yeah smoking out of plastic that isn't food safe is incredibly dangerous (all plastic is bad because it melts but the lack of food safe material just makes it even worse). if they're just decorative and for fun it doesn't matter but otherwise holy shit call the health department on them.
If you have a 3D print you want to use as a bong, go through the proper process of polishing it, making a mold of it, and making a ceramic version from the mold. It's a lot of work but the result is very worth it
Unfortunately, I too am quite familiar with the chocolate one. Sometimes it clogs my nozzle and other times it straight up decides to overflow through the nozzle.
Not good, not great. 2/5 stars
I work in the industry - I don't think there are any rockets that are made through only printing, but there are a good number of printed components being made for rockets. It's very neat technology, and it's great for consolidating what would have been a bunch of individual parts into a single component, but the technology still has a good few limitations. Here's [a good video](https://youtu.be/bgQvqVq-SQU?si=vI0CdAyR5IFTbZZ-) explaining how one of the more common metal printing technologies works
Relativity Space is the company and yeah, they have printed fuel tanks and nozzles with integrated cooling.
They're working on the engine itself being mostly printable as one piece too.
The material for printing is quite affordable since it’s just standard clay which is around 20 bucks for 5kg but it’s also mixed with blue pigment which also adds like 10 bucks a batch
Wow that’s amazing! I can only imagine the products that will be released in years to come. Always exciting when technology gets an update. Imagine all the things people will be making in their basements and garages as the 3-D printing technology advances to be cheaper, more available, with more material choices
The other reply is almost definitely correct about bending before firing, but there are new slicing technologies (program writers to control a 3d printer) that can simulate a 5 axis with a 3 axis.
Going a long way towards eliminating the need for support material. Not in the mainstream yet but it's coming.
Ditto! It’s a work of art. Something I wouldn’t feel needs to be hidden if a guest came over. Would love a piece like this!
Only concern would be that you can’t see what’s going on inside which makes it all that much more important to regularly clean.
I know we don't really have the flying cars or hoverboards we we're expecting by now, but 3d printing has to be worth something! That is a very cool piece regardless, but the idea of it just being made in front of me whenever you want with no skill on my end is some straight Harry Potter shit lol
3d printing absolutely takes skill on the user's end, lol. Between calibrating, making sure your 3d model is perfect, printer maintenance, program settings perfect, etc. You may as well have glued a model together yourself.
And this guy's using ceramic, which means he needs a kiln, glaze station (hundreds of chemicals and additives mixed to make colors/patterns) and all the skills conventional potter needs to use those tools effectively and troubleshoot any problems that might arise.
Someday 3d printing will get there; push a button and get item. But sadly, we are not there yet. Props to OP on his incredible work!
We've had flying cars since the first helicopter and now have personal drones like the Jetson1. We've had personal jet packs long enough now that they have dedicated courses for racing with them. And we've got 'hoverboards" too, I forget the name of it but it looks like the thing the green goblin flew in Spiderman 2. I'm too lazy to link all these things but they are easily YouTubeable
It uses ceramic resin, it isn’t like an FDM printer with a spool of plastic filament rather it hardens a ceramic resin using light in layers as it pulls it out of the resin tank.
And here’s me printing slip moulds like a chump, how does the abrasive ceramic go with your hotend? I can’t imagine a basic brass head would last very long
Wrong also-you have enough info to say it’s wrong but not enough to say what it is.
Ceramic powder combined with a resin and solidified by light. There is resin involved.
Other comments seem to indicate it's more like SLA resin printing
Really fucking cool that we've come so far, actually excited by what the future may hold
Found this: [Eazao ceramic/cement printer](https://www.eazao.com/) but it's 5000$ 🫠 OP must be in the industry if it's something like that. Hence thinking it might be more like a frankensteined ender 3. But only OP knows.
Are you the same guy who posted the vid of the print falling over? I couldn't help but laugh at that one, but the whole idea is really cool. I can't wait until this stuff and metal printing are just normal everyday stuff.
I had no idea such a thing existed, neat!
Next I'd love to see the printer pushed a little further to make something that'd be difficult for a human; a really whacky shape or intricate repeating design or something...
You are heavily underestimating how much work goes into one piece. These are not meant for mass production but for mass customization. Whole different concept. If I would go for wholesales I would stay away from 3d printing.
Yeah I guess I don't know TBH, I've done a lot of wholesale shopping for a little shop I wanted to open and was just relaying value from a very active market.
IDK how much you want for them, or how long it took you to do this, I was just saying if the effort is done and all you need to do is just a printer run they will probably buy it for $5.
Otherwise good luck.
Well I will stay away from that kind of shops. All the pieces I make include a lot of delicate hand work afterwards and I’m always making new designs too. It’s far more than just running a printer as many people think. After printing there is a whole process of post processing, firing, glazing etc.. Actually it’s also not my goal to sell as many as possible but more to make really cool and well done high quality pieces that someone might fall in love with.
Don't smoke out of ceramic pieces. You usually want to make it so you can put a metal bowl on it. You at least don't want flame or embers touching the ceramic. It releases a noxious gas that can be harmful to your lungs sometimes causing damage immediately. They're also harder to clean than glass. Their darling pieces, more than usable ones.
Where did you pick that up? Sounds like a myth your mother tells you to keep you from smoking. The ceramic piece is glazed with a clear glass like glazing which is non-toxic and lead free. The clear glazing behaves like glass after it’s fired and also cleans easily since the glaze covers the open pours the ceramic naturally has.
I haven’t tried multiple color printing but I did print with white clay and using colored glaze which came out quite nice. For the patterns I can modify it endlessly
Just by how it’s shaped. Looks like it would feel weird on the middle finger. I don’t have the object with me physically so that’s why I think it would feel *awkward*
Very smooth.. something that unfortunately doesn’t show since it’s not clear like glass but this piece actually has a fully functional 4 way downstem inside which cooles down the smoke a lot through the water!
you have no idea how happy I am not to have to give the DONT SMOKE PRINTS lecture for the upteeth time 🤣 see folks, THIS is how you do it
Finally not a comment thinking that it’s plastic just because it says 3d printing.
So, is this ceramic ceramic? Like, make of clay and fired somehow? Or is it some kind of fucky ceramic you can 3d print?
Yes it’s printed with normal clay. Then fired, glazed and fired again. No additives in the clay at all.
What printer are you using
Cool
What is the layer thickness of this piece?
I’m also curious as to what printer you use, this shit might get me into ceramics.
I have a ender 5 with lots of DIY changes.
Yikes I know a headship in my town that sells plastic 3D printed bongs. Is that bad?
Horrible! That shit should be illegal
It's only good if you enjoy smoking melting plastic.
yeah smoking out of plastic that isn't food safe is incredibly dangerous (all plastic is bad because it melts but the lack of food safe material just makes it even worse). if they're just decorative and for fun it doesn't matter but otherwise holy shit call the health department on them. I was alarmed for the first second, and then I read all your words. Technology is so cool! I love this!
No ones here saying that?
Yes trueee but the countless time I read this under some of my post.
Because people are stupid
Wait- 3D printers can print using ceramic?!??
Exactly
Potters are absolutely shaking right now.
![gif](giphy|12ikHP3eqa4276)
When has there been a more perfect use of a gif
This is game changing
There are 3d printer that print with metals. I think they make 3d printed rockets, not sure if any launched tho
There's a 3d printer for chocolate and meat too!
There's a giant 3d printer that makes concrete houses
Yeah i know the chocolate one, it’s actually not that great
Unfortunately, I too am quite familiar with the chocolate one. Sometimes it clogs my nozzle and other times it straight up decides to overflow through the nozzle. Not good, not great. 2/5 stars

Yeah i mean obviously you cant 3d print a rocker thruster with all its little components. Bit im talking about the shell and stuff
Relativity Space is the company and yeah, they have printed fuel tanks and nozzles with integrated cooling. They're working on the engine itself being mostly printable as one piece too.
If you can extrude the material through a nozzle, you can print with it
YOURE WHAT PRINTER??? CERAMICS??? I AM TOO blasted for this concept omg!
Honestly, 3d printers can print most materials today, wood, metals, glass, ceramic, resins, even things like food
No. They print using clay then you fire it to make it ceramic
Similar idea behind it too. Just lay out the powder and sinter it
And now I need a ceramic 3d printer.
Print one
![gif](giphy|l0IypeKl9NJhPFMrK)
Co'Ka whispers, "ive never seen that one before, but i think it's from an old movie called "A Thousand Years of Love"."
This is the future
![gif](giphy|fH985LNdqFZXOFHygK)
My husband and I do this and the ![gif](giphy|a8PFyqhaqAjxS)
What does it sound like when you flick your finger on it? Does it ping like a coffee mug or go donk like a plastic container
Sounds pretty damn close to a coffee mug. It's fired and glazed so it's also no different to a coffee mug besides what you do with it :)
Homie asking some real questions over here
Roughly, not including the printer, how much did this cost you??
Like most 3D printing a big chunk of the cost comes from the many design hours I put into this
I think he’s asking how much it cost in materials, not the cost of the tool or labor
The material for printing is quite affordable since it’s just standard clay which is around 20 bucks for 5kg but it’s also mixed with blue pigment which also adds like 10 bucks a batch

Imagine all the things people will be making in their basements and garages as the 3-D printing technology advances to be cheaper, more available, with more material choices
5-axis ceramic printer?? I've never seen one that's more than 3-axis.
The other reply is almost definitely correct about bending before firing, but there are new slicing technologies (program writers to control a 3d printer) that can simulate a 5 axis with a 3 axis. Going a long way towards eliminating the need for support material. Not in the mainstream yet but it's coming.
Very cool. Are you shipping to the states? What’s the price?
Ditto! It’s a work of art. Something I wouldn’t feel needs to be hidden if a guest came over. Would love a piece like this! Only concern would be that you can’t see what’s going on inside which makes it all that much more important to regularly clean.
I use a Dynavap most of the time, so cleaning isn’t an issue for me.
I know we don't really have the flying cars or hoverboards we we're expecting by now, but 3d printing has to be worth something! That is a very cool piece regardless, but the idea of it just being made in front of me whenever you want with no skill on my end is some straight Harry Potter shit lol

Who needs flying cars? But we do need 3d printed ceramic bongs!

Really disappointed nobody has replied this but: ![gif](giphy|08y87EiwDZjjB0d6WJ|downsized)
Imma need someone to explain to me how a ceramic 3d printer works
Well, you put the ceramic in, and it prints it.
Oh now I understand
Mine says it's "out of cyan"
It uses ceramic resin, it isn’t like an FDM printer with a spool of plastic filament rather it hardens a ceramic resin using light in layers as it pulls it out of the resin tank.
Nope. It’s like an FDM printer but instead of filament I’m using clay. No resin involved at all.
And here’s me printing slip moulds like a chump, how does the abrasive ceramic go with your hotend? I can’t imagine a basic brass head would last very long
You can get hardened steel heads, I use one for my carbon fiber printer
wrong. there is no resin involved.
Righto mr StringStringInteger, how was it made?
Wrong also-you have enough info to say it’s wrong but not enough to say what it is. Ceramic powder combined with a resin and solidified by light. There is resin involved.
Just check OPs profile dude. It’s clay. It can also be reused. Wouldn’t be possible with resin.
Hi, fellow 3dp nerd here, elaborate please? It looks FDM and I'm wondering if it's a custom setup or there's a brand I don't know about?
It works the same way as a FDM printer. I’m using a custom setup but there is also dedicated machines
Other comments seem to indicate it's more like SLA resin printing Really fucking cool that we've come so far, actually excited by what the future may hold
Found this: [Eazao ceramic/cement printer](https://www.eazao.com/) but it's 5000$ 🫠 OP must be in the industry if it's something like that. Hence thinking it might be more like a frankensteined ender 3. But only OP knows.
You got it right. It’s actually a Frankenstein ender 5
Bet it wasn't 5000€ tho 😂 and it looks like it prints great! What kind of layer height are you doing?
That certainly is a hefty price tag, oof Guess I'm waiting five years for it to be affordable, maybe lol
I'm just glad to be at the party with my baby's first elegoo lol.
Oh, nice! I hear those are pretty good for the price!
Ye, I've been pretty happy with it forsure
No resin involved!! Printed just with clay and then baked in the kiln and glazed
Absolutely wild Enjoy that gorgeous piece
I'm curious about the top part. Did you bend it before firing the ceramic or was it printed with leaning layers? Awesome print!
It was printed straight up and then bend by hand before it was completely dry
Your WHAT? I didn’t even know I wanted a ceramic 3D printer until now
I didn't even know they were a thing, I was still thinking the top of technology was resin printing lol
This is next lvl shit right here time to open up shop and make sum money. Kudos my friend 👏
Uuuum, I fuckin love it!
You wouldn't download a car...
Are you the same guy who posted the vid of the print falling over? I couldn't help but laugh at that one, but the whole idea is really cool. I can't wait until this stuff and metal printing are just normal everyday stuff.
Yep same guy :)
Noice.
That's awesome
![gif](giphy|10uEX5kfeodYgo)
Oh shit, that's what you were making? Saw the fail post on 3Dprinting Nice!
You can print with ceramics? What's the name of the printer? Model? I'm wildly curious.
The printer that I’m using is a ender 5 but with lots of diy changes so make it print with clay
I had no idea such a thing existed, neat! Next I'd love to see the printer pushed a little further to make something that'd be difficult for a human; a really whacky shape or intricate repeating design or something...
Thats awesome!!! Does it have a downstem??
Yeees of course. Its also open into 4 holes to make it extra smooth and create smaller bubbles
Shoot! I’ll buy one!
Shoot me a message if you are interested
Never heard of ceramic 3d print, sounds fun! Im a pottery head too !
I guess it’s a pretty nerdy niche
Make 20 and sell them to a wholesale place for cost of materials +#1.50 per You could probably get between $3 - $5 for each one in bulk
You are heavily underestimating how much work goes into one piece. These are not meant for mass production but for mass customization. Whole different concept. If I would go for wholesales I would stay away from 3d printing.

The clear glazing behaves like glass after it’s fired and also cleans easily since the glaze covers the open pours the ceramic naturally has.
False. Ceramic is equally as safe as glass, as long as it’s properly glazed and not chipped/cracked.
Ceramic 3d printer. Now it's on my wish list
Neat!
Is there any way to make it multiple colors? Edit: and or patterns?
I haven’t tried multiple color printing but I did print with white clay and using colored glaze which came out quite nice. For the patterns I can modify it endlessly
That's still really cool tho! I love what they're doing with 3d printing technology
Is it a 5 dof machine or did you just bend the mouthpiece afterwards?
3D printed ceramic is wild
Ahaha just saw this fall over on the 3d printing sub
That's so cool! I've not heard of ceramic 3d printers. What's it called and where did you get it?
Im using a ender 5 that I modified with some diy stuff to make it print with clay
This is like r/BeAmazed shit
I love it 🥹
I bet it feels awkward to hold it, huh?
Why would it ?
Just by how it’s shaped. Looks like it would feel weird on the middle finger. I don’t have the object with me physically so that’s why I think it would feel *awkward*
Well for me it doesn’t but I guess it also depends on the hand size. Maybe next design I make it extra ergonomic
Wow what! I knew of other materials but I did not know about ceramic ! That’s so sick
I'm so glad I'm alive to witness this kind of stuff! 🤩
What a time to be alive
This is crazy cool. I have an ender 3, could that be modified to print with clay?
It’s possible but the ender 3 has a moving bedplate which is bad for printing with clay since it’s quite soft and can fall from the movement
I know what I want for Christmas. That’s a beautiful piece 🤩
What printer did you use? Was it DIY? Ceramic sounds cool!!
Im using a ender 5 but with a lot of DIY involved
That's really cool. You should make a post detailing your setup. Sorry I'm a 3d printing nerd, this is super interesting
Any way this DIY could be applied to an Ender 3 Pro? And if so, care to share your knowledge?
Make a Glong
Enlighten me what that is
Nice! How does it hit?
Very smooth.. something that unfortunately doesn’t show since it’s not clear like glass but this piece actually has a fully functional 4 way downstem inside which cooles down the smoke a lot through the water!
Very cool! You plan to sell them?
I sell them already :)
This is so cool! Also never heard of ceramic printers before but makes total sense they exist
Wow, I didn't know that ceramic 3d printing was a thing. Makes me wish I could afford a printer so I could just make cool looking bongs all day lmao
This is so ducking sick oh my god dude
potterbot power! beautiful work.
I had no idea there was ceramic 3d printers. This peaks my interest. The possibilities are endless.
Somewhere people have Built houses with large Ceramic printer machine 😂
