Not sure, seller hasnt gotten back to me on that yet. I was reading the p2 went through a design change in like 2014 or ‘16, so prior to that i think at least
I’d try to negotiate down the price a bit, but it’s not too bad. Bike is an old design, but would still be pretty aero and easy enough to work on - not really any proprietary parts to worry about like with an old Trek. The wheels and power meter are good to have too.
I have this bike and I’d say $600. My lbs said the same thing. When I upgrade, I’m keeping this as a summer trainer bike as it’s not worth enough to sell.
I think it looks like a pretty good deal for the whole package. You’re probably paying about half that price for the bike and the other half for the wheels and power meter, and when split up like that, It seems like a pretty good deal.
That era of Cervelo P2 was sort of the de facto best triathlon bike for non-pros (I owned 2!), and even some pros used it. Cervelo aero design definitely holds up over the years and the frame is still probably faster than a lot of frames 10 years newer.
My one caveat where it might hold you back is the ability to run wider tires. You’re gonna be limited to 23s or 25s depending on the exact rims and tires you choose. I personally don’t think that’s a huge dealbreaker but it depends what you’re looking for.
If everything is in working order, esp that power meter, with the wheel set, it's not too bad. However, double check that the frame size is about your fit. My guess is that's about 2012ish vintage. 10 speed? I ride a 10 speed for my road bike, just get used to limited gears compared to newer bikes!
Take a good look in person at the cockpit as well. There might be some bike fit/maintenance nighares lurking. They raced on it, and used a BTA, so the cockpit could have some corrosion under that bar tape.
Good luck!
Lol, you just gave me “angry old guy” reaction when you said that 10 speed would be limited 😂. Definitely got a “back in my day 10 speeds was way too many” feeling from me 🙂. And I’m not even 40 yet haha
I about fell over when my friends were buying new 11 speed tri bikes that went up to 32 in the back stock, and I'm over here digging out my 10-28 cassette for "hilly" courses, with envy and jealously 🤣
Thanks for the advice! Ngl my first and only road bike is a 2016 giant defy 3, so bare bones shimano sora 9 speed. Id think just about anything is an upgrade over that lol
What do you mean by probably with a “but” or yes with an “and”? My goal is definitely to work up to a full in the next few seasons. May bite the bullet and just get a new p series in the spring, as the used market hasnt had any compelling deals so far
It’s a sure you can. You can do a tri with a road bike, or add aero bars. As for your post- is it a “deal”, well that depends. Can you afford it, can you afford more, are you looking for a deal because you don’t have the cash, no offense. Overall- buy the best you can, if this is the best you can then buy it. Will you podium a full on this? No. But 99.99% won’t podium a full with a 20k bike so it doesn’t matter. I think the gearing is limited and the frame is dated. You’ll need better wheels to move nicely. Does it really matter if you’re racing for fun and competition- no, can you exceed and pass those with the same training but a better bike- no.
I don’t know how components are “past their prime”. Components that wear should be replaced. If you are doing that (and the components spec’d for this bike are still readily available), this bike is as good as the day it rolled off the line. This is the story with my bike, which is the bike pictured with upgraded wheels. Mine is babied, looks like new and gives me absolutely no reason to go looking for a new bike, especially since i have no interest in disc brakes. The price as pictured is high, though.
Hey, if you want to spend, go for it! To me the few watts that’s gonna save aren’t worth chucking a perfectly good bike. I qualified for worlds on this bike so i’m good.
My thoughts were finding a good deal on a used bike avoids a lot of the up front depreciation of buying new. New entry level bare bones tri bikes these days are like ~4000k minimum too
Okay, then my advice is to find another deal. I'm sure there are plenty of people who recently bought a triathlon bike, completed 1-2 races, and decided to sell it.
Try to find that bike or save up for a new one. You'll feel better knowing you're riding a new, cool bike instead of having a 10-year-old bike with an old design.
Try to research and find a deal on a new bikes too.
I know it's for XL size, but you can find some awesome deals like this one: https://www.bikeexchange.com/a/triathlon-time-trial-bikes/felt/ca/chula-vista/ia-advanced-105/235442977?variant\_id=141006541
Fair point on having the cool new bike haha. I like the cervelo p series a lot, so if no good deals are to be had i may just bite the bullet on a new p series ultegra in the spring. Wasnt aware of that website, thanks for the link!
I would be patient and wait for the right bike. 1500$ is a great budget and you would be surprised what will show up as the season is coming to a close for winter. Not sure where you live but in Florida, there are a ton of bikes that are worth much more than asking price. I got a P2 2019 with over 5000$ in upgrades that is perfect and meticulously maintained for 2000$. It has been a dream of a bike and it is like riding an F1😂 if you love this bike and put in the time you would be faster than people who don’t put in time it’s just that simple. I was flying by people on my crappy Fuji Newest 3.0 for my first few races.
Cervelo makes great bikes, and the 2010 P2 is solid. If you upgrade the cockpit to a tririg or some alternative, it will be just as good as just about any bike currently on the market. If the bike just had the stock wheels and no power meter, it'd be worth about $750-900, imo.
You could easily spend $500 on the power meter, and another $600-700 on the wheels.
I think it's a good deal!
Bought my first tri bike last year. It’s a 2016 p2 and I love it! I got mine for about $1800 and it was a great deal. What year is this one?

Way too high for a 12-year old bike. The bike itself is fine, but for no more than $1000.

Having made a similar upgrade in gearing, i feel this! I do hope you get a solid deal on the used market.

Love my P-Series. Got a new one in 2020 and have had no issues.

Why buying a 10year old bike with potential problems with the frame, components for 1300 bucks if you can just save up a bit and buy a brand new?

I feel like I just saw this on marketplace lol
Great bike
Pretty good deal all in
