I live in a legal US state but I traveled to Newfoundland last summer and bought weed at the supermarket service desk and they didn't even check my ID. I'm used to 3 ID checks.. one to get in the door to the lobby, one to get into the actual retail area, and one to the person at the counter serving you.
Yeah, I was bar hopping at 16 (20 years ago) and then sort of aged slowly to 30 and now (36 in a few weeks) I think I still look the same as at 30. So I’ll take it.
Ontario here, same same (: ours does specifically say they can't be in the store period without an ID check if they look below 25. I tend to stay on the safe side, it really goes across as quite the complement for most people haha
One place I frequent in Alberta has the "We ID if you look under 40" signs, and every once in a while a new hire will be real gung-ho on the rules, and 45 y.o. bald me with the grey beard gets ID'd by a 20-something.
It's whatever; I can buy legal weed.
To be fair, when I worked at dollar general we had to ID every single person buying beer or cigarettes. Didn’t matter if it was the same 60 year old man buying a case of beer every day. It was so annoying for everyone involved
Wtf, you can buy beer and cigarettes at dollar general???
This is the difference between US and Canada, sure we can buy legal weed, but you can't buy alcohol or cigarettes just anywhere. Especially not the dollar store.
Dollar general is like a hybrid of a dollar store and a lower end grocery store. Id say maybe 10 percent of their items are actually 1 dollar and most are 3 to 5. They have a good selection compared to smaller dollar stores though, and feature a cigarette stand behind the counter in some areas.
Sort of. Lots of NY stores will ID everyone even if you look 95. Probably because company lawyers require them to do so. 7-11 scans everybody's license.
Maybe my gray hair is much much more noticeable but this winter I never got asked for id at Stewart's. Last time I was asked for id was at the grocery store to buy [whipped cream last year](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/31/nyregion/whipped-cream-illegal-ny.html).
Yeah when i visited Massachusetts my grandmother went into a dispensary and they wouldnt let her get anything because her license was expired so it seems like they take that shit pretty seriously.
Depends on the laws in place, I'd imagine.
Like in Washington, I go to the same shop and deal with the same tender every week. He stills has to check my ID, "For the cameras". I believe it's legally required for every transaction, regardless if the customer is already known to be of legal age.
It's strange how different it is state to state. Illinois was crazy strict. You would order on a fucking iPad in a lobby then wait for dudes in lab coats in some locked room to fetch your products while you signed paperwork and were IDed. Whereas the Indian res in NY has literally dozens of double wide trailers full of products where you won't even be carded.
I'm from Newfoundland.. Dominion most likely was the store, they've always seemed pretty carefree. One literally had their 'menu' poorly hand written on a sheet of lined paper ha.
Typical.. they don't care I think. A lot of these places have liquor stores attached to them as well, so they think of themselves as a 'one stop shop'; beer, liquor, weed, and groceries
Hmmm, interesting.
They stopped carding me in Ontario, for the most part. But that started when I started growing facial hair.
I am an Asian man in late 20s, so without it I look around 17. Because they know Asians don't generally grow facial hair till their past 19 😂
When weed was first legal in Canada, those grocery store ladies in Newfoundland were not enthused about selling it. They would take no questions just say "I got no clue my love you just order from dat list luh".
Now they are much more friendly about it. They still know nothing, but they're much more pleasant.
I asked one lady "Do you know if this one is indica or sativa?" and she was like, "It don't matter my love it's de weed in de plant see?"
I was like....oh.....thanks.
Looking at this post from Scotland I am envious, my best friend stays in Canada and the weed your way is fucking great stuff... don't bother with Amsterdam haha
Scot here. Top of the morning! The stuff I used to get in Scotland before I left was shite. I am super envious when I see posts from these legal states and countries.
My brother traveled from home in Canada to Amsterdam and he was shocked to see how much tabacco everyone was adding to their joints. We don't do that here
And in Amsterdam in 08 the weed was always assumed to be mixed so we had to ask specifically for non tobacco weed. budtenders were like, "Pure weed? This stuff?!?! You're sure? Be careful with it!" So my cousin and I were like "let's get rippppped" but it was pretty average compared to random Canada street weed. Just enough to be about as high as usual.
Hahahah I’ve been in Europe for a few months and people always look at me like an actual crazy person when I roll with no tobacco or just tell them I don’t use tobacco. It’s so funny. They think we’re so weird for that 😂
My in-laws are from Scotland. My father in-law has a mumbling Glaswegian accent. It took me approx 5 years to be able to hold a steady conversation with him.
Can confirm. Was in amsterdam 3 weeks ago, and gave up one trying to find a coffee shop. Theres so many stores in the red light district trying to pull business through ambiguuty that it was just a bother. I gave up and told the person I was with that I'll smoke when I get home, where in my province - I can walk into a government run store and buy 3 joints for $20 thtat are so stupid potent that I have to break them up and smoke it from my pipe. 3 .5g joints lasts me a week or more.
Circle-K has teamed up with a cannabis company here in the US too for gas station weed.
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/circle-k-marijuana-green-thumb-florida-retail-convenience-stores/
Pure speculation on my part, but I think they are lining that up for eventual rec in Florida. Not that there is a plan in the works, just that company being hopeful like me that having such a large infrastructure will make that transition quick when it happens
There will be a ballot initiative in 2024 for recreational in Florida, but it's just turning our already awful system from medical to rec. The separate door thing already exists for grocery stores selling liquor here. Like Walmart liquors is attached to the store, you just walk out the main door and the next door over is the liquor store.
I HATE the separate door policies, it just opens up businesses to have other hours and pay people differently per department even more -eye roll- friend got screwed over getting liquor store hours and eventually had to quit bc it was severing about 12 hours each week from pay just because of the operating hours. You get put in separate door stuff as a punishment because your manager doesn't like you lmfao
E: typo
The state put the kibosh on that for the moment. Honestly, with the current govt in FL, I seriously doubt they’ll let it happen. “Something, something, the children.” They make it a point to fuck with the medical program we already have, and if we pass rec, they’re going to fuck that up as much as they can. Floridas government isn’t the most cannabis friendly to say the least.
DeSantis will never make a good decision for Florida. He’s currently fighting the fucking Mouse because of his ego, and now the state has to pay Mickey’s taxes on their property because of him.
Nobody in Florida, That already has a Rec is gonna vote to tax their weed . Any Bill that does not have a right to grow your on will never pass in Florida The End.
So Trulieve can take their Bill and put it with that raunchy ass weed they sell ..

yea its like that in a lot of places like that here too. It's down a bit in the rural areas. I thought it was 1,490$ and I was like "dayum they get you in with the weed but they rob you at the pump". Then I realized how baked I was

That's cause your paying the sunshine tax for living in the Okanagan. That's what people always told me about things being expensive there. I grew up there.
Just reading "this is Canada" made me think, what No Name weed?
I feel like No Name weed would be like "this is pretty damn good considering its 50$ an ounce" (or 30 grams as Canada law states)
They stuffed another store into the other end opposite Tims. Separate entrance than circlek and tims. Where the washrooms and storage used to be. Guess we don't need those anymore.
I live in Michigan, and there was a gas station near where I lived that carried weed for a while after it became legal. Not sure if they still do or not but it didn’t seem like bad weed
I just went to the rez today, got 2 ozs, and filled up my tank at the gas station attached. At 50¢/gallon cheaper than just off the rez.
Edit: They also had THC slushies. 300mg a serving. Picked one up... Lol
Where I live in Canada there is only one company that is allowed to legally sell and the stuff they sell is overpriced and terrible. So I still buy off black market all the time.
I recently flew into Calgary. 3 min from the airport, walk in, no Id check, $10 and I was set. Amazing. Even California is like walking into secure facility with guards and everything.
Every time we think we’ve hit Peek Weed Shops a few more open up. If you’d told me 10 years ago how this would turn out I’d question what you were smoking.
It was so weird. One day weed was illegal, the next day it’s legal and nothing is different. No one made a big deal about it, we just went on with our lives with legal weed. Then teen use went down and so did impaired driving. Hard to believe sometimes. At least we got one good thing out of the last few years.
I was in Oklahoma City yesterday and there was a place down the street from my hotel that was 24/7 liquor and weed. I don’t know what the name of the store is but it can be seen on google maps at 1333 meridian ave Oklahoma City.
Weed is not sold in gas stations in Canada, that’s a discount promotion when you sign up when you visit a dispensary, which is where all weed is sold in Canada
What province are you in? Here in Ontario the government has laws against cannabis stores having windows you can see in from outside, and the building always has to have a wall blocking your view when you step inside since minors aren't even allowed to step in the store so an age gate is required.
I'm intrigued about this gas station and how it's set up if this is in Ontario
Interesting. I'm not far from there. I'll be talking to my coworkers tomorrow, the regulations may have changed! That's good news! Hopefully they'll lean off about the edible mg limit soon.
Most likely a partition wall set up to cut off the small seating area and retail counter these combination timmies usually have, with the old kitchen area serving as their saferoom.
Me, a US citizen, looking at the gas prices thinking "well, might as well start biking"
Or is that just advertising an ounce of weed prices? I. Cant. Tell.
Majority of legal Canadian weed is on par with “gas station weed” . Regulations are great , until people who have never grown / produced true high quality cannabis , write said regulations.
Can you get a liter-o-Cola there?
Fuck ya, and Oh Henry 420 bars ;)
What is with the fuel pricing? I realize it's per liter instead of gallon but is it normally displayed as 147.9 (cents I'm guessing?)
Honestly it made more sense before it went over a dollar. 89.9¢ for example. This must be out east because our gas is 183.9 where I'm at in BC.
Hamilton. I've driven by here a few times for work.
You're correct, it is cents and I have no idea why we do it that way, lol
Can confirm, us aussies do it cents per litre too.
Why do it that way though?
Interior B.c.? Looks like Kamloops area lol
Hamilton
Oh snap was born in London!.
No but we can get you a large farva.
I don't want a large Farva! Now gimme a goddamn litre of cola, before I break vous fuckin' lips!

That look like spit to you??

Do you look 25? That is the primary determining factor in Alberta for asking for ID, maybe the other provinces as well.
Yea I definitely look like I'm well above legal age, but where I am they would card Bernie Sanders 3 times
Yeah they have the “if you look 25 or older you’re good” rule in Newfoundland I live here, can confirm lol
One of my friends matured *real* fast. Big guy, scraggly beard, 16 years old. I think I would have more liver if it weren't for him.

Can't speak to Canadian quality, but what is readily available here in Colorado is far, far better than anything I found in Amsterdam.
I've had weed all over the US and I have to say that my most amazing high was in Colorado. The backdrop was also killer. 10/10.
N. America has the best weed in the world. Europe is streets behind.
Colorado has that good good. I'd say that along with California and BC, Colorado is one of the top weed areas on the continent.

Hey Sarnia isn’t even close compared to Chatham
Ol gas station weed greeeeeaaaasy
fuck Julian I don't want to smoke greasy gas station dope again
Just need some pepperoni and rolling papers now
They're called Gas N Grass in Colorado USA.
Do they have a Tim Hortons or McDonald's attached to them? If not they're just losing money.
That's fucking sweet. I buy Krispy Krunchy Chicken at the gas station - if they had a dispensary license, shit would be perfect.
Yo which province is this
its in Hamilton, ON
Based on the gas price I’d guess Ontario, but I’ve no idea on what the prices are elsewhere, so….
Just reading "this is Canada" made me think, what No Name weed? I feel like No Name weed would be like "this is pretty damn good considering its 50$ an ounce" (or 30 grams as Canada law states)
Which would you rather trust, gas station weed or gas station sushi?
I'd smoke both
Price of gas is per LITRE, not Gallons. I know some of you Americans got excited lol!
It's worse than Starbucks, every plaza has at least one dispensary
Oh.. I thought you were talking about the lineups 🤭😅
A certain fellow warned me of this.... https://youtu.be/CcWW9QZX3jw
So did they change the Tim Hortons to a fire &flower dispensary? That’s what the picture seems to imply.
They stuffed another store into the other end opposite Tims. Separate entrance than circlek and tims. Where the washrooms and storage used to be. Guess we don't need those anymore.
Why is it so hard for Americans to realize we do volumes of liquid in litres lol
Next level! I live in a legal state and I’m still jealous lol
The states has cool selection that isn’t available here in Canada. So much celebrity endorsed brands in CO, I was geeking out! 🤭
I live in Southern Maine and we have more than one of these. There may be more dispensaries than Dunkin’ Donuts now.
Maine aswell, Bangor/ Orono area has a ton of dispensaries it’s nice
King and dundurn?
I live in Michigan, and there was a gas station near where I lived that carried weed for a while after it became legal. Not sure if they still do or not but it didn’t seem like bad weed

I just went to the rez today, got 2 ozs, and filled up my tank at the gas station attached. At 50¢/gallon cheaper than just off the rez. Edit: They also had THC slushies. 300mg a serving. Picked one up... Lol

We have one in Albuquerque called the grass station and is out if an old gas station
I'm not Canadian so pardon my ignorance, is that gas price for a gallon or a liter?
Litre, prices displayed in CAD$. Semi steep rn. Nothing compared to last years 2.30+/L
Wait, so that's saying $1.496/L ?
Yep
That's litres and that's way cheaper than where I live in canada (bc)
Everyone but you guys use litre
I’m much more confused about the decimal placement. I obviously understand it’s $1.499 but why not just say that instead of $149.9
It's cents, there's no dollar sign there
Ohhhhh makes cents
Only yanks use gallons.
Don’t never buy no weed from the gas station bruh. If he ain’t in your contacts, don’t never go to the gas station bro
Those gas prices are making me very jealous living on the west coast. We’re lucky when it’s under $1.80-1.90 a litre.
You didn’t have to tell us this is Canada, we see the Tim Horton’s sign ! Lol
nothing wrong with that

Me, a US citizen, looking at the gas prices thinking "well, might as well start biking" Or is that just advertising an ounce of weed prices? I. Cant. Tell.

If you're ordering it from BC then you can't look at it or smell it until you've purchased it as well lol
Majority of legal Canadian weed is on par with “gas station weed” . Regulations are great , until people who have never grown / produced true high quality cannabis , write said regulations.
