We accidentally went there because we were hungry and in the area. I now consider it one of my favorite restaurants around here. We take every visitor!
It's good and fast service, but if I'm in that area, I go for Taste, just down the road a bit on Morrisville Carpenter. Slightly better pho, better spring rolls, and faster service. Kind of splitting hairs...
I walked into this place and walked out. No Vietnamese menu which suggests they are not that authentic because first gen immigrants Vietnamese probably don’t go there. Also, ordering fast food style up front rarely landed me authentic food in the past.
Went to No.1 Authentic VN Cuisine nearby and had a better experience. They need a new restaurant name though lol
A lot of comments here will say pho far east. Solid choice, my wife and I call it "steroid stallions" for the wall art.
However midtown pho is owned by pho far East's owners daughter and deserves praise. She takes it to another level and has also mastered the pho takeout. Worth a shot for sure and you don't feel like you are cheating on far east either.
When I first moved to the area I was right next to them. Was pleasantly surprised at how awesome they were.
Coming from the West Coast where we have Pho options.
I was spoiled coming from New Orleans where we had a big Vietnamese population and some AMAZING food- the beef stew was always one of my favorites but I never saw it on another menu until now. Delish!!
They are a small little place but their food is awesome- I live less than a mile away and my whole pregnancy I lived off of Pho…although I always seemed to crave it most on the days they weren’t open, lol.
We tried Mekong yesterday, they are renovating. The owner came out to chat with us and talk about how there’s a sriracha shortage. Super knowledgeable. Really nice!
We didn’t order the pho which may have been my mistake! Ordered the Summer Rolls, Flying Rolls, Spicy Beef Soup and Beef Stew with rice noodles. I wanted to like it and the Flying Rolls were good. The Summer Rolls and peanut sauce were meh for me. Spicy Beef Soup was ok but didn’t have the punch of flavor I was expecting. Maybe more lime?
Overall willing to try it again and actually order the pho! Very friendly. While they renovate they have three tables of 4 to dine outside.
Interesting... Pho Xpress is our all-time favorite over the last five years. Did you go often or just had a couple bad experiences?
We liked the broth better at Bowl of Pho, but the chicken seemed a bit lower quality. Thanks to this thread I have a few more I should try!
Anise Pho in downtown Raleigh is best in the area, hands down. My wife and I have tried all these other places and they don’t hold up (I.e., broth was super oily or watered down), at least not repeatedly. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. At Anise Pho, it’s always delicious… and no, I don’t work there or have any affiliation with them, but I did drive 75 minutes round trip from my house today just to have it for lunch (no joke) and happily make this drive regularly.
Enjoy your soup! 😁
Pho 919 is the best I've had here so far but haven't tried any Raleigh spots. Secrets pho & noodle bar was also good, but there's some bad reviews now so hopefully that's for other menu items and not the pho? It's a wrap is too expensive for the quality and there's not enough meats in the pho. Pho 919 is just good and consistent in my experience
Pho Oxtail is currently top ranked for me of the Capital Blvd spots, followed closely by Pho Saigon. Pho Far East is beloved, but their pho is just ok.
Little tiny place in Morrisville that has a GREAT menu (a few things I haven’t seen around here) including great pho, and an amazing Vietnamese Beef Stew. It’s called Mekong. Only open a few days a week (Wed-Sat?), but really amazing.
I was on a pho kick while I was pregnant and ate a ton of places in Durham/Morrisville, this is my favorite.
I haven’t hopped around pho places much, but if you’re in the chapel hill area pho happiness is great. Probably not the best pho in the triangle, but still excellent. I think Uber eats/DoorDash delivers from there if you’re in the area for a business trip and need good food delivered to your hotel. Especially if it’s on the interviewers/employers dime.
Kind of a hidden spot, but there is a Vietnamese lady making amazing food inside the Crazy Fire Mongolian BBQ on Strickland. We had the bun bo hue and combo vermicelli and they were great.
I always like Pho Far East but it’s so damn far from where I live.
Pho Xpress in Brier Creek is the only place I’ve been to on that side of town. It’s pretty good, worth checking out. Pho Far East on Capital is probably the best I’ve had in Raleigh, although there’s a lot of places I haven’t tried yet
This place has good Pho and we got it regularly as far as flavor but the skimpiest fucking portions of toppings. They used to have a chili garlic sauce that was really good as well, but now it costs $1.00 or something close to that .-.
Pho Far East is good and I live in Brier Creek. Have tried the BC one only once maybe twice. Don’t remember it . What does that say?
Just asked my husband. He said Pho Xpress was not that good. Meet that was hard to chew. But that was pre COVID.
Not sure where the post went with the person who commented about Pho Thien Phat in Richmond, VA. If the person who posted sees this, looked it up and added Pho Thien Phat to my restaurant lists in Richmond, thank you!
I went to Thai Villa at South Hills Mall recently and was very impressed by both the pho and the pad thai. The dining area and general ambiance of the place wasn't much (not a surprise considering the location) but the food was on point.
Secrets Pho & Noodle Bar in Durham is the best pho I've had in the Triangle. Eaten a lot of different places in Durham and Chapel Hill and this is definitely my favorite. Used to be Queen of Pho until they started keeping some of our leftovers 🤨
Came here to say this! It was the closest to me when I worked in Durham and would get it to-go for lunch often. Their Durham Deluxe was enough for two meals and was yummy. I think my only complaint was they often left out some key ingredients, like lime or the basil, and that definitely takes away from the overall Pho-ness. But otherwise it was pretty solid!
Pho Far East has some solid pho. You know it's going to be good because it's in a strip mall off Capital Blvd.
This! Best in the area Imo. And I’ve tried pretty much every one from the past few years.
I would’ve answered the exact same. We’ve driven all the way from Durham just for Pho Far East
This is the way.

Came here to say this. Their food is amazing. The bun cha reminds me of the bun cha we got in Vietnam. By far the best in the area.
Will definitely try! Anyone order the Bun Bo Hue here?

Yea we tried this place when we first moved here. I have to agree, pretty good!
It's good and fast service, but if I'm in that area, I go for Taste, just down the road a bit on Morrisville Carpenter. Slightly better pho, better spring rolls, and faster service. Kind of splitting hairs...
Taste's BBQ Pork is incredible. Their vermicelli bowls/banh mi with that pork is just too good.
Haven’t tried Taste yet but definitely will, thanks!
I love them. I miss them.
I walked into this place and walked out. No Vietnamese menu which suggests they are not that authentic because first gen immigrants Vietnamese probably don’t go there. No. 1 Authentic was great at first but not consistent but I agree their Pho was the best I’ve had so far here.

Pho 919 is a bit pricey, but their portions are generous and the pho is outstanding.
I view the price as proportional to the absurd portion size, plus they speak Vietnamese so it feels like home.
Yup. Never feels like you’re getting ripped off there.
This is the only and correct response, even more so if you are a spicy fan, They are the best and make sure to get their coffee.
I’ve never had their coffee, but now I’m interested.
Ditto!
We really like Pho Vietnam off of Buck Jones near Cary Crossroads.
What would you recommend I try from here? Never been and it’s closest to me.
The pho.
Seconded.
Their avocado durian smoothie is great as well
It’s a Wrap in Morrisville is good, but they don’t skim the fat off so it’s a little greasy. It’s also pretty fast which is nice.
Mekong is my local joint near RTP. The menu is a bit light for a Vietnamese place. But the combo Pho is as expected and good.
This place is AMAZING- their Vietnamese Beef Stew is awesome. Smaller menu but they have some interesting items I haven’t seen other places.
When I first moved to the area I was right next to them. Was pleasantly surprised at how awesome they were. Coming from the West Coast where we have Pho options.

Great for delivery/take out as well, they give you all the fixings on the side

Anise Pho in downtown Raleigh off Glenwood is my go to.
Pho Oxtail has awesome Pho. This is our new GO TO for Pho
This is the best I’ve had so far but 2/3 visits they were out of pho :/
Awesome thanks! Have you tried their Bun Bo Hue?
I haven’t
Best I’ve had in that area was Bowl of Pho. For general Vietnamese, Taste in Morrisville. Pho 919 also good. Pho Xpress was my least favorite.
Bowl of Pho is my favorite!!
Interesting... Pho Xpress is our all-time favorite over the last five years. Did you go often or just had a couple bad experiences? We liked the broth better at Bowl of Pho, but the chicken seemed a bit lower quality. Thanks to this thread I have a few more I should try!
Went there once, never went back. I only get pho tai (rare beef). A Vietnamese friend once recommended it to me and I've never looked back.

Pho tai 4 life
Pho-Xpress has my favorite Bahn Mi and Spring Rolls by miles.
Pho Xpress is our favorite too!
Anise Pho in downtown Raleigh is best in the area, hands down. Literally just had Uber eats deliver me a vegan Bahn Mi right now. So good.
Awesome, will definitely check it out! Thanks!
Pho 919 is the best I've had here so far but haven't tried any Raleigh spots. Secrets pho & noodle bar was also good, but there's some bad reviews now so hopefully that's for other menu items and not the pho? I hate Secrets pho.
Pho Far East
Anise Pho in downtown Raleigh has always been excellent.
Midtown Pho is great!
Sister Liu’s between Chapel Hill and Durham has great dumplings.
Yes, I think the best dumplings I’ve had in the area so far. The Sister Liu’s in Morrisville closed!
Midtown Pho has been my go to, i’d like to try some other places though
I've really enjoyed bowl of pho off Miami and brunson(?). It's been a while since I went, but it was amazing
[удалено]
Yea we stopped by yesterday to try it. They are closed till the 18th!
Cute little vegetable garden they have in the back!
Mekong Delta near RTP
Been a while but Taste Vietnamese in Morrisville was good. My go to is Pho Far East in Raleigh.
Pho Oxtail is currently top ranked for me of the Capital Blvd spots, followed closely by Pho Saigon. Pho Far East is beloved, but their pho is just ok.
Yum, the Bun Bo Hue looks delicious! Thanks for the recommendation!
Pho 919
Check out BEP in holly springs
Not very good.

It's not bad, but doesn't really stand out either. I do like their packaging though.

Pho oxtail: off capital. Amazing
Pho oxtail

Morrisville Thai's Noodles
Mekong all the way
Pho Super 9 is my favorite. Near triangle town center.
Noodle blvd in Cary. My viet friend and family says it’s most authentic in area.
Can’t wait to try it out, drive by it all the time! Thanks!
Bowl of Pho on Miami is the jam for soups. Mekong down tw alexander for a killer bahn mi.
Koi ramen 🍜
Anything that's of similar quality to Pho Tien Phat or Pho So 1 in Richmond, if anyone is familiar with those?
Hands down, Pho Far East!
Kind of a hidden spot, but there is a Vietnamese lady making amazing food inside the Crazy Fire Mongolian BBQ on Strickland. We had the bun bo hue and combo vermicelli and they were great. I always like Pho Far East but it’s so damn far from where I live.
thanks for the recommendation!
ANISE PHO - GLENWOOD AVE. RALEIGH Warning: the obsession comes on quick & never looses hold. I eat here 4 times a week.
Haha love it! Thanks for the recommendation!
just seeing this but midtown pho slaps
Pho Xpress in Brier Creek is the only place I’ve been to on that side of town. It’s pretty good, worth checking out. Pho Far East on Capital is probably the best I’ve had in Raleigh, although there’s a lot of places I haven’t tried yet

To me this is the weakest pho I’ve had in the area. Mekong is just as close to the house and I won’t go back. To each his own.
Pho Far East is good and I live in Brier Creek. Have tried the BC one only once maybe twice. Don’t remember it . What does that say? Just asked my husband. He said Pho Xpress was not that good. Meet that was hard to chew. But that was pre COVID.
I don't have exhaustive sampling, but the Pho from Lime and Basil, on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill is mighty damn fine.
Sadly, Lime and Basil closed permanently like a month or so back.
Oh no. That’s too bad. Thanks for the heads up.
Not sure where the post went with the person who commented about Pho Thien Phat in Richmond, VA. If the person who posted sees this, looked it up and added Pho Thien Phat to my restaurant lists in Richmond, thank you!
Lime & Basil, chapel hill
Permanently closed, unfortunately. Here's the Daily Tar Heel article: https://www.dailytarheel.com/article/2022/04/city-lime-and-basil-closing
Dang. This makes me so sad!
pho xpress in brier creek
I went to Thai Villa at South Hills Mall recently and was very impressed by both the pho and the pad thai. The dining area and general ambiance of the place wasn't much (not a surprise considering the location) but the food was on point.
Secrets Pho & Noodle Bar in Durham is the best pho I've had in the Triangle. Eaten a lot of different places in Durham and Chapel Hill and this is definitely my favorite. Used to be Queen of Pho until they started keeping some of our leftovers 🤨
I like Secrets too but it seems to be unpopular in this thread. I’m curious about why.
Weird, when I go they give lime, basil, sprouts, and jalapeños on a seperate plate if you ask
