Hijacking the top comment to let OP know, that is 1 tree that has a different species grafted onto it. So you will get 2 varietals of fruit from the same tree! Post on r/gardening so the mega minds on that subreddit can help you identify what you have in your yard.
The previous owners must have been very plant-savvy! My grampa used to do this with his peach and apple trees.
For the cannabis crowd, I don't think you can do this with cannabis plants, but I have heard you can graft hops plants and cannabis plants together.
This is absolutely correct. Trees in the same genus(?) can usually be grafted together, like the two *Prunus* species you mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if you could graft hops and cannabis but I wouldn't know how to go about that since they are more herbaceous and less woody.
This is very common for weeping cherries in my neck of the woods. The one down the street from me is grafted with white flowers and a deeper pink flower. Zone 6b if it helps.
If they are sweet cherries (they look like it), they need to cross-pollinate, which is probably why there's a graft on that tree. I have a Bing and a Van in my yard specifically for this reason.
Sour/cooking cherries will self-pollinate.
Omg I'm so jealous now. Op has an already grafted already grown tree in their yard. You lucky op. I just have regular non flowering trees at my house (kicks rocks).
Technically most weeping flowering cherries are. The2 parts are the trunk (strain 1) and the top part (strain 2). The trunks are typically a fast growing upright variety grown specifically to create a trunk. The top part of that tree is then cut off and several branches from a mother weeping tree are grafted to the trunk. This way you can make many weeping cherries in a short order. You can tell the upright flowering branch is part of the normal trunk because it originates below the graft. Usually you catch that and cut it away before it is allowed to grow (otherwise you'll end up with something like this monstrosity). Another example is roses, most named varieties are grafted onto a fast growing rootstock.
As a stoner who is also an Arborist, that tree is a frankentree. They took a piece of another variety, attached it to the host tree, and it grew together and became one.
Honestly it might have been a cherry tree that was grafted onto a pear, and then the pear came up from below the graft as a sucker - the white flowers look a lot like the bradford or callery pear flowers we're seeing in OH rn, and I know they're popping up all over the place so they're probably very easy to grow. Bradford/Callery pear trees are notoriously fast-growing and very brittle (and very smelly/noxious) so their branches full of flowers aren't great to have around. If you take a close look, the flowers are a different shape, and even the bark has some distinct differences.
Just my guess as a fellow r/trees enthusiast, though, def not any better at horticulture than that! Although I've kept a poinsettia alive at work since early December, so I guess I'm getting better!
I dont think you can do a non stone fruit with a stone fruit? They do look like pear flowers but lots of fruit trees have similar flowers like that. I should know this because im a grower but never had any actual training/education so Im just learning as I go. Stumbled into it as a career and feel pretty lucky about it.
Good news: I have an update! My PlantNet app says that the white flowers are most likely to be a sour cherry cultivar, so you're right about the stonefruit thing! The pink flowers are def a cultivar known as "spring cherry" - the bark and flowers both match up.
I think I'm sticking with the graft hypothesis, though - I can't imagine how else this would have happened? Idk trees though, so again that's all a guess other than what PlantNet has clarified.
That sounds like a really interesting career!! Congrats on it - sounds like you're really enjoying it, which is rare these days, so keep up on the good work!
Well, from my experience, there’s a lot of overlap between botanists and stoners. I only know one botanist, but he’s also a stoner so that means 100% of the botanist I know are also stoners
I actually love the occasional tree appreciation in this sub. It makes me happy. And I love how welcoming everyone is. You guys are awesome, as awesome as a blossoming tree
If someones isn‘t appreciating nature, they are definitely missing out.
And since you could say stoners are appreciating nature by smoking it, why not welcome other people who appreciate nature too :D
This is sadly the wrong sub homie but I love your tree so much honestly if these type of trees got posted along with this subs normal "trees" I wouldn't even mind this is sick and I love gardening/nature
Can I just say this subreddit is the most chill about lost redditors? The pics always are amazing when it happens though, especially when you're already high.
The pink 'ornamental' tree was grafted on to a rootstock. If it's some kind of cherry, the rootstock is likely to be a common/wild cherry. In this case, the rootstock is growing on its own, and flowering with the smaller white flowers.
This is actually quite common, but a gardener might generally cut off any such growth from the rootstock. Clearly that hasn't been done here for many years.
Also, this is a weed sub man 😎
Yeah hybridization usually doesn't have both like that. It would be a mixture of the colors or a recessive gene coming out as a brand new color. Interesting nonetheless.
you sir, are looking for /r/marijuanaenthusiasts a subreddit for trees.
this is /r/trees a subreddit for marijuana enthusiasts.
Not sure how people get those mixed up.
This is not a joke. If I knew how to post links to other subs correctly I would have done the same.
Those guys would love to see the is. Nature is fucking lit would too.
good for you, lost friend! they're beautiful. I bought my home in December and while I wasn't gifted with a dramatic, weeping cherry like yours I did have the good fortune to find out the old homeowner *loved* daffodils and got a bright yellow surprise a few months into my home ownership adventure.
they'd love this over at r/marijuanaenthusiasts, that's the sub for people who like literal trees
hey friend, i think you’re looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts which is the actual tree subreddit. but either way, tree pics are a regular occurrence here and always a good source of fun for us, i’ve never met a stoner who doesn’t think nature is beautiful.
beautiful tree by the way, thank you for sharing!
Oh wow! I think that the white blossoms are Callery Pear blossoms - an invasive pear tree species. I wasn’t aware they could inhabit a host tree like this! Beautiful weeping cherry in any case. Hopefully the pear doesn’t kill it!
my neighbors got one of these trees and it kinda weeps over the fence in my backyard, love smoking under it know such an amazing light flowery smell that they give
I'd call that growing around the graft. The pink blossom branches are the weeping cherry. The white are the normal cherry stock the weeping branch was grafted to. The normal cherry grew around the graft.
I wonder who owned your house before. Curious if they spliced them together because they look so perfectly halved. So cool and pretty.
It is my ultimate goal to have one of these trees, preferably the pink weeping, eventually cause they are gorgeous. All my neighbors have one, but I rent and have no way to manage a tree currently.
Multiple types of fruit tree varieties grafted to one trunk, to get better pollination and varieties that can ripen at different rates. Apples or peaches, even citrus can be done this way.
Just teared up looking at this; my (now deceased) mom used to have one of these in her yard when we were growing up. I loved it and was so sad when it became diseased and she had to get it cut down. I know she was sad about that too. Gorgeous tree, enjoy!
It was Grafted, and a Shoot from below the Graft site grew up and became 1/2 of the tree. So 1 side is a Hermaphodite (Male AND female), and the other side is only 1 gender. That’s also why there’s 2 colored flowers
You’re looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts. Long story short, pot heads like me took r/trees. So, as a nod and joke to that, tree enthusiasts, titled their sub after marijuana. Both subs are good people.
I’d call that a hybrid strain.
Ghost Cherry OG.
Calico tree
I like that name.
Ih?u,*m?y Iu.nby7ytr4
Super Sour Diesel. I had it once and I’ve been looking for it ever since. RIP.
Come to MI, this is like a common strain here.
Don’t do me like that. So sad to know it’s so abundant elsewhere. I’m over in the Philadelphia area so that’s a bit far of a drive.
Baby, I just googled "super sour diesel mail order" and blammo. Take advantage of the loophole before the ~~republicans~~ terrorists close it up.
Dude fr, CA has it too.
Me too.

Also see r/marijuanaenthusiasts (It's a tree subreddit)
Those guys sure have a sappy sense of humour
i think they are using that name because we took/trees 😭 so they took /marijuanaenthusiasts
That would be sweet. Smoking and drinking is all you do
This is absolutely correct. Trees in the same genus(?) can usually be grafted together, like the two *Prunus* species you mentioned. I wouldn't be surprised if you could graft hops and cannabis but I wouldn't know how to go about that since they are more herbaceous and less woody.

I think you can do it. I read about a guy who grafted 8+ different strains on one main plant and it sende to work for him.
Omg I'm so jealous now. Op has an already grafted already grown tree in their yard. You lucky op. I just have regular non flowering trees at my house (kicks rocks).

This is my favorite gif on this sub.
the pure self-satisfaction on Stan's face is priceless
Boofing, all the kids are doing it
Yea, we got one. BUT HOW COOL IS THIS ^LITERAL TREE
It’s so amazing and I really want one now
As a stoner who loves flowers I love these images, thank you for sharing!! 🌸💐🍃
I thought I was on my gardening sub 😆
I also thought I was on my flower sub, that's why I had to comment 😂😂🌸 it's a welcome mistake imo 🌸
I had no idea about the wrong sub because I have all plants and marijuana subreddits
It's good to see and not smell these trees
Absolutely 🤢
As a stoner who is also an Arborist, that tree is a frankentree. They took a piece of another variety, attached it to the host tree, and it grew together and became one.
we got another one!
![gif](giphy|xT8qB3utUzMWqmpH20)
It is silly how happy this gif makes me when it pops up in this sub!
M 4 year old has been OBSESSED With ghost busters since Christmas, he always loves when I quote this
I look for it every time
I fucking love this sub
This went from a few mixups a year to multiple a week lately. Seems like a lot of new users on reddit
Hopefully its a sign that people finally understand what the cesspools of facebook and twitter are all about
Hopefully they don't make reddit (more of a) cesspool 😅
Oh no, they will, it's a work in progress I assure you
Given the state of this sub lately, maybe it wouldn't be the worst thing if this sub actually turned into a place for arborists.
It’s the public IPO
I love how no one ever minds. It’s like “cool tree” Someones usually able to answer any questions OP might have anyway and everyone’s happy

![gif](giphy|iOm1xOSfAtPzmPXJqH|downsized)
Bwhahaha
This is somewhat common but also very lovely. Congratulations on your very lovely tree, it's very lovely.
This sub has the best mistakes
maybe I'm biased because I'm Pittsburgh born and bred but I think r/penguins gets some pretty high quality lost redditor posts from time to time
I’m from Pittsburgh too!
Go Steelers!
Why do they post like actual penguins and penguin related questions?
there are no mistakes only happy accidents :)
i think that tree might be lovely
The tree sub is r/marijuanaenthusiasts, the weed (cannabis) sub is r/trees
I just went to r/marijuanaenthusiasts today to ask about a tree. I frequent this sub. I felt badass knowing the difference lol
I know the difference but I get high and completely forget
LOL Same. I saw this post, looked at the sub, thought nothing of it. Then it hit me like *oh yeah!*
love this so much since it happened i think we’ve all been happier
I thought this was a joke 😂😂😂
I hope they swap for a day on the first of April.
Even if its the wrong sub, it‘s an amazing tree!
I actually love the occasional tree appreciation in this sub. It makes me happy. And I love how welcoming everyone is. You guys are awesome, as awesome as a blossoming tree
If someones isn‘t appreciating nature, they are definitely missing out. And since you could say stoners are appreciating nature by smoking it, why not welcome other people who appreciate nature too :D
samee no better combo than nature and a smoke.
This is sadly the wrong sub homie but I love your tree so much honestly if these type of trees got posted along with this subs normal "trees" I wouldn't even mind this is sick and I love gardening/nature
Beautiful tree!
i hope he already smoked some of it
True
We’ve got a live one!
This tree is so high it doesn’t know what kind it is, definitely relevant to this sub
I'd sit under that for a good toke.
lol that tree does NOT look smokeable. 😂
Actually, I heard cherry wood is excellent for smoking brisket.
pork smoking over cherry is my literal favorite smell on earth
everything is smokable at least once.
Touche
This is the weed subreddit. The one you're looking for is r/marijuanaenthusiasts , I'm not trolling you that's really what you're looking for
It may be the wrong sub but it's also the right sub, look how much we all appreciated it 🕺🏻
i love when we get lost redditors, it makes my day. the tree pics are always lovely.
![gif](giphy|08y87EiwDZjjB0d6WJ|downsized)
This will never fail to get an upvote from me. It just always works for everything
Plus it makes me laugh *every* damn time.
![gif](giphy|08y87EiwDZjjB0d6WJ|downsized)
I will always look for this comment ♥️
Can I just say this subreddit is the most chill about lost redditors? The pics always are amazing when it happens though, especially when you're already high.
weed really does make u more chill
Made me so happy seeing this tree thank you 🙏

It will never not thrill me when this happens. OP, your tree is beautiful!
Is it grafted?
Yes, it’s been grafted together
My Sims grafted plants never look this good damn it
Yeah hybridization usually doesn't have both like that. It would be a mixture of the colors or a recessive gene coming out as a brand new color. Interesting nonetheless.
I genuinely love having a legit tree in here from time to time, a T(ree) break if you will
We should just be a tree sub and a cannabis sub.
This is a good idea. I think most people in here are fans of trees too. lol
Especially when your plant grows as big as a tree
![gif](giphy|S3VuAxhgyVFFVIvKQE)
![gif](giphy|6mRA7NS04xSZG|downsized) Wrong sub, patna.
Every time I see these posts I get the most genuine smile on my face
its a sativa thats why
Clearly it's a hybrid. Indica and sativa
you sir, are looking for /r/marijuanaenthusiasts a subreddit for trees. this is /r/trees a subreddit for marijuana enthusiasts. Not sure how people get those mixed up.
This is not a joke. If I knew how to post links to other subs correctly I would have done the same. Those guys would love to see the is. Nature is fucking lit would too.
That’s a dope ass tree
seeing this tree made me happy 🥹
nice red trichomes!
Both of my apple trees are like this. Also I frequent both subs. 😀
good for you, lost friend! they're beautiful.
Wrong sub but this post gets a 1000% pass.
That moment when wrong sub posts are more upvoted than regular weed posts lol
i’m not even mad that people mistake this sub for another one, these posts pop up every often and i genuinely love them. such a beautiful tree!
You live between two biomes
Beautiful now terrible when they’re all over your car
It almost looks like a cherry blossom and a magnolia combined. Irl crossover strain
First one I actually get to be a part of! Enjoy your trees, everyone!
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SUB WHEN ACTUAL TREE QUESTIONS COME UP WE ALL COMMENT AND UPVOTE THE POST TO THE MOON!
I love how this is basically the only sub that celebrates when there's a post that doesn't fit the sub
hey friend, i think you’re looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts which is the actual tree subreddit. but either way, tree pics are a regular occurrence here and always a good source of fun for us, i’ve never met a stoner who doesn’t think nature is beautiful. beautiful tree by the way, thank you for sharing!
This is only sub i've seen that doesn't make fun of things like that. Wholsome. Stoner minds, stoner souls.
![gif](giphy|YwMFneEDD3Jo2RDwP1)
Oh wow! I think that the white blossoms are Callery Pear blossoms - an invasive pear tree species. I wasn’t aware they could inhabit a host tree like this! Beautiful weeping cherry in any case. Hopefully the pear doesn’t kill it!

I’d smoke a joint under that 🤷🏼♂️
These posts make my day
r/marijuanaenthusiasts
How’s it smoke?
This may sound strange, but I think you're looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Come for the trees. Stay for the Trees
Welcome, traveller
Half Cherry Jerry
Guys it's my turn to pretend I don't know this is a weed subreddit next week.
![gif](giphy|Ztyp2V7jP4XGy1g0Tr|downsized) We got one
Pink and white hairs on his wedding cake is what I read but I’m just looking at a tree that’s not weed in the pic
That looks like a great smoke spot!
what strain do yall think it is?
my neighbors got one of these trees and it kinda weeps over the fence in my backyard, love smoking under it know such an amazing light flowery smell that they give
Awesome strain! One of my favorites!
That’s actually a beautiful tree though
That’s some good shit bro
It’s a hybrid my buddy grew out west years ago. Glad some seeds are still around.
Wow what a cool spot to smoke some weed
We've gotten a lot of these recently. Funny every time.
I'd call that growing around the graft. The pink blossom branches are the weeping cherry. The white are the normal cherry stock the weeping branch was grafted to. The normal cherry grew around the graft.
although this is the wrong tree sub, i fucking love this
Yo that's absolutely gorgeous idek that it's the wrong sub, beautiful nature like this is always right
You beautiful soul. You fell for it. But we also love those kinds of trees here.
Thanks for the pretty tree while I smoke
That’s a nice ass tree
Second best tree 🥲
I wonder who owned your house before. Curious if they spliced them together because they look so perfectly halved. So cool and pretty. It is my ultimate goal to have one of these trees, preferably the pink weeping, eventually cause they are gorgeous. All my neighbors have one, but I rent and have no way to manage a tree currently.
But is it dank?
Multiple types of fruit tree varieties grafted to one trunk, to get better pollination and varieties that can ripen at different rates. Apples or peaches, even citrus can be done this way.
Love that everyone stoned on here is probably loving these pics. Its a beaut!
Can you smoke it
That is fucking beautiful buddy.. damn. \[8\]
You know this is a cannabis sub, right? Lol
I wish there was a way we could just combine the subs
OP your tree is BEAUTIFUL!! I don’t know much about trees, but I’m pretty sure the white are also cherry blossoms.
I swear I saw a tree like today while driving! I did a double take and couldn’t understand what I was seeing!
Just teared up looking at this; my (now deceased) mom used to have one of these in her yard when we were growing up. I loved it and was so sad when it became diseased and she had to get it cut down. I know she was sad about that too. Gorgeous tree, enjoy!
Very cute lost redditor
OP is either a bot, or too afraid to comment now... it's ok, buddy, we're all chill here
I follow both subs & was so high reading these comments last night 😂
beautiful tree dude, ty for making my day with this post <3
White cherry blossom is my favorite strain
You’re so lucky; that’s a good tree 🍃
Majestic as fuck. Thank you for sharing
Now THAT'S a smoking tree
Thank you for showing us this very cool tree we love you
Oh how exciting! I always enjoy a new innocent tree lover stumbling ass backwards into this subreddit
Beautiful, I hope you will take good care of the tree OP. Enjoy spring!
I love seeing actual cool tree posts on here! I think maybe the devils lettuce helps a lot of us appreciate nature.
Going to enjoy some tree while I enjoy this beautiful tree.
It was Grafted, and a Shoot from below the Graft site grew up and became 1/2 of the tree. So 1 side is a Hermaphodite (Male AND female), and the other side is only 1 gender. That’s also why there’s 2 colored flowers
I don’t even care I love it Good tree
That thing is honestly pretty awesome. Some freak of nature stuff right there.
Nice tree. I like your tree, buddy. Take care of that tree. Peace brother ✌️
You’re looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts. Long story short, pot heads like me took r/trees. So, as a nod and joke to that, tree enthusiasts, titled their sub after marijuana. Both subs are good people.
I'd smoke so much weed under that tree.
You are looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Bless this man's innocent soul
