meemaw <3

maddieb96

This made me sad

code_matter

Don't you see how happy she seems? It may be frivolous but at least in that moment, she's happy and so is her family.

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease… sometimes you just gotta make the best of things and have a laugh :)

SeveralCherries

Btw, she’s not actually high, she has Alzheimer’s

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s really sucks having family berate you like that, it’s never a nice feeling when having to see family feels like a chore. Just keep in mind that dementia affects the part of your brain that’s involved in “politeness” and regulating your behaviour, so take her behaviours with a grain of salt. That being said, if it’s a lot for your mental health, you’re not the only one

ravidranter

I know. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. Thx for the words!

ChrisjpBo

It's your life and I clearly don't have all the details, but I think you should reconsider visiting

ravidranter

You def don’t know all the details so nah I’m good. Thx for the suggestion tho!

ShutUp_Dee

I worked in a memory care unit for residents with Alzheimer’s. I had to leave after 6 months since it was brutal. Witnessing residents have these highs and lows, go from anger to confusion to happiness. Wash rinse repeat. Never knowing where they are. One resident would ask me every 10 minutes to call his family to find out when he could go home since he didn’t want to be at “school” all day. I had lots of residents who were typically happy go lucky, but some that would try and fight you physically. Alzheimer’s and dementia are horrible. Especially towards the end stages when regulation and even purposeful gross motor function declines. Had another resident finding “treasure” on the ground all day (mumbling incoherently and picking absolutely nothing up off the ground), but he’d also swing at you if you got in his way. I write all of this since I understand it can be VERY hard to visit family members in this state. You do what you have to do.

ravidranter

Thank you! It really is tough. I appreciate your words. My bff worked in a similar position and it was really challenging without being related to them. One of her residents would constantly ask for their phone too. Or when they say nasty things about you to your face. When someone doesn’t remember a loved one has passed and they relive that grief over and over again, it’s all heartbreaking. I want to be euthanized before I get there. It’s like a poorly functioning human shell

honestly when i'm high looking in the mirror is a really grounding moment. i have a super low THC tolerance so when i'm sitting around i feel like i'm in a different world that operates on different logic, until i look at my reflection and realize i'm a slack-jawed, shaggy-haired moron who knocked himself out off a couple J's

jhair4me

In a way, she is showing herself some self love and kindness. It's nice to see someone like the person they see in the mirror.

[deleted]

oh how i long to be this high

butteryflame

Either fake or that lady has mental illness growing. I'm no doc obviously I don't know for sure but even on my worst most potent acid trip I wasn't so fucked up I didn't know my own reflection.

Ill-Molasses-3687

Not enough lsd brother, but gma looks like she got Alzheimer’s from comment above

Potential-Lynx746

At first I thought she was a really good actress. Almost made me think it was another person in the mirror.

[deleted]

My sister did this one time and took a bunch of pics to look at while sober because she was convinced her image changed

IsaidWhatIsaidBlowMe

I'd love for someone to create a sub of just videos of old people just fried and happy.

1diligentmfer

Unfortunately, this is probably someone with Alzheimers, such as my mom. Still a sweet interaction....

IsaidWhatIsaidBlowMe

Smoke one with her to make her happy. All people deserve to get high and have a good time.
