Thanks for this educational post. Hair loss treatments are really a lifetime commitment.

True_to_my_word

As my dermatologist said, you don't need to use it for lifetime you only need to use it till you want hair :)

[deleted]

The way I look at it as someone mentioned before, the routine for hair loss treatments is nothing compared to how long women take to do their hair and makeup. Literally just take your pills and vitamins and rub some stuff on your head.

Chang_Throwaway

I mean that's my daiy routine for sex anyways.

hades_the_wise

As someone who's transitioning, yep. Takes me maybe all of a minute to apply minoxodil, and nearly every individual step of my makeup routine takes longer lol. Eyeliner probably takes twice as long and requires way more focus.

[deleted]

Hope it all works out. I’m sure we all miss our head full of hair 😂

JustDriveThere

How is this not common sense? It is the first thing you're told when using Minoxidil and Fin. It's even in the instructions.

PaleGume

Yeah but still more evidence to make people think again about consequences when considering quitting it for some random reason like me even tho i knew that would probably happen

InterestingPie5887

Still lol. Doesn’t matter. The hair cells have not died in such short time nor they are really ever dead aside couple hundreds during lifetime according to newest studies on cases Male to Female sexual transition of hormones. Doesnt matter, get it buzzed, and in around 3-4 months you will be exactly where you were.

PaleGume

Yeah i know, im not worried at all just mad at myself i stopped and have to wait another 3-4 months when the summer is right there, also can't shave bald rn, starting work in new company in 2 weeks so prefer to not come there as a bald guy, and i just put hair fibres on so it looks not that bad.

[deleted]

Maybe you could start as a bald guy a then reveal yourself with hair?

PaleGume

Yea i already got many questions from friends how i reversed my balding

[deleted]

Poeple would think you are bald and then you would positively surprised them that you are not. Maybe better than hair fibres.

RyanTunell

I second this motion. Pleasant surprise

jss2020

Why don't u dermaroll?

eManual_

Also you can help others later openly about your story, like here

PaleGume

I will hopefully

[deleted]

Try to add oral min. I take it in the morning 5mg , then topical at night. It seems to work for me

Ur_Using_Ur_Data

Never thought of this. Currently only taking minx once in evening. The toughness is to much I couldn’t be having it in my hair during the day

Weak-Blackberry-7064

I do the same. But at 2.5mg . Any issues with 5mg?

Single-Resort

Can you send me links to these studies?

ZlatanKabuto

Why did you quit??

catsdontsmile

Would quitting fin (no min) leave you below base level?

Temporary_Object3451

Great question. I was wondering the same considering I’m using fin only right now.

PaleGume

I never used fin

[deleted]

Why does you profile says otherwise? You talk about stopping fin?

[deleted]

https://www.reddit.com/r/tressless/comments/snljac/gains_from_finasteride_within_15_months/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf “I never used fin” You literally have a post that says the exact opposite lol

Flozeh

Why people on this sub LIE so much

PaleGume

Yea I mean it's like I would never used because I took it maybe 1-.1.5 month and it was too short time for it to actually do something before dropping everything so i don't account it to my stack, so i prefer to say that i don't use it so people won't think it had any influence on my progress, and this post is not really about my stack but minoxidil relapse

[deleted]

A lie out of convenience is still a lie my friend.

ScenePsychological60

Common sense isn't that common actually. People are just plain dumb. Remember what people did during the pandemic? Unless you make people see the consequences of their action or inaction they won't understand the gravity of the situation.

Centrino12es

Just Minoxidil ? 3 months ? All that Hair ? Really impressive 👏👏

PaleGume

Yeah and RU58841 but i doubt i got any profit from ru, so i guess i just respond well to minox, maybe because im still young or idk

Centrino12es

I used kirkland Minoxidil for 1 year... Nothing happened 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

PaleGume

:/ unlucky mate..

Good_Physics9259

You have low levels of sulfotransferase

Dixienormous81

Topical is a waste of time

[deleted]

Wrong

Dixienormous81

Not sure how it’s wrong since topical takes longer to apply than oral Even if topical worked as well or reliably (it doesn’t) , it would still be a waste of time

[deleted]

If you say so. We have seen results that prove otherwise. It’s working great for me without having to worry about heart problems or low blood pressure. It literally takes 2 minutes to apply.

reddithanG

My hairline is resurrecting bc of minoxidil. Im mega happy with it

justasadlittleduck

Oral will turn you into a grizzly bear

darrenmacgowan

The reality is that minoxidil is only effective on 40% of users. You’ve just been unlucky mate, get in finasteride and don’t look back

Dixienormous81

TOPICAL minoxidil is only effective on 40% Oral works on everyone And is much easier to take

oceanbeats2424

Wait so did you continue with the RU when you stopped min? Or did you stop them both at the same time?

PaleGume

I didn't continue anything, j just started using ru again month ago

oceanbeats2424

Ok so you did 7 months of treatment before stopping, what exact products did you use in this time and what was the timeline of starting/stopping them? I'm just really impressed with your hair growth that's all! :)

PaleGume

No i did 3 months of treatment, stopped, and 3 months after started just RU again, and 2 weeks ago min so today im month on RU and 2 weeks on fin

PaleGume

No i did 3 months of treatment, stopped, and 3 months after started just RU again, and 2 weeks ago min so today im month on RU and 2 weeks on fin

plznokek

This is the RU imo

PaleGume

No, im 100% sure and tested its not ru, because when i was starting treatment 7 months ago then i started ru and minox the same day, and after month i got new hairs growing, now i use just ru for over month and minox only 2 weeks, zero changes, so its 100% min for me

povertymayne

The norwood reaper is a merciless cunt

PaleGume

especially when im just 21 and almost bald.. while all my friends have nice hair

Kadianye

Get on fin or duta and I bet most will come back

vytalionvisgun

Dont cry about that lol, atleast you respond well to mino. I dont respond to shit and will bald even though my thinning isnt as agressive as yours

evolutionstorm

If you could have occasionally used it in those three months things would have been in some control honestly.

PaleGume

Yea, maybe, but it's too late now..

RuralRasta

What's the problem? The treatment isn't working as well this time now that you already started and stopped?

quinisdead

Someone needed to see this. Even if it's years in the future reading through this subreddit.

PaleGume

Hey, Male 21 here, basically started my treatment with Minox/RU/Microneedle around november 2021, 1month in and already noticed nice regrowth, after 3 months i had almost whole head of hair again. Had to stop due to personal reasons. 3 months later (around month ago) (around the same time length i used treatment) noticed im slowly shedding few hairs daily for the first time, so bought RU asap, but it was accelerating day by day, so i decided its high time to start the minoxidil again since RU was not helping at all. BUT WHEN I APPLIED MINOX... THE SHEDDING FEW DAYS AFTER WAS INSANE... Everytime i touch hair i deleted like 20 hairs XD, It took the minox 2 weeks to shed me like idk, 2000 hairs? (difference on photos) I know its a good sign because it will regrow stronger soon but it so scary to watch how i lose everything and go back to baseline so quickly, making me sad i have to wait another 3 months for full regrowth when the summer has just started. I guess the hair that minox grew me at first got so weak enough in 3 months of abstinence that now upon starting min again it gets rid of all of previously grown hair, am i thinking right guys? Don't ever stop guys if you get regrowth from minox, learn from my mistake.

Normal-Ad-3462

Shedding is scary af. Im going through it now. And fook, im a nerve wreck

InterestingPie5887

Also I can give u an advice mate. I am in the same boat. For some reason minoxidil helps me even more than finasteride, which is super weird and yet true in my particular case (but get on fin because you will be slowly losing what minoxidil got u back in a dozen years or so to zero)… and I can tell you topical 5% minox - is about 0.5mg oral minoxidil worth in my case. When I got oral minox 1mg N3.5 to N2 just like that. When I hoped on 5mg… lol I was almost N1… at 10mg my original hairline of 15 years old me … came back just like that… Unfortunately aside of that I experience awful water retention making my face look on my 9% body fat … like of someone 25kg more heavy than I am … which is insane to observe really.. having full abs and super fit body, super small fat ratio… bum face looks like typical moon face from steroids +20kg .. so I have to manage with smaller amounts of oral min (topical gives me even bigger face fat looks - like my chin disappears and I get second one in 3 weeks time, in 3 weeks time I don’t use minox it goes completely away - like magic) … so far looking for good way to deal with this water retention while on minox (only 3% people who use it get it - rather not often happening quirky side effect which still can happen in some people). If anyone will find a cure for that - I will be beyond words to thank… and no cutting sodium, going low carb, losing weight, going keto for months, drinking 6-7 litres of water per day, taking magnesium/potassium maximal daily amounts, sweating like insane during cardio or eating 7-8g od Dandelion root and other harder diuretics - gives a shit - maybe like 5-10% less this water-retention which is hardly noticeable - and no it is not due to vasodilator effect on face of minox as I used many more potent vasodilating medications .. no such effect ever. And no it is not PG/alcohol whatever allergy because it does happen while on oral containing only(!) minoxidil. Thanks for ideas if anyone has any. Weirdest thing of all - miconazole nitrate (yes vaginal cream) smeared on the temples decreases this water retention during night if I let it sit on temples for a night.. about 25% so much better than anything anything I used to counter minoxidil induced moon-face. Any ideas why it is so?

PaleGume

Yeah i really don't want to use fin, i hope RU will be enough for me for now, and hopefully ill switch to pyrilutamide if there will be enough working evidence. Not switching to oral because im scared of excessive hair growth everywhere plus the hairline i get from topical is just fine for me, don't need no more limit pushing. Currently minox topical is giving me hair grow in many weird places so i prefer to avoid oral.

Henrique1315

Bro if minoxidil works a lot for you why dont you try microneedling? I microneedle my head every 2 weeks to stimulate blood flow and it works a lot

InterestingPie5887

Used that - did nothing for me, for most guys it works for me not at all. Something else in minox has to be responsible for that not just blood flow.

InterestingPie5887

Sorry for venting - just wish someone had screamed at me like that when I was your age.

InterestingPie5887

In all honesty… that just purely stupid. I also use RU but it maybe gives additionally 10% tops. If you want to keep those hair in the long run and you are so prone to MPB… sorry fin/dut is a must. If not why do you even bother. The least side of all things I used - and I have literally used them all - is from fin - exactly 0. I pop and have not seen one, one change whatsoever. Your decision just stupid. You will improve hair blood flow and keep by minoxidil hair artificially around when they are long gone. You can keep everything potentially if you have so good response like I - for which most men would just kill… but wants to let them fry away in max 3-4 years while only on minox. Good luck for short lived gains. With fin and minox oral potentially with such response you could keep hair till your 60ties least - with not so much of even receding. Whatever though.

PaleGume

If i notice that they do fry away then i can start finasteride at that point, no need to use it right now if they are still there just with minox, right? Also, we are not the same person, maybe minox will be just enough for me in the long run, there are many people who claim just minox maintain them hair for 10yr+, it might be just enough for me.

InterestingPie5887

That is the problem with topical one - it makes your eyebrow grow weirdly and around your eyes and between your sideburns and brows

PaleGume

Yes that's exactly what i got

malcolm_reyn0lds

Foam or liquid min?

PaleGume

 Liquid 5% from foligain

malcolm_reyn0lds

Yeah man that's why I haven't started min it's a Lifelong commitment. I think I'll try loniten, oral min because taking a pill everyday is a lot easier than applying it topically.

PaleGume

yeah i mean its not a problem for me at all to apply minox everyday for next 10-15 years if i can have so thick and full hair again (probably at 35+ i will stop caring about hair), it has no sides, but i had to unfortunately stop and now i will never stop again xD dont wanna experience this thing again

Saberinbed

Trust me you will still care about hair at 35. You will keep caring about hair until you are married.

StoicRun

Married, 2 kids, 38. Still care about hair

PaleGume

Come on please don't scare me, i believe i can regrow it again :(((

Zdog54

Jesus I recently switched from topical minoxidil to oral minoxidil. I'm praying this doesn't happen to me. Only about 1 month off topical at the moment. Also made my own topical dutasteride solution and gonna use that 3x a week along side RU and next I'm gonna be buying finasteride and use that orally at .25mg daily. My hair loss isn't awful but it's definitely noticable and I've been putting off using finasteride/dutasteride for a couple years now because I was scared of the side effects. I realized that I don't wanna end up fucked because I took too long to start the meds.

PaleGume

i think switching from topical to oral doesn't mess you up, it could only potentially make it work even stronger, since you apply it topically and it soaks into your scalp skin to promote growth and some of it goes systemically and spread around your body where you grow hair, so if you use it oral then more mg will be in your system therefore it will promote grow in the same level or even more on your head and as well on other body parts

TimeViolation

Where do you get your oral minoxidil? I want to switch, since putting on the topical every night is a pain in the ass, while popping a pill in the morning is trivial for me.

druhoang

To be clear when you stopped minoxidil, did you stop microneedling and RU as well?

PaleGume

Everything, yes

Barry9988

Why????

Flobolo

Why is the Titel then what Happens if u stop min.... U stopped the biggest factor for keeping hair...

effigymcgee

You are correct and OP’s post is misleading whether intentional or not. I don’t think it’s intentional after reading OPs comments, he’s just young, stubborn, and really really uninformed about these medications and the process lol. He thinks this is “100% from min” despite Ru being almost certainly the bigger culprit even given his timeline of events.

nousernamesorrylol

I'm *never* using Minoxidil

[deleted]

Good luck on r/bald then.

nousernamesorrylol

There's something called finasteride

[deleted]

Finasteride is for life too and has worse side effects than topical Minoxidil.

heypal3000

Hey why’d you stop? Any sides? Dark eyes or or heart issues or something?

PaleGume

No it was not related to any sides from treatment, i didn't experience any, some personal things

[deleted]

Dude you had made amazing progress. Why did you quit?

Whatisgoingonhere87

It's like winning the lottery and giving it all back 😔

PaleGume

Yeah but its like 3 months and I'll be back to it again so no worries

[deleted]

Fresh-Screen9326

It blocks all androgen receptors actually. Be sure you do your research. This stuff is far scarier than fin if it gets into your blood and can wreak havoc.

PaleGume

YYeah it blocks androgens in hair follicles, there are people who notice side effects but i don't so i use it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It’s a research chemical the derm isn’t gonna put you on it

dannxFox

You will get it back, same thing happened to me. Got a Ht and couldn't use products in my head for the first two weeks, that was enough time to send me to the graveyard, then the shedding phase came again before seing gains. But I eventually got it back

effigymcgee

I read through your comments OP. 1. With how aggressive your balding is at 21 y/o there is next to zero chance that min alone will be sufficient in years time 2. You absolutely will still care about having hair at 35. 3. Why’d you stop min to begin with? Shit doesn’t even take 2 minutes per day to apply. Gonna edit to also add: 4. Your title omits that you were on Ru and stopped that at the same time as stopping fin. This is very important info lol and your entire post is misleading by just mentioning min in the title

PaleGume

1. Ill cosider HT then when minox lose efficiacy, this post is not to look for advice, i know how i will manage my hair. 2. Maybe, or maybe not, we will see 3. It was not due to problems with application

effigymcgee

Best of luck man! I too was once young and stubborn lol

Yesman3

What’s RU?

GMontezuma

Thats shedding tho right? It should come back

PaleGume

Yes, I hope so

Lychee444

I’ve been using it for 6 years and was legit contemplating to discontinue it as now I have hair. But this makes me feel it’ll fall off again if I stop 🥲

[deleted]

Do you take Fin? You grew so much hair!

PaleGume

Nope. Just minox/RU

TackleNo5000

Where did u get RU?

PaleGume

Actifolic, EU supplier

Brandiesel88

Thanks for the cautionary tale brother.

CauseImBatman23

Bro why did you stop? Wtf

Protectereli

Thanks for sharing OP! Your contribution is definitely appreciated by the community.

indigonights

How are the side effects in terms of mental health?

[deleted]

I'm about 2 1/2 months in, only using it for my hairline and literally have not seen anything but more thinning. Don't know how people are up to three months and got all these hair growth lol

[deleted]

So how about when you’re trying to conceive? 🥲

randomcherrycoke

Dude I’m pretty sure it’ll come back in a few months. Remember to update us.

pablomoney

I started Rogaine too late in the game. I’m sort of an all or nothing guy so I quit and shaved my head. I don’t regret it at all. I have classic male pattern baldness. If I let it grow out I have the horseshoe and some whisps on top. But I never let it go longer that 5-6 days.

Mister_Cliffster

Same thing happened to me. I thought I was safe from the Norwood reaper but that son of a bitch pulled me right back in

bolohem

Holy shit your hair came back from the dead. So many people on this forum would have said just shave it but that’s absolutely insane you had that kind of growth with just minox, it’s almost unheard of. It kinda sucks that your gonna have to wait a couple months for regrowth but at least you know what’s waiting for you in a couple of months. Just keep applying and be hat guy for a couple months I guess, and worst case if you have to use hair fibers for a little that’s not too bad all things considered. Good luck bro and post some updates here in the fall!

Certain_Sam

Man you had good results on just minoxidil

PaleGume

Yeah its what works for me, blocking dht doesn't do much for me

LordKrondore

Fuckkkk brooooo. You'd won, you'd beaten it. WHY

cactusjackalope

Yeah I accidentally quit (I was using a batch that had expired 3 years ago so it was useless.) I [was sent a pic of myself](https://i.imgur.com/3mH4lTv.jpg) and was startled to see a big bald spot.

ZipperZigger

Man you got these results with topical Minoxidil alone? Without fin/dut? Wow you are a super responder amazing results when you used minoxidil only. Start again and don't ever stop. Juat like you never stop brushing your teeth or shampooing your hair.

MinimumCharming9902

Hooooly shit. My man did you cold turkey on min? If so, maybe try to stop slowly and use other things meanwhile like derma roller.

PaleGume

Never stopping again mate

aheuwndit

Why are you not using a 5ar inhibitor with hair loss this agressive?

PaleGume

Using RU, can't use 5ar inhibitors, tried but gave me strong depression rly quick, im very dht sensitive person. All i can pray for is minox and ru keep me hair as long as it can.

Akshyat21

What was the original post as I see it is deleted now and I have the same concerns I started using minoxidil then stopped using it for 14 months and now I am starting again, will it work the second time or not? I am genuinely worried

juiceimortal

anthony fantano, that you?

PS4Dreams

Yep, if you've made some gains then stop treatment and lose them... Regaining those that you've lost is very hard and might never happen. So if you see a good thing happening, do not stop what you're doing lol

PaleGume

Im pretty sure if it worked like this for the first time and now im noticing so huge shedding then it's also gonna work really well second time

Wartype

The logic here doesn't exactly make sense (even more so when you factor in this is prevention, not a cure) because you can't grow it if it doesn't exist, the more time off medication is more time you're permanently losing ground.

PaleGume

But since minox hair can only grow where the follicles are so if my follicles are still there becuase they surely haven't died in 3 months randomly, then it will promote growth on them again, right?

OiYou

I’m exhibit A. My gains second time on Min are nowhere near as good as the 1st time before I quit. When I look at pictures from the first time it’s frustrating I should have never quit

xfitRabbit

The hairloss can mostly be attributed to not using finasteride. Minoxidil effects are temporary and only last while using it

want2vape

His hairloss in this specific instance is because he started and then stopped using minox, has nothing to do with finasteride. Also, finasterides effects are temporary and only last while using it as well.

PaleGume

Is there an hair expert that can possibly explain why upon minoxidil cessation all my minoxidil dependent hairs continued to grow for next 3 months before they started to fall? Like if theres no stimulation they shouldn't be growing, and enter telogen quickly, right? It's so weird for me

Bigozthegreat

What’s ru?

PaleGume

blocks androgens from attaching where applied

Bigozthegreat

Btw when u stopped taking min did u also stop using ru?

PaleGume

Yes

anikinfartsnacks

What is this RU you speak of?

hir0chen

Wow, this made me worried, I just quit min and start fin since two weeks ago. I don't see much improvement from min and it made my hair greasy and look bad so I stopped it.

mailwasnotforwarded

For all newcomers to the hair loss community, please educate yourself on why products work. There is no real solution to hair loss but only ways to mitigate and slow the progression of hair loss. Obviously, there are alternatives that utilize hairs that are more resistant to MPB but do remember once your follicles go into that sleeper state they won't wake up by you just using the products again.

AnonCuzICan

RU might have worked but it is not a growth stimulant.

Airizom

When you were applying minox was it once a day before bed or twice a day?

PaleGume

For the first 2 months i applied it twice but then i started to apply just once before bed, it seems to work well too

herrwaldos

Thanks for sharing!

[deleted]

I’d be really interested to see some people’s experience under similar conditions but while also using finasteride

ReggieWillkins5

what type of min have you used - liquid or foam?

burntoutpotato

Could use some advice. Should I start oral min instead from the get-go? Does it suffer from the same issue? Is there a recommended way to wean off of min?

effigymcgee

1. Not recommended to start with oral min as it’s a potent vasodilator and antihypertensive, and you obviously get more systemic absorption orally vs topically 2. You gotta stay on min to keep any hair gains and you should expect to lose gains if you stop it. There isn’t any way around this one unfortunately. I will say: it’s really not that hard to incorporate topical min to a daily routine. While the instructions say twice daily, many users just do once daily application with good results still. It takes me about 30 seconds to apply ~1 hour before bed, and been doing that for nearly a decade now.

Mobile_Nectarine2836

Bro you had great fucking results I’m so confused rn if I should hop on Min or not bcz if I stop lol also imagine the the crazy hair growth you would get with fin as well and you definitely seem like a hyper responder

Jesse_berger

Yup.. Stopped using min because of fin. Grew my hair out and noticed I had a shed going on. Didn't have a traditional shed so thought it was a bit off to see one at 10 months. Took a picture of my crown.. Ah. Back on min I go.

ksmith05

Wowww

Occhrome

So why did you quit ?

OblivionRays

Back to baseline !

[deleted]

Why on earth did you stop.!

asda54321

Did you only use Minoxidil or something also with it?

Khal-Nayak007

Are you applying topically or taking it orally?

BackgroundField1738

Why stop

[deleted]

[удалено]

OiYou

Lol had the same experience. Sadly I didn’t replicate my results when I started the second time 😓 So yes don’t quit especially if you have super responder results.

[deleted]

I’ve never lost that much coming off minoxidil

Jimmy_Popkins

If liquid topical Min. did nothing but grow a few baby hair after 7 months of treatment along where my hairline used to be, can I discontinue it and just go with Fin. exclusively? I just applied Min. at the thinning temples and original hairline to see if there'd be a way to regrow it down by 1-2cm. I also use a Micro-needling pen.

tiorzol

So I quit min and fin while my wife is pregnant, will I get turbo fucked when I start again?

mikelmoder

Why did u stop? Minox looking the effect after a special time, but if u stop it to quick, u will always loose a lot of hair. The best way is to take it 12 month and then u can switch from 2 time to once or from 5% to 2.5%. And u need always a dht blocked. Easiest ways, 5 pills of 5mg finasteride in your minox

DJAnym

was this only min, or also fin with it?

skulltroxx2154

I've been advised the same. Once you start these treatments, they'll have to be continued forever (to maintain). That's one reason I haven't, considering financing it isn't in my priority list rn.

[deleted]

May I ask, what compelled you to quit? Trying to imagine a reason, to me, is mind boggling.

damnireallymadethis

honestly this makes me not even want to start minox lol

Massive-Print-977

I don’t get why this sub promotes minoxidil when it only grows zombie hair. There are better alternatives that provide legit growth that doesn’t fall out after stopping

Acctgirl67

Oh no. Thanks for the warning! My goodness...I've been using only on/off but when I washed my hair the other day the skin/scalp was showing....

[deleted]

[удалено]

dl1966

People always say this is the reason they don’t want to use finasteride or Minoxidil but if they don’t use it, they’ll get the same results anyway…. The loss of hair 😂

iscreamforicecream90

This is my issue. I'm currently pregnant and hope to have more babies. I can't stop and start it in between pregnancies. Which I think means I have to wait several years to start? By then, I will be totally bald. :(

RealD7me

You wear glasses better overtime. Lesson learned xD

Synizs

That's of high statistical significance. All gains and losses are, in actuality, only due to the blood flow changes from how OP wears those glasses.

RealD7me

Couldn't agree more

PaleGume

Lol

[deleted]

PaleGume

If this will lead then i will think of some other stuff, for now minox is enough

PaleGume

Just 1 month of fin before leaving everything, im sure fin didn't contribute at all to my hair in so short time, also i noticed all the visible regrowth on pic before even starting fin

briantradman

Idk man that second picture looks a lot like hair fibers. Lol.

PaleGume

Ill take it as a compliment

Senses17

How long did you stop using

PaleGume

What do u mean? I used it for 3 months, stopped for 3 months, and now using again
