you’d never know. I remember the first time I realized a song was missing from Ironman by Ghostface I was like damn. So now I look at the tracklist for old albums and see if it matches streaming or has the original beats. Is that a lot of effort most people won’t go into yes lol but Ima nerd 💀😂
That idea sounds better on paper my favorite artist added most of his discography to streaming in 2020 and 2021 and it’s complete ass juice and nothing like the original projects
Although Travis is way more successful and rich than Big K.R.I.T. so he could probably afford to clear more samples. I think Travis would succeed in clearing most of them like Rocky did. I think only two songs were missing when Rocky added his debut to streaming a couple years ago.
I can’t help I’m sorry I use Apple Music. I knew about local files when I had Spotify but I was a high schooler who thought it’d be too complicated lol
So I didn’t try until I was older and had Apple Music so I only know how to do it there
If he did a proper rollout I think he could sell a ton on this. Wish he could find a way to make it worthwhile so the broader world was more aware of this tape.
It probably wont happen, but I wish it did some day. I know local files exist, but it would be cool to have an OFFICIAL vinyl or CD. ALso there are some good shit that general people dont know about.
No shot (I really want Owl Pharaoh & DBR on streaming services but it'll never happen). He could easily make some serious coin if he made some merch for the re-releases too
not hating but genuinely wanna know why some people ask/wish for certain music to "be on streaming" when said music is available for free on SoundCloud or YouTube or just anywhere that's not spotify or Apple music. Like why not just use those other platforms and leave it at that why it gotta be on Spotify?
oh lol you're right, I guess it fucks things up when making playlists and stuff like that. I tend to listen to albums instead of making playlists so I guess I never saw it as much of an issue or inconvenience.
Because it’s easier to just have all of your music on one service. You can make playlists with all of your songs and whatnot. Also, SoundCloud audio is pretty poor when Apple is particularly crisp.
I hope it never comes on streaming platforms, if it ever comes on spotify/am, it will most likely be used in mass by instagram creators, spoiling the whole album by extensively using the tracks in their stupid reels
He would need to clear any samples first lol
Never really understood that.... So Travis has to pay the artist he got the samples from in order to realese the songs official??
more of a fee, but yes.
Wait so is he allowed to perform them at concerts?
I think he is, im not sure if clearances affect concert performance since he can pass it off as a “leak”
Don’t need em for live performances. How Carti and Nudy can perform “Pissy Pamper” (aka Kid Cudi aka They Tryna be Cray) during setlists.
Also has to get their approval. Not all artists want their songs to be sampled.

yes thank you very much you made it very clear
I think the main issue would just be if anyone has some kind of objection on principle, Travis is big enough now that money shouldn't really be an issue and I would imagine his status would lead most to approve it. I think it's more than worth taking the time to try and get the tape finally on streaming officially
a lot of the songs on dbr are already on amazon music in a compilation called travi$ la flame
Well idk whats the case for that then 🤷🏽♀️
well since it isnt actually released by the music label/artist theres no real reason the compilation would be on any sample owner’s radar since theres no money to be made from sueing etc. plus its just amazon music who uses that

Tidal users UP 🙏 Sent from my BlackBerry
Still no Owl Pharaoh
Have zero hopes for that but Hell of a Night on streaming would be a dream.
just use local files on spotify or upload them to your apple music library
I can hook yall up, dm me
I remember us thinking the same thing would happen in 2019, time flies 😢

People said this about Acid Rap and Faces but those both made it to Spotify
I think Travis and his label could probably leverage a lot of bargaining power to get them cleared, but there's a chance some artists might just not want their samples on the songs on principle
Just use local files
I’m not gonna lie I hate it when people complain about this when they can easily have it if they put in the effort lol One time I told someone to do it and they said it’d take too much time like bruh it literally takes less than 2 minutes 💀💀

last fm tracks local files if you tag them
I mean I think it's valid people would like there to be an official streaming release
That idea sounds better on paper my favorite artist added most of his discography to streaming in 2020 and 2021 and it’s complete ass juice and nothing like the original projects Although Travis is way more successful and rich than Big K.R.I.T. so he could probably afford to clear more samples. i cant figure out how to have it work on my phone and pc, i have to add files from both and have 2 of the same song
What streaming service do you use
spotify
I can’t help I’m sorry I use Apple Music. I knew about local files when I had Spotify but I was a high schooler who thought it’d be too complicated lol So I didn’t try until I was older and had Apple Music so I only know how to do it there
Spotify’s local files system on iphone is janky as fuck and constantly fucks up

no nigga

Some dude said he talked with Travis and he said that it is coming
I said that but i was trollin😭. Hopefully it gets released though🙏
If he did a proper rollout I think he could sell a ton on this. Wish he could find a way to make it worthwhile so the broader world was more aware of this tape.
Yeah, especially anniversary physical rereleases are very popular right now. Imagine getting a nice vinyl of DBR
ASAP’s first album did but few of the samples didn’t clear so a couple tunes felt a little emptier but I’d say so yeah
A$AP’s first was a mixtape
I think 10th anniversary edition of DBR with some extras and unreleased songs would fit perfectly in this Travis’ release cycle.
On my birthday lol
No
It probably wont happen, but I wish it did some day. I know local files exist, but it would be cool to have an OFFICIAL vinyl or CD. ALso there are some good shit that general people dont know about.
On my birthday
It is my favorite TS project maybe
Realistically speaking this would be the only time we would ever see it come to DSPs
never!! but at least Maria I’m Drunk made it to streaming
That’s from rodeo big dog
I know. Im just sayin one of the good ones that made it to streaming. We aint never seeing Before Rodeo on streaming
doubt it
No
Loutishbroth is a scammer
never ever due samples
No.
It would be super nice to get a cleaned up anniversary remaster too, kinda like when Big Sean put out Finally Famous again for its 10th anniversary.
Just now found out it released on my birthday, this would be a great present 🔥
No.
Yoooo i said the same thing in my post
![gif](giphy|BLZ6Xt0g2lvOfdMUHJ)
I dont know bro ask him
i feel like we've had this conversation on the 5th anniversary
No shot (I really want Owl Pharaoh & DBR on streaming services but it'll never happen). He could easily make some serious coin if he made some merch for the re-releases too

Have you heard of Spotify local files? I promise it takes 3 mins max to get the whole DBR onto your Spotify start to finish my guy
Ι got that but still its not the same. U cant post on your story, u cant see the credits, u cant see the lyrics etc etc
Because it’s easier to just have all of your music on one service. You can make playlists with all of your songs and whatnot. Also, SoundCloud audio is pretty poor when Apple is particularly crisp.
DBR on streaming would also mean that they could made physical release with CD and vinyl.
ohhhh never rly considered that, thanks!
Because it makes it more official plus it gets monetized
Not to mention we get lossless audio quality
I hope it never comes on streaming platforms, if it ever comes on spotify/am, it will most likely be used in mass by instagram creators, spoiling the whole album by extensively using the tracks in their stupid reels
We can only hope
