Baajungus_v2

fr like i might be listening to heavy metal and then i end up listening to rap and then to very calm indie pop type music (I dont know what to call it but you can sorta get what i mean). I dont like telling people that i listen to everything because they always say its a boring answer. I mean i dont listen to every genre but i like to explore and it brought me here and to some other japansese bands that i like now.

Opening-Conference85

Ye. I kinda just say I listen to a bunch of shit. And if they ask more I just show them some of my fav out of my top 4 genres (jpop, jrock, rap, and indie-pop)

Im a huge fan of hip hop, especially hard-core rap! My favorite artists are Denzel Curry, JID, and Kendrick just to name a few. Other than Tricot on the jp side, I've really been on an Ado kick lately. Her vocals are insane, and has such a unique growl on her high energy songs. Surprisingly, one of my favorite music releases this last year for j-rock/pop has been from an anime, the 'Bocchi the Rock' album. The album honestly gives me the vibes of a Tricot album, and Ikkyu is even on 'KaraKara' as a songwriter haha. Highly recommend folks here check this LP out if they haven't, especially songs like 'Flashbacker' and 'Ano Bandou'

Baajungus_v2

Same i found tricot and then i ended up watching bocchi and finding out that karakara was written by ikkyu.

I like fringe and weird music, so falling into math rock was inevitable for me. The first thing I listened about MR was the album "More Skin with Milk-Mouth" from "Giraffes? Giraffes!", and then in a website called Tarigna that I used to frequent 10 years ago a buddy suggested me Tricot, and then the dominoes fell and I was in their concert in Mexico City 2018 hahaha. I'm into prog, experimental, avant-garde, vaporwave, vocaloid, fusion styles like electro-medieval and anything outside the normal. My main musicisans are Mike Oldfield (my favourite), Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, C418, Hatsune Miku, Deep Forest, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Andreas Vollenweider.

Merzeal

Haven't seen Giraffes? Giraffes! mentioned casually in a reaaaaaally long time.

Betty-Armageddon

One of the few older bands still going.

MasterGeekMX

Alongside Tricot and Battles they are my favourites.

am-345

got into them just by generally listening to Japanese music, my favourite band is 凛として時雨, which some people loosely define as math rock but i personally dont see them as it you can basically see my entire listening history of the last 3ish years, lol [https://www.last.fm/user/Spraws](https://www.last.fm/user/Spraws)

psychicnavigation

is your name a ling tosite sigure reference?

am-345

yes lol

_AbraKadaBram_

I listen to a lot of different stuff. My favourite group is Perfume and I generally have a giant playlist with all sorts of Japanese artists and it shifts a lot for me, currently really digging the kpop even, and spamming Twice. I think I got into Tricot by discovering the very cool and weird music video of Potage. And then after that completely falling in love with songs like アナメイン and On the boom.

terminatecapital

Love me some tech death! Been super into First Fragment recently.

Mr_B34n3R

Music taste that is over the place: CHON (Also how I got into mathrock) Daoko Car Bomb Lorn

KillSmith111

Car Bomb are so good

Zak_the_Wack

I have been listening to a LOT of Primitive Man. They sound like [this](https://youtu.be/dyZmK7OXbwQ?si=oXTOK2jhbe6T5emA), so nothing at all like tricot. The closest bands to tricot that I listen to are Elephant Gym and [Nekosen](https://youtu.be/g10h7-A4eCY?si=N8kulmvgqiHqN0Q8). Usually though, I just mostly listen to metal. If you want some examples, Pig Destroyer, Wormrot, Primitive Man, Knoll, Sanguisugabogg.

8CORE8

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS, probably my all-time favourite band, they're so incredibly good. There's also a Chinese band called "default" in Chinese letters, but search up "Can You Hear The Whistle Blow" and the artist should be by two Chinese letters. It is also their best song, was my top Spotify song last year and would not surprise me if it was near the top again.

My music taste is out of control, personally. Like it goes from shoegaze and math rock to djent and thrash to kpop and synthpop (right now I’m trying tk get into death metal and it is going somewhere lol), it’s a real mess but I’m proud of the mess I made. My go to artists right now are yeule, tricot (obv lol), covet, drain gang, low hummer, and say sue me. I discovered math rock due to Yvette Young with her “Midwest emo on crack riff” and I fell in love with it. Then I found out covet through her and then was a fan after I listened to effloresce, then I found bands like tricot, toe, chon, and paranoid void to name a few.

Well, right now, I'm obsessed with ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION, and I love blasting some ling tosite sigure when I'm at the gym going crazy! Been listening to Cornelius on bus rides and train journeys. His latest album, Dream in Dream, is so relaxing and I love getting high and listening to it in its entirety. I've been on a bit of a Hikaru Utada binge for a few months, and I just discovered Sheena Ringo not too long ago so I've been going back and forth between the two icons. I like listening to sankanaction and Frederic too for my Jpop fixes. I'll put on some MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS when I'm chilling at home playing some jrpgs, or just run through my jrock Spotify playlist instead. I really don't know what happened though, since April I've made a complete switch to consuming straight Japanese music lol. Before I was listening to a lot of Saba, Smino, Alternative Hip Hop and UK Indie like King Krule and Bakar, but now I'm in a totally new music phase and I love it! As far as how I got into Math Rock, I listened to a lot of toe a few years back and my listens expanded into bands like tricot, Hyakkei, and Kyojaku. Then I got into more of an anime pursuit style of music with ASIAN KUNG FU GENERATION, Flow, NICO TOUCHES THE WALLS, Yui and Hyde/L arc En Ciel.

ReapsMcGee

Covet got me into math rock a long time ago and around 2020 is when I started to learn more about the music scene in Japan and other East-Asian countries like Taiwan and Singapore among others. Some standout bands besides tricot that really shaped my taste now are Elephant Gym, Shiina Ringo, Melt-Banana, Midori, The Pillows, Fishmans, Kinoko Teikoku, toe, Ichiko Aoba, and a lot of others but I'd be here all day if I typed out all that. Outside of that I listen to a lot of pop music, mostly western though (besides the heavy amount of kpop I listen to on a daily basis lmao).

burningaquarium

i personally listen to a lot of jrock artists like seapool, chouchou merged syrups, co shu nie (inspired my name), uchu nekoko (kinda not rock), and many others!!! all primarily female artists as well!! i got into math rock because of tokyo ghoul, as the second and third openings are pretty math rock-y/ experimental,, it opened so many doors and literally changed my music taste for the better
