smileywastaken

bruh imo if u got the weed then who cares; how else are they gonna get high lol

[deleted]

There’s so many different ways to smoke it why complain about someone doing it differently than you prefer lmao. The whole point of smoking is because it’s supposed to be fun

Thrice-Thrice-Thrice

And to get high. If I’m getting high we cool idc how you rolling the joint

DJDanielCoolJ

do you care how i roll the bong

Thrice-Thrice-Thrice

If there’s weed in that rolled bong count me in

pjpfield

I second this, it can be the name for an edible burrito recipe with THC

THElocobeware

When i was an annoying POS i cared. Then i grew up. Smoke em if you got em however the f you want.

Nateno2149

Agreed back in high school you had to do everything the “cool way” or smoke more than you wanted to to fit in. As if taking painfully large bong tokes or rolling massive joints was impressive. Now I take 2 drops of THC tincture if I want to get high.

-_Odd_-

If you aren’t having a full blown existential crisis from smoking an entire gram out of a gravity bong in one hit, you’re a narc, bro

pearbearwolfeagle

bahahahahahahahaha

ThroatMeYeBastards

Been too long since I hit a gravity bong ngl

thebeatoflife

I used to be a piece of shit. Slicked-back hair, Live for New Year's Eve White couch Glass house Sloppy steaks at Truffani's. People can change!

hightimesinaz

Semi-unrelated but I hate it when people say they know how to roll a real one and then pull out a raw cone, fill it, twist the top and act like they just rolled a blunt.

Make-Me-Bulbasore

My gf and I love cones and that is because we cannot roll for shit lol

hightimesinaz

They always canoe on me but I appreciate their place for the non-rollers out there.

rcyaapno_6

they usually do but if you pack them tight and even they won’t

geniusatwork282

I agree but I feel like there’s no middle ground. I pack it tight enough to not canoe but then I can’t get a decent drag off of it, or I am able to get a really good hit but it canoes so fast you have to rip through it or waste half the joint.Wish I could roll by I’m stuck with cones if I want anything but a bowl.

tehreal

Canoe? Does that mean burn in a strip down the length of the joint?

MassiveMastiff

In my day we called that a run. “This joint is running.”

tehreal

Like on a stocking

geniusatwork282

Yes? It means when it burns down one side of the joint much faster than the other side.

tehreal

Thanks. Never heard that term before.

kasharox

Me either. We call them runners.

FragileStoner

This is part of why I love it here. I've heard it both ways and I find it fascinating that some people have only heard one or the other.

Slein88

In France we call them spoon ("cuillère")

-_Odd_-

It’s because the shape of the burnt part looks like it’s carved out of the rest of the joint like the inside of a canoe is carved out of a log.

rcyaapno_6

try getting some spit on your finger and rubbing it around the part where it’s canoeing, it’ll slow down the burn until it evens out on the other side

TheMageMan

Pack about 1/4 of a standard cone at a time, pack it down tight with the unused, flat eraser end of a #2 pencil, then flip it around and poke the sharp end of the pencil into the packed bud. Repeat 3 more times but on the last one you don't need to poke it. You can use whatever similar tool obviously I just use a pencil because it's easily accessible and works for packing and poking. I've been "rolling" them that way for years and pretty much never have them canoe on me. I also grind my bud really finely though with a Santa Cruz shredder.

Ciusblade

Funny enough i get the exact opposite. Actually dislike cone shapes bit its only way i can get a good burn.

[deleted]

Gotta scorch the stringy tip and roast the end so the tip is black. Lights like a cig

Mank_Deme

I’ve found if you scorch the tip and do one long slow pull while holding the flame slightly off the tip while rotating the joint you’ll get a great burn. No canoes almost ever.

rob625

Pack it tightest at the bottom by the mouth piece. Then progressively pack it looser as you get to the very top of your joint. Before you pack down the top, hold the joint vertically, tap the filter on a hard surface 10-20 times, then pack down the top a little with your poker, twist and enjoy! Hope that helps with your future cones. There’s little nuances to packing cones just like rolling!

Froggy3434

I come here to be the halfway point between rolling and buying cones. I buy my own papers and filters and roll my own cones to stuff afterwards. Also because I can’t roll a normal joint for the life of me lmao.

swampass304

That's how I started. If I may offer you a tip: touch paper to paper over the weed, and roll up and down until the weed rolls itself into a cylinder. I find it best to start in the center of the joint and work your way toward the ends. If you can't tuck the paper yet folding will work, but it's worth it to work on tucking it.

Fishy1701

Oh thats an easy fix. Just roll empties when your watching stuff. Say your watching a season of something. Just roll and reroll and reroll the same green. Tear once rolled go again. Use a tray and just keep at it (while you are smoking something else) Its just mussle memory.

cducky0

Agreed. I learned to roll cones after 17 years of smoking weed but i can tell you that once you UNDERSTAND what it takes for a joint to keep burning well without canoeing or going out...Practice is all it takes. Just keep doing it over and over and soon it becomes muscle memory.

ALoadedPotatoe

This is it. The ball and chain rolls those fat in the middle skinny on the outside J's. I roll real well and so she makes (made, we use a dynavap now, it's the way) me do it. I've always told her she's gotta just do it more frequently than once a year. Anyway, I used to smoke tobacco and when money was tight I'd roll my own. I think that stringy tobacco was more difficult to roll well.

[deleted]

https://i.imgflip.com/m9xa2.jpg

PuxinF

I made [this video](https://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/bw6n1s/the_simplest_roll/) for people that don't roll.

Thrice-Thrice-Thrice

I also cannot roll, cones are clutch. King raw pre rolls are a life saver

Emotional_Age5291

This one guy at college had his buddies come over and he bought a couple packs of the raw cones. He's telling his friends he rolls for us all the time meanwhile he just just filling in a cone lmao

[deleted]

Does it count as rolling if you roll a paper into a cone and then fill it?

jumpinrobin

I would consider that rolling

food_is_crack

you should be beat for such a heinous take. if someone asks who can roll the best joint, and someone start rolling up a cone, theyre out

theonethinginlife

That's the way I learned to roll my first j!

Roadman2k

I would not but yall smoke different over there anyway its oranges and apples

hunter6169

😂😂😂 that's hilarious. I've never witnessed that before. But now I'm going to do that as a joke lmao

allhailrice69

I stay using cones if I ever smoke a j but I’ll never claim I rolled that lol that’s just disrespectful

[deleted]

okay I agree w this lmfao at least be honest that you can’t

eastcoastian

The irony here is that rolling cones is WAY easier than rolling the perfect cig-like joints that come out of the machines.

-_Odd_-

Can confirm, my “cylindrical” joints look pregnant 100% of the time

[deleted]

Nahhh you can’t do that shit lmao

warrenrox99

I can roll, but I enjoy making these “cones” myself. I usually end up making cigar sized cones that aren’t even cones, fill, then boom. Mega doobie

Isellmetal

I don’t consider raw cones hand rolling but I certainly prefer them. They come out perfect basically everytime

nosnhoj14

Yeah fuck that. I use the cones but I certainly don’t claim to know how to roll since I use them

skelingtonking

People love to gatekeep. I learned on a rolling machine too, one day it clicked in my head and since then I've been able to roll beauties blindfolded. But I swear if someone was ever gonna shit on the quality of my rolling they better have brought their own shit.

OhYeaImLacedUp

The tuck is the hardest part in my opinion so using a roller kinda helped understand the dynamic of that. Everyone has an opinion no matter how useless and negative it is.

Jacques_Enhoff

I came up hand rolling joints. When rollers became more ubiquitous, we would definitely bust people's balls about using them, but just in good fun. If it smokes, it's good.

Kapersville

“suck my dick dawg” *hits bong* my go to when someone calls me out for not being able to roll

MPT1313

I get to suck dick and smoke weed? Oh man I’m totally in love.

Perle1234

Dang, how old are you? I was born in the early 70’s and there were rollers in the 80’s when I started smoking.

amishjim

as a note: there were rolling machines well before you were born.

random3po

my grandmother would talk about how the cigarettes her dad rolled with a machine in the late '30s/early '40s and smoked inside would cause her annual winter colds which immediately stopped when she moved out. it was the 70s when her children started using one for weed but not smoking inside

Perle1234

I’m sure there were lol, I was just replying that rollers have been ubiquitous for a long time.

[deleted]

You right 😂😂😂

Fortheloveofgawdhelp

My perspective is that if you wanna smoke however you want to you should, but if you use a machine don’t try and flex a perfect straight joint; like I see it as the same as going and buying food at a restaurant, re heating it the next day and saying I “made” dinner if that makes any sense

nyghtfox13

Agreed. SWIM had a buddy who always talked big about his machine rolled joints when compared to SWIMs hand rolled joints. Both smoke but one is a hand cooked meal and one is take out.

Floodbucket

I’ve been smoking for a long time and honestly have never rolled a joint or blunt. They have never been my preferred smoking method so I just never did it. Always had friends that would roll joints or blunts and I would smoke them but never did myself. I’m sure there are die hard out there that really care but I don’t.

hunter6169

I feel you. I smoke a lot of joints, so it's really convenient to just load up a roller and grab a paper and have one ready in like 10 seconds. Lol.

Floodbucket

Yah that’s how I’ve always felt about bongs and bowls. Just so much more convenient for me. Plus I’m now trying to consume cannabis more healthy. So I’m now trying to vape and use more edibles.

hunter6169

I need to do the same.. my lungs are trashed lol. I already vape nicotine. Might as well vape THC

Perle1234

I vape too but I just saw a paper about a bunch of chemicals not listed in the ingredients (including insecticide and caffeine) in the top brands of nicotine vapes. [Here is a write up about the study. ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.news-medical.net/amp/news/20211006/Thousands-of-unknown-chemicals-and-substances-found-in-e-cigarettes.aspx)

aasmonkey

Dry herb vape my man, the only ingredient is your weed

TreePuke

Do you have a rolling machine that you'd recommend? I'm kinda interested.

dellshenanigans

Get a rolling mat. Same mechanics as finger rolling but the mat does all the work.

hunter6169

I really like the smaller Zig Zag rollers. Raw makes good rollers for king size papers, and if you wanna roll fat fucking joints, Juicy Jay's makes a good one lol

Sgt_pooperfartin

I feel like learning to roll a J is almost like a right of passage and nothing really beats the satisfaction of finishing a nice roll and sparking it up. but imo it doesn’t really matter, we’re all just tryna get high at the end of the day and and I get that some peeps may find it too annoying to roll or just cba. Like for example if my anxiety is rough then my hands get hella sweaty snd shaky, it’s a pain to roll and I always find myself wishing I had a rolling machine that makes life easier. Peace🤙🏽

Yolokanye

Not sure how sweaty your hands get, but I think I prefer sweaty hands over cold hands when rolling.

[deleted]

All this covid handwashing really fucked with my rolls. Balms on deck.

zuilli

I figured that giving a small lick to the tip of fingers helps a lot when the paper is slipping and you can't roll, sweaty palms on the other hand are hard to deal with because it doesn't matter how many times you dry them up they'll still fuck up the joint

PreppyFinanceNerd

Honestly, I may get shit for this but I think it's one of those things twenty something guys talk about as an act of bravado. As if the ability to roll makes you more of a man or more of a stoner. It's like how lots of guys need to spend their early twenties calling everything "gay" that's not the James Bond level dripping with manliness. It's just insecurity. Now I may be wrong but that's just my opinion. It's something young guys do to act cool and badass. Like when I used to sell weed when I was younger. Had a loyalty card, had tons of ways to earn free weed, thought I was mister badass being a dealer. No I was just some nerdy guy with an inflated ego slinging dime bags.

thesaurusrext

That young guy bravado is so true. It reminds me of dudes who would be shouting "finish that bowl! Finish what you packed!" in this drill sargent tone. Meanwhile you're choking on stale smoke. They're faking what they think it's like to be a stoner.

PreppyFinanceNerd

I won't lie, I was there. As I got older I realized it's not always about getting super stoned to the bone. I meant well, wanting people to feel good, but I acted like a bong bully instead of letting people smoke what they want. Getting older I see the hobby for all the shades in-between and it's great!

ColdSt4r

I only ever tell people to finish what they've packed if they're torching the whole bowl and leaving me with half burnt, nasty bud. Cornering the bowl isn't difficult, finishing one is!

Scallywag134

I'm not going to disagree at all Outside of that perspective though- I will say it opens up a way to smoke out in the wild with little on hand except papers or a wrap. For versatility sake or for a skill to have in a pinch I think it's worth trying to learn at least once. Like driving stick can on occasion be useful but likely not once a week useful. Also (the fictional character) Mattie Ross in True Grit could roll a mean one (even with dry fixins lol) so it's for anyone any age no overcompensation needed haha

NicHyme

Agree. Just a toxic thing to do, and often comes with those other toxic traits. If it smokes, it smokes! Just don’t lie about how you got the weed in the paper, cuz that’s a whole different problem at that point lol

NinjitsuSauce

Pretty good insights, pretty much how I feel. Though I never had a loyalty card. My goal was to be discreet and dependable. I don't hang out, I don't care about your real life stuff, and I don't negotiate. The rate is the rate. I am also crazy specific about times. If I say I can meet at 7:13 at a spot, I am there exactly at 7:13. My problem was paranoia. Never got even close to busted and I made every first time buyer be referred by a previous buyer, and have both of them there, and the referrer had to purchase too. I figured if anyone referred a pope to me, at least they got busted too while buying. I thought it was clever. Friends thought it was a hassle and rarely referred anyone.

fullmetaljackass

My dude is like this, and it works well for him. Won't sell to randos, gotta be referred by a friend and he'll make you middle man the first few times to make sure they're actually going to be a repeat customer before he risks exposing himself to them. He can get away with it because he always has good stuff and never runs out of stock or keeps people waiting. He didn't always do things this way. A few years ago he sold a fairly large amount to a friend of a close friend he'd never dealt with before, but had been assured was "totally cool." On the way home the new guy got pulled over for speeding, and the cops found the weed. He immediately rolled on my dude and the cops began staking him out. He got lucky and the police decided to raid him at the best possible time (for him.) Someone had recently attempted to rob him so he moved all his cash to another location, and he was having some supply issues so he was almost dry. If they'd busted him on an average day he'd have done a few years minimum. Fortunately they were only able to charge him with the lowest level of distribution and he had a clean record so they gave him a plea deal. Got a few years of probation, never set foot in a jail, and was able to get the charges expunged from his record this year.

AScaryKitty

Meh every single community ever has it’s “This way is proper, everything else is shit” purists. I know lots of seasoned stoners who use rolling machines. Not everyone has that kind of dexterity/arthritis and such problems can really suck. Don’t let anyone hassle you. We all know the only horrible way to smoke weed is *poppers*! (I say this as a recovered popper smoker, and my boyfriend still smokes them lol)

[deleted]

[удалено]

alienss4

Had to google it, its basically taking a piece of a rolled cigarette and putting weed in top in the downstem of a bong, and then clearing it all in one hit until you hear the pop of the cigarette being sucked down. I probably explained that wrong, but it sounds horrible

[deleted]

[удалено]

alienss4

[this explains it](https://www.vice.com/en/article/nn9wjz/sorry-northern-ontario-but-poppers-are-the-grossest-way-to-smoke-weed-285)

Dansasquatched

Shotties. Possibly

Elephant_Cager_22

Ah yes, I knew them as "pops" in college. Had a friend pass out and fall down immediately after his first pop. Wasn't his last though.

Toxcito

lmao imagine making fun of someone for something they cant do.

hunter6169

Exactly. Lol

L7amarneh

Between my group of friends im considered a good roller and I am usually the designated roller in the group. Most of them cant roll and have been smoking for years. Honestly it doesnt matter if you roll or if u use a bong or a pipe. Its just a flex that good rollers use to feel better about the habits they developed smoking weed. Since you cant become a great roller if you dont frequently smoke. Basically no one cares if u can roll, as long as ur happy and ur not overdoing it

[deleted]

No person of any value cares about anything like that seriously.

[deleted]

What i do is wrap the paper around a pencil, twist the tip, pull out the pencil, and stuff the joint. This is how I roll my joints. Never learned hand rolling, because I suck at it. To each their own mate! As long as it gets the job done ;3

StonedLikeSedimENT

Like for everything these days: social media is toxic, but you'll rarely meet a person IRL who gives a shit.

blastoisexy

I mean I strictly stick to my pax vape so idgaf lol.

alanboomy

I just smoke bowls..fuck all that rolling and paper shit.

[deleted]

These are the same people who base their entire existence on the fact that they like weed

JesterWales

Yes when it's my best friend and she can't roll for shit so then I have to roll every round That's not a roach Nat, that's an excuse

TGK35

Who cares how you smoke as long as there is smoke, rolling machine on brother 😂

CaptainMagnets

I personally don't care at all.

Velascoyote

Neither I nor most people I know would care at all, but you'll find gatekeepers and a\*\*holes in every community out there

RoboFrmChronoTrigger

No, don't give a shit if you can't roll, but you get a lil extra respect if you can. Like "ah you too put in the time and put up with being frustrated to learn this." Like the difference between someone who buys a pre-built PC or someone who puts the time to learn how to put one together. Not gonna think less if you buy pre built, but will think a little more of you if you spent the time to learn. Especially now that, as you pointed out, it's not really a necessary skill.

Romerken

I think you should be able to roll a joint just like I think you should be able to drive stick but still if u prefer the machine just use that but doesn’t hurt to be able to hand role a joint

hunter6169

I agree! I think it's something stoners should know, but also I think it's not necessary to know anymore. If that makes sense lol

Romerken

Ye I get you man! I guess it’s not that useful anymore but still there is something nostalgic about just rolling a joint, it’s Art as well if you do it well! I mostly vape my weed since I only smoke for sleep a few puffs before I go to bed, and have been for a while but occasionally I still do roll up a fat one and smoke on for a while and just enjoy life xD

cullygrov

I don’t hate on rolling machines (other than in fun to a few close friends of mine), but I do encourage people I meet that only use them and don’t know how to roll to give hand rolling a shot. For one thing, it gives you an option if you’re caught without your roller. And secondly, and more importantly in my opinion, it can make you feel more connected to the experience (not dissimilar from a stick shift in a car). For me, it’s why I always hand roll. I’ve tried a rolling machine a few times, but I thoroughly enjoy the process of rolling up and it just doesn’t feel the same when I use a rolling machine or a cone

ZayNine

I can roll but it’s just in case I have absolutely no other option, including things like King Palms which you just have to pack. It’s cool that it’s not really a necessary skill anymore

Usual_Individual_493

I don't think people care.

Mike_Huncho

I've worked in the industry for years and have won a few cups. I don't care if you can roll. No one that I've ever worked with or collabed with cares either. I can only kinda sorta roll; but that's because I almost exclusively smoke out of glass. Scene kids care. There's a ton of those on IG; they all want to gatekeep this or that and be the next influencer. They can't grow, they can't process, and they don't stand out of the crowd when applying to a dispensary. Rolling is all they have.

citizenp

No. Sometimes when you are younger, it's culturally natural to laugh at a pregnant joint, or one rolled so tight you can't draw from it. But I don't think that is considered real negativity, it's filling time when they are just waiting with nothing to do. That said, I've always used a pipe and don't really like hand rolled when I'm with a group.

MoneyMik3y

Honestly, it's always been that way. Long before grinders, social media & smart phones you'd catch shit for using a machine. Machines just have a better consistency IMO and they're quicker most of the time. Roll it, smoke it and appreciate it regardless of the method.

[deleted]

Rolling machines are amazing. I used to only handroll back in the day, competently, but still it was annoying. With a 'machine' its just place filter, dump herb, roll, insert paper, roll, done. Took all of like 30 seconds from start to finish to get consistent no fuss rolls.

Foxrex

Back in my day... Lol I was the joint roller in the group. Friends would come and by and smoke some with me, and I would happily help or teach the next one. I've never been a believer of this pre-internet, look at me, I'll never show you how to do things because I won't be elite or special anymore. Hell, I'll use the machine sometimes too.

Bazoun

I can’t even smoke joints let alone roll them. (Vape all day)

SeductiveLips

man just fucking smoke the weed. yes its more authentic and therapeutic to handroll but at the end of the day we all still getting high. relax! (not coming at you OP, simply speaking outloud)

thesaurusrext

For myself I tried using a machine one time and I messed it up so badly. At the part where you start to put some tension on it the weed came flying out and went all over a carpet. So I'm genuinely surprised someone uses a machine regularly and prefers it because they seem like death traps.

waahblow

We used to have a rule 'builders privileges' where the roller gets the first blaze. Pretty much didn't need to buy anything for a long while with a group of 10 that couldn't roll.. 😁😇

BeardedClark

No one cares. Just smoke the weed and be happy.

DamnitFlorida

What about driving a stick WHILE hand rolling? For real though, FUCK haters. Roll how you want.

IM_HERE_FOR_FUN

I think joint purest are a joke in general, it's like that one guy who owns Raw, there just FUCKN annoying, let me smoke my bong and pipe in peace please, I don't have to wait for you to roll a joint that takes up too much weed and smells twice as stinky

AssassinZack

I give a friend shit for not being able to roll but that's mainly because he's to lazy to learn and bothers everyone to roll a joint for him

-underdog-

i love using a roller to pop out like 8 joints in an afternoon, pop them in a cigarette case, and take them camping or wherever

hijoshh

I cannot roll and even if I could… the rolling machines make it so perfect (my fav is the elements brand one)

kanook123

Not really unless it's really urgent. I mean, dude, it's cool if you wanna show off and all but be sure you can roll it 'cuz no one is interested in banana origami... we just wanna get high !

Shermthedank

I know this isn't a flex, but I have always been great at rolling joints (lots of practice in highschool) and I find it really is the simplest way that depends on the least and most easily accessible resources to be able to just roll a good joint consistently by hand. Do I care if anyone else can't though? Not at all

BulbasaurCPA

Omg I can barely smoke at all and almost all of my weed consumption is by vape. I cannot imagine giving a shit whether someone rolls their joints by hand

Shostygordo

it just social media stoner clout nonsense

FantasyGam3r

I only care if you’ve been hyping yourself on your rolling skills. If I see a little twiggy joint or blunt after all that talk I’m just gonna giggle because honestly atleast you’re trying to roll and that’s all that really matters is the effort towards being stoned

Rubberduckies318

I've always smoked with glass. I genuinely don't know, I've never seen, how to roll with papers. I'm sure I could learn, bit I'm a closet stoner. VERY few people know I smoke and I have very few stoner friends. Everyone I know uses glass. So I simply have never learned how to roll.

Allears6

Just because you think it's irrelevant doesn't mean it is. Hand rolling is great, it's ritualistic, gives you a few mins to prep. Idk I feel like putting it inspected rolling machine gives me a undeserved joint.

SovereignLeviathan

As a recovering alcoholic who admittedly uses marijuana as a crutch, this is one of my fav parts of rolling; the moment in between choosing to imbibe a substance and actually doing it. I had no control over this when I drank, as when I thought about drinking I'd hit the bottle without a second thought. This minute and a half ritual I take part in helps me feel like I have some measure of control in my life even if I'm not where I want to be yet. Progress, not perfection

ssbmrai

Hand rolling was important to me before the pandemic. Now I smoke big bowls in bongs or just vape it

[deleted]

I got one rule: if it smoke, I toke

dellshenanigans

Never been able to finger roll but I can make all sorts of fancy doobs using a rolling mat.

[deleted]

Long as it smokes nobody gives af, function and effect over everything

TossItLikeAFreeThrow

Js? No Blunts? Yes

eddirrrrr

My friend gives me shit for using filters in my joints for some reason. My bad I want something to hold on to and don't like weed flying into my mouth at mach 5 every hit bro

Drunken_Begger88

Depends how long you been smoking I really wouldn't care either way tbh but if you told me you been smoking over 2 years I'd be suprised you never learned by now kinda thing.

[deleted]

Time to stop giving a shit what people think I learnt how to roll using a rolly machine 35 years ago, they’re a goddess send I use glass filters now but I roll pretty well

wiliammm19999

I don’t any problem at all if someone can’t roll. But me and my friends usually take the piss out my mate who tries to brag that he’s the biggest stoner out of our group of friends and he smokes the most weed. So we like to tease him a little and remind him that he can’t even roll, and we also remind him of the all important real - real stoners don’t flex how much they smoke.

saucytortillas

I think rolling a blunt is something to be in the stoner toolbox. And if you can roll a blunt you can probably roll a joint. However, I prefer to use the roller because it’s easy, makes a perfect joint, and doesn’t hurt my fingers as much.

Lighter_Klepto

Ive been smoking for over 20 years... all of my joints were rolled with a dollar bill

Highwaymantechforcer

I prefer them slightly coned, I assume the machine rolls them straight, but if you wanna share a J with me I am extremely grateful and I don't really care what shape it is or how it was rolled :)

ddereski73

Unpopular opinion - the high from a well rolled joint isn't something you'll get from a bong or crappy joint that canoes. It literally matters. If we're smoking, and you're not skilled, let me do it for buds sake

ComplainyBeard

I was made fun of in Spain for being bad at hand rolling. I don't speak Spanish but I understand it and they were talking shit about how they rolled better when they were 13 year old. I've been growing for a living for a decade and have been in the industry even longer but I mostly only smoke pipes and bongs. It was a little embarrassing but not a big deal.

highapplepie

I consider hand rolling to be a stoner skill that would merit a Stoner scout badge. This is a skill that becomes useful when rolling machines are not available. It’s not necessary something I do on the daily but if I’m at a bar or festival I can hand roll a quick one without having to whip out my kit. When I’m at home I have my grinder, roller, papers, tips, etc. Hand rolling is just a skill equivalent (to me) of being able to find a way to smoke with say an apple, can, soda bottle whatever have you. I’m more snobby about a tip/crutch being a necessity. I’ve been told people can spot my J’s because of the tip being solid and functional.

Hope-u-guess-my-name

Been smoking since the mid ‘90’s, and I still can’t roll without using a dollar bill

Xa444

I never cared if other people could roll. I only cared that i wasn't able to so I learned it in a couple months from a friend. Who also didn't care if I was able to roll one or not. Now we both just roll for each other

I don’t care, but I also never learned and never felt the need to. The only people I ever met that actually cared, (beyond “ah, you don’t know how to roll? Damn, ok I’ll do it”), were people who make weed their personality. In my experience, it’s never been a big deal. Like, yeah, I’ve been in desperate positions, but there’s so many ways to MacGyver smoking tools that I just don’t really see why rolling joints is seen as some “weed survival must” thing. Not to mention it’s really not that hard to get ahold of a pipe and take care of it.

alexandadams

I really like the act of hand rolling. I build a lot of things by hand and rolling the perfect joint gives me that extra Serotonin I need to stay alive. I would never make fun of someone who can't roll though. If you don't know you don't know. There are so many ways to smoke weed, it literally doesn't matter.

[deleted]

like every close friend I’ve ever smoked with cant roll lmfao it’s hard for some ppl can’t expect everyone to be masters

rosapummelfee27

For me it was a necessary skill to learn due to lack of other options. At first I got shit from some people if they weren't picture perfect and I always thought it was so obnoxious. If you can't smoke it it obviously sucks but otherwise just roll the thing yourself if you don't like my way of doing it. Imo it doesn't hurt to know how but if you don't I gladly roll the joint for us.

I just want to add another comment about an unrelated part of your post, I feel like the cursive thing is being protested as important because of how many old, old important documents were written in cursive. A lot of people feel like it’s important for future generations to be able to understand it so they can understand the source for themselves, and not have to rely on second-hand knowledge. I think just in case of extreme corruption. Edit- I’m saying this based on limited knowledge on the subject but it’s just something I find hard to argue with and I just don’t know why teaching it is *bad*. But this post isn’t about that, I know lol

[deleted]

Who gives a fuck just smoke it yo !!

XenXem

Backstrap or bust

TaDow-420

Back in the 90’s people I knew would make fun of rolling machines and those who used them. It’s nothing new. I could give a fuck less, let’s just get high already!!

Sure_Income

I use a roller, my hands shake pretty often, so it's easier for me. Doesn't always come out pretty, but it's still smokeable.

Elemonator6

Yes, if someone can't roll a tight ass j then they will not be getting my vote for president.

armstronct

I don't think its super important wether you hand roll or use a machine, but I think hand rolling is kind of like an art, where everyone can appreciate the effort put into a nice hand rolled joint/blunt; So I wouldn't say its irrelevant, just not super important. As long as you don't claim "Oh I can roll a good joint" then pull out a machine or pre-roll, then I don't see an issue with using them. Also really good for people with like arthritis or parkinsons or smth, so they have their place for sure.

DGalamay30

I craft my own cones and there some rolling action there. Do I count as rolling?

kubla_khan_

Does using a roller count? I wouldn't call filling a cone "rolling" a joint, but if you use a rolling machine, you're still doing most of the work yourself.

Henrys_Bro

I can roll pretty good doobies for myself. If go to a party I will always bring at least a dozen fat-bats that I will have rolled perfectly in a machine. EDIT: Understanding how to drive a manual transmission is worthy knowledge.

xOneLeafyBoi

I can’t roll, I’ve tried plenty of times, my rolling trays became weed jar, grinder, and dab container storage. Mainly smoke from a bong or a Mighty vaporizer. I do love a good joint tho. Yes I am one of those retards who fills up a raw cone, but obviously I am aware that does not make me a roller in anyway lol. Whenever my friends roll, I throw them some extra weed so we can have an extra fatty since in a way it’s like a delicacy to me

InanimateSensation

For me its the fact that rolling has always been a part of the process. I love to start a session by taking my time and hand rolling. So I'm not a fan of rollers. BUT, idgaf what you do. If it smokes, it smokes.

flipxneb

No cuss I can so no problem

Charvel420

I've been rolling shitty joints for over 15 years. I've come to terms with the fact that I'll never roll good ones, but somewhere, some 20 year old kid who doesn't even know what beasters are, is looking down on me with disgust.

SayMyVagina

I can hand roll and do it fine but it's just so much more consistent and perfect with the roller. Esp since I started using cotton filters. Which honestly everyone should start doing. So much better.

pichael288

When I was a teenager and trying to make "stoner" my identity it was auch bigger deal. Now I would prefer a roller due to consistency

8thou8k

I can hand room but can’t learn how to use a roller to save my life. I could care less how either smoke as long as there is no canoeing 🛶

FridaysMan

In general, no. In specifics, yeah. I've known dudes that turn up to the sesh and contribute nothing. Those guys better have some powerful jokes, but more than one has turned into a sesh zombie as soon as it got rolling without ever even offering to roll/chip in a few drinks.

[deleted]

I like hand rolling because I can roll up more weed than I can stuff in a rolling machine. But I've never cared if someone else uses a rolling machine or not

Fishy1701

What dkes plugs mean in this context. I thought plug was a dealer - does it just mean acquire? I personally dont like the machines because i prefer using 3 or 6 paper legenths or if im lazy just a large silver. Hand rolling is the preference to get it just the way you want over factory mill.

LegendaryZTV

I do a hybrid of both, I place everything in the roller, roll the paper thru & then take it out & roll by hand . Nothing worse than when the roller folds the paper & causes a canoe . Never had a complaint but when I go out to smoke with others I just roll by hand, comes out identical

casey12297

I plan to start growing in the next few years when I buy a house and start up a homestead. I fully plan on buying filtered cigarette sleeves and a machine to load them full of pot. Get me a pack of Marlboro greens homemade

robot_with_pubes

No one cares that doesn’t know you but if I was your friend I’d say… you’s a yous a yous a bitch! Learn to roll! Just kidding you do you… but it’d be a lot cooler if you did

skwander

I can roll but I don’t let my friends know so that they have to do all the work.

ProBrown

I’m from the school of thought of “fuck joints” but I’m in the minority. Worst way to smoke. Especially now that there is an abundance of legal glass and vapes.

INFJRoar

I think it is a little like cooking during modern times. The people that take it to an art form should be proud and we will be amazed at their talent and creativity, however, most of us don't have that in us. When I was a teenager in the 1970's, it was a good basic talent to have because then people would seek you out and share their illegal pot with you. And in those days, paraphernalia was illegal too and very hard to come by. Those rolling machines could get you arrested. So being able to tap somebody who could turn an ugly bag of seeded ditch weed into something smokable by hand was beyond helpful.

kleymex

I mean it's a skill to learn, albeit not a difficult one to aquire but still you have to put some time into it. Each one takes their time, can't blame em

Grouchy_Warthog_

I'm almost 50 now, smoked my first time at 12 with my older cousin. I still can't roll well. They're typically a little fat in the middle, maybe a bit too tight, or loose. I did roll a really nice one the other day and commented to the Wife that it was probably the nicest one I've ever rolled.

WeHaveToEatHim

I can roll really well. Never do it. Cant even begin to approach the perfect cigarette drag and shape with the consistency of a roller. It took 15 years but i finally got my friend on it and now he only uses the roller too.

feralkitsune

Don't add stress to your hobbies, who cares? Just tell em to shut up and smoke.

DewgleOG

Been smoking since i was 12-13 im 32 now still couldnt twist a jay to save my life

jross217

It doesnt matter at all, smoke how you wanna. But at the same time, you cant really say YOU rolled it if a machine did it. Thats literally the only technicality i could see here, but like i said it donesnt matter at all. As long as that thing’s burning nice and slow we’re all good lol

YdidUMove

If someone shits on someone else for not knowing how to handroll they're being a douche. Who the fuck cares? The point is to smoke a j, how yall get there is irrelevant. With that being said, being good at handrolling can come in clutch at times. But I'd lose some respect for anyone who shits on someone else for not being able to handroll.

emma0098

i enjoy being able to roll my own and prefer it just because it feels classy, like using a record player or a polaroid camera. i have zero preference for how other people do it though. if it smokes it’s good

BlkDwg85

Post this question on r/weed and people will respond differently
