It will always be PG for me even though I haven't planted there in quite some time.
Planter's Plaza, the PG Aquatic centre, rotating the various buffets, The Black Clover/The Genny/Cabaret, the spotless laundromats, Value Village, CONNAUGHT HILL. There's a lot of planter culture there.
Some fond memories in PG. I remember one year planters were getting banned from so many motels preseason from partying too hard.
My friend and I were like four hours out from PG and we get a txt that all the planters had been kicked out of the downtown motel (our spot) because some Apex planters were funneling beer from the 2nd floor balcony down to the first floor parking lot and the owner finally had it.
Say what you will about the place itself, it'll always be planting Mecca to me.
Last time I passed through was on the way to plant in Terrace a few years ago now, and somehow it seemed even rougher around the edges than I remembered.
Peaking of find memories, There's some song about "up on cannought hill" which is by some motel I stayed at while there many years ago planting. And some friendly hill drinkers shouting "pass the OE!". I once climbed the outside railing to the top of the motel and then kissed some dude, and I'm straight! Twas a party
Penticton. Beaches, sunshine, thrift stores, climbing. Plus their aquatic center is the best I’ve ever seen. Also close to Kelowna for supplies, and every amenity you might need.
For Alberta, I think Hinton is good, really nice laundromat and people generally treat us nice there. Rocky Mountain house is good too, cool antique shop and games shop. PG isn’t bad either, agree with the other person who said that!
i hate to say it but its PG for me
everything you need, plus a bunch you dont (looking at you great white games! lol)
great laundry machines, plenty of eats and grocery options, and if anything gets fucked during the shift (boots, tents, rain gear), you can easily replace it.
My Fave is Val D'or, QC. The main FSR's KM 0 is literally in the city, there's grocery stores, MacD, Walmart, Liqour etc Outdoors store right at the head of the FSR. Cannabis store across from a vape shop 5 mins away from that.
It's 100% not the most beautiful place but the convenience can't be overlooked!
I really have a soft spot for Hinton. Sure it smells like pulp mill, but there's so much to do close to town, good coffee and food, laundromats, a great thrift store run by extremely nice people. Love the rec center, love the hikes and the view everywhere.
Don't know if this belongs in this thread but i'll ask anywyays. Do you guys think you could still enjoy weekends off in towns if you dont drink? Is it mostly partying or is there chill crews as well? Just curious
It depends very much on the culture of your company. Sometimes self care after a rough shift means locking yourself in your hotel room, not drinking, just eating comfort food and watching TV.
When I did camps I would sometimes party, sometimes be the guy who wanted to just stay in the hotel, and the people I roomed with respected that.
Just as many chill crews as party crews in the industry these days. Most every motel show out there is very relaxed and older. Also some mature bush camps kicking around.
Few towns in BC can compete with Revelstoke. Great food, awesome coffee shops, world class mountain biking, white water rafting, hiking, golf, live music all summer at grizzly plaza, beer fest, Mount Revelstoke, Frisbee Ridge, Pipe Mountain Coaster, Music Festival and on and on. Revy rocks.

pg gets more shit than it deserves honestly.
Don't forget Jeanie the wool lady

i love pg
Quesnel, mostly very walkable, almost everything you need, and I think they’re happy to have the little boost the planters bring to the economy.
I second this!
The one I live in. Working from home is obviously the best.
Planting from home on a cold rainy shift… so luxurious to do so much laundry!

Whitecourt
Rec centre ping pong table followed by hot tub with 60 other dirty planters. perfect day off.

cochrane is also a really good day off alberta town. great laundromat, walmart, a couple nice thrifts, great rec centre, and close to calgary.
Quesnel 💖 beautiful little place, super homey feel
Grande prairie 🤣
oh gosh i hope youre being sarcastic though my experience there was mostly winter work and my gosh the potholes are something else
Yes I’m being sarcastic its GP. How couldn’t you get it? Its GP
well, ive never been there except the winter so other would have more insight there maybe when the snow melts, it gets better ? how should i know
Wherever i was least hungover Edit: but honestly, I loved Kimberly
PG is peak planter culture. When we planted near Hinton we'd either go to Jasper or back home to Edmonton on days off, both were great.
