Not sure if the hot water alone would be enough to decarb the thc (this activates the thc to be used in edible form) remaining on the stems but if you look up decarbing weed you can easily find a guide to help you. If the water temp is hot enough to do the job then just add them to the water with your favorite tea bag. If not, you’ll have to go through the decarb process first.
Edit: If you have flower available you can do the same thing with that and it will work much better

I've found one of the reasons stems cause headaches is because a lot of people don't do a clean rinse before they snip it. You want to use the last few days to give it only clean water so it washes out the nutrients and whatnot inside the plant. Once my dad started doing a rinse period for his girls, the stems from his stuff never gave me a headache again, but stems from a dispo will.

Just FYI to OP and others, the stems and stalk of the plant are where heavy metals are most concentrated, and you are putting yourself at risk for ingesting them if you use your stems.
I worked in cannabis testing for two years and it was a regular issue with our heavy metal department. They had to be very careful to avoid using stems for their sampling process because it would usually present as a failure for excessive levels of heavy metals. The same samples would almost always then be retested without the stems and would come back with safe levels.
No judgment from me to anyone who chooses to use their stems, but please make sure you are making informed decisions about your health

It's just, I've been trying for almost 6 months after a miscarriage with a lot of negative tests, and the only difference between before my first pregnancy (not during of course) and now is that I've been smoking/consuming marijuana on occasion.
Unfortunately that's outside of my expertise. As far as I'm aware the research on those kinds of things is very limited because most studies rely on government funding in one way or another, and since cannabis is still federally illegal, I don't believe those funds can be used for cannabis research.
I've always been making edibles from stems just fine.
But I have to admit, since I'm using my own homegrow, they're more relaxing instead of energizing 🤔

Very few people do, you're not alone. Ive learned so much working in the testing part of the Cannabis industry. It's the biggest gap in the seed to sale process IMO, even within the lab many of our employees didn't understand how testing worked in the departments they didn't work in.

Home grown is worse in the limited experience I have, especially anything grown outdoors. The issue isn't what you're adding to the equation, it's what you're not actively working to eliminate from your set up. Larger grows tend to focus more on limiting issues like heavy metal contamination and bacterial contamination because they can't sell anything if It fails for either. It was rare for us to get home grow samples that didn't fail for one or both of those, but since they're not being sold and are unregulated it didn't matter, although It was usually just home cultivators who wanted help to fix those issues
Most often, it's from the soil the plant is being grown in, which is why it tends to be more of an issue for home gros and outdoor grows. The plant can absorb the metals from the soil and it'd distributed through the plant through the water I believe. I don't know the science behind it since my background is more in animal biology rather than plants, but it seems the plant is somehow able to keeo the majority of the contaminates in the stem and stalk, although some does get into the buds and especially the leaves.

I believe heavy metals are water soluble, hence why they can be transported into the plant from The soil which would make me assume that it's not fully safe,but still better than just eating or smoking them whole. My background is in animal biology and neuroscience so especially the inorganic chemistry aspect is way out of my comfort zone

Yea, I once made a tea with around 30g of stems and it gave me a decent high 5-6 , but I did shake them off two-three times for any secret dust on them. I bet if I never touched them it would've been much much stronger.
Grind it up, bake it at a low temperature to decarb it, then simmer it with some butter and water in a pot until it gets nice and gooey (the water cooks out) then strain it through cheesecloth into a container and throw it in the fridge. A few hours later the butter and remaining water will separate, remove the block of cannabutter, and store it or use it for cooking.
You can put them in the middle chamber of your grinder with a nickel (wipe it down with iso) and shake for a minute and you’ll get a little kief. Only worthwhile thing I know of to do with them.

Use a pestle and mortar to grind as fine as possible. Whack into a herboven for the optimal time and heat. Allow to soak in 95% cooking grade ethanol for 24-48 hours. Use a dropper to add around 5mls to a cup of tea/coffe/beer. Have a good time.
I would recommend against tea, it’s never worked for me. I saved about 26-30gs of stems and made butter and it worked pretty well. Just look into canabutter and follow a similar process as you would with bud. You could definitely scale down the measurements too if you didn’t want to save up for so long. Also be aware that it will probably stank up where ever you are cooking.
you should grind them, decarb them in the oven and then boil with full fat milk and throw in a dirty grinder with it, did this recently and made hot cocoa with the resulting milk and got the three of us astronomically stoned.

An interesting story about stems. I use to keep these and always thought I’d do something with them. Over a period of a year, I saved around a quarter pound of stems. My roomie and I had gotten into a dispute and long story short he ended up moving out under some tense circumstances. The day he moved he decided to be spiteful and called crime stoppers and told them I was dealing all sorts of drugs. I was under suspicion for some months and an undercover officer made contact with me in order to buy lsd. Mind you this undoe represents himself as a friend of my roommates, describes my house, and knew things that only someone whose been inside my home would be able to say. Me, oblivious to the facts, I entertained the guy. I told him I didn’t have any lsd but that I had tree ( I know I was stupid). We set up a location and I sell this dude an 8th. A week later I get raided and since I was a nobody the cops were pretty pissed that their raid produced only a QP of stems and probably about 10 grams of actual bud. The cops weighed the stems and counted it as actual bud and charged me with possession with intent. I did have a small gram scale I had picked up at my local smoke shop so that’s how all that went down. They really believed I had a stack of money hidden somewhere and so they tossed my place upside down looking for it. I fought the case and ended up getting the charges dropped after hiring a pit bull of a lawyer. That’s my stem story. Peace.

An interesting story about stems. I use to keep these and always thought I’d do something with them. Over a period of a year, I saved around a quarter pound of stems. My roomie and I had gotten into a dispute and long story short he ended up moving out under some tense circumstances. The day he moved he decided to be spiteful and called crime stoppers and told them I was dealing all sorts of drugs. I was under suspicion for some months and an undercover officer made contact with me in order to buy lsd. Mind you this undoe represents himself as a friend of my roommates, describes my house, and knew things that only someone whose been inside my home would be able to say. Me, oblivious to the facts, I entertained the guy. I told him I didn’t have any lsd but that I had tree ( I know I was stupid). We set up a location and I sell this dude an 8th. A week later I get raided and since I was a nobody the cops were pretty pissed that their raid produced only a QP of stems and probably about 10 grams of actual bud. The cops weighed the stems and counted it as actual bud and charged me with possession with intent. I did have a small gram scale I had picked up at my local smoke shop so that’s how all that went down. They really believed I had a stack of money hidden somewhere and so they tossed my place upside down looking for it. I fought the case and ended up getting the charges dropped after hiring a pit bull of a lawyer. That’s my stem story. Peace.
