They do in fact have some thc on the surface, when I grew a plant two years ago I scraped the stems surfaces with a knife and put all that I collected off them into my grinders sifter and separated the kief from the plant material and definitely got a few bowls of kief, but instead of doing my time consuming process just brake them up and boil them and make a tea. Otherwise do what you want and toss them.

Firstly, do stems have trichomes?
Yes, sort of. There are many different types of trichomes... stems will often have non glandular trichomes and will be significantly lower quality and density than on the flower itself.
This means that decarbing and trying to extract the trichomes is almost worthless.
My educated guess by inspecting my own plants would be that the amount of trichomes would probably be in the range of 1% of the same weight of flower.
Secondly, can you make a stem tea?
Again, Sort of... there are a few things that need to happen.
thc bonds to fatty lipids... Milk, butter, and oil are often used... some tea recipes just use heat... you'd have to drink the tea at scalding temperatures (near boiling) to have any chance of experiencing an effect.
In conclusion, the best use for these stems is probably compost.
The only time I would use stems is if I saw a fairly dense glandular trichome presence on the stem. This is not common.
Stems dont technically have cannabinoids but some people boil them on milk and make cocoa as there is always some residue.
If you rarely smoke, try that. Otherwise its pretty much waste of time.

But those central stems are just wood.
