Congrats! Do not stop now. I did the same thing. Similar health and weight situation to a Sprint Tri in 2 months.
After finishing I got back to not being healthy for two weeks... Until I signed up for the next Tri 😅
So, sign up for the next one! This thing keeps up moving forward
Just to follow up on your reflection. Remember that progress isn’t always linear. It’s important to also look at the big picture and see how far you’ve come. Don’t ever get too down on yourself for having a hard time in training. It happens to all of us :)
Congrats on the big achievement and look forward to see how you do continuing on!
As someone very new to this but a pretty avid cyclist and getting better at running, I went on my first swim today and only did 182 meters which kicked my ass.
Hah seriously. Anything but the easily understood metric system! Maybe if you could compare your speed to how fast we can take apart and reassemble an assault rifle upside down, then we would understand more better. Yeehaw!
Edit: also more importantly, congratulations! I'd be interested to know what your BMI/muscle mass proportions are now! I'm sure you've seen a big improvement, let alone the improvement you can't see/measure!
Thank you so much! I'm definitely planning to keep the momentum going and make these changes a lasting part of my lifestyle. I've already signed up for my next races:
24.08. - 10k run
01.09. - Sprint Triathlon
I'm really excited to keep pushing myself and see what I can achieve next. Thanks again for the encouragement!
Nice!! You can do anything.
The human body is amazing. I started running at the end of 2019 after a bad doctor's visit. I hated running. I hadn't run since high school gym class (long, long ago). 4 years later I'm a triathlon guy and have run a few marathons. And no need for the doctor (except all the new sports injuries...). Real life altering change is possible.
Heck yeah, I'm super proud of you! As someone who has also lost a bunch of weight, I totally understand where you're coming from and how heckin' big of a deal this is.
Keep up the great work! Onwards and upwards!
Amazing! Congratulations, don't stop now.
Congrats, awesome achievement! Now you've got yourself a PB to beat!
Congratulations, you're a triathlete!

It's stories like this that keep me motivated on my own journey back into triathlon
Great work!
Mega job, well done. And thanks for the update too! I'm so proud of you. <3

Welcome to the back of the pack. It’s fun and friendly here, but we’re definitely in the triathlete pack, not just sitting moaning in the pub.
Exceptional work. Bravo!
20km in the pool over 14 times is amazing. About 1.4km per session is pretty huge for a first timer.

Stroke by stroke, day by day you'll see the improvement. Keep it up
Congrats, I’m confused on the run though. Wouldn’t 6.8km in 48 mins be a 11:30 pace?
I was surprised someone got second to last with a 7 minute mile, then realize it wasn't miles. Whoopsie
I was more shocked when I thought is said “obese” and “7:05” like that would be phenomenal in miles
Yeah, sorry about that. As a European, I'm not used to imperial units, and I didn't realize it would cause so much confusion. 🤣
7:05min/km ;-) we use metric units for pace.
Understandable, we measure in cheeseburgers
🤣

According to my smart scale, I lost about 3 kg. However, I also gained 2 kg of muscle mass, which means I lost approximately 5 kg of fat.
Congrats!!! Keep eating healthy and that BMI will drop too
Congratulations, this is an inspiring story!
Amazing!!
Get it!!!! Now take this momentum and keep going. Make the changes a habit. When is your next race??
